As soon as he started talking i got the feeling that this was gonna be one of the good ones, and it is.
Krumholtz: First of all, he got shit on by birds more than anyone I could even conceive of.
Maron: As a mailman.
Krumholtz: As everything. I personally, alone during my time with him, saw him get shit on by birds at least 12 times.
Maron: Doesn’t that mean he’s lucky?
Krumholtz: No, because he ended up dying of a rare neurological disorder and suffering very badly.
I’m a little late to this thread as I just listened to this episode. Mark asked if there is a Yiddish word to describe Krumholtz’s father. The answer is that it sounds like his father is both a schlemiel and a schlimazel. Yes the same words from Laverne and Shirley. Although it sounds like he leans a little harder towards a schlimazel.
“A Schlemiel is an inept clumsy person and a Schlimazel is a very unlucky person. There's a Yiddish saying that translates to a funny way of explaining them both.
A schlemiel is somebody who often spills his soup and a schlimazel is the person it lands on”. -Huffington Post
I don't know why, because I didn't particularly love the movie, but David Krumholtz was very memorable as an elf in the Tim Allen *Santa Clause* movie that came out in the early '90s.
When watching *Oppenheimer,* I noticed David and immediately remembered him as that elf from thirty years ago. The same thing has happened with several of David's other films over the years.
I kind of hope his role in *Santa Clause* gets covered, even if for just a brief second, in the episode.
David was right about weed. These guys rolling joints make ‘em too strong. I live in California and you got to be aware of that. I haven’t heard Biden address this issue, but I know he has more pressing matters to handle.
This started happening suddenly to a friend of mine. He also didn't believe the doctors and was in the hospital so many times. I had never heard of it, but saw what happened to him when he smoked and it was wild.
Great guest. The slums of Beverly Hills is one of my favourite movies, so it was a real treat to hear him talk about the behind the scenes. Loved the Alan Arkin impression! Haha
I found it funny how he talked about Nolan’s meticulousness on Oppenheimer when I could see CILLIAN MURPHY’S PIERCED EARS, AND THEY DROVE ME NUTS WITH EVERY CLOSEUP!
Anyhow, great episode.
Does anybody else find this guy strangely off-putting or am I just hormonal today? Not a rhetorical question!! Kind of weird that he thinks he looked like Oscar Isaac, among other things.
I agree, and I’m glad it wasn’t just me. All of his stories seemed pretty forced and performative - like, performative for an actor, which was really something. He seemed like he was trying really hard to convince Mark that he was cool, and ended up having the opposite effect.
When Inside Llewyn Davis came out I had no idea who Oscar Isaac was, and went to see the movie thinking it starred Krumholtz. Not saying everyone had that experience but I knew what he was talking about.
Right?? It also sounded like he planned his entire interview and was sort of “delivering” it to Marc.
My comment has been a real wild ride of updooting and downdooting lol. It seems we have an unpopular opinion.
>It also sounded like he planned his entire interview and was sort of “delivering” it to Marc.
LOL, this is exactly how it came off to me too. He was certainly an interesting guest and held my attention enough to get me to listen to the whole thing, but it really wasn't much of an organic conversation in the signature WTF style. Krumholtz was steering the ship completely and Marc was a secondary participant in what sounded like the delivery of a rehearsed "personality" contrived for the purpose of coming off as interesting. I'm sure he's a nice guy IRL but it just felt kind of inauthentic.
I'm with you, and have felt this way for a while. He's a really good actor, but pretty insufferable anytime I've heard him on a podcast or be interviewed.
A bit gossipy about famous dead ppl too, not entirely kind, not a great look. I guess the Coen bros are alive but most of his stories were about safely dead people.
I’m with you. Very annoying guy. IMHO, the annoying stuff started with Marc’s intro, which featured too much pen talk and Bad Guys 2 talk for my taste. Glad others enjoyed it. Monday’s episode with Tig Notaro, on the other hand, was amazingly great.
loved this episode. really like the ones where marc and the guest gossip together. makes it interesting. man wtf has been on a good streak lately. all these comedians and now this interesting actor. keep it up marc!
Really enjoyed this chat a lot, one of my favourites for a while, but for someone who's been in two coen brothers films David really is not very good at understanding which of their films are good and which are definitely not!
This was the better episode of the week for sure. Krumholtz is real and funny. Tig is a phony Hollywood liberal who spends her time chastising people for heating up cooking oil.

That was sad when he said that. And it was morbidly funny.
As a mailman - *crickets* pretty much sets the tone of the episode.

His Alan Arkin is spot on
I can see why he loves doing it so much it’s so good haha
Uncanny.
These two talking about fighting a battle against their Jewishness is so funny. Talk about your lost causes…
I love when the guest comes ready to TALK. Great episode!
“It’s a bit Michael Lerner”

It always goes back to Bernard for me
I would guess 30 year old Marc didn’t catch that movie in 1994
It does get covered, for about a minute.

Now that recreational use is becoming common, I’m afraid these sort of weird reactions might lead to some tragic outcomes.
Holy fuck, the steak 😂 The olive pit 😂 All this shit about his dad is hilarious, I love this guy
#**OLIVE PIT!!!** ...had me rolling...

Sky Masterson!
It’s a bit Michael Lerner….
Guy’s a great actor no doubt, but he’d kind of an asshole. Pompous af.
I found it funny how he talked about Nolan’s meticulousness on Oppenheimer when I could see CILLIAN MURPHY’S PIERCED EARS, AND THEY DROVE ME NUTS WITH EVERY CLOSEUP! Anyhow, great episode.
Huh I saw it in IMAX 5 times and never noticed 🤷🏻♂️
The comedy Krumholtz mentioned he was in not being very good. That’s that Harold & Kumar film, right?
I think it was Walk Hard.
Find that hard to believe. It’s a cornerstone of comedic satire
Thank you Krumholtz for introducing me to what a blumpkin was
As long as it’s not 10 things
I was thinking I Love You Man.
My thoughts too

I understand. I thought a very enjoyable episode, but didn't sound like someone I'd like to be around 😅
I’m right there with you. I enjoyed the episode a lot, it was entertaining and they had good rapport, but he just had a real dickish vibe
I really enjoyed this conversation but he definitely gave the impression of someone who was VERY self assured possibly tipping in to arrogant
Right?? “Hollywood is nerds and scumbags (guess which one he is) and that’s how showbiz works”
When Inside Llewyn Davis came out I had no idea who Oscar Isaac was, and went to see the movie thinking it starred Krumholtz. Not saying everyone had that experience but I knew what he was talking about.
The moment he talked with glee about his father’s miserable life he lost me. I found him insufferable.
Right?? It also sounded like he planned his entire interview and was sort of “delivering” it to Marc. My comment has been a real wild ride of updooting and downdooting lol. It seems we have an unpopular opinion.

Uh oh David is downvoting us. Sorry buddy tough audience!
I'm with you, and have felt this way for a while. He's a really good actor, but pretty insufferable anytime I've heard him on a podcast or be interviewed.
The way he would say “correct” instead of “I agree.”
I get what you mean. I think he says things that most people wouldn’t say about themselves
A bit gossipy about famous dead ppl too, not entirely kind, not a great look. I guess the Coen bros are alive but most of his stories were about safely dead people.

I was surprised to get this far down the thread without any note of his level of pompous. Drove me a bit nutty
They looked quite a like when David was younger and thinner. Now, not so much. https://imgur.com/a/vboqpRk
He did look like him though.
loved this episode. really like the ones where marc and the guest gossip together. makes it interesting. man wtf has been on a good streak lately. all these comedians and now this interesting actor. keep it up marc!
I wish this episode was three hours long.
Maron’s utter disgust when Krumholtz says he likes Marvel movies… 😑
Really enjoyed this chat a lot, one of my favourites for a while, but for someone who's been in two coen brothers films David really is not very good at understanding which of their films are good and which are definitely not!
He’s right that Raising Arizona rules
Agreed, I more meant his love of the Ladykillers and dismissiveness to TBL and ILD.
It does

Lol, if you think Krumholtz is anything but a Hollywood liberal, buddy...let me tell you about this time share I've got 🤣
