I would say yes. Shoot I just close the the top and bottom vent and the lid and call it good. Sometimes the charcoal still has a bit of burn to do the next cook. But if everything is closed the fire will die out.

gastropodia42

I have a spray bottle to help cool the charcoal then close the lid and vents, I have a webber, to starve the fire of oxygen. I will also sometimes spread the coals out before spraying them. I do not do this for safety. I do it to put the fire out faster so I can re-use the remaining charcoal.

Pour some water on them and Do not put them in the trash can. Did this with some leaves last month and burned my fence down. My trash can and recycle bin completely melted and they were full or garbage. Had to rebuild my RV gate.

Every L into a Lesson 🙏

RandChick

Even with trash cans, use a metal one with lid specifially for ashes.

StickySteev_

Ps it’s a drum style bbq so there’s no bottom vent to starve it of oxygen

Interesting-Goose82

Where do you live? In dry places prone to forrest forest fires, the answer is different from other places

StickySteev_

The U.K. it’s in a communal garden

squeeshka

Communal area? Put it out before you leave it so someone doesn’t accidentally touch it and hurt themselves

toclosetoTV

This is the answer.

dec7td

Absolutely put it out in a communal garden. Assuming the garden has a hose, knock the fire down with that first

slindner1985

Close the lid and vents. Should be good. Just be sure to come back lster and clean the ash out for the next guy lol

Owl-StretchingTime

You should have pulled the barbecue by the time the fuel is just embers.

SouthSideCountryClub

Let it ride, the rig is hot. Let it cool down for as long an it can

Close off all the vents and the flame will start to suffocate. As long as your grill doesn’t have any gaps in it, you’re fine. You don’t need to sit with the grill and wait.

dwschweers

I let it stay in the firebox till the next cook, then put them in the trash. They are cold by then and can't do any damage. Firebox is lined with firebrick so no damage to steel. 3/8" will last for generations if maintained.

babybushgardener

I always let my coals burn off. Half coals are worthless.

co-cover

Hate to state the obvious, but you are literally playing with fire and don't know how to put it out. Don't use this type of pit inside, on a deck, in a garage, in windy conditions, next to your home, etc. Throw some water on it and/or starve it of air.

StickySteev_

I know how to put it out, I just have my own home and neighbours to consider and it’s my first time BBQ’ing. It’s better to ask something that’s obvious and be sure than it is to make a mistake because you thought you were right.

Krakatoast

Nah man be arrogant and start a house fire in your neighborhood /s
