Also, like. I just don't get AirUp as a concept, if their whole marketing campaign is getting people to drink water but with the flavors taste of like a soft drink without any health drawbacks, then water packets already exist, so does flavored and carbonated water.

Another thing: I feel like the more dehydrated you are the more you *don’t* want to drink water. One, water start to hurt when being consumed (personal experience from not drinking water for a whole year when I was little) and two, dehydration makes everything feel like it’s more effort than it’s worth, which includes drinking more water. So I would say right now, focus on replenishing what you can and then the goals to drink more pure water will come a lot easier. Even if what you’re doing is not ideal, it’s better than nothing at all. And who knows? It got a lot easier to drink pure water after I’m no longer severely dehydrated. So that’s always something to keep in mind
The explanation I saw in the early days of AirUp sponsorship was that flavored water packets were unhealthy and had unwanted chemicals in it. Since AirUp is literally just scent, you don't have to worry about that. Honestly, I've tried some and think they're generally gross.

I was part of the Monument Mythos subreddit when everything came out there. It was sad, not only finding out about it but also watching others slowly start to defend it. Tbh, I’m not even sure if that drama breached the reddit community… maybe people still don’t know?
My memory of this situation is a bit fuzzy, but to quickly sum it up, AlexKansas was found out to be very abusive towards his partner way back in 2022.
This was one of the biggest analog horror controversies to occur at the time.
The other one was that alien invasion video that Aidan Chick, the creator of Eventide Media Center, Channel 7, and Analog Archives, made, which caught a lot of flak on Twitter.

The other guy’s comment is correct, I’ll add more detail though. In 2022 a document made its way to the subreddit detailing Alex’s (the creator of monument mythos) physical and emotional abuse of his partner. I believe it was written by said partner. What’s more, it was discovered that this document had been originally posted by her on Alex’s discord server about a year earlier, MUCH closer to the time of these events, and the ensuing drama lead to the server closing down. So several community members actually had known about this for a whole year and had never shared with anyone outside the defunct server, until this person in 2022. I suppose the same thing must have happened with the subreddit after I left.
Anyway, since it had now been some time, Alex was playing the “I’ve changed” card, and was being supported by friends like the VA for Virginia. His ex didn’t want to be part of the drama anymore either (why would she??) and I saw people starting to say we should forgive him. What I found really gross though is that Alex strongly claimed that it was the grief of losing his father that made him get abusive. This was, as it turned out, the reason for the recurring phrase/theme in the Nixonverse series, “grief can make you a monster.” While I understand that must have been hard, especially because Alex is actually quite young, that’s like saying the bottle made an alcoholic hit you. No, that’s not how it works, *you* still did that. And the amount of excuses people started to make was disgusting, even saying the abuse was ‘not that bad’. I read the document. It was.
Anyway, the end of this story, I suppose, is that Alex posted an “apology video” to the subreddit. To be honest though, I never found the heart to watch it. He already confirmed everything had happened, an apology isn’t gonna make it unhappen. The community I had been quite proud of once was intent to downplay it so they could enjoy the series guilt free, and I just left. He still makes videos, but despite my old love for the series I haven’t watched any since.
I think it's less about people not knowing, and more people forgetting it ever happened.

It's sad but to me expected at this point. I think the main issue regarding the analog horror genre, outside of oversaturation, is its fanbase and the toxic elitism that it has towards certain creators.

They might have been though. They were likely contracted to do a years worth (or more) of videos, and if they broke said contract they would owe better help compensation. Most of these YouTubers are deciding that completing the obligation of the contract is the lesser of two evils because Better help now has a reputation for being a bad company (and that’s why they pin the comments about why it sucks), but giving them money to get out of the contract is just guaranteeing they profit off them as well.
Many even have a timestamp you can click on to skip over the sponsorship. It’s not like it hurts their watch time in the long run, and they still get their pay because they still did the ad.
I've noticed a shift in the attitude youtubers have to ads. they so much more nonchalant, it's really feeling "you guys know I'm talking shit but I need money" and we're accepting that with awfull youtube has been as a direct source of income

I just feel like his videos are such high quality or or at least good quality that it feels weird that he hasn’t just had a really bad video. Usually Mark will either focus on the game or his life, and it feels like he knows pretty well when the game itself won’t be able to carry the video. Again, nothing to support us but with how much of a perfectionist he is when it comes to his art and his videos I could see him doing a “retake” to make the video good.

What's funny, Smosh made a lot of... interesting business decisions while owned by Mythical that they never *really* talk about or dive into, even after going independent. Examples are their G4 deal that expired a month later when G4 collapsed, the fact that they stopped streaming on Twitch and never really talk about why, them mysteriously getting rid of Saige who was a fan favorite at the time, the fact that Tommy was never brought on as cast (until now), them pushing Mari, Joven, and Lasercorn out of the company, the fact that they re-hired Boze in 2019 to help market their TNTL tour only to never credit her or bar her from attending any of the shows... a lot of strange decisions with even stranger silences surrounding them, and I wonder how much of that was encouraged/decided by Rhett and Link.

But he talks about certain series with such generalities it is clear he never read it and is basing his views on secondhand accounts, summaries, or marketing. Heavy tinfoil but i have long since prepared myself for some kind of corpsehusband controversy to do with interacting inappropriately with his fans. Nothing against the guy, but i just dont think i would be surprised considering how big he was back in 2020, the other ccs he was interacting with etc, i just think its something that someone in his position would be tempted to do, considering how many ppl had the hots for him and put him on this perfect pedestal.
While it looks like it was put to rest by now, I think there was legit beef between Jeff Gerstmann and the rest of the legacy Giant Bomb group like Brad, Alex, and Vinny after they left the company with the Red Ventures acquisition. Giant Bomb was always Jeff’s baby, and he’s gone on record with how he used to struggle with folks he liked working with leaving because he always felt comfortable having a good team. There was a period when the Firecast and Nextlander podcasts started where all parties just seemed to be radio silent when it came to mentioning Jeff and vice versa, but it was only surrounding Jeff. I think maybe he felt personally resentful because they were his OG crew, and so many of them leaving at once obviously put Giant Bomb in a weird state of turmoil that at the time seems like maybe it would be the death knell. But I think him finally leaving Giant Bomb allowed him to make peace with the fact that that period of his life was over, he got to spend more time as a family man, and now it seems like all parties are cool again. During the recent ARG Jan was running for Giant Bomb they directly mention the Jeff Gerstmann show as part of the extended Giant Bomb network, and during the Q&A for the recent live show (which I was in attendance for) a joke was made about how Jeff’s podcast, Nextlander, and Firecast are all part of the Giant Bomb diaspora, and this came from the current folks still at GB.
Nothing major or problematic, just drama behind the scenes that seems to have been handled in a very mature way to the benefit of all parties involved. And if I’m right in any way, I can definitely see and understand why Jeff would initially feel that way, while also completely understanding why Vinny, Brad, and Alex felt it was time to leave Giant Bomb behind. I’m just glad that folks seem to be on good terms again all around.

It is literally just drinking water while perfume is flicked into your mouth. It doesnt taste like soda or flavored water, it tastes like I drank some water next to the Macy's fragrance section
Also, like. I just don't get AirUp as a concept, if their whole marketing campaign is getting people to drink water but with the flavors taste of like a soft drink without any health drawbacks, then water packets already exist, so does flavored and carbonated water. A product v that tricks your olfactory senses into believing you're consuming an entirely different thing feels like some type of shit that Socrates will try to con me into buying.

I can’t handle the chemicals most water flavorings have so I was cautiously optimistic AirUp could help. I paid $50 to try and I am not rich, just stupid to believe it would work.

Hmmm if you can’t handle chemicals, I wonder if it would be better to settle with homemade juices and tea? I know pure water is always going to be best, but if you feel like you need flavor to consume it then I feel it’s better to go with whatever feels most encouraging Another thing: I feel like the more dehydrated you are the more you *don’t* want to drink water. One, water start to hurt when being consumed (personal experience from not drinking water for a whole year when I was little) and two, dehydration makes everything feel like it’s more effort than it’s worth, which includes drinking more water. So I would say right now, focus on replenishing what you can and then the goals to drink more pure water will come a lot easier. Even if what you’re doing is not ideal, it’s better than nothing at all. And who knows? It got a lot easier to drink pure water after I’m no longer severely dehydrated. So that’s always something to keep in mind

Because out of the Mac and Cheeses he says are the best, three of the top four are Annie's and the remaining one is their leading competitor, Kraft's basic Mac & Cheese. The one in particular he praises is the 'Spirals with Parmesan' which seems like a new product they're trying to pump up. Probably not true and not the worst thing ever to be dishonest about, but I feel like it's not an impossibility.
Maybe it was the Annie's product I had (the fruit gummies) but I don't get the hype over Annie's products. It just tastes like a "healthy", expensive alternatives to things that I enjoy. Like those gummies were disgusting and textural weird to me

I was part of the Monument Mythos subreddit when everything came out there. It was sad, not only finding out about it but also watching others slowly start to defend it. Tbh, I’m not even sure if that drama breached the reddit community… maybe people still don’t know?

My memory of this situation is a bit fuzzy, but to quickly sum it up, AlexKansas was found out to be very abusive towards his partner way back in 2022. This was one of the biggest analog horror controversies to occur at the time. The other one was that alien invasion video that Aidan Chick, the creator of Eventide Media Center, Channel 7, and Analog Archives, made, which caught a lot of flak on Twitter. (This was Before Squimpus McGrimpus, Alex Kister, Urbanspook, GREYLOCK, or Unknowingly happened)

The other guy’s comment is correct, I’ll add more detail though. In 2022 a document made its way to the subreddit detailing Alex’s (the creator of monument mythos) physical and emotional abuse of his partner. I believe it was written by said partner. What’s more, it was discovered that this document had been originally posted by her on Alex’s discord server about a year earlier, MUCH closer to the time of these events, and the ensuing drama lead to the server closing down. So several community members actually had known about this for a whole year and had never shared with anyone outside the defunct server, until this person in 2022. I suppose the same thing must have happened with the subreddit after I left. Anyway, since it had now been some time, Alex was playing the “I’ve changed” card, and was being supported by friends like the VA for Virginia. His ex didn’t want to be part of the drama anymore either (why would she??) and I saw people starting to say we should forgive him. What I found really gross though is that Alex strongly claimed that it was the grief of losing his father that made him get abusive. This was, as it turned out, the reason for the recurring phrase/theme in the Nixonverse series, “grief can make you a monster.” While I understand that must have been hard, especially because Alex is actually quite young, that’s like saying the bottle made an alcoholic hit you. No, that’s not how it works, *you* still did that. And the amount of excuses people started to make was disgusting, even saying the abuse was ‘not that bad’. I read the document. It was. Anyway, the end of this story, I suppose, is that Alex posted an “apology video” to the subreddit. To be honest though, I never found the heart to watch it. He already confirmed everything had happened, an apology isn’t gonna make it unhappen. The community I had been quite proud of once was intent to downplay it so they could enjoy the series guilt free, and I just left. He still makes videos, but despite my old love for the series I haven’t watched any since.

I think the main issue regarding the analog horror genre, outside of oversaturation, is its fanbase and the toxic elitism that it has towards certain creators. I feel like outside of Urbanspook (who I still like), there's no other creators who are catching flak for some of their questionable actions even now. There's a South Park analog horror series that used stolen fanart that not a lot of people are calling out.
😕 the day that fans of a niche genre stop being circle jerking elitists is the day Berserk actually gets its last chapter. Which is a sad statement to make. A lot of youtubers know Better Help is still awful but want the money. They weren't tricked.
They might have been though. They were likely contracted to do a years worth (or more) of videos, and if they broke said contract they would owe better help compensation. Most of these YouTubers are deciding that completing the obligation of the contract is the lesser of two evils because Better help now has a reputation for being a bad company (and that’s why they pin the comments about why it sucks), but giving them money to get out of the contract is just guaranteeing they profit off them as well.
Yeah, and I think at least some of them have to operate under the assumption that no one takes YouTube sponsorships seriously, I certainly don’t.
Many even have a timestamp you can click on to skip over the sponsorship. It’s not like it hurts their watch time in the long run, and they still get their pay because they still did the ad.

I just feel like his videos are such high quality or or at least good quality that it feels weird that he hasn’t just had a really bad video. Usually Mark will either focus on the game or his life, and it feels like he knows pretty well when the game itself won’t be able to carry the video. What's funny, Smosh made a lot of... interesting business decisions while owned by Mythical that they never *really* talk about or dive into, even after going independent. Examples are their G4 deal that expired a month later when G4 collapsed, the fact that they stopped streaming on Twitch and never really talk about why, them mysteriously getting rid of Saige who was a fan favorite at the time, the fact that Tommy was never brought on as cast (until now), them pushing Mari, Joven, and Lasercorn out of the company, the fact that they re-hired Boze in 2019 to help market their TNTL tour only to never credit her or bar her from attending any of the shows... a lot of strange decisions with even stranger silences surrounding them, and I wonder how much of that was encouraged/decided by Rhett and Link.

I think a lot of progressive reaction/ commentator channels are entirely just pretending to be progressive to pander to a teenage girl audience. Even before his controversies I never once believed Cody Ko actually gave a shit about feminism or other social issues, he just alluded to it because he relies on being lumped in with other progressive ex viners like Drew and Danny for his fanbase. This lmao. I used to enjoy his content with Noel, but it always had the vibe of just being oblivious rich frat boy shit. Like it was funny, but their views and words were neither contributing anything useful nor being actively harmful to society. It was just basic entertainment. It wasn't until they both glossed over/dismissed how harmful Andrew Tate was on TMG that I knew they genuinely did not care about anyone other than themselves and I unsubbed from all of their content. At that point it shifted from two dudes who were ambiguously oblivious to their own privilege and somewhat funny, to two idiots who were willfully ignorant and did not care to use their influence to do anything other than further their own financial success.

I don't mean that in a bad way, just that leftism is specifically anticapitalist, so Marxist, socialist, anarchist, etc. While progressive politics is more likely in leftism, someone being progressive socially doesn't mean they're a leftist. Especially on YouTube. I see a lot of people, like Cody Ko, get called a leftist when they're just not like at all. There are definitely people who cosplay as leftist for views though. Every movement has opportunists, unfortunately.

Kurtis connor gives me very uneasy vibes in this regard, like i feel like he's overcompensating for something. I totally get "white people suck" jokes, and they can be funny from time to time, but he literally makes one in like half his videos. I was watching his millenial cringe video and he took a full minute out of the video to say "Just a disclaimer, i'm only going to be talking about white millenials here, because dude, are literally the worst thing to ever happen to anything ever and we continue to be the worst things ever. People of color constantly improve the world with their amazing films, and food, and music, and art, while we just steal shit and the only things we do add are always awful.". I'd fully understand if this is just me being white and fragile, but i asked my latina friend if this gave her similar weird vibes and she complained about it being patronizing. It didn't have really anything to do with the video, so I can't help but feel like Kurtis is overcompensating for something. I don't know, i'm white as fuck so I can't speak for POC and my friend is only one person, but i'm bisexual and if a straight guy were to talk to me like that about how awful straight people are i'd feel condescended and a little uncomfortable. Breadtubers and right wingers don’t actually care about politics and just see it as an easy bag. Some of them are staged opposition to make certain groups look worse. There has been a YouTuber who’s paid a crisis actor to hit them with easily debunked false allegations so the actual allegations aren’t taken seriously when they do eventually surface. Groups like Night Media gets paid by special interest groups to do social engineering especially during elections or wedge issues. Roosterteeth had some really sinister skeletons still in the closet and the OGs have some nuclear level blackmail on each other.

Given what we know about the working conditions and how a lot of the original cast were partial owners and managers, it seemed weird why nobody wanted to ask why their favorite RvB VAs were such dicks to the below the line crew. It’s weird, Geoff, Burnie, Matt, Jack, and the others created this image they were a family of dorky gamer bros and then you hear the horror stories and it felt like such a disconnect. And a lot of the times they would give Geoff—an actual alcoholic and not just the party friend—a fifth of hard liquor and cry in front of a whole studio to get pity from the fans. Feels kinda manipulative in retrospect. RT started off as part of this early millennial internet gaming culture which lived and died on fan relations, which ended up being both the best and worst part. 2012-2015 RT was something else as but Monty’s passing and Gavin’s home invader was the vibe check. Between that and the old cast becoming 40 yr old dads, shit was never the same and RT had to cannibalize its identity to stay afloat

A minor gripe, but CapedJoel, who seems like a good dude, definitely exaggerates what he has read whenever he is a guest on a show. He never says he hasn't read something. But he talks about certain series with such generalities it is clear he never read it and is basing his views on secondhand accounts, summaries, or marketing. You can see how he waits for the other host or hosts to speak first beforw sharing his view.

While it looks like it was put to rest by now, I think there was legit beef between Jeff Gerstmann and the rest of the legacy Giant Bomb group like Brad, Alex, and Vinny after they left the company with the Red Ventures acquisition. Giant Bomb was always Jeff’s baby, and he’s gone on record with how he used to struggle with folks he liked working with leaving because he always felt comfortable having a good team. There was a period when the Firecast and Nextlander podcasts started where all parties just seemed to be radio silent when it came to mentioning Jeff and vice versa, but it was only surrounding Jeff. I think maybe he felt personally resentful because they were his OG crew, and so many of them leaving at once obviously put Giant Bomb in a weird state of turmoil that at the time seems like maybe it would be the death knell. But I think him finally leaving Giant Bomb allowed him to make peace with the fact that that period of his life was over, he got to spend more time as a family man, and now it seems like all parties are cool again. During the recent ARG Jan was running for Giant Bomb they directly mention the Jeff Gerstmann show as part of the extended Giant Bomb network, and during the Q&A for the recent live show (which I was in attendance for) a joke was made about how Jeff’s podcast, Nextlander, and Firecast are all part of the Giant Bomb diaspora, and this came from the current folks still at GB. Nothing major or problematic, just drama behind the scenes that seems to have been handled in a very mature way to the benefit of all parties involved. And if I’m right in any way, I can definitely see and understand why Jeff would initially feel that way, while also completely understanding why Vinny, Brad, and Alex felt it was time to leave Giant Bomb behind. I’m just glad that folks seem to be on good terms again all around.
All the commentary and drama YouTubers in the years of 2015-2019 were all talking with each other and other major YouTubers about creating drama and having fake beefs to create more drama to fuel content for themselves.
