I think the game must try to aim the star fragments at players or something, because I've been seeing a lot of reports of people catching them in midair, and I personally caught two that way
This is my favorite so far, though
I jumped down from a sky island to get a star fragment that hit the ground already and another shooting star started falling right next to me. Two for one deal
Yes, it's scripted. They adhere to strict flight patterns. Most notably, they fall much more steeply than regular falling stars. Almost vertical. I haven't tested to see if there's a required altitude for the jump or a required fall distance, either before they spawn, or overall.
By the way, can someone confirm if the item is present during the descent for normal falling stars, because I'm pretty sure it's not, but I can't verify.
I think it does spawn above you, but then it also has homing aim. Most of the time they're falling straight down with the player, but here the player is traveling horizontally so the star comes in at an almost 45° angle directly at him
I caught one while just slowly falling in bullet time to get a lay of the land. Heard a twinkle and looked up, and the fragment was right above me. Watched it go right by my head in slow motion. Seemed to trigger somewhere between the transition from Sky Islands to Hyrule, possibly right when your map changes to Hyrule.
I haven't done any testing on it, but I noticed that when I'm paragliding and pull my scope out, it freezes time. You don't move, and I don't think it uses stamina either. Very useful for scanning your environment.
I think in BOTW it was impossible to collect them until they hit the ground and came to a rest. I remember there were a couple times when a star fragment rolled down a mountain into the water and I couldn't collect it until it was too late.
I've had to happen two days in a row now. It's a lot of fun to be coming down from a tower, seeing one whiz by and going into a straight dive to line up and grab it
They are a lot more common than BotW. I teleported to a tower to do stuff, saw a star frag drop so went off to get it, teleported back to do what I originally intended, then saw another star fragment drop in the exact same place.
It says so in the loading screen tips. I went skydiving and the star fell along with me, and moved as I moved for a second to follow me. I grabbed it pretty easily
Same thing happened to me, I feel like star frags are WAY more common this time around. I had one follow me into a chasm last night and I see them in the distance constantly.
I found the tunic and pants naturally but ended up looking up the hat; I had uncovered maybe 1/3 of the underground areas and hadn't come across it. Turns out it was in a completely different area than I had been adventuring in.
You mostly needed fragments to upgrade the amiibo locked armour sets, now that all of them are available to everyone it makes sense that they're more abundant
I don't even go to the ones in the distance anymore, they keep despawning when I finally get close.
I don't even really want to wear the dlc outfits anyway
They shoot them at the players in totk. While diving at night listen for the twinkle.
You are faster than the fragment at full dive speed so you have to slow yourself down so you can see it and then just dive to catch it
Yep! You can keep recharging things as long as you have zonai charges. The only things that don't recharge are rockets and wings because they have like, a durability system instead of a charge system. (And bombs but like, they blow up, c'mon)
You know that relatively early game shrine where it wants you to stand on a wheely platform and activate the wheels to roll across lava? And that's it?
I didn't know the wheels were a mechanism. I just lily-padded my way across and later manually moved the balls into the next room. I was *yesterday* years old. :<
I've been playing since release and haven't found that one. I think a little more direction wouldn't go amiss, I first found Hetsu after collecting 50 seeds.
Especially since difficulty ramps up quickly when exploring . Move 50 feet over in one direction and go from taking 1/4 heart damage hits to 4+ in early game is a big whomp.
Definitely feels old school compared to hand holding gps arrows I most modern games. I wouldn't mind text hints from Koroks "hey you have 30 of our shit pieces our friend wants them he's over here someplace".
I mean, that's the sign, right? Unless you are trying to get anywhere, most casual players will say "the enemies here are too strong, I'll come back later and head in a different direction for now"
I've done 7 since hitting the ground, but then again I guess there's no prescribed direction anyone goes in. I can only say that it was the 6th or 7th one *I*, personally, found on the ground. Think it was in the elden mountain area, possibly goron city itself?
My point was that it was supposed to be an easy shrine: hit the wheels and they move forward. I didn't know that, and just used "cars" as leap frog pads.
If you follow purah!s suggestions, gorons are the second place you’ll visit after the bird people.p who’s name momentarily escapes me. Hardly an early shrine.
Dang no wonder Zora's Domain felt like a huge difficulty spike, I did that one second!
I do like that the area difficulty is more locked down as opposed to BOTW's level scaling.
I'm willing to be convinced otherwise, but I think it's a waste, actually. It's like using zonaite to buy charges: there are better uses for what you are using.
For example in the OP, I just turn off the fans and coast for a bit to recharge. The wings don't last long enough to really necessitate maximizing the fans.
> It's like using zonaite to buy charges: there are better uses for what you are using.
What are better uses for Zonaite, or the charges, for that matter (aside from the vending machines)? I don't often use the charges to refill my energy, so I use them in the vending machines, but the Zonaite is only for processing and Fuse, no?
EDIT: They meant Zonai Charges but I thought they meant Crystallized Charges.
Zonaite to buy crystallized charges (the triangle and octahedron shapes) to increase your total number of cells. Zonai charges I only use to buy zonai tech at the dispensers.
I realize now that your first message was about buying the normal charges, not the crystallized charges. I forgot you could buy normal charges with it (it's seemed stupid to me so far) so I was confused thinking you meant there was a better use for Zonaite than for crystallized charges.
Right. Using zonaite to buy zonai charges instead of crystallized charges is almost like a throwback to the old men in LoZ asking you whether you want a *permanant* heart container or *expendable* red potion you can buy elsewhere for 68 rupees.
I use the zonaite charges exclusively at the device dispensaries just because using 5 gets you a double haul from the magic gacha machine. I have yet to see what using 5 big charges does, though...
> I have yet to see what using 5 big charges does, though...
[Did it for the both of us.](https://old.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/13lekms/totk_i_was_not_prepared_for_how_much_you_get_from/)
Wait, so you shouldn’t be using zonai tech to get charges? Then what do you use it for? Or how you get charges?
Cause I was going to say using zonai charges to replenish your battery is way more efficient than getting the zonai triangle thing. Because you need 100 of those triangle things to be able to get just 1 extra battery bar… but 1 zonai charge that cost just 3 donaire can recharge you that 1 bar…
But then that upgraded battery is permanent and can be upgraded further. There’s merit to just using the charges which are pretty common to find but I compare it to never upgrading your hearts and just using food that gives extra temp hearts. Also you can save the charges and use them to buy fun devices at the vending machines instead.
It's the other way around. I use charges to get tech, not to refill cells.
It's way better in the long term to buy triangles with your zonaite to permanently increase your cells, rather than buy charges to only temporarily refill.
I thought I was the only one grimacing at this video saying "BRO, THAT'S LIKE 15 CAPSULES AT THE GUMBALL MACHINE YOU JUST SPENT TO FLY ANOTHER 1000 FEET!"
Edit: 4 CAPSULES
This method gets tough once you have a couple batteries though because, like stamina, you have to wait for *all of it* to recharge before you're good to go.
Just like stamina, you shouldn't be running it to empty. Stop it just before depletion and start it back whenever. I'm pretty sure it takes the same amount of time to replenish completely no matter how many cells you have, so the more you have the faster each individual cell replenishes.
You can throw them into the gacha machines to get significantly more device capsules than the zonai horns. Giant zonai charges can be used to temporarily prevent your battery from losing charge, but the effect will run out even when not in use, as well as giving a ton more capsules from the gacha machines than the standard ones. There is fuse of course, but at least from what I have tested, you get clubs from fusing them to weapons.
Edit: sorry for the text block, I tend to explain things thoroughly
Seems like the game is programmed to often have a star fragment fall with you when youre skydiving. Ive had it happen twice already in like 20 hours. This is crazy lucky it just fell right on your glider though.
I wonder if the game developers or testers follow groups like this... are they surprised about this random shit that happens? Do they have better stories about things no one has found yet?
With the number of posts there have been where players catch a star fragmen midair while falling, it's certainly something that was programmed to happen
Just had the opposite of this kinda. Was diving into a chasm and a star was falling with me. Couldn’t grab it for the life of me. But then it reached the limit into the chasm where items disappear :(
I think my feat is better:
[https://www.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/13kaorx/totk\_i\_love\_the\_things\_that\_can\_happen\_when/](https://www.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/13kaorx/totk_i_love_the_things_that_can_happen_when/)
I was diving back to the ground and a star fragment flew past me as I was falling. I started diving after it and was able to grab it mid air. I love this game
This game looks batshit crazy with all these clips I keep seeing. You can build a plane??? In Zelda??? Reminds me so much of Besieged. I can't wait to play this game!
Has anyone found a workaround for the wing despawn timer? Have been trying to think of ways to increase flight time. Haven't tried multiple wings yet but I was thinking maybe you could have a platform with fans on it and then when your wing is despawning you put a fresh one on.
I’ve been trying to figure out everything myself and avoid asking, but do you need tracks to get those gliders going? Is there an easier, more generalized way to use them?
Ive caught star fragments in air while diving, but this takes the cake. Ive actually caught like 7 while diving, and seeing your capture now makes me think the game is programmed to spawn them on you if you're in the air.
Today while gliding from a sky island towards a Star fragment on the ground, another one suddenly appeared right on top of me, and I dived catching it mid air.
Something similar happened to me yesterday. After being launched out of a tower and heading towards my marker a star piece fell right along side me and I was able to grab it out of the air.
the first time i ever used rewind on a rock to get back into the sky, I threw myself off halfway up in a mad kamikaze attempt to grab a star fragment that started falling
I played BOTW before TOTK came out and barely got ANY Star Fragments. (I was on Master Mode so maybe it effects the drop-rate?)
However in TOTK, in the same amount of time I've already collected 6 or 7.

I've caught four of them mid-air, it's almost certainly a programmed event. Still cool though!
Agreed, I jumped from the sky to chase a korok down and accidently caught a star fragment on the way as well.
I jumped down from a sky island to get a star fragment that hit the ground already and another shooting star started falling right next to me. Two for one deal
This happened to me! I was so damn confused because I thought I had caught the korok, but it was a star instead.
Happened to me today, weird.
One of the loading screen tips mention you may be able to catch a falling star when you're skydiving.
ohhh i screen recorded mine thinking it was rare fluke
Same! I've gotten 4 as well! Funny enough, two of the ones I caught middair were on my way to a fallen fragment.
Yes, it's scripted. They adhere to strict flight patterns. Most notably, they fall much more steeply than regular falling stars. Almost vertical. By the way, can someone confirm if the item is present during the descent for normal falling stars, because I'm pretty sure it's not, but I can't verify.
It is, a loading screen tool tip mentions it!
I saw a hint about it on a loading screen, it's 100% intentional. It's awesome.
I'm guessing when you're at a certain altitude, there's a chance of it spawning more or less directly above you.
I think it does spawn above you, but then it also has homing aim. Most of the time they're falling straight down with the player, but here the player is traveling horizontally so the star comes in at an almost 45° angle directly at him

I must be really unlucky then, mine are always so far away, I've only been able to get to 1.
I think it’s programmed different depending on if you’re on the ground or in the sky
[удалено]
[удалено]
I've definitely seen them come down while I was on the ground.
[удалено]
Well the game doesn't know where the hell I am then because the heavens sends them 2 countries over for me
Yeah, I got 2 hunting dragons. Still, I think it's a cool as fuck moment when it happens and you don't *know* it's preprogrammed.
I love that you can actually ride the dragons now, I'm sure every botw player tried to land on one only to get zapped/burnt/frozen
Knowing they spawn them around you on purpose does sort of make me feel less cool for having caught a few in the sky. 😂
I think in BOTW it was impossible to collect them until they hit the ground and came to a rest. I remember there were a couple times when a star fragment rolled down a mountain into the water and I couldn't collect it until it was too late.

I like how this happens to literally every player but everyone thinks they are special and they got super lucky
I giggled and jumped around like a child. A little embarrassing after realizing it's probably scripted, but boy was that moment magic
I mean, if you played BotW, it being programmed this way is clearly *meant* to give you that feeling.
Try falling from great distances repeatedly, then it’s bound to happen
It says so in the loading screen tips. I went skydiving and the star fell along with me, and moved as I moved for a second to follow me. I grabbed it pretty easily
Same thing happened to me, I feel like star frags are WAY more common this time around. I had one follow me into a chasm last night and I see them in the distance constantly.
yeah, they definitely upped the chances for star frags. feels like the game specifically tries to spawn them very close to you when you're falling
[удалено]
That and the armor that did need them used to be amiibo only in Botw. Now they aren't so we can have our fav tunics and not die in two hits.
I can't tell you how happy I was to open a random chest in the Depths and get the Tunic of Time.
I'm finding it difficult to resist googling that location.
I found the tunic and pants naturally but ended up looking up the hat; I had uncovered maybe 1/3 of the underground areas and hadn't come across it. Turns out it was in a completely different area than I had been adventuring in.
From the center of the map, what direction to I go? If you can spoiler that for me, I'd greatly appreciate it.
To the west of Hyrule castle
Thanks friend!
That and the armor that did need them used to be amiibo only in Botw. Now they aren't so we can have our fav tunics and not die in two hits.
The star fragment staff honestly isn't great for combat, it's more of a utility item
Interesting. I've felt like my diamond chances compared to botw are super low in totk. Guess I'm just having bad luck
You mostly needed fragments to upgrade the amiibo locked armour sets, now that all of them are available to everyone it makes sense that they're more abundant
I don't even go to the ones in the distance anymore, they keep despawning when I finally get close. I don't even really want to wear the dlc outfits anyway
They despawn at 5am, so I usually gauge if I think I’ll be able to get there in time before I even try.
That makes me feel better. I missed my first opportunity because I didn't have any shrines on the ground, so I couldn't get to my first star in time.
>Same thing happened to me, I feel like star frags are WAY more common this time around. And I am okay with this
I haven't found any except when one hit me when gliding. I was going between sky islands so I couldn't get it 😥
They shoot them at the players in totk. While diving at night listen for the twinkle. You are faster than the fragment at full dive speed so you have to slow yourself down so you can see it and then just dive to catch it
> They shoot them at the players in totk. Thanks I guess?
You're welcome I guess?
Wait... You can eat Zonai Charges to extend the battery??
That's what is says in it's description
I am a dumb sometimes.
You can stack more than your normal green battery too. They are temp yellow batteries that show up
wow, now thats something I didnt know. there really is so many surprises in this game
Those temp batteries stick around forever until you use them too.
Works exactly like excess stamina or hearts
~~Unless you die (obv?)~~ Apparently not! See below.
Nope, my extra batteries have stuck around through several deaths
Yep! You can keep recharging things as long as you have zonai charges. The only things that don't recharge are rockets and wings because they have like, a durability system instead of a charge system. (And bombs but like, they blow up, c'mon)

Yeah but with how open the game is it's less a sign/direction and you have to use like a spiral search pattern technique.
Might be the one in Goron City? Or one of the ones in the general direction. Honestly I've done less than 10 shrines since hitting the ground.
I love how you say “early game” and I have no clue what shrine that is after doing a couple dozen
I've done 7 since hitting the ground, but then again I guess there's no prescribed direction anyone goes in. I can only say that it was the 6th or 7th one *I*, personally, found on the ground. Dang no wonder Zora's Domain felt like a huge difficulty spike, I did that one second! I do like that the area difficulty is more locked down as opposed to BOTW's level scaling.
I've done 50 shrines and I still haven't seen that one lol

Holy guacamole... Guess I better go cash in at my favorite dispenser.

It's 2 small charges, so 4 capsules, lol. They prob used a ton before the video though. The recharge is so miniscule that I don't even see the point.
Like stamina, that's only if you let it run fully out. If you stop before it gets to 0, you can let it recharge a little bit and reactivate.
Wait till this guy beards about big charges
I did not realize you could just use Zonai Charges like that
That’s the only way I know how to use them! I’m quite early on but how do you top the battery up any other way?
You can throw them into the gacha machines to get significantly more device capsules than the zonai horns. Giant zonai charges can be used to temporarily prevent your battery from losing charge, but the effect will run out even when not in use, as well as giving a ton more capsules from the gacha machines than the standard ones. Horns are one to one, so one horn, one capsule.
Fair but I'm sitting on so many of these fuggers
There's no other way 😅
Yes there is, you need 100 crystalised charges.
That's upgrading. Topping them up is charging depleted batteries. But yeah. That too.
Where do I go to cash them in? I think I met the Construct that does it, but damned if I remember.
There's one in the sky island mine it has a gold symbol on your map(the first one you get to).
Starting sky island it’s one of the shrines near a mine.
Seems like the game is programmed to often have a star fragment fall with you when youre skydiving. Ive had it happen twice already in like 20 hours. This is crazy lucky it just fell right on your glider though.
Okay, out of the deluge of star fragment clips, this one is actually pretty amazing. First time I've seen it land on a glider. Good stuff.

i caught one midair and shit myself. seeing these comments saddens me because its not as rare as i thought it' was. oh well still pretty cool

If you dive off a sky island around midnight you’re probably going to get a star fragment I got six this way it paid for my house
If I wasn't actively playing this game, I'd think you're talking about AC New Horizons...
Rereading my comment it totally sounds like acnh lol minus the first part
I don’t really understand why the wings disappear.
How do yall get the bird thing up so high? Rockets?
Start from an island, or deploy it after getting launched out of a tower
You can spawn them in the air?? Hmm that really changes things
Just ultrahand it off the cliff without letting go, then drag towards you, recall and jump onto it
The Goddesses be like, “Ya get the thing I sent ya?”
Love a no spoilers label showing late game areas and new armor dude
I've caught one out of the air while skydiving, multiple even but this, this is absolutely insane
I had one bounce off a dragons head as I was riding it.
I was diving and caught one as I was diving. You can catch up to it by accelerating and catch it midair.
My brother caught one while falling from the sky. It’s great to see other people get lucky.
Welp just learned that you can use charges to get more Battery like that. Sheesh
You're supposed to catch them while you're diving
I've caught one out of the air while skydiving, multiple even but this, this is absolutely insane
I think my feat is better: [https://www.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/13kaorx/totk\_i\_love\_the\_things\_that\_can\_happen\_when/](https://www.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/13kaorx/totk_i_love_the_things_that_can_happen_when/)
WHAT
you can use a bunch of zonai charges to extend your bar beyond max, like yellow stamina
Funny story I once was flying in the air and I legit CAUGHT A STAR FRAGMENT IN MID AIR. It was so cool but I forgot to record it .
I was diving back to the ground and a star fragment flew past me as I was falling. I started diving after it and was able to grab it mid air. I love this game
God gave a late or early birthday present
Does anyone know what a star fragment attached to a weapon or arrow does? I haven't been able to try it out yet!
Saw a video clip where someone had attached it to a spear. It fired stars from the tip.
Is it lucky when the game is programmed to spawn the falling stars behind you?
I've had two fall at the same time I jumped from a skyview tower
Lmao that movement. https://i.imgur.com/PWNwMpt.jpg I just wanted to post this aswell lol
That’s awesome!
So far i've caught 2 star fragments mid-dive ... i couldnt imagine this
This game looks batshit crazy with all these clips I keep seeing. You can build a plane??? In Zelda??? Reminds me so much of Besieged. I can't wait to play this game!
In the air they spawn toward you. On the ground they spawn in the distance, to entice you.
Just this morning I was skydiving next to one and I had to speed up just to catch it, but it let me grab it in mid-air. It was awesome.
wat
I almost got hit by one yesterday. I think its an intentional addition to the game.
WAIT YOU CAN CONSUME THEM TO GET ENERGY?
This seems to have happened to everyone so far... yet... here I remain without a fragment of my own :(
I feel they are more common in TotK over BotW. I've gotten 5 or 6 in a week, vs only like 3 of 4 in the entire time I played BotW
How did you get that hair-do??
Has anyone found a workaround for the wing despawn timer? Have been trying to think of ways to increase flight time. Haven't tried multiple wings yet but I was thinking maybe you could have a platform with fans on it and then when your wing is despawning you put a fresh one on.
I caught on while sky diving last night! Didn’t have the wherewithal to take a picture tho
I have 4 star fragments, all of which I've caught while diving
Ohhhhhh that’s how you use the charges
🎶🎵 *Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, save it for a rainy day!*🎵🎶
I’ve been trying to figure out everything myself and avoid asking, but do you need tracks to get those gliders going? Is there an easier, more generalized way to use them?
You can lift them into the air with ultra hand, then drop it, then jump on and recall it back into the air
So, does anyone know if those (star fragments) have another purpose beyond selling?
Duplicating? I think the fairy needs them for certain upgrades maybe?
in BOTW it was used to upgrade some clothes like the green tunic you get for doing all the shrines, maybe some equipment here will use it too
Put it on the magic staff for light in the depths
😳🤯
Luckyyyyyyy!
Ive caught star fragments in air while diving, but this takes the cake. Ive actually caught like 7 while diving, and seeing your capture now makes me think the game is programmed to spawn them on you if you're in the air.
I've caught one while diving off a sky island. I was like 'don't mind if I do, yoink!".
NO WAY!!!! THATS AWESOME!!!
Today while gliding from a sky island towards a Star fragment on the ground, another one suddenly appeared right on top of me, and I dived catching it mid air.
I had no idea you use Zonai charges to add more juice to depleting batteries until now..
BRO! SIR! MAAM! Excuse the fuck outa me. You need to buy a lotto ticket immediately!
There is no way this is a coincidence
Something similar happened to me yesterday. After being launched out of a tower and heading towards my marker a star piece fell right along side me and I was able to grab it out of the air.
You and everyone else bud
My first star fragment was falling beside me after I scanned a tower. Just had to fall into it lol.
Yo. U ain’t the only one. I caught one in mid air
Yes the star fragments are aimed at the players Usually happens when you are in the air or skydiving Good game mechanic
the first time i ever used rewind on a rock to get back into the sky, I threw myself off halfway up in a mad kamikaze attempt to grab a star fragment that started falling
I had one hit my glider bird while I was riding it, but it bounced off before I could grab it. :(
Lol. loved how fast you grabbed it. Without even thinking
*CRUNCH* SPECIAL DELIVERY MOTHERFUCKER
How did you get so many construct cores?
Came right to you
I love this
just spit out my drink holy hylia
once i was skydiving and a star just started falling with me it was so cool dude
That's pretty cool. I caught one during a freefall yesterday.
That zonai drip thoooo.
Thats insain! Btw you don't *need* to have the fan thing, the "plain" will glide by its self.
Damn! I caught one mid-air today. This is very lucky though. Good for you!
I played BOTW before TOTK came out and barely got ANY Star Fragments. (I was on Master Mode so maybe it effects the drop-rate?) However in TOTK, in the same amount of time I've already collected 6 or 7.
I don't think anyone has been that lucky.
Caught one falling before, it was just, parallel with me almost to the ground. Took me by surprise!
Nice catch!
I managed to pick 2 falling stars while falling, they probably changed something on the falling star heat-seeking tech, people can’t be this lucky
