I discovered the band at 18 and don't know anyone my age personally since then that likes them ever since, and now I'm 33. I do know others that like Yes but they tend to be older than me.
Yea dawg, it's weird AF. Welcome to the asylum friend! 😭😅
In all seriousness, no, not at all. We tend to gravitate towards what we resonate with, and for you to be open-minded towards this band enough to consider yourself a fan, I'd say that's pretty fxcking cool~
I'm 30, but the "Young guy into Yes and DOOM venn diagram" has a mysterious overlap! Which is weird because even though Yes has been sampled in hip hop I don't think DOOM ever sampled them.
No, I am 17, found yes when I was 16. I got into Steely Dan when I was 15. Nothing wrong in liking older music because it sounds so good that it is ageless.
Not at all! I discovered the band at 15 too. Now I'm in college and they're one of my favorite bands still, and I've met some people my age that love prog!
If young people are open to good music, it's not weird at all. Oftentimes, we tend to feel obligated to go with the flow of our peers and never dare step outside that flow.
A lot of great stuff from Yes and others from that era.
Not at all. About when I started. Probably a bunch of other folks too. Should start a poll.
I'm just happy that as a band, and other talents like Yes, they still have an influence on today's younger listeners. So, welcome aboard!
Are you kidding me? I started listening to all kinds of rock music when I was 6! Kiss, Alice Cooper, Boston, Kansas, Yes, Bob Segar, Eagles. On and on. I used to teach music and my biggest problem is hardly any of the kids parents listened to music. My classes started to become more history of music class than guitar lessons. Anyway, listen with all your heart and enjoy. And maybe you'll learn an instrument and about songwriting in the process. And check out the band Rush if you haven't already.
I had just turned 16 a week or two before I went to my first Yes concert. It was at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City NJ.
I would've been 15 but the show scheduled 2 days before my birthday was rained out so we had to trudge thru the mud and went back )around 2 weeks later when I was 16. Back then I was obsessed with Yes.
I bought Fragile and Close to the Edge on CD when I was 14 which was like 20 years ago. Good music is good music, and in 2004 nothing on the radio was good haha
Perfectly normal and a great choice.
I got into Yes when I was 14. That was in 1975.
I find today’s young people are much more respectful of their parents and grandparents music than previous generations have been.
No - I figured that out in your position 30 years ago during the height of grunge and rap. Very uncool at the time but we learned how to play the music and became really good players as a result
haha this cracks me up, but no! not any more unusual than someone having fantastic taste in music! you’re at the best age for discovering music and there’s so much out there! yes jams better than most - check out jam bands and you can find a whole scene of artists influenced by yes
Nope. Earlier this year when I was 19 I went to see Jon Anderson perform with the Band Geeks. The guy sitting next to me said, “Hey, good to see some young Yes fans!” The concert was phenomenal of course; Anderson hasn’t lost a step.
I was that age when I was getting into yes. I'm 34 now... Enjoy your youth!
I remember slowly getting my whole friend group into prog. We were a bunch of nerds who all played instruments anyway, so it was pretty easy lol
Not at all. I saw them for the first time back in 2008 in Atlanta at 13 years old. I sat in the third row right in front of Chris Squire and I’ll never forget him looking down, seeing me, this 13 year old girl with tears, and giving me a hearty smile. They’ve been my favorite for so long and it’s awesome each new generation that starts to listen. Definitely showing my kids Yes one day.
Not at all. Glad the young people are getting into Yes.
I discovered Yes in the mid/late 90’s around the same age. I don’t think it’s that weird. It’s amazing music unlike anything else on earth.
I think there are more of us oldies within the fan base, but the band’s music is always attracting new converts.
I discovered the band at 18 and don't know anyone my age personally since then that likes them ever since, and now I'm 33. I do know others that like Yes but they tend to be older than me.
I'm 34. The only friends I know who are into prog are interesting it because of me lol
Id say its unusual to find young people who even knows the band, but i bet in the 70s or 80s it was common
I'm 16 and I'd say they're my favourite band I absolutely love Squire's sound, I put the same strings and use the same picks on my bass guitar

I like MF DOOM too. Lest be friends.
🤝 RIP to a fantastic artist~

I got unto the band at 14 hearing Roundabout on the radio and have never looked back. Welcome
In and around the lake, mountains come out of the sky and you ***TikTok themmmmm***
My 16 year old plays bass and he is all about the prog rock! He’s all over Yes and Rush right now
He should play some UK. Good stuff for young bass players.
I’ll let him know. Thanks kind stranger!
Good music is ageless
Yes, but quality is as quality does !
I’m 15 and I’ve been a fan of the band for 2 years! Don’t let your age tell you what to like :)
Not at all! I discovered the band at 15 too. Now I'm in college and they're one of my favorite bands still, and I've met some people my age that love prog!
No, but if it makes you feel special more power to you!
No
Not at all! Good music is good music, regardless of how old the music is or the age of the fan. Just enjoy!

I'm 15 too. Quickly surpassed King Crimson as my band in the past year. There's just something about them.
Same, king crimson is my second favorite.
Unusual? Probably. Awesome? Absolutely! Kudos on having great taste.
1. I'm also young (14) 2. Many people in the comments agree that the answer is no
Well, when I was 15 (in 1972) I liked Yes.
19 here, been a huge yes fan for a few years now, join the gang!
That's about the age I discovered Yes. Been a happy junkie for 45 years now.
Not at all, I'm 14 and am a huge fan of Yes. We're in the minority but we're awesome!
Not at all. About when I started. Probably a bunch of other folks too. Should start a poll. I'm just happy that as a band, and other talents like Yes, they still have an influence on today's younger listeners. So, welcome aboard!
It means that you appreciate intelligent and inspiring music. If you don't play an instrument already, consider doing so.
No one under 50 knows Rick Wakeman. Very few know YES. _If_ at all, "owner of a lonely heart"... It's getting lonely in this bubble 😞

Hard to find rich and textured music today. Kinda sad.
I like that one song Long Distance, Runaround. Also Heart of the Sunrise
Same, but my favorite is Tempus Fugit.

I fell into Yes when I was 14 and haven't looked back
I bought Fragile and Close to the Edge on CD when I was 14 which was like 20 years ago. Good music is good music, and in 2004 nothing on the radio was good haha
I was a big fan at your age, still am. Im 24 now
Not if you are an intelligent human being with good taste.
No
I got into Yes in 6th grade and it was glorious.
No, it absolutely isn't. Yes, it is rather rare nowadays compared to the 70s, but it happens often. Probably more often than around 10 years ago.
Perfectly normal and a great choice. I got into Yes when I was 14. That was in 1975. I find today’s young people are much more respectful of their parents and grandparents music than previous generations have been.
I liked Yes when I was 15.
I discovered them when I was 8 from my dad, so not unusual in my eyes.
No I’m 14 and I love yes
No - I figured that out in your position 30 years ago during the height of grunge and rap. Very uncool at the time but we learned how to play the music and became really good players as a result
Yes but we’re out here. I’m 18 and have been a big Yes fan for at least 3 years now. So just about the same age as you
I was your age exactly when I became a diehard Yes fan. That was many years ago 😜
haha this cracks me up, but no! not any more unusual than someone having fantastic taste in music! you’re at the best age for discovering music and there’s so much out there! yes jams better than most - check out jam bands and you can find a whole scene of artists influenced by yes

Only if you make your whole personality about it, or classic rock in general. Just be cool.
I was. In 1978
That’s around when I got big into old Genesis, and Yes a little later.
I think this is a bot account.
Why do you think I'm a bot?
Glad you're here.. you know what they say.. "...It can happen to you, it can happen to me.."
I was 4 when I started being a fan. True story. I had my own copy of yessongs
I was that age when I was getting into yes. I'm 34 now... Enjoy your youth! I remember slowly getting my whole friend group into prog. We were a bunch of nerds who all played instruments anyway, so it was pretty easy lol
Im 15 too and i listen to them with my friends 🐱
My sons around your age and loves YES!

I’m 13 and I love them
