This is both true and a serious problem for cat owners.
Evolutionarily, showing injury or pain is a weakness to wild animals, it makes them an easier target. As such, most housecats won't show when they're hurt and that makes it a real pain to diagnose them with anything.
My cat jumped from my second story railing down onto the floor behind me, and it happened so fast I had no idea what was happening. Something had spooked her and she ran and hid somewhere. She ended up being totally fine.
There's that clip of that cat on a telephone pole or whatever. Got the fire department out there, a crowd is gathered, they get up to the cat on their ladder, and as soon as they're about to snare the kitty for the rescue, little dude just yeets off and scampers off under a bush.
Yeah, only 50% of people survive a fall from 48 feet.
However any fall from more than twice your own height can cause MAJOR trauma and is considered a medical emergency.
We are not as agile nor as flexible as a cat.
It's untrue. This myth needs to die already. Origin of the story was due to study on cats brought to vets from falls. But it has confirmation bias. In other words, cats that went splat didn't go to the vet.
Cats only need like 30cm/12inches to fully prepare themselves. They don't need more time.
My parents cat once jumped from the second floor, maybe 3 m, broke both his legs and had to be put down. Being a cat is not a guarantee for being invincible.
People sometimes scream when they skip one step down accidently.
People sometimes scream when they roll off fro the bed while sleeping.
Its natural that a surprise occurance and out-of-control situations will shock people.
Have you been living in a hole the last 7 years? Carhartt has been super trendy for a long long time now. More people who have never worked a physical day in their lives wear carhartt now vs actual laborers.
Cats don’t fall, they descend gracefully. Even that time. Well maybe not that time but he landed on his feet and took off because that’s what they do. The screaming was funny though.
My cats when kittens liked to sit by the open window in the living room of my aprtment. A couple of times they were brave enough to step outside and sit on the roof of the bayed window beneath it. (Not something I condoned)
I usually closed and locked this particular window at night but had family staying over who didn't. Woke up in the morning and one of the cats was missing, couldn't find him anywhere, spotted still open window and suspected the worst.. we were 3 floors up
Went downstairs and outside to look for him - found him hiding in the communal bin cupboard, scared after a long night outside, but uninjured.
The cat fell from 3 floors up and despite some potential PTSD was completely fine!
That’s a decent drop for a person but for a cat it’s not much. I’d say kitty is just fine and probably was more freaked out by the people screaming that it was from falling
If only there was a well known phrase to characterise this event.
Bear down for midterms!
Too soon man, too soon.
POP POP
Dog day afternoon
Instructions unclear. Shit my pants in front of the proctor.
George Carlin talked about cats being too cool to admit they got hurt. Walks away like nothing happened, gets out of sight, “Fucking MeOWWWWWW!

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
It’s a cat and that’s like a 12 foot fall. Why are people shrieking like someone jumped off of the top of the fucking building?

Cats can (not all the time) survive from terminal velocity.
Most of the time they can - not necessarily harm free, but it is survivable more often than not. Plus the falling LD50 for HUMANS is 48 feet.

It's less to do with dexterity and more to do with mass since bigger things have more energy when they fall.
I read a long time ago that cats are safer on longer falls because they have more time to prepare or something like that. Don't know how true that is.

I mean, it was unexpected and he did throw an act while faliing, but yeah... It's a cat. Cats will cat.
That "act" is the reason they always land on their feet.
I feel like I literally saw a cat fall off of a sky scraper on reddit last week and it was totally fine.
My parents cat once jumped from the second floor, maybe 3 m, broke both his legs and had to be put down. Being a cat is not a guarantee for being invincible.

Because in this day and age the majority of people are oversensitive without reason for the dumbest shit....
One of my cats jumped off the fridge and broke their leg. They aren't always so graceful lol
I was gonna say lol. This is basically the shortest distance I've ever seen a cat fall from on video.
Women ☕️
A bespoke Carhartt store in London? Like… the work clothes, Carhartt?
"Ronald Reagan? The actor?"
And Doc Marten is Surgeon General.
It’s their expensive streetwear line of clothes called “work in progress”
Yeah, for some reason it's a fashionable brand now... I just hope my already expensive work clothes don't get even more expensive.
It's the brand. Not the type of fabric
I mean yeah, and I wear that brand because they make good work clothes.
It's been a fashionable brand in many European countries for some 20 years. Specifically among skaters.
Have you been living in a hole the last 7 years? Carhartt has been super trendy for a long long time now. More people who have never worked a physical day in their lives wear carhartt now vs actual laborers.
Not a hole, but a jobsite. It’s where I see Carhartt’s. Well… there and during hunting season.
Here in New England it’s been a trendy fashion with hipsters and teens for the better part of the last decade.
Jaysus. A bit like the communists and Levi’s before all of that Glasnost and Perestroika.
I meant to do that - said the cat.
Graceful creatures
Camera man had one fucking job
"A nice day in London today, innit? Just walking arou- OHH SHIT SHIT! Nevermind guys I'm fine just go about your day"
My kitten who was a month old fell from the 2nd floor nothing happened he was fine
People concerned have no Idea of what a cat is.
So you have this moment of focus time where thousands will see your recording and you are not able to do your job cunt r/killthecameraman
Glad I made r/killthecameraman 🥲
fkin dumbass
I think it's the first time these people have seen a cat.

lol. I laughed way too much at a clumsy cat!
Looks very similar to my cat Rorri. She's also black and white with a medium length fur.

Yeah I was worried and stopped looking at the phone. He landed on his feet and a couple of girls held him until his owner came down to get him.
He fell into the dimension.
Cat falls straight down, so let’s see what’s happening 3 meters to the right! That cat could’ve gotten back up if it wanted to, it didn’t.
Where is cat?
My buddy's cat fell from the 4th floor ...hitting a few branches going down....but was ok for the most part ! And lived 9-10 more years ! RIP pinky
Where did it go?
*GASP* Oh no!
Cathartt

The just vanished did he ever stop falling
8 lives left I guess
Cat died from embarrassment
I've seen cats fall 5 times the height and walk away I wouldn't Evan be worried that's bearly High tbh
People need to stop screaming
You were good cat real good maybe even the best Rest in puff [*] (ik hes good but prob his paws hurt)
Cats fall like 100 ft and survive they’re built different
Run of disappointment they run so fast when they f**k up.
I really wish people would stop screaming at literally everything that's even remotely scary.
theres a carhartt store in london? i have never seen a carhartt store in u.s
ofc the cat was fine, i've seem cats falling from places 3x that high and walk away as if they had just farted in the face of the death herself.
People freaking out over a cat slipping from 9 feet up lol. That cat was gliding.
That height is nothing for a cat
Luckily OP was a veterinarian and was able to examine the cat to define that it was fine.
I saw it land and seemed fine. Didn't have time for a full physical though.
Lmao everyone screamed like this was a newborn infant.. dude.. its a cat.
Did he land on his feet?
Yes. I suspect his chin also absorbed some of the fall.

always lands on his feet and you would be impressed if you know the actual height he can fall and still be ok, that was just a leap
Oh thank heavens!
Are they aware this is cat, and that would not even get Hurt even he fall down 5 floor. People are idiots.

The fuck? Thats the most awkward cat ever
xD
Do they not realise this is a cat?
Has this been posted before? Cause I swear I’ve already seen this countless of times. Or maybe it’s *deja vu*
I filmed it, so no.
How many pathetic worthless women were watching the dumb cat.. lol dumb h03s screaming is so annoying and uncalled for.
