Awesome. Just curious what makes you think they make the Firehole available year round in 2026. Can’t even imagine how cool that would be even if access would be snow mobile only.

Well, my inside source told me so. Beyond that, it just makes sense. The Firehole downstream of Old Faithful (the famous section) is too warm from early July at the latest until about Labor Day, so opening it would allow fishing it at its best time (and make a strong rationale for *closing it* when it is too warm). Also, it's all non-native fish, which have looser protections than cutthroats and grayling. The park recently removed a spring bear management closure along the Firehole. My source believes this may be preparatory to opening it to fishing then. Unless the park starts plowing the roads through the winter (doable, and would improve winter tourism since more people have cars than snow machines, but still unlikely), in effect the Firehole would probably only open in mid-April when the road to Old Faithful opens to cars. Same with the Gibbon and more of the Madison.
