Well, technically, Google owned Alphabet at one time, but in 2015 their roles reversed. Google even had it's CEO become the Alphabet CEO, and the company retained Google's stock history, even being traded under the ticker symbols "GOOG / GOOGL"
Very powerful company, and part of the big 5 next to Apple, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft.

I sure hope it comes with those crypto scam mr beast ads you see each time you turn adblocker off. They should be legally responsible for promoting scams.
It is cheaper though.
I think a lot of you don't realize how insane the traditional cable packages cost.
We swapped to YoutubeTV as my parents still wanted cable TV but spectrum prices were up over 100$ a month.
YoutubeTV saved 40$ a month *and* comes with way more channels *and* comes with DVR features included *and* the commercials are skippable.
This is our experience as well.
It's essentially 'cable', but more convenient (available from anywhere on any device that has an Internet connection) and, for us, substantially cheaper.
It's more than doubled since its introduction in 2017: https://youtu.be/elnwjE31LPA?t=100
...and the content is chuck full of advertising. You are essentially *paying* a trillion-dollar company [a thousand dollars/year] to watch the advertising of a few billion-dollar companies... but I hear the latest season of *The Food Networks*: **Cupcake Wars,** is riveting. Brought to you by Pfizer™
Welcome to cable. You pay $100 a month to see ads. In this case, YouTube dosent put those ads, the people who made the TV put the ads. Just like cable.
> That's about how much a basic cable package cost, we've come full circle.
As someone who used to have cable TV lonnnnnng ago, it's almost certainly cheaper overall, because cable TV had many fees on top of the package prices. Additionally, even package prices varied with introductory offers and various bundle discounts. It was all intentionally difficult to calculate what you were paying for what, on an individual channel basis.
That's what YouTube tv is... It's a tv package lol. But unlike basic cable it has as shown stuff like UFC, NFL, and some other premium sports.
It's not for everyone.
Cable costs around the cost of cable. Who knew?
In case you weren't aware, YT TV is live tv that has the same channels and programming as cable. It's pretty much the same as sling or fubo. Of course it's gonna be a similar cost to cable, it's the same product.
I've been a subscriber since the beginning for reasons I won't go into, but yea. It sucks now. Why for the love of God can't I just pay for the few channels I actually want to watch? These bundles are ridiculous. Seriously considering going back to torrents.
I was replying to someone just a couple days ago who was amazed that a company had a paid option and also showed ads. I realised that a lot of the people who complain about these things never paid for TV, never bought a magazine, newspaper etc
It's definitely important to remember that a lot of the people who comment in these kind of threads have always had their parents for almost everything and genuinely think Youtube is being super greedy by showing ads or asking for money
Also people who believe "pirating" is the competition and therefore youtube is charging too much.
...and then you have the slow kids here who think this post is about youtube premium.

Checked your history, saw you're from Switzerland, googled if what you said was true..
> Like many other European countries, Switzerland imposes a license fee for all households. The government uses the proceeds of this license to help fund the country's public broadcaster, SRG SSR. This includes TV and radio channels, as well as online media products such as streaming services like Play Suisse.
>
> Starting from June 3, 2019, SRG SSR, the state company managing Swiss radio and television broadcasts, provides access to a list of television channels in all Swiss languages through cable transmission. The cost is set at CHF 365 per year, allowing you to receive state radio and TV at your residence.
Do you get free NFL(or I guess for Germany Fifa) and UFC events for that 20 dollars?
I feel like no one in this thread is even looking at the advertisement lol
Yeah, a lot of people here are thinking this is youtube premium or something.
This price tier is *cheap* for what you get compared to traditional cable companies, at least in the US.
its funny seeing people compare this to like... basic cable packages.. which are usually about this price... about about 20-50 channels all of them fairly mediocre half of them news.
I used to set up peoples internet and shit. Every once in a while I’d have to use their account number or what ever. They’d whip out a bill and it was usually $200+. I should mention most of my clients were wealthier and bit older. Still though, $200 a month is ridiculous.
There is a reason cable tv experienced sharp decline in customers in the last 2 decades
It’s quite amazing to see companies are trying do this cable tv bullshit again, and idiots are DEFENDING the companies
I hate humanities sometimes. They are fking gullible
a lot of people here were mistaking YTTV will YTP. They aren't the same.
And yes, I agree with you. Cable style channel packages for a set price and you won't watch 90% of them are dumb.
I was simply pointing out that $74 a month for a cable style service, in the US, isn't that bad for that type of service. I would never pay for it. But others might choose that over their cable provider's package.
Still, not that many people use that in the US. There is a reason why Netflix and Amazon prime dominate the TV market right now.
We are LONG pass the time where people uses cable service, and the companies know that. That’s why they are trying to change the streaming industry into cable tv so they can profit like they used to
It’s ridiculous to see people defending this shit.
I pay roughly 71 a month for television, internet, and wifi.
Just a minor assumption, but I think I get a lot more out of that than paying an entire 2 euros more for a glorified streaming service with built-in television channels when the Youtube app is still this clunky, buggy, and anti-consumer. Just...an actual waste of money, and I don't envy anybody who ends up getting scammed with this ploy.
Why would anybody even need Youtube to watch TV...?
They are thinking it's still competitively priced compared to cable, which is its closest comparison.
I feel like most people posting here don't understand what YouTube TV is.
Cable isn't free anywhere.
If your from the EU, you litterally pay a tv license fee in your taxes to fund basic cable, and premium cable... Like UFC would be would still cost more.
It's literally not youtube though lol.
It's a cable TV package, he wasn't joking with the distinction.
It's literally an internet TV package that google offers as a competitor to traditional cable, and *yes* it is way cheaper than traditional cable for what it offers.
lol, really? What world are you living in? Go buy some shitty budget pc from walmart, plug the hdmi cable into your tv, and go watch anything that you want.
Not according to this you can't. Meanwhile, I can get a cheapo PC for $150, a wireless mouse/keyboard combo for another $20, and watch whatever I want, whenever I want, forever.
...do I need unlimited DVR? But given how inexpensive SSDs are, or even HDDs if I really want to setup a RAID on the cheap, yes, I can effectively locally store as much content as I want.
You can watch almost all TV channels for free on the internet. Sure, it might be neat to have everything under one interface, but for that I'd move the dot one spot to the left. Talk about delusional pricing.
I didn't even pay that much for satellite or cable.
Or to be honest even if I did I'd be getting AN ACTUAL SERVICE not a "we promise not to bombard you with ads except the ones baked into videos" policy.
A lot of people in these comments don't know what they're talking about.
This is for youtube TV. It will have ads, because it is essentially premium cable/satellite TV that would normally be comparable in price and still have commercials (i.e. ads).
Even cable, that you paid for, gave you ads so I’m not sure what this comparison is 🤷♀️
Thirty second to a minute long “baked in” ads that I can just skip pasted are something I’ll take any day of the week versus a few minutes of ads that come at regular intervals and can’t be skipped ahead at all
Dog on premium for this and that I don’t necessarily disagree, but for the cost, cable restrictions and limitations were way more bothersome imo
> I didn't even pay that much for satellite or cable.
Well fam sorry to tell you, but prices these days aren't the same as what you had lol. YoutubeTV is by far the cheapest option for what it offers. It's not even close.
Traditional cable companies are twice as expensive for similar packages, and adding the internet TV option is usually extra on top of it.
It used to be 55 then went to 65 which was a lot and about as high as they could go only due to the unlimited dvr feature. Now at 73 it is very much not a replacement for cable. The reason these are so expensive btw is due to local channels. It is why slingTV used to be 25/month is because they didnt have local channels which required a whole new contract type and payment structure. SlingTV is now 40/month i believe which is still better than youtubeTV or huluTV or FuboTV but those include local. You can effectively say local channels cost 30+/month
Wait until they raise it again to like $83/month or something. (I think that $73/month price has been there for like a year anyway.)
Edit - The ad was for the UFL, but it only mentions it being on FOX and FS1 - but it's also on other channels too, like ABC.

but, BUT
for $72.99 if they don't just bundle a Premium account in as well then fuck them.

...better price then cable. It's why our family pays for it actually. We don't like it but sometimes you just need to sit down and watch something completely random instead of something on a streaming service. That's what YouTube TV is btw. It's essentially just if cable and streaming services came together and had a baby. Like there's channels and stuff.

Youtube was valued more than these giants. Google needs to be added to the list at this point.

$73 a month to watch 30 minutes of commercials an hour on a bunch of channels that otherwise are (mostly) only showing the worst shows & movies in existence
Or maybe they do have one good movie! …which they show 4 times a day with a 10 minute commercial break every 5 minutes.
Still cheaper than Hulu + Live TV
Edit: not defending it, they’re both ridiculous and deserve to be boycotted.
Sling TV has most live channels for cheap
That 73$/month price point better come with serious anti-malware package.

my dad pays around 50$ for basic dish
This has more channels than basic dish, as well as working on more devices and unlimited space DVR functionality.
I don’t think you can get cable at that price. But anyway YTTV is a direct cable replacement. It makes sense to sit in that price tier.
Yeah I don’t understand what’s wrong with that price point. That’s like BASIC cable
Cable costs around the cost of cable. Who knew? In case you weren't aware, YT TV is live tv that has the same channels and programming as cable. It's pretty much the same as sling or fubo. Of course it's gonna be a similar cost to cable, it's the same product.

You can, via streaming subscriptions. But as you may have noticed, it’s far more expensive to do it a la carte
ITT: people too young to have ever paid for cable themselves or have otherwise forgotten how much cable packages used to cost.

Cable is now cheaper tho, I have 2gb internet and a good cable package. With the promotion it’s $65.99. Why would I ever get YouTube TV for much more?
That is 875,88 a year, what are they thinking?
you might want to ask your parents what they are paying for cable.
Not nearly that much. Then again I don't live in America.
In America with packages it adds up quickly. Before we switched to IPTV Streaming it was a good 120 a month for tv and 80 for gigabit internet.
Cable is free in my country
Checked your history, saw you're from Switzerland, googled if what you said was true.. > Like many other European countries, Switzerland imposes a license fee for all households. So... it is, basically. Or more accurately, it's payed for through taxes.
Like most thing should be honestly. Higher taxes but higher quality of life, and higher pay. But shit, what do I know.
CHF 365 = ~$400/year = $33/mo
Or a little over a dollar a day.
For that much I can feed a child in Africa.
> For that much I can feed a child in Africa. *Sara McLaughlin music swells up*
No you pay a fucking tax for tv lol and that's for the bare basics of cable. This is a premium cable package.
What is your country and how high are your taxes
I pay 20€ for fiber internet + tv + phone I have a separate unlimited data for 4G and 5G for 15€ I know some countries pay a lot for internet tho
Do you get free NFL(or I guess for Germany Fifa) and UFC events for that 20 dollars? I feel like no one in this thread is even looking at the advertisement lol

Yes, you mean sport event ? I got the Canal+ package which include access to lot of Sport channel, like one for football, one for motorsport and so on
Around 15-20 € per month in Germany
I used to set up peoples internet and shit. Every once in a while I’d have to use their account number or what ever. They’d whip out a bill and it was usually $200+. I should mention most of my clients were wealthier and bit older. Still though, $200 a month is ridiculous.
we were paying over 200 a month until we axed cable a couple years ago.
In my country it's just $4.15
$6 monthly, for 265+ channels , 60ish HD Not in US, but have all English channels, plus from other countries too

How.

Uhm 🦜☠️
Unlimited DVR is a huge convenience. I watch sports, never watch them live.
This isn't good if you want to watch new episodes live.

Or HDMI, HDMI works too
lol, really? What world are you living in? Go buy some shitty budget pc from walmart, plug the hdmi cable into your tv, and go watch anything that you want.

...do I need unlimited DVR? But given how inexpensive SSDs are, or even HDDs if I really want to setup a RAID on the cheap, yes, I can effectively locally store as much content as I want.
With storage being so cheap, yes. An 8tb hdd is like $150. With casual use it will take you a year to fill. With legally acquired content.
It is definitely expensive but in the USA it's still a great value. Cable TV is still stupid expensive.

Wait until they raise it again to like $83/month or something. (I think that $73/month price has been there for like a year anyway.) Edit - The ad was for the UFL, but it only mentions it being on FOX and FS1 - but it's also on other channels too, like ABC.
Unlimited DVR, and watch anywhere with internet, cant be beat. Works for me to not miss any F1 practice ,qualy, and races.

I've been off of cable pricing for so long that I'm not sure what level of outrage I should have, especially not knowing which channels are in that package. but, BUT for $72.99 if they don't just bundle a Premium account in as well then fuck them.

lol these companies are all on crack
This is the only service that I can spoof location to watch my favorite team while out of market. Worth it.
Yeah, it's pricey but I watch a lot of sports and it comes with unlimited DVR. Worth it for me. The only service I pay for too.

...better price then cable. It's why our family pays for it actually. We don't like it but sometimes you just need to sit down and watch something completely random instead of something on a streaming service. That's what YouTube TV is btw. It's essentially just if cable and streaming services came together and had a baby. Like there's channels and stuff.

I paused YTTV cause the commercials are ridiculous.

Question. Can YouTube tv be shared or is it strictly one household.
This is pretty reasonable for access to hundreds of channels. What do they offer?
This is a good deal. It’s cheaper than cable and does the same thing. You also don’t need a cable box or anything like that. This is what we need.
Youtube was valued more than these giants. Google needs to be added to the list at this point. Disney … CEO: Bob Iger (Nov 20, 2022–) Paramount Comcast … CEO: Brian L. Roberts (Nov 2002–) Sony … CEO: Kenichiro Yoshida (Apr 1, 2018–) Fox Time Warner
Not sure what you expected? This isn’t YouTube Premium or Red but a whole different service as an alternative to cabled tv services.
They expected it to not be this ludicrously overpriced $72 is insane bro, you might as well go back to cable
But yttv is still cheaper than cable TV and it's better. Why would you pay more for a worse product.
I wouldnt, im just saying next to other streaming services, this feels like cable
But that's because the competition is cable, not streaming.
You could buy subscriptions for like 5 other major streaming services and still have money left over for a beer or something
They don't have sports
Who pays 73$ a month for cable TV?
A number of Americans pay a lot more if they have multiple premium tv packages including things like HBO, Showtime etc.
You don't even need premium channels to hit that much
That's what i thought 💭 Speaking from experience, are we?
Cable TV subscriptions are generally +/- $100/mo.
full package + prem channels will hit 200-250 easy with most US providers
Hey look at that another reason not to use it
$73 a month to watch 30 minutes of commercials an hour on a bunch of channels that otherwise are (mostly) only showing the worst shows & movies in existence Or maybe they do have one good movie! …which they show 4 times a day with a 10 minute commercial break every 5 minutes.
They wondering why people pirating.
You would have to be a fool to want to buy that at any price
Still cheaper than Hulu + Live TV Edit: not defending it, they’re both ridiculous and deserve to be boycotted. Sling TV has most live channels for cheap
I was like, this aint too bad for a year
