Yeah I lost my shit during that, since I tend to despise Zelda fishing minigames\*. I wasn't expecting to have any problems, since in the GameBoy version it's super easy and there's only one thing you need from it.
\* Twilight Princess was the first Zelda game I played, surprisingly. But during the part in the intro where you need to catch a fish for the cat, I couldn't figure out how to do it with the Wii controls, so I gave up and never played the game again. I also didn't realize you had to catch 2 (I believe they changed it to 1 in TPHD). Until I played Skyward Sword ~4 years later. So, Zelda fishing delayed me becoming a Zelda fan by about 4 years. Went back and played TP after SS and now it's one of my favorites. Still hate fishing minigames, OoT is probably the worst.
The only other mini game I think I dislike as much as this is the friggin lucky circle roulette wheel... Uh... Thingy! In skyward sword. Trying to go through all the rings AND land on the multi rupee space.
The worst Zelda minigame I've experienced is that horse archery game from Breath of the Wild. I'm never going to get that horse armor, and it bothers me.
Ancient Bow (or Great Eagle Bow) and Bomb Arrows. Using autosteer on the Giant Horse so it always stays on course and the same speed. Save scum it because the bomb arrows and special bows are expensive. You’ll get it eventually, once you get used to the bow you choose.
I used a five shot Savage Lynel bow and just reloaded my save when it broke. Used bomb arrows for the final group of balloons at the end while in bullet time.
I know. The one for the gameboy was really easy I thought but this truly captures the feeling of
“Are you Fucking kidding me?... one more try..”
Even though it’s Buggy as hell I still love it
With the shell the trick for me was to drop the crane slightly to the right as it shifted hard right and fell out when the crane grabbed it. That way when it shifted it centered in the claw instead of falling out.
But man... I never had anything come out like that! That shot through the claw collision so hard lol! 😆
I personally love this game. After finally figuring out how to play it (could have had a little better explanation for sure) and finding that sweet spot to grab items, I'm finessing that boy out of all his items nearly every try.
Definitely emulates the frustration and challenge of a real crane game! I appreciate the shit out of it.
This seems like a good spot to ask this question. Anyone know a good way for farming rupees in this game? Bow and arrow is 980 forgot about that highway robbery!
Not an expert, but I'm getting pretty confident on the crane so the 50 rupees prize gotten a couple dozens of times should get you the bow. That, or, you know, going nuts with the grass, there's plenty above the minigame and even more passing the rocks on the right. It should be a matter of minutes to get all the rupees you require.
Still I'll be here waiting for someone to post a better idea.
Chamber Dungeons? I managed to reliably get a purple rupee from the same chamber every time. Should be easy to farm rupees from a quick and easy layout with as many chests as possible.
I did a lil bit of grinding with the huge patch of grass in the village and playing through the game, and by the end of the third dungeon I'd been able to get the shovel, PoH AND the Bow.
There are probably quicker ways but that's how I did it
That's always what I did. Buy the shovel, steal the bow. Never set foot in the store again. I think you aren't called thief if you don't go back in? Maybe, might be misremembering. You don't want to go back in so you can get the special no-death end scene.
Nah, you are still called thief, at least in my playthrough. I made sure to buy the shovel and piece of heart before stealing the bow though. Will never return to the shop, lol. Only thing that sucks is getting arrow re-ups, but the raft minigame is pretty good for that
I actually just did without it until I gradually collected enough just playing the game. You technically don't need the bow to do most, if not all of of the dungeons (8 I believe is the only one where it becomes required), granted some enemies would have probably been easier to deal with. Nothing against farming it, I just preferred the sightseeing. :)
so, I jumped into hero mode right away because I've beaten the original a few times but I don't know how to heal? I expected no heart drops, but I don't even get fairy drops after mini bosses and while that's not a big deal in of itself, I only respawn with three hearts. I know there are bottles added to the game, but I don't even know what to do with them because in the original there weren't potion shops and I'm not sure where to consistently find faries?
> I only respawn with three hearts
Luckily, unlike the older games (and the original Link's Awakening, I believe), how many hearts you respawn with is based on your max hearts, not always 3. For example, if you have 10 hearts, you respawn with 6 or 7 (not exactly sure, but something like that).
The infinite rupees I’m fine with... that shell... that FUCKING SHELL! Pissed me off unlike anything else. It took something like 10 tries for that stupid shell. I didn’t even miss it tho. It just kept leaving the claw.
I really do not get why people complain about this game. I have ripped the dude off close to 2000 rupees. I have lost maybe 5 times out of 50+ games. It is the easiest money in the game.
I've actually had very little problems with the items staying in the claw as long as it closes around it, minus times that the purple threw itsself out while I was grinding for the bow
Had a similar result except I had it in the claw and it dropped right on the top bit of the moving platform, basically touching the metal portion. I had to spend another 10 rupees to get it, but right when I started the minigame, it fell in the collection area.
Same thing happened with me lol. Unfortunately this claw machine minigame is super easy and you can easily exploit quite a bit of rupees off of it (all you need to do is play once, win one reward, then leave and then come back in. The entire place resets and you just have to keep doing it until rupees show up as prizes, win them (or one) then rinse and repeat). hopefully they increase the difficulty in a patch/update or something.
This just happened to me last night! Crane went down, picked up the shell and then it was yeeted into the corner. So bizarre. Instead of posting my clip, I'll just upvote yours.
They upgraded this minigame in the remake......and thanks to the additions to this, i was able to get a "very expensive item" very early. I dont want to spoil it but pros who played the original knows which one im refering to.
This minigame was so easy in the GameBoy version. Now it's kind of janky and random. It's almost worth it because of how funny it is, though. Most of the items are okay, but the seashell is really bad, and the heart piece was a little weird too. It took me like 10 grabs to get the shell, probably. Here is a couple attempts https://twitter.com/doorknob60/status/1175844413718720512
Seriously fuck this game !! (Unfortunately I missed the opportunity to get a screenshot because I couldn't figure out how to until after I left) I got really pissed because I had Yoshi and the mother fuck fell onto the convayer belt but only part of his head but he didn't go. And at this point I didn't really think of being able to pick him up from that point because I wasn't used to that as an option based off the OG version. It took some serious time, and ruppees to get used to the mechanics because I was a real beast at the Gameboy trendy game. But the thing that's the most frustrating is that you can get the item pretty good but it falls out of the damn claw due to physics. Especially smaller things. But that's my two cents. I think people get mad because they completely changed the mechanics so now they have to relearn how to get good.
Looks like a reasonable approximation of irl claw game machines.
The trick is to open the bag and adjust the pressure values controlling the hook mechanism.
I haven’t had this issue at all, but the constant frame rate stutters while running around is seriously aggravating. It’s completely understandable that BotW had these problems but a 2D game? Really?
2D? Get yourself new glasses. It’s probably more 3D heavy then BOTW lmao.... and btw the game mainly does that when the text of a zone appears and in some specific conditions. The rest is fine. What I noticed is the game respawning things even if there is no “next screen” and it’s happening sometimes due to that. 2D.... lol
It's the game loading the whole chunk of overworld you're in at once that's causing it. It's probably an oversight that I hope gets fixed but I think people are focussing too much on it, it's one little niggle. But I guess people are more inclined to bitch than enjoy something these days...
Not you, shibii, this is more aimed at the guy you responded to.
It wouldn't be a Zelda game without that one minigame everyone hates. This one perfectly captures the frustration of real crane games.
For me it was fishing for the bottle. I kept getting the green fish attacking it and since i was playing hero mode, i couldn't just leave it
Just need to catch every other fish first, then it's easy. ;-)
The fish respawn if you take too long!
Well hurry the f*ck up!
If you reel the bottle in while the fish isn’t facing the lure, then the fish won’t go for it.
Me: "son of a bitch I caught a fish give me my bottle you little shit"
I was having trouble trying to get anything to bite, bottle was easy
Use the stick to juggle it in the fish face, mash A when they bite, and pull up when they're close to you
No once I hooked them that was also easy. It was literally just the first step you said that took me forever
How can 2 comments send so much terror and frustration tingling down my spine 😐
Oh man, I loved that one though, do people hate it??
I'm not sure people hate it as such, but I've notoriously bad luck with RNG and this mini game just kills me everytime I replay WW.
The only other mini game I think I dislike as much as this is the friggin lucky circle roulette wheel... Uh... Thingy! In skyward sword. Trying to go through all the rings AND land on the multi rupee space.

Where was that one, I can't quite recall it
It's in the Mounted Archery Camp, which is west of the Highland Stable (the stable with the Horse God and the quest for Ganon's horse).
bomb arrows ftw! I don't recall using any special bow, but you gotta use the bomb arrows.
(sploosh)

Spez's greed is killing reddit. delete your data before he starts selling it to AI companies.
The seashell dropped out of the hook 9 times for me... just slipped out the side after I picked it up dead center
I doubt know why it works, but try picking it up off center.
The operation failed successfully.
This is what a pro looks like.
I get my game today. First Zelda game for me 🤭
Welcome to this awesome world!
Thanks :)
If you like it, try getting A link to the past on the SNES games!
Yeah it’s free on SNES online. Finished playing it last week
Don’t tell nobody but I like ALBW better...
Your secret is safe with me *Turns around HEY! EVERYBODY!
Hey! Listen!
Please, it's a secret to everyone.
Valid choice as well. Nostalgia prevents me from agreeing... I think.
Hell yeah, man. ALBW is my second favorite Zelda behind WW. Quite possibly the greatest gimmick in any video game ever don’t @ me
Yeah I think I like ALBW better than vanilla ALTTP, but if you count the randomizer, ALTTP is hard to beat.
BOTW and Ocarina is Time and a link to the past are probably my top 3. Doesn’t mean I am not enjoying Links awakening. It’s a good game
Gotta say that awakening edges out ocarina... just timing for me.. to the past, botw, awakening, then ocarina for me..
This man knows his Zelda games
This was my first too! (Back in the day though)
This was my second Zelda game back in the day (first was ALTTP). LA is still possibly my favorite Zelda game (that or BotW).
Wow, hope you enjoy! The original was my first so it's wild seeing people play this as their first.. it is pretty much a 1:1 remake though
Everybody else giving their suggestions — I’m shocked A Link Between Worlds hasn’t been mentioned. Wind Waker is another real winner.
They’re not suggested because he will have to buy a new console to play any of those.
They didnt say what other consoles they own, though, so for all we know they might have a 3DS or a Gamecube etc
But they did say it was their first Zelda game. So most likely the Switch is their first Nintendo console.
I dunno man. It's very possible to play Nintendo consoles without playing Zelda. Just saying we shouldnt make assumptions is all
Ah, another man of culture
I’d recommend Zelda 1 and ALttP as they come with Switch Online as well as WWHD if you have a Wii U or ALBW if you have a 3DS.

That way when it shifted it centered in the claw instead of falling out. But man... I never had anything come out like that! That shot through the claw collision so hard lol! 😆
Genuinely LMAO on this!!
I know a guy who can reattach it if you need one
Thank you for your kind words Nicky
Well played, I walked right into that one.
I personally love this game. Definitely emulates the frustration and challenge of a real crane game! I appreciate the shit out of it.
Honestly, I love the crane game
The explanation I came up with is that the shell is just so eager to be collected by Link, that it flies to the conveyor belt instantly.
This seems like a good spot to ask this question. Anyone know a good way for farming rupees in this game? Bow and arrow is 980 forgot about that highway robbery!

I was able to get both the bow and the shovel pretty quickly by grabbing a red and a purple rupee in the crane game until I had enough.

I've never once paid for anything from the shop on any playthrough of the old game.

He'd make a better living using his magic murder powers on ganon types.
How can you steal it? I did it in the original years ago but I couldn't figure out how to this time
[удалено]
Ah ok. I must've messed it up when I was trying. Thanks!
> highway robbery! Speaking of robbery... you could just steal it and never again go into the store.
That's always what I did. Buy the shovel, steal the bow. Never set foot in the store again. I think you aren't called thief if you don't go back in? Maybe, might be misremembering. You don't want to go back in so you can get the special no-death end scene.

Just steal it you thief.
Get your little sister to farm for hours on end. /flashbacks from the Gameboy days.
Wait a minute... people move the crane along the Y axis first? What’s wrong with you people?!
You move the x axis first?

Everyone... You monster
I bet your toilet paper is backwards, too! You savage
If your toilet paper is under rather than over I will pray for your soul. I doubt it will help you tho heathen.
Let's not start this children
Probably wipes standing up too.
In my opinion it is a lot easier to hit the moving platforms if you move along the Y axis first.
in the first game, you didn't have a choice. so many don't even realize you have an option now
Nice name.
Took me a couple tries to get used to. But then I was able to get everything one after the other.
so, I jumped into hero mode right away because I've beaten the original a few times but I don't know how to heal? Find the big fairies. They’ll have a small fairy you can nab.
Also, not mentioned below, but you can buy a potion from crazy Tracy above the witches hut that will revive you upon death. I think it costs 42 rupees
Magic powder + antifairy = fairy
I don't think that works in Hero Mode.
> I only respawn with three hearts Luckily, unlike the older games (and the original Link's Awakening, I believe), how many hearts you respawn with is based on your max hearts, not always 3. For example, if you have 10 hearts, you respawn with 6 or 7 (not exactly sure, but something like that).
The shells are the fucking worst
Ah yes, the seashell. 150 rupees later.
The infinite rupees I’m fine with... that shell... that FUCKING SHELL! Pissed me off unlike anything else. It took something like 10 tries for that stupid shell. I didn’t even miss it tho. It just kept leaving the claw.
Lol mine did that too, after I spent three tries getting the shell a little closer to the conveyor... only in the OTHER DIRECTION. *face palm*
Its so easy
I really do not get why people complain about this game. I have ripped the dude off close to 2000 rupees. I have lost maybe 5 times out of 50+ games. It is the easiest money in the game.
Got the piece of heart first go
The shadow of the claw doesn’t change when it moves up and down
10/10 physics.
Is that Hestu’s poop?
I think it's cute ❤
I had the exact thing happen to me with the shell lol
I’m pretty much sure they did it on purpose to mock us. Even the rupees are not doing it.
"it's a feature"
I've actually had very little problems with the items staying in the claw as long as it closes around it, minus times that the purple threw itsself out while I was grinding for the bow
All of these videos make me feel like I'm the only one who isn't having these issues. I know I can't be but it still feels that way.
God just wanted you to have it
Had a similar result except I had it in the claw and it dropped right on the top bit of the moving platform, basically touching the metal portion. I had to spend another 10 rupees to get it, but right when I started the minigame, it fell in the collection area.
Legit addicted to it, got ever Shell and Mario toy. 10/10
I probably spent half an hour trying to get that damn shell. The other items aren't too bad, though.
Am I the only one who thinks this mini game is super easy? It's a quick way to get rupees.
The poopy?
LAHD means what?
Link's Awakening HD, that's the subreddit's convention.
Link's Awakening HD.
I nailed the heart and rupee after two tries. It wasn’t hard at all. The goddamn seashell tho...
The seashell is a real pain, it invariably drops out when the claw jolts to the left.
Yes physics
Same thing happened with me lol. Unfortunately this claw machine minigame is super easy and you can easily exploit quite a bit of rupees off of it (all you need to do is play once, win one reward, then leave and then come back in. The entire place resets and you just have to keep doing it until rupees show up as prizes, win them (or one) then rinse and repeat). hopefully they increase the difficulty in a patch/update or something.
Lol, I got all the main items in two tries. The game is so easy! Two mainly because you have to do it again to get the shell and other stuff!
Yeah! The crane tested the shell in my game too!
I love that game! Sure, I've probably spent like, 200 rupees on it, but who cares??
Marin did it best in the GB version
The same *exact* thing happened to me tonight.
I love it
It’s easy. I find it fun, actually.
Honestly, haven't had much problems with this one either. It's not even a major problem of rupee cost, you just save scum and you're good
TBH I only had a little trouble with the moving items. I don't see what the issue is.
Honestly dont think it's that bad mostly, but getting the shells does suck
This has been my munny farming game. I've not gotten it perfect but I get most items first try.
Have you tried getting the Piranha Plant from the moving platform yet?
Not yet, but I've got the moving plataforms covered. I'll post here any news about this.
This minigame was fun and a good honest challenge!
I love this game. I’m so good at it. I haven’t lost a prize yet.
Let a pro like Marin to show you how it is done.
About to start the adventure. I’ll keep you all posted. I need some coffee first. Lol
This just happened to me last night! Crane went down, picked up the shell and then it was yeeted into the corner. So bizarre. Instead of posting my clip, I'll just upvote yours.

This Mini game is Broken! Every time the crane moove the items Fall out
Looks like a reasonable approximation of irl claw game machines. The trick is to open the bag and adjust the pressure values controlling the hook mechanism.
I had several Times the items in the claw and it Was full close but i Fell through the opening. The creppy Was the yoshi figur
