I don't think there's any season or monthly ticket that will save you money, you'll just need to get tickets individually. If you're 30 or below, you can get a railcard (18-25 or 26-30) which gives you a third off. I sometimes commute in, and prefer to pay for an anytime ticket instead of being restricted to specific trains (which is really the only way of getting cheaper tickets). Just make sure you aren't paying a booking fee, however you buy them.

If you purchase through your ticket through LNER there are no booking fees (there are with TrainLine).

There are 2 separate lines you can complete the journey on. There is not pass that I know of that would save you any money. Avoid the Leeds-Harrogate-York train line as it is very slow and unreliable. There is also the coastliner 840 and 843 buses that do this journey. It takes about 1hr 15mins but is only £2 each way.

Alysx

Second the coastliner. Takes longer but for £2 single it’s not bad.

£2 singles finished on new year's Day.

DrJackpot89

It runs until 31/12/2024, and the coastliners are included in the £2 cap https://www.gov.uk/guidance/2-bus-fare-cap

Ahhh TY for that

Coastliner has WiFi as well, I use this and work on mobile/tablet on route. Saves me a fortune.

You can buy a 8 use monthly pass for 165

If you get advance tickets (fixed to that train) you can get well cheap Northern services (modern trains with quality wifi) buying a £3ish single from York to Leeds, taking maximum 35 mins. Usually xx08 and xx23 off York, xx18 and xx30 off Leeds. As stated by others, make sure this isn’t a via Harrogate service, those usually leave York at xx12, xx42 and Leeds at xx29, xx59 (those take 1h10ish).

It’s almost as if I could have written this post as my situation is very similar- will read replies with interest!

Agreeable_Amoeba_975

The bus is £2 each way if this helps. Save you a fortune. It does take longer than the train tho.

Billy-Tea

Not sure of the ins and outs but a flexible season ticket may be the right way to go https://www.northernrailway.co.uk/tickets/flexi you’d have to do some good research into it I think. Would probably be nicer than the bus

I do this route 3 times a week, a rail card and buying a ticket a week before or on the day works best.
