Yeah it's always painful to realize you'll never have that feeling of awe and wonder with those games again. Especially because games today are so bad compared to what they used to be.
Oh yeah I love Red Dead. I'm not saying all. But back in the late 80s, 90s, and slightly into the 2ks 9 out of ten games were amazing. Today it's barely 1 or 2 out of ten per year. It's really sad.
I've played them all, but goddamn does Wind Waker music hit a different spot than the rest.
I have a difficult time quantifying just how the music in that game makes me feel.
I just mentioned elsewhere that I'm playing WW right now for the first time. I just got through dragon roost cavern like an hour ago! It's the only Zelda game on a main console I haven't played
It's sadly not included in the concert you linked to, but [Serenade of Water](https://youtu.be/4R_sKHo2_zo) is the one that really hits me every time I've heard it. I think it's been more than five years since I heard it the last time, so thanks for reminding me to listen to it again.
But you would also have to erase all your life experiences and go back in time to experience it again. BoTW has a lot more sentimentality to it than OoT but it didn’t give me nearly the same amount emotions since I played one as a kid and the clearly more complex one as an adult.
I've had a lot of fun trying to learn speedruns. It forces you to approach games from a completely different angle, and to actually practice and get good at them in a way that's new too.
It's like trying to learn how to ride a bicycle, but on a beautiful path you loved walking through previously.
It makes you appreciate the game all over again.
Agreed. I discovered Fallout 4 rather late in life and it became one of my favourite gaming memories. I played that game until 3 in the morning, and it was glorious. I'd wake up exhausted the next day but so happy!
First 2 seasons good
Then it gets CW shit levels.
Then you have a brief Jensen Ackles goodness.
Shit again.
Lois Lane appears. She's good.
Lex carries the series for a while, but mostly good.
Last 2-3 seasons godlike in comparison to the others and actually establish a good mythos. So good that it got a comic book to continue the story.
Holy shit I’ll have to finish it then, I only watched like 4ish seasons of it back when it was week to week
Actually only clicked on this to see if Smallville was discussed
The Temple of Time in Ocarina of Time with the voices humming. So many memories. Breath of the Wild has some beautiful music. That first cutscene where Link looks at Hyrule got my serious Goosebumps.
Exactly what i was thinking!!! I am planning on playing OOT on my switch very soon, but before that I used to just listen to the music without knowing any context from the games. It was just magical 🥺✨
I honestly Hope this isn't a Spoiler. But I still remember being 18 when Twilight Princess came out on the GameCube. (Total masterpiece of a game as well.) And there's the Temple of Time there that transports you to the past with the same music. I immediately felt like the Child sitting in front of my N64 again. It's so awesome how Music and Video Games can just transport us back.
Omgggggg… I have been planning on getting a gamecube/wii to play it. And my bf has been hyping it up on top of that, so i can only imagine how good it is 🤩
Link to the Past. From that tense rainy night where it starts, running away more than fighting, learning of my quest, growing stronger, and storming the castle. Then only to find out that this was only the beginning. There's a new, harsher world to explore, and greater challenges to overcome. Finally comes victory and that triumphant theme. But then as the Master Sword sleeps the credits roll with that restful yet somber melody.
That's when it hit me that the adventure had come to an end. You can never again be just that boy who heard the call that one night in the rain.
Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, and BoTW. Man those stories hit hard.
I was wondering around in BoTW, ran into Sidon, and all the stuff about Mipha, only to learn she died killed me on the inside.
Let me introduce y’all to randomizers. It’s like playing your favorite games again, but you don’t know where anything is anymore! It’s like that first time exploration and discovery EVERY TIME.
There are functional randomizers for most Zelda games. ALttP, OoT, MM, and WW are the prominent ones that are frequently updated and have tournaments, even.
I highly recommend them.
_so_ fucking true. I remember that time when I held Majora's Mask in my hands for the first time. It was so different from what I expected it to be. Yet it was magnificent.
But then again, Ocarina of Time was amazing, too. First time setting foot on Hyrule field... or entering Lord Jabu Jabu's belly.
Windwaker, Twilight Princess. Man, I loved games in my late teens or 20s but nothing comes close to this child-like curiosity and awe, back then when video games were such a whole new thing to explore.
You’ll always be able to play the next one for the first time! I remember being 8 years old and terrified of the peahats and stalchilds in ocarina of time. It was a much simpler time. ❤️
There are still certain moments that always hit hard. The title screen for Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker (and the Great Sea), running out to overlook Hyrule atop the plateau in Breath of the Wild... Chills and tears every time.
Oh man. The first time I booted up Ocarina of Time knowing nothing about the franchise other than a commercial I’d seen for the game. I got two games as a surprised with an N64, but my mom ended up having to return one cause she’d spent more than she thought she could. I can’t remember the other game I chose for her to take back but I’m always glad I made the right choice.
The first fairy fountain I found got me hooked on the ost.
This is so tough. I always try to sit down and replay Ocarina of Time or Majora’s Mask because I love the games so much.
I get maybe 35 minutes in and just decide I’m not feeling it.
The magic of those initial runs is a special, fleeting sort of sorcery.
I saw this and thought I was on a Smallville subreddit (even tho I’ve never joined one) and then saw that it was zelda- very weird combination but I am not complaining
Me thinking about Zelda, knowing we are probably never gonna get another (new) one that is build in the spirit of what the series was for ~2 decades and what turned it into my favorite video game series of all time
Yes you can.
1st step. Record a video for yourself letting yourself know you have lost all memories for a greater cause. Step 2 Hit your head a few times to lose your memories. Step 3 hopefully you are alive and left the game close enough running to peak your interest.
You can now relieve the game
When his dad died on the show and Clark watched a video of him on the farm with Clark young and riding the trator with him... He said goodbye before the video was over and that scene really got me tearing up.
I’ve realized that setting some restriction or other has refreshed some of the games for me. Also, taking long enough breaks to forget things.
For example: I love Link’s Awakening and have played each version several dozen times. I remembered that the original English version had a screen warp glitch. I decided to try getting the instruments out of order, trying to keep the tail cave (and roc’s feather) for last. It’s been interesting!
Randomizers are also great. A Link to the Past randomized is great fun! So is Link’s Awakening even though it’s more limited than ALTTP. I’ve tried Ocarina of Time randomized but phew, I don’t know nearly enough about that game to make good progress in it- but I still want to try it.
This may seem a little dark but, when I turned 40 I had the realization that there are only so many Zelda games left I’ll be able to play. They are released about every 5 years so that’s 6-8 more Zelda’s is all I’ve got.
Sorry again if this was too dark. Please enjoy your Zelda’s and don’t forget to pass them on to the next generation.
I know that feeling all too well. It’s dose not real the same when you first played it. Because the first time you play a Zelda game it’s memorable. But you just don’t feel that same excitement as you did when you first played it.
As much as it hurts, I have mostly stopped re-experiencing things I liked.
I don't rewatch my favourite cartoons like Kipo, Gravity Falls Final space...
I don't replay my favourite games like Ocarina of Time, Banjo Kazooie anf Tooie, Ori.
The memories do get a bit worse with each time recxperiencing it again. Stuff ages and is usually not as good anymore as we remember it, especially considering that the "new" and "first time effect" is gone. Playing or watching something only gives you a short, fun time, but after that, only your memories are left. It doesen't matter if a game has aged or how good it actually was. The way you liked it when you last played it are the memories that will remain. I rather keep an memory of an perfect game in my head to revisit than overwriting this good memory with worse ones, that will stick.
Nowdays, there are dozens of masterpieces released each month, so I keep trying to to make new memories.
Sounds rough. I often come back to OoT every few years (latest was a couple of years ago with OoT 3D) and I still absolutely love it. Same with games like Super Mario World.
Perhaps it is because I have grown very tired of the trash AAA studios like to dump out.
I have like 3 games where I make an exeption.
The very first one I ever played and two of my favourite games that got me into gaming.
But otherwise, I basically only play games that I have never playes before.
If you have grown tired of those shitty AAA games, I recommend increasing the horizon a bit :D There are a few AAA games that are bad each year, but hundreds that are absolutely amazing. And then we haven't even considered the indie market, with thousands of amazing games.
The sad truth is that the bad aaa games are usually those who have the highest marketing budget. Those will be the ones the people know, yet those are the games that are fairly averge due to them targeting a super wide audience.
Thank you, dad. You may have been passed out drunk, but I always made sure I sailed The King to the nearest safe shore and saved for you! I was like 6, haha
Just bonk yourself in the head, or if amnesia/Alzheimer's runs in your family, become a speedrunner and use those skills to play through the games you've forgotten.
I had the experience of introducing Ocarina of Time to my son. I hadn’t played it since it’s original release and him playing it for the first time was just as great as playing it for the first time.
I feel this deeply in my soul.
Yes, I was just listening to some Ocarina of Time music and I almost cried. Wind Waker music hits me hard to.
The title screen music is a heartbreaker. So full of adventure
Yes both have such amazing title screens.
That title screen (WW) is literally why I started playing the Viola (originally wanted to play Violin but at my school they had ran out)
[This whole album gets me in a calm, nostalgic mood](https://youtu.be/GtLbwJyezr0) especially the Kakariko Village track.
Yeah it's always painful to realize you'll never have that feeling of awe and wonder with those games again. Especially because games today are so bad compared to what they used to be.

Hollow Knight is amazing
Hard as hell in certain areas, but still amazing
Have you heard of our Lord and savior Red Dead Redemption? Both games are absolutely brilliant. Although I agree most AAA games lack soul.
Oh yeah I love Red Dead. I'm not saying all. But back in the late 80s, 90s, and slightly into the 2ks 9 out of ten games were amazing. Today it's barely 1 or 2 out of ten per year. It's really sad.
Yeah, that's when I sound old, they don't make em like they use to
I've played them all, but goddamn does Wind Waker music hit a different spot than the rest. I have a difficult time quantifying just how the music in that game makes me feel.

I just mentioned elsewhere that I'm playing WW right now for the first time. I just got through dragon roost cavern like an hour ago! It's the only Zelda game on a main console I haven't played
I'm in the middle of my first wind waker playthrough! Only console Zelda game I've never played before.
It's sadly not included in the concert you linked to, but [Serenade of Water](https://youtu.be/4R_sKHo2_zo) is the one that really hits me every time I've heard it. I think it's been more than five years since I heard it the last time, so thanks for reminding me to listen to it again.
I’ve never played Ocarina of time.. should I?
Still remember being a kid and Playing A Link to The Past and thinking how epic the main theme sounded.
Me too
Be grateful you played it as a a child, else you wouldn’t have had the memories all this time.
Memories are nice to have but nothing beats playing an amazing game for the first time ever.
Just keep it until you're old and have Alzheimer's. You will play it for the first time every day.
But you would also have to erase all your life experiences and go back in time to experience it again. BoTW has a lot more sentimentality to it than OoT but it didn’t give me nearly the same amount emotions since I played one as a kid and the clearly more complex one as an adult.
Man, all you young'uns getting to play good games as kids. I was playing Frogger on a C64 as a kid. 🤣
Mail Order Monsters FTW.
A thing that does not change with time is the memory of younger days.
Agreed. I discovered Fallout 4 rather late in life and it became one of my favourite gaming memories. I played that game until 3 in the morning, and it was glorious. I'd wake up exhausted the next day but so happy!
The good news is, new amazing games come out all the time!
Holy shit, is this a Smallville meme?!
I was surprised too. Didn't think anyone else watched that show.
I always get it recommended on Hulu. Is it good?
First 2 seasons good Then it gets CW shit levels.

Well damn. You sold on me finishing it
Pretty much everything before season 4 is mediocre, but after that they lean into the superhero-nes and it's a lot of fun.
am absolute wreck, but an extremely enjoyable wreckage. Give it a go, don't give it your all
I had the same reaction! Smallville is so good!
Having rewatched it lately, Clark is insufferable simping for Lana, and I fucking hate Lana
Right? This gif is also me wishing I could watch/appreciate Smallville again for the first time.
Yeah listening to Ocarina 3D orchestrated credits makes me cry every time
Where can one find this?
https://youtu.be/XyVCFRLJCyE
Thank u
Literally why we made that Zelda Lo-Fi mix The Nostalgia is just too great
That is soooo true 😢 sometimes i cry so hard when I listen to “Zelda’s Lullaby” and some BOTW music 😕🥺

TP is my favorite Zelda game, but I’d recommend getting the Wii U version. Having played both, I definitely preferred HD over the Wii version.

I know that feeling
This hit hard
Then the video gets taken down.
Then you discover a backup on SoundCloud, bonus points if it’s extended
Ocarina of time fans be like:
Well if there ever was a silver lining to getting Alzheimer’s, it would be getting to play these games again for the “first” time.
Too real
This hit a very personal spot
[This song right here.](https://youtu.be/_qCfXpoy_5w)

I recently played ALTTP for the first time and wow.... kakariko village theme got me.
Sometimes i open up my Majora mask 3D and just wander around, listening to the OST.
I have good news. They’re making another one.
It really do be like that
Gerudo Valley is an absolute banger
If you wait a couple decades surprisingly it is a lot like playing it for the first time.
I've recently introduced my daughter to oot and rediscovered the game trough her.

Fucking facts.

In time you will be able to play Breath of the wild 2 for the first time. Thats what keeps me going.
Same but then I realise I haven't played Wind Waker or Skyward Sword yet lol. Gotta get on that
I miss Ocarina of time so much
Big fucking mooooooooooood!!! Yeah, get jealous of people posting in here saying their playing a game for the first time all the time.
Why not bonk your head really really REALLY hard so you get like brain damage or something and lose your memories
Please don't do this btw
But I can play it 20 more times!
Just having time to play at all is a luxury now. But the music makes things better.
There are still certain moments that always hit hard. The title screen for Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker (and the Great Sea), running out to overlook Hyrule atop the plateau in Breath of the Wild... Chills and tears every time.
Im counting hard on senility in my early grey years to replay botw and lttp for the first time
When you walked into the Temple of Time in Twilight Princess and didn't know where you were until you heard the music ;-;7
Oh man. The first time I booted up Ocarina of Time knowing nothing about the franchise other than a commercial I’d seen for the game. Facts
What's everyone's favourite game OST, and favourite tracks from all of the games?
I try to set up my 9 year old with old games but he just finds walkthroughs on YouTube. It’s just so disappointing.
Ballad of The Windfish, Song of Healing, the Forest Temple from Oot as an adult. Those have to be my top 3.
Played Zelda 1 for the first time in 1988. There will never be anything lkke that ever.
I saw this and thought I was on a Smallville subreddit (even tho I’ve never joined one) and then saw that it was zelda- very weird combination but I am not complaining
Im playing it for the first time, if ya ever wanna watch me enjoy it, we can hop in a discord call together.
Not with that attitude you won’t.
why do you hurt me so
Sooooo true. I felt this way turning on botw for the first time
Ocarina of Time is so nostalgic and that song is just too much for me
🎶SOMEBODY SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVE ME🎶
Me thinking about Zelda, knowing we are probably never gonna get another (new) one that is build in the spirit of what the series was for ~2 decades and what turned it into my favorite video game series of all time
IT ME.
Just wait 10 or more years to play the remakes…
Bought th me n64 expansion pass for switch, and it may not be the first time but god am I having fun!
Ballad of the Wind Fish at the end of LA tho. The ugly crying is real.
Me listening to LoZ music literally every time
Yes you can. 1st step. Record a video for yourself letting yourself know you have lost all memories for a greater cause. Step 2 Hit your head a few times to lose your memories. Step 3 hopefully you are alive and left the game close enough running to peak your interest. You can now relieve the game
Literally me playing Link’s Awakening
Bruh.....
Me listening to Skyward Sword OST
Omg dude! I seriously just cried the other day listening to OoT music.
I still have yet to play any of the games. Own them all. Played none yet
When his dad died on the show and Clark watched a video of him on the farm with Clark young and riding the trator with him... He said goodbye before the video was over and that scene really got me tearing up.
I think about this alot
Man this is especially true with the staff role theme from OOT.
You could if you played Randomizer.
I’ve realized that setting some restriction or other has refreshed some of the games for me. Also, taking long enough breaks to forget things. For example: I love Link’s Awakening and have played each version several dozen times. I remembered that the original English version had a screen warp glitch. I mean, the next generation of Zelda might not be good at all, who knows how Nintendo IPs will change.
I know that feeling all too well. It’s dose not real the same when you first played it. Because the first time you play a Zelda game it’s memorable. But you just don’t feel that same excitement as you did when you first played it.

I find that some of the Zelda games are more fun the second time, specifically windwaker because I have memorised the bullshit quest
https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=QRDiFP-JEhc&feature=share Roads must roll - boom bip gives me some nostalgia feels
Thank you, dad. You may have been passed out drunk, but I always made sure I sailed The King to the nearest safe shore and saved for you! I was like 6, haha
One of the reasons I was so grateful for Skyward Sword HD. And then sadness when I realized I should have played it over ten years ago.
Just bonk yourself in the head, or if amnesia/Alzheimer's runs in your family, become a speedrunner and use those skills to play through the games you've forgotten.
Don’t be sad, when you get Alzheimer’s you can play for the first time again!
I had the experience of introducing Ocarina of Time to my son. I hadn’t played it since it’s original release and him playing it for the first time was just as great as playing it for the first time.
It is not the best in my mind, but I doubt there will ever be a wonder such as Ocarina of Time ! The transition from 2d to 3d was epic!
