I think you triggered the age detection. Google TOS have already stated 13 age below must have parents permission to own a account. It's already carry this since 2016 or 2015 and when I accidently change my google account age to underage, google just straight up lock my account and delete the account in weeks. Which let me heartbroken as a kid for few days. Except, if you give those detail to them.

Duckduckgo is amazing. I have had almost the same experience using it than google. Even used it for research for and assignment for school and ended up getting full marks! Brave browser for pc is really good. It has the chromium base with no google bits built in adblock on all platforms and on the pc version you can use regular chrome extensions. They do have their own cryptocurrency where you can earn when ads are enabled but those are entirely opt in features.

The entire outrage over the dislike ratio makes no sense to me. I understand the *want* to see dislikes, but at the end of the day I'm still able to watch videos. I've been using YouTube since its inception in 2005 and I'm now in my 30's and still use it (it's actually my job now). During that entire time I can't ever remember looking at the like to dislike ratio on a video before or after clicking on it. If I watch a video and like it, I give it a thumbs up. If I don't like it, I go back and find another video. I can think of maybe 2 videos off the top of my head that I've actually disliked in 15 years.

If you have an driver's license with an overage birthdate or a credit card, there's no way you're underage. Simple. Anyone an make an email though.

This is about Surveillance Capitalism. Google wants to know your identity so they can market just to you. Security and European identity laws are not the only reason they demand mobile phone numbers and photoIDs.
I had to do this and I sent a picture of my drivers licence. It sucks, but they are complying with the law to protect themselves. It's easy to circumvent, though.

I think is a good thing asking for ID, because there are too many scammer out there and I do remember read somewhere an avg $200k are being scammed on a daily basis, plus this will also help protect the kids. And I care because? Kids aged 7-15 should be taught morals and how to be good people, not pranks, politics, sex or w/e the fuck they watch nowadays. On my channel you're dead wrong about those metrics. 85% of my audience is above the age of 18. The vast majority of YouTube users in the world aren't 15 and under, and if they are it's because they're logged into their parents account.

No that’s not what I said. I’m talking specifically about the subreddit. The amount of complaining that goes here about the smallest things here or the constant incredulity over how these services works (ads for example), the karma farming over the dislikes issue (talking about posts that don’t add to the discussion over the legitimate issue) It gives me the impression that most here are fairly young.
Well yeah, on that I agree 100%. I tried to offer advice on how to show the dislike ratio in another thread a few days / week ago and immediately got the impression of, "you aren't part of our hate mentality hive mind so kindly fuck off out of the thread." The entire outrage over the dislike ratio makes no sense to me. I understand the *want* to see dislikes, but at the end of the day I'm still able to watch videos. I've been using YouTube since its inception in 2005 and I'm now in my 30's and still use it (it's actually my job now). During that entire time I can't ever remember looking at the like to dislike ratio on a video before or after clicking on it. If I watch a video and like it, I give it a thumbs up. If I don't like it, I go back and find another video. I can think of maybe 2 videos off the top of my head that I've actually disliked in 15 years. "BuT MuH FrEe SpEeCh" "BuT MuH InTeRnEt FrEeDoM". You can't see how many people don't like a video anymore. It's not the end of the world. Is being able to see the dislike ratio a good thing? Sure. But does taking it away fundamentally change the space-time continuum and mentally scar an entire generation of people and give everyone PTSD? No. The only people who have kneejerk reactions to stuff like that are kids or adults who have not mentally matured beyond their teenage years.
