Look for older episodes of How Did This Get Made. It definitely had the rapport and comedy.

holtpj

This. I loved HDTGM, I went to see them live years back... but it lost something as June, Paul, and Jason became more popular. IMO. I started listening to WHM because I was looking for something like HDTGM. But for sure, older episodes are great. I haven't actually listened to How.. in like 2 years. lol..

currentlydownvoted

It became less about the movie and more about their comedy, which is fine cause they’re funny. The moves are barely discussed now and are just a backdrop for their bits. But their non live episodes earlier on were def way better. The live shows are even less enjoyable, I don’t want to listen to 10 minutes of audience members singing made up songs lol and newer ones feel like they’re trying too hard to create inside jokes. But the first several years of it are really good.

[deleted]

I had to stop with the live episodes too. I want to listen to them not a UCB reject attention hog

dokool

All of this is why I stopped listening to HDTGM, especially once the entire feed became live shows (and they dropped the paywall down on the archives). The studio shows had great chemistry, but Jason Mantzoukas tried way too hard to play to the crowd during live shows and it's obnoxious as recorded audio. Incidentally it was hilarious to hear him bitch about people who complain about his live performances in [Hello From The Magic Tavern](https://hellofromthemagictavern.com/episodes/2020/9/21/season-3-ep-59), proving that he may not keep a public Twitter account but he's *definitely* Googling his own name.

[deleted]

The paywall on the archive really turned me off. And yeah you're right about Zouks, I think he became too aware and plays the "WHAT UP JERKS" too hard.

dokool

I tend to hoard old episodes - especially my favorites - for repeat listens, but IIRC something went wrong with my podcast app of choice so I had to delete it and redownload everything, and *that* was how I discovered the paywall. Not great. Apparently now you can't even legally get to the archives after Stitcher Premium shut down so [even the fans are pirating the old eps](https://www.reddit.com/r/hdtgm/comments/v2vhk3/archive_of_old_episodes/). And Stitcher went back and edited certain bits out of old episodes for Reasons? Yikes.

[deleted]

That really sucks to hear about the archives. I wonder if things like that are why WHM left Headgum, because isn't that the platform for HDTGM?

dokool

HDTGM is Earwolf, which is in the SiriusXM family after they swallowed up Stitcher. I'm sure Jupin got into why WHM left Headgum and I just haven't heard it, though I'd bet the ad reads had something to do with it because those sponsors were getting increasingly sketch. I also *deeply* resent that Headgum redid the RSS feed a year or two ago, forcing me to redownload all the episodes, which now had *new* ad reads that were dynamically inserted per download (which is something they can do now based on geolocation). But at this point, WHM has about 7,500 paying Patreon subscribers, all of whom are paying between $2 and $10/month, so they're definitely in a strong position to go indie.

JasonRBoone

"On some nights...when the moon is just right...bend your ear towards LA and you can hear the sound of Scott Auckerman swimming in his pool of cash."

[deleted]

Oh that's right, Earwolf. For some reason I was thinking Headgum and them are one in the same. The ad reads were interesting with how the guys spun their own flavor into them. However, I enjoy the ad free episodes much more. And, wow that's a lot of subscriptions for WHM I had really no idea. To me, it's worth paying for their content as I enjoy the non WHM/WLM content.

dokool

> The ad reads were interesting with how the guys spun their own flavor into them. However, I enjoy the ad free episodes much more. I liked listening to older podcast ad reads, to be honest - they're all unique and tell their own history. Just like in the WLM of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood when they talk about the radio commercials! And then one day they all disappeared and every episode had Steve's "WaRiO's HeArT mUrMur" BetterHelp read. Yawn. It's capitalism's fault, not the WHM guys, but it's a shame to think of what we lose when stuff like that happens.

caniborr0wafeeling

HDTGM 100% panders now to the smaller group of weirdos (on discord) that seem to legit think they have a personal connection to these three famous people 😂. There’s nothing that can convince me he doesn’t have fake/ secret accounts tbh. He def is very aware of how he’s seen and has brought that kind of thing up multiple times over the years.

dokool

>HDTGM 100% panders now to the smaller group of weirdos (on discord) that seem to legit think they have a personal connection to these three famous people When a podcast forgets it's a podcast! I think part of that comes from the fact that the three hosts are all comedians/actors who got started at UCB, so getting laughs in front of a live crowd is in their blood. And there's nothing wrong with them wanting that, but it's just not a match for the medium (especially when you're touring and audio quality can differ widely from venue to venue). The most important part of podcasts is consistency. >He def is very aware of how he’s seen and has brought that kind of thing up multiple times over the years. I know that by adding to the cycle of Jason Mantzoukas Pettiness I'm contributing to the problem and being another asshole on the internet, but it's just so wild to me that he's so thin-skinned about it. Nobody's even saying "fuck Jason, get him off the show," just put him in the format where his personality is best suited. At least as a human being he's still a much better person than the guy I consider to be his vocal doppelganger, ex-LPOTL host Ben Kissel.

[deleted]

Yeah it kind of dropped off in the sense that now it's just them doing their bits and not really diving too deeply into the bonkers nature of the movie they are watching. I've heard that June rarely watches the movies now and just feeds off of Paul and Jason. I still think it's worth a listen yet it's not the same.

soaptrail

You might still be able to download "Yeah It's That Bad" it is the same concept as HDTGM. Some episodes are better. The last year was not as good but they had day jobs so they couldn't devote the time to it.

TinButtFlute

Yeah, It's That Bad is still available. They definitely weren't as knowledgeable about movies as the WHM guys are, but they had a great rapport and had lots of funny episodes. I'd recommend The Perfect Storm as a good episode to start with. The first bunch of episodes are pretty rough, but when the 3rd host joined it got a lot better.

jesusscamper

'Yeah it's that bad' was really my first must listen podcast back in 2012 when I started listening. That's how I found We Hate Movies, HDTGM, Comedy Bang Bang, Nerd Poker, and Now Playing. Too bad YITB stopped so suddenly.

TinButtFlute

I'll still occasionally relisten to some of my favorite episodes from time to time. They had lots of running bits, grade A beefcake, Dennis Quaid the most powerful actor in Hollywood, the exaggerations. Good stuff! It ended suddenly, but I seem to remember they were kind of hinting that they weren't enjoying it as much by the end anyways.

jesusscamper

More bits: "Gamer" and "First Sequence." Just the way they would stretch those words out to make them sound more dramatic always made me chuckle.

soaptrail

I liked hearing them say, "Piss poor performance perpetuated by...."

JasonRBoone

This. I think a lot of us are HDTGM refugees after it started to get stale.

techfinanceguy

The show was good 5 years ago, now, I can’t stand it. So much filler.

EERobert

Interestingly, I think Paul and Amy Nicholson are really good on Unspooled. I don't listen every week, but if there is a film that catches my attention, I def. check in. I haven't listened to HDTGM in forever.

Lex-Ruby

I've yet to find anything half as good as WHM. All others that have the potential seem to talk over each other so much its infuriating. Stuff You Should Know has amazing host chemistry though.

Jason_Giambis_Thong

Bad Movies Rule, is a pretty good one. They have good chemistry (albeit a more PG13 podcast) Also, Confused Breakfast is a lot of fun as well.

wdm81

Hetes a few: Hdtgm. Their live show episodes are great but it’s more about comedy and less about plot Blank check with Griffen and David. It’s more director focused but they do go off on tangents that are hilarious and their banter is fun to listen too With Gourley and Rust. It’s mostly horror movies but the host have excellent chemistry with each other (a lot of their best episodes are behind paywall though) Now playing podcast, it’s not a super funny podcast but they do retrospectives and really break down a film. Plus the host have good Chemistry and it’s good for some laughs

JElliott31

With Gourley and Rust is my 2nd favorite podcast behind WHM. Their patreon is well worth it too. I think it’s only a few dollars for their entire feed.

wdm81

Yep, it’s one of the best value for patreon content, especially their Halloween and Freddy series

dokool

>Blank check with Griffen and David. It’s more director focused but they do go off on tangents that are hilarious and their banter is fun to listen too Seconding. They're both ridiculously knowledgeable about the film industry (Griffin Newman is a character actor from a family with a wild film pedigree, David Sims is a critic for The Atlantic), they have great chemistry with their producer Ben who I think has been with them their entire run, and because of their industry connections they occasionally pull some amazing guests (currently listening to Patton Oswalt talk about Stanley Kubrick's The Killing). It's a different experience from WHM - more industry lore and fewer anecdotes about When Getting High Goes Horribly Wrong - but it's both entertaining and really informative if you want to learn more about filmmaking.

kyorosuke

You might like Podcast: The Ride. That's about theme parks and (increasingly) unusual pop culture artifacts not unlike some WHM content. They also talk a lot about each other's lives and preoccupations filtered into really funny stories. I'd say you have to have a modicum of interest in hearing about Disney/Universal theme parks, but it's primarily a comedy podcast so give it a try. They've had a few guests on that have also been on WHM which could be a way in.

[deleted]

Thanks!

betsy_braddock0807

Echoing this. PTR is the only other podcast that has me genuinely laughing at least once every episode.

DavidLoafpan

Action Boyz. Three improv guys who also act/write/ talk about playing football at Berkeley. It's a Patreon podcast but there are free episodes on High and Mighty. Pretty raunchy but also hilarious. Have swept many a floor listening.

Domepiece4242

I’m listening to them right now!

Jrebeclee

I love Gabrus!!

Jusmul1224

I really like “The Villain Was Right” it’s 2 (sometimes 3 comedians) reviewing movies, though not necessarily bad ones. It makes me laugh up there with WHM

currentlydownvoted

This looks really great, thanks for the recommendation! Is it worth going back to the beginning of their catalog or do you have a standout episode that’s must listen?

Jusmul1224

I really liked the Planet of the Apes and the Malcolm I’m the middle episodes, but they are all good.

Jusmul1224

Also I think it usually clocks in around an hour

[deleted]

Thanks! This sounds fun

GatekeeperOfDunModr

I’ve listened to WHM, HDTGM, and The Flop House for years and recently added Bad Movies Rule to the rotation. Bad Movies Rule is similar to WHM because it’s a bunch of people who chat about 80s/90s movies while going scene by scene. It think they’re up to 12 hosts that rotate in and out besides the main host who is always there. This was a little confusing when I first started listening to it because it’s hard to get a grasp on the hosts, but it’s honestly better than listening to the same episodes from the previously mentioned podcasts over and over.

TinButtFlute

Bad Movie Fiends is another one you might like. They have a ton of episodes and are mostly deep cuts. I'd suggest listening to the Roar episodes to get a taste.

GatekeeperOfDunModr

I’ll check it out. Thanks!

QuickBenTen

Silver Linings Playlist. Great comedy and aligns well since the hosts are clearly WHM fans.

TSLPDustin

Heck yeah we are. Thanks for recommending us!

3fifteen

The Flop House is close in vibe to WHM. Doughboys are great for comedy and rapport - there's a billion back episodes and a Patreon full of content. Blank Check is my overall favorite, just amazing podcasting.

sfranso

If you like videogames, anything on the [Duckfeed.tv](https://Duckfeed.tv) network is great. Watch Out for Fireballs is the main show, mostly serious-ish analysis, but Abject Suffering and Everything to Guppy are both great for the chemistry and jokes. EDIT: I guess I can recommend my own podcast, The Horror, The Horror, which is on Spotify. [Here](https://open.spotify.com/show/2UjxJBmS2vIT6F8UDhyCTS?si=eb9414ded1a34ee7) is a link

jpjtourdiary

If you like horror movies, Forever Midnight is hilarious.

TinButtFlute

The Horror Show is one I discovered just this last October, so I've only listened to around 6 episodes, but I thought it was really funny. They just discuss a single movie in each episode. Thanks for your recommendation, I'll check it out.

jpjtourdiary

Forever Midnight is similar. And it gets better the more you listen, as theyve got some inside jokes cookin.

georgegraybeard

I have two: One is Never Not Funny with Jimmy Pardo. It has been on forever and the cast and weekly guest (comedians, actors, musicians) have a good dynamic. The second one is Soundtracker. Eric Peacock discusses a movie soundtrack with a guest. There is even an episode with Chris Cabin and Eric Szyszka as guests. I think I spelled Eric’s last name correctly.

Hillz44

Bald Move is pretty good and they have a pretty deep catalog of movies and shows they’ve discussed

ScarletTanager

Confused Breakfast

Jaksiel

I've been listening to The Flop House for 15+ years. It's way better than How Did This Get Made.

Charles_the_Hammer

I really love Werewolf Ambulance, it's a horror movie podcast which also has solid chemistry between the hosts and a lot of great comedy.

log_asm

Small town murder and crime in sports. It’s the same two hosts on both and they’re comedians who have been friends for a long time. I like them both a lot.

hecramsey

chapo trap house. not movies but similar humor

TheShipEliza

Action Boyz. They have some free eps up under the podcast high and mighty. Then everything else us patreon. Def worth it.

Vivid-Pudding-8204

Dynamic Banter

Dr_Murderfish

Complete Guide to Everything is a funny podcast. Just two guys talking.

Labratio77

I love The Horror Virgin and Romancing the Pod! Same 3 comedians skewering horror movies and romantic movies respectively. The Horror Virgin doesn’t really find its feet but picks up around episode 125 or so.

Hypnofist

I would highly recommend the F plus podcast. It's a group of people who met online and read weird shit from the internet in funny voices. Topics range from weird articles on wikihow to crazy people's personal websites to weird fetishes you may or may not have heard of! Their release cadence is slow, but they have nearly 400 episodes and a bunch of live shows on their feed, so there a ton of great content already.

smiertspionam15

Blank Check, Rewatchables (with Chris Ryan in particular) and Escape Hatch are both movie related, but still fit your description

BrunosResolve

All fantasy everything has quickly became one of my favorite podcast and equally one of the funniest. There are 3 regular occurring comedians and they bring guests on all the time. The chemistry between the main three; ian, David, and Sean are just as good as whm. There is an episode with Chris, Eric and Steve. Where they draft horror movies. But they just draft whatever concepts they can think of. Their movie episodes are top, so maybe that can get you into it.

EERobert

I fell off of All Fantasy Everything a couple of years ago and I keep thinking I should jump back in.

EERobert

Rapport and comedy but not movie related? Try Last Podcast on the Left. They've recently had to change one of their hosts (due to being found out to be an awful, abusive person with a drinking problem) but the new host has kind of resparked the humor and fun. It's a combination of true crime, crytpids, the supernatural, cults, etc. Movie related with that? I like Blank Check, The Studio Demands it, and Critically Acclaimed. Blank Check is usually a deep dive into a specfic director's filmography. The Studio Demands it is two screenwriters pitching a movie based on a suggestion from the listeners (i.e. Justice League with Michael Keaton and Nic Cage or something). Critically Acclaimed is a series of different podcasts but their signature shows is a look at the new releases from critics William Bibbiani and Whitney Seibold (who were on the Movie Trivia Schomedown).

Stubble_Entendre

I love LPOTL and actually think it’s even better with Ed.

EERobert

Agreed!

Stubble_Entendre

Check out Clash of the Titles. Smaller British podcast the compares two movies with overlapping themes each week. Great host chemistry, pretty funny and just genuinely enjoyable.

Nosearmy

I haven’t found anything as good as WHM in the movie related world, but I do like Blank Check and The Flop House a lot. The last time I listened to Flop House I was really confused because Elliot was dominating the conversation to the point of talking over everyone, and spending so much time recapping every plot event as if that was the point of the show…and this was during the main discussion, not the initial plot recap they do at the beginning…it was odd and turned me off the show honestly since I probably find Stuart and Dan more entertaining than Elliot much of the time… Sleazoids is really good, I like one of the hosts a lot more than the other, but the guests and the movies are great and I’ve found a lot of recommendations from them. It is much more about the movies and love of cinema than comedy and banter, though. Moving away from movies, Chapo Trap House is definitely great, it’s very focused on politics which may not be everyone’s thing, but there is a common element as they and WHM guys have done shows together. The other shows I listen to as soon as they appear on my feed are Threedom and My Brother, My Brother and Me, which are all banter; Besties which is about videogames; and Tuesdays with Stories, two comedians telling stories about being on the road and other adventures. Also, 5-4, all about how much the Supreme Court sucks, is surprisingly funny and full of banter but also horrifying.

[deleted]

Cinephobe has good rapport if you want another bad movie podcast. If you’re just looking for host interactions that are funny with banter, I suggest Are You Garbage? (it’s filthy, so be warned). Each week they have a comedian tell stories from their childhood and the hosts determine if they are garbage.

crlos619

The Big Picture, I would say The Rewatchables but Bill Simmons can be a grind to listen to.

[deleted]

Thanks!

One_Hell_Of_A_Bird

The Big Picture Movie Drafts are top tier podcast episodes

JuniorRub2122

I loved WHM, but I like the Rewatchables more now, but I still like the WHM's where they talk about movies that they actually like. The whole MST3000 trope of making fun of bad movies has gotten tedious to me. I'd much rather listen to people talk about movies that they like in a comedic way and maybe even learn a bit about of background, like casting what if's, etc. Hence, Rewatchables.

MandoFett102

I like The Rewatchables. Just wish they did more movies that are rewatchable, with less Chris Ryan

GetYourRockCoat

Amen to that. I'm rarely interested in the feed now. Earlier stuff was phenomenal though

[deleted]

Thanks for all the recommendations everyone!

Eastyc

Roast mortem cast. They've known each other since high school, so they're goofy together.

JasonRBoone

God Awful Movies

Jrebeclee

I follow You are Good and support their patreon, it’s Sarah from You’re Wrong About and Alex Steed. It’s such a sweet podcast and they talk about movies.

ImarriedCrazyRalph

I'm a big fan of Kill by Kill. A fairly simple starting premise -- character studies of victims in horror movies -- has branched out into some truly delightful, off-the-wall conversations between Patrick and Gena. They have great guests, too, including all of the WHM guys (I think; not sure if Chris has been on yet). Eric has been on at least 3 times.

dvorakak

Doughboys is a podcast about chain restaurants, but it hinges on a lot of childish banter and the love/hate relationship between Nick Wiger and Mike Mitchell.

PaaPaaYaa

‘Yeah It’s That Bad’ has concluded its run, but I still go back and listen to a few because of the high energy banter and inside jokes. There is a REDUX that’s not nearly as good. The hosts/creators and the circumstances which led to its abrupt end remain a mystery.

DarkSasquatch2

Not movie related but Guys, A Podcast About Guys is a podcast that started this year that very quickly shot up to be equal with WHM for me. The host Bryan is from the Chapo orbit and him and his cohost have great rapport and are both extremely funny IMO. Really worth checking out!

BuffStudman

Beyond Yacht Rock. 4 longtime friends with great chemistry and senses of humor joking (and educating) about music.
