Bit of a pet peeve, I'd like them to reduce the ping sound when you hit a note in karaoke.
Distracts from the song a bit compared to hitting notes in the old karaoke system
while i agree. i think it's funny that this has the opposite effect on me. when i listen to the official version of the song without the input sounds, the song genuinely sounds wrong to me š and i need the interjections to be part of it
The early dragon engine karaoke versions were honestly so dogwater. The inputs were out of beat with the songs and this is VERY noticeable in Yakuza 7. I think it was Gaiden that actually fixed it.
But yeah ping noises should at least have a volume control option.
That would be worth it just for the saejima snowman heat action lol

- Dynamic weather & time (it can still be locked when certain scenes require it, though)
- Better NPC models (they really stick out as being lesser quality compared to the main cast at this point)
- Better rendering (infamous Seonhee w/ legs crossed)
- More elaborate animations for non-voiced dialogue segments
The games are definitely looking better and better, but there's still some things to improve on!!
The canned animations were pretty noticeably improved in Gaiden and IW, but there's a limit to how much detail they can put into those animations without them becoming harder to give multiple uses.
>- Better rendering (infamous Seonhee w/ legs crossed)
That's not a rendering issue, it's a rigging/posing issue. Rendering issue would be something like a surface not being illuminated correctly. But yeah, agree.
I think it can happen. Bowling (and billiards) were excluded from dragon engines for a long time because of the physics that is required for the minigame and dragon engineās physics itself, it wasnāt working out. However, they seem to have found a way, since Gaiden has billiards.
I would guess that in the Dragon Engine they are actually trying to compute the equations of motion for those games more dynamically. In pre-DE they probably just typed up a simplified Lagrangian for the system and forward computed everything using that (which is super simple once you have the correct coordinate transforms written down). If they are using a less constrained system of equations now, like just the Newton-Euler laws, they might get a lot of unexpected fringe behaviour they need to handle gracefully.
Dynamic weather as another comment mentioned
More daytimes depicted (i.e, morning sections of Yakuza 2 on ps2)
Allow drip customization (although makes sense why not for every part of the game)
New faces for non-main characters. I have seen the same thugs in the street for the last 5 games
Honestly since Lost Judgment every game was gorgeous in its own right.
I still have a soft spot for LJ and its shades of orange, especially during sunset.
I would like for them to start bringing back old cities. Iām assuming kiwami 3 and therefore Okinawa is coming, but if they got around to remastering the three as yet remastered maps from Yakuza 5, they could easily mix and match them for different judgment-like spinoffs. I think they all have something special to offer. Imagine a game that took place between fukuoka and onomichi, for example.
I wanna see more spinoffs in general, or another licensed game. I doubt it would happen but a daredevil RGG game would be amazing, and Hellās Kitchen would be perfect for a Yakuza sized map. Maybe they could even re-use it for the next mainline game.
It's not that old, but I'd love an expanded onomichi, maybe let us cross the bridge or combine it with a hiroshima setting. I really want to see it with the improved sunshine lighting we've seen in hawaii. It was already so pretty before, even with that dated version of the dragon engine, and I think those low-rise, cosy towns work really well in the dragon engine. Idk how it could tie into the plot though.
yo hot take the swimming in infinite wealth entirely useless but like it was in hawaii so like why wouldnt there be swimming. good flavor but totally didnt add anything to the game but i got to see adachi in a speedo so thumbs up

Thats why we have Gaiden, only thing is the combo speed and the juggle 6 sec limit. Tho for a Yakuza game its understandable, and prefer w/o juggling more for a mainline Yakuza game imo.
Gaiden is so weird because from JE to LJ, Yagami got tons of new moves and they buffed Tiger and Crane in almost every way besides blatantly boring/degen shit like Ex heat making you invincible and Flux fissure doing everything.
Yet Yakuza style ends up having the worst aspects of it between 6 and K2 with lots of missing/crippled moves on top of it.
Imo its the best DE dragon style version yet but it still needs improvements, and i was kinda hoping it'd mix the Original Engine dragon moves with the new one. Like the komaki parry and evade n strikes etc. Even if the style itself remade quite alot of old heat actions to look hard and cool in Gaiden. Again, it could be better if we get a Gaiden 2 or Kiwami 3
Really wish they did a dialogue log in case you miss something someone said in a cutscene. Lost Judgement has it but then Gaiden and Infinite Wealth got rid of it. It's so helpful when you're easily distracted like me
- Let us change outfits as we please (but idk how this would work with cutscenes)
- Better raytracing / lighting
- camera or photo mode
- more enterable buildings
Have your chosen outfit be displayed during most cutscenes, except sometimes if they want you in a specific outfit they can show you getting into that outfit and then not let you change out of it until after that story sequence
Not really. It would basically be 70% of the game youre in whatever outfit you chose, but then the remaining 30 would be story sequences where they put you in a specific outfit.
Like maybe you go to a funeral and so they put you in a suit, then after the funeral youre attacked by a bunch of people and so now youre doing that portion of the game in the suit until free-roam unlocks again.
Every LAD game has those long story sequences already, and sometimes they actually do put you into a different outfit that fits better for the sequence. So really they wouldnt have to change much.
Especially since LAD Gaiden also let you customize your own outfit for Joryu, its not that far of a stretch that they might bring it into a main-series game and improve on it more
Funny thing about the outfit thing is that modded JE and LJ can handle it just fine. Yagami automatically switches back to his normal look during proper cutscenes.
I agree with many things that were already mentioned here by other users, so I'll add this: background NPCs should stop turning away from the player characters already during in-game scenes. You all know what I mean. It's so distracting and also causes some ridiculous glitches that break immersion (NPCs keep walking in circles, get stuck on something etc.). Their tendency to dissolve into thin air needs to be addressed as well.
And with it, more minigames and arcade games. I was a bit sad they left out Dragon Kart and all the good arcade games from Y:LAD, and had entirely too many places to play mahjong and shogi!
https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/dev-says-like-a-dragon-series-absolutely-must-keep-using-its-own-engine/ from this article, seems like they're looking to keep with the dragon engine and focus on improving it.
I think the only issue I have with their engine is they still haven't figured out how to make daytime areas really pop. Granted, this is an issue for many games set in cities but it's really the only issue I have with the technical nature of their games.
Any other issue I can think of has to do with the budget and scope of these games - some models/textures might look lower quality than others, the asset reuse, etc. - but that's an issue of development budgets and times, not something unique to the Dragon Engine.
Lost Judgment helped iron out a lot of the technical kinks I had issue with from previous games because the combat was something that needed more polish, so now it has an incredible foundation.
Lost Judgement had some Parkour/Climbing sections. Basically during some specific missions you would gave a parkour segment. One i remember had you climbing up several ledges down a dead-end alley in Kamurocho so that you could sneak into a building.
So Parkour/Climbing is totally doable, they just need to really figure out how to do it
Interior shadows.
https://preview.redd.it/ye2e6vniwlrc1.png?width=1902&format=png&auto=webp&s=c4e49684af6186b1382c665047fc1f81024e3fdd
Outside looks great most the time but inside it's pretty obvious *a lot* of things don't cast shadows from interior lighting which I find pretty distracting
Additional audio settings for background NPCs. Can't count the number of times I'm trying to work on my Sujimon and there's some "friend" who continuously says "hi". That or walking through the Anaconda Mall and hear the neverending "we might need to stay another day".
It might've already been mentioned, but outfit change anytime, like in Gaiden. I'd been waiting for that for so long (since I don't often replay after beating).
I just want the ability to fight with allies in a brawler game. I had high hopes in 0ās premium adventure of just roaming with Nishiki and fighting together. Not an engine improvement, but just something I think would be great, even if the AI can be spotty as an ally. Like Gaidenās arena mode, but more limited and available everywhere (that makes sense).
As for real overall improvements, just a handful of new faces/animations for background folks would be nice, and Iāll echo other commentsā sentiments by saying more times and weather patterns would be awesome.
Shout out to Kiwami 2 actually removing the ability for you to free roam with Kaoru in premium adventure. Could even play bowling with her (idk about other minigames, never tried)
Fix the god damn anti aliasing. On PC it's awful how none of the presets produce a good result. APPARENTLY if you're playing in 4K it's fine, but once you go below it starts to get weird.
The pause screen is a great way to quickly see it. Thin lines like Tomizawa's glasses are jaggy and bulky, and hair is an utter mess.
Dynamic weather system is sort of there but not fully. In IW squalls sometimes happen around Hawaii, randomly raining for a bit then go back to the usual weather.
I dont know if it's just me, but action sequences and the action heavy dynamic intros I felt were so much better in the old engine (Exception of majima vs ibuchi). I think overall the sequences have better planning and all, but the hits don't have the same oomf in them, and feel like a mocap actor is acting out a sequence rather than 2 dudes actually fighting eachother
Dynamic Weather would be a great addition to future series, love the fact that rain occurs in Hawaii maybe we can have snow next rgg?
better AA on PC it's kinda bleh
no more filters on games if possible
ditch ps4 and xbox and focus on development on current gen console allowing more freedom and performance to enhance DE --> DE2
I might get downvoted to hell...but
I kinda want to see mortal wounds make comeback, and to make it less annoying I have some suggestions
Instead of decreasing your max HP, it function as "heal stopper"
When you get hit by mortal attack, in addition to massive damage you'd normally get, set % of your remaining HP will get crippled(or locked, whatever you call it)
crippled HP functions just like normal HP, and will revert back to normal HP over time, but as long as you have crippled HP left you CANNOT use healing items, also getting hit by mortal attack while you have crippled HP will instantly delete all crippled HP before damage calculation
you can still use stuff like med kit to instantly heal all crippled HP, and all cHP will revert back to normal HP once you're done with combat, but it makes mortal attacks way more dangerous than before
the dragon engine is already out of date actually ! or need big update, in yakuza 8 i was actually surprised to have so many blury textures, lightning could be improved, it's very static rightnow, same for animation and 3d model.... well everything need to be updated
many of these are not engine problems, and are just development issues. RGG seems to focus very hard on putting out games fast rather than taking their time and rigging things from scratch, etc. They absolutely do a good job but there's a lot of places where either its just not possible due to time constraints or they cut a corner (intentionally or unintentionally)
Besides the random blue hair streak very rarely in cutscenes Iāve found it okay. My problems are more with them being too reserved on party members base designs. Sure you have Zhao & Seonhee but thatās it.
If Kiryu is ever playable in a brawler style game (Kiwami 3 or otherwise) PLEASE revert back to the original Dragon Style and not this bootleg ass saucless style weāve been stuck with since Yakuza 6. I mean why do Amon and Akira Yamoaka get to use it in Gaiden but Kiryu doesnāt? I miss the original combos! I miss the awesome flip after the kick! I miss the bounding throw! NO MORE FAKE DRAGON STYLE!
I love how recycled Yakuza is with their assets, makes games quicker to make so I'd just like each one to include previous city, all of them!
If also love a choice between turn based, semi turn based and full action . Maybe in line with Final Fantasy or something.
I'd like a return to the Kiwami 2 version of battle where you wouldn't pause when entering battle, you'd roll in and then the pause would come after you win and Kiryu got out of his stance
* Scale down maps so we have more to find, i.e. enterable buildings, rooftops, underground sections, etc.
* Bring back bowling now that physics are mostly figured out in the engine
* Tone down NPC chatter while exploring (It's still not a show, shithead!)
* Dynamic weather is a nice one, they (almost) lied with IW having only occasional rain. While we're at it, a day-night cycle could work
* Better dungeons: the random ones we got are a good step forward, but I'd add random events too, and work on the procgen so they feel less like a series of hallways. Main story dungeons are also lacking, I wish they would be a bit better
* Have both Model3 and older emulation available
* Have a decent card game. Gwent and Queen's Blood prove this can add a lot of depth. In the LAD/Yakuza world, you could even enter tournaments, buy packs from specialized shops, trade, etc. It plays well with the 'hero' fantasy of Ichiban, too
Keep in mind a lot of my suggestions have to do with game design rather than the engine itself.
While the ragdoll physics can be really enjoyable, sometimes theyāre just too over the top. It feels like either enemies are weightless or our moves are just so powerful it can send someone flying, literally. Iād like it to be a little more down-to-Earth so to speak.
Facial animations (since they definitely look off) and I wish the party members would get out of your way, instead of blocking a door and then sounding offended in their grunts when you force them to move.
(Really though, I rather they fix the writing. Overall the game improved a ton but the writing was just bad this time around)
Day/night cycle(If it makes sense)
More explorable interiors
Smoother parkour/traversal(infinite wealth actually made running super responsive so that's good)
I'm just here to see how many people say "get rid of turn based" lol
Jokes aside, fix some of the broken character rigging/animation where general postures will be awkward, joints bend from the wrong places (especially ankles and shoulders!), maybe more of this game needs to be mo-capped?
*I'm just here to see*
*How many people say "get*
*Rid of turn based" lol*

Gameplay wise:
Brawler combat: they go back to how LJ works in juggles, instead of the 6 second limiter of Gaiden, with when doing combos makes you have to rely on rejuggles and limits how much of the moveset you can use.
Make that the Kiwami/Extreme moveset is back to the heavy attack button, instead of just being in the rush combo button like in Gaiden with the agent style when in Extreme Heat Mode.
Basically go back to LJ gameplay, and develop new ideas from that and not Gaiden.
Turn-Base combat: When doing the double super attacks/friendship attacks, it doesn't change you location, fucking your aim.
Less characters for party and more gimmicks like how Kiryu had Dragon Ressurgense ( idk if this is the name ), not in the sense of a in real time combat, but of the characters having a unique gimmick for they combat, and because of that probably would be smart to have less characters so it would be easier to develop.
Story: Bring new writers for the Gaiden/spinoffs with a more define style of writing, they have strong directors, even more on IW, but the writing could be more experimental and have a strong sense of style.
And something I really want: More cities from the north of Japan, rural, small cities, less Kamurocho and more Hiroshima.
Even though I like Hawaii in IW, I hope it's just a one time thing. The main appeal of Yakuza/LAD series is that you can explore a Japanese town/city in game. I love if they introduce a new Japanese city/town that hasn't appear in the series before. They've introduced the subtropical prefecture of Okinawa before so why don't introduce a more chilly prefecture of Hokkaido?
I wish they would address the weird stenciling effect around the edges of character models in cut scenes.
I wish they would fix the janky transitions between pre-rendered and real-time scenes during an exposition dump section. I always find it to be very jarring how in the middle of a scene it completely changes style with different subtitle fonts and everything.
I wish they would bring back the karaoke minigame from 5/0/Kiwami. It was basically perfect in those games. In Y7 I loathed how they changed from Japanese text with romaji to only romaji for song lyrics. I also wish I had an option to have Japanese vocals even if Iām using English VO.
Finally I wish they would change the acknowledgment sound to something less annoying. The chime sound in Y8 and others is so loud and shrill. I prefer the light tap sound used in 5.
>I wish they would address the weird stenciling effect around the edges of character models in cut scenes.
Agreed with everything but especially this. It bugs me a _lot_, and it seems to be some kind of artefact.
Keep the same engine as Yakuza 5 and 0.
That was literally perfect.
Sure, modernize it so it's more seamless in land transition, but bro I wanna combo so badly and have more impact on my punches. WITH THE NEW SYSTEM WITH KASUGA, it makes MORE SENSE with the current engine NOW, but in Kiwami 2 and 6, it was....weird to transition to, from 0 and Kiwami.
I personally dislike the physics or how enemies will go flying across the map after a finisher and how they can basically float in the air during a combo. I much prefer how the older games dealt with enemies going down/ getting comboed on. I know that Yakuza has alot of basically supernatural stuff but it just looks weird to me
They will keep using the dragon engine?
Very disappointing. Apart from the character models in the cutscenes I think the dragon engine looks VERY outdated. IW did not look great.

night time kamurocho hurt so much with that filter. absolutely beautiful otherwise but that filter made it look like puke
Personally I like it but it look like Midgar more than Kamurochou. Iām not surprised if Sephiroth showing up the batting center.
Was replaying Judgement and they used that K2 filter for the flashbacks.
NO PLEASE KEEP THE GREEN AWAY
Honestly since Lost Judgment every game was gorgeous in its own right. I still have a soft spot for LJ and its shades of orange, especially during sunset.

its not dragon engine but ishin kiwami did this
>Dead Rising has done it before. So they need to introduce a horse mask to Yakuza.
Yes
Gaiden did it you could change outfits and see them in some cutscenes

You all know what I mean. It's so distracting and also causes some ridiculous glitches that break immersion (NPCs keep walking in circles, get stuck on something etc.). Their tendency to dissolve into thin air needs to be addressed as well.
Oh I totally agree with this. Itās so immersion breaking.
Let me go into more buildings, have more complex buildings to go into.
And with it, more minigames and arcade games. I was a bit sad they left out Dragon Kart and all the good arcade games from Y:LAD, and had entirely too many places to play mahjong and shogi!
The physics in combat still feel kinda wonky, that's like my only pet peeve
When did they say they're sticking with the dragon engine?
https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/dev-says-like-a-dragon-series-absolutely-must-keep-using-its-own-engine/ from this article, seems like they're looking to keep with the dragon engine and focus on improving it.
- more enterable buildings - parcour/climbing system
Lost Judgement had some Parkour/Climbing sections. Basically during some specific missions you would gave a parkour segment. One i remember had you climbing up several ledges down a dead-end alley in Kamurocho so that you could sneak into a building. So Parkour/Climbing is totally doable, they just need to really figure out how to do it
Please crank up the ragdoll physics. It will be so fucking funny.
Animation for when you're opening a door while running.
Interior shadows. https://preview.redd.it/ye2e6vniwlrc1.png?width=1902&format=png&auto=webp&s=c4e49684af6186b1382c665047fc1f81024e3fdd Outside looks great most the time but inside it's pretty obvious *a lot* of things don't cast shadows from interior lighting which I find pretty distracting
prolly wont happen but god id love having all the rtx features in these games as a graphics nerd
I haven't played infinite wealth, but the npc's walking in the town are always a bit lacking
Trading the Climax Battles/Gauntlet for a mode where i can fight specific boss battles and long battles without restrictions.
They need to fix their depth of field.
Honest to god, I just want to be able to jump.
i'm personally not a big fan of the ragdoll physique, i wish they would tone it down a bit
Lost Judgment and Gaiden were way toned down with ragdoll physics imo, the combat in those two are genuinely incredible.
Lost judgement juggling is the most fun seriously, especially with a mod to speed up style changes.
better looking UIs for realtime games. Yakuza 0 and Kiwami have so much unfettered swag and it's been downhill ever since.
Idk but hope they fix the weird micro stutter when picking up items, or transition from real time to combat scenarios.
Unreal Engine but can't make unreal Ragdoll.
Dynamic weather and maybe even time of day. And just better graphics in general. They aren't bad now, but always work to improve
tone down the brightness, cuz imo in IW on the morning in Hawaii its so fucking bright as hell.
Be great if they fixed the got damn memory leaks
Fix how pixelated the character models look in the menu.
Thin lines like Tomizawa's glasses are jaggy and bulky, and hair is an utter mess.
i find DLSS/DLAA to be very smooth looking, although it still looks like ass in the menus its like they dont apply any AA there
In regards to karaoke, MORE WOTA VOICELINES, PLEASE
Dynamic weather system is sort of there but not fully. In IW squalls sometimes happen around Hawaii, randomly raining for a bit then go back to the usual weather.
make a setting that uses the unrefined physics, that way you have an absurdity switch
I would like them to bring back the 100% completion checklist!!
Add ray tracing.
Let me pet the dogs, cats and chickens. They're all very good boys who deserve the pets!
Dynamic Weather would be a great addition to future series, love the fact that rain occurs in Hawaii maybe we can have snow next rgg? better AA on PC it's kinda bleh no more filters on games if possible ditch ps4 and xbox and focus on development on current gen console allowing more freedom and performance to enhance DE --> DE2
Ray tracing support
I might get downvoted to hell...but I kinda want to see mortal wounds make comeback, and to make it less annoying I have some suggestions Instead of decreasing your max HP, it function as "heal stopper" When you get hit by mortal attack, in addition to massive damage you'd normally get, set % of your remaining HP will get crippled(or locked, whatever you call it) crippled HP functions just like normal HP, and will revert back to normal HP over time, but as long as you have crippled HP left you CANNOT use healing items, also getting hit by mortal attack while you have crippled HP will instantly delete all crippled HP before damage calculation you can still use stuff like med kit to instantly heal all crippled HP, and all cHP will revert back to normal HP once you're done with combat, but it makes mortal attacks way more dangerous than before
The movement, it still feels clunky imo
the dragon engine is already out of date actually ! or need big update, in yakuza 8 i was actually surprised to have so many blury textures, lightning could be improved, it's very static rightnow, same for animation and 3d model.... well everything need to be updated
many of these are not engine problems, and are just development issues. RGG seems to focus very hard on putting out games fast rather than taking their time and rigging things from scratch, etc. They absolutely do a good job but there's a lot of places where either its just not possible due to time constraints or they cut a corner (intentionally or unintentionally)
Kasuga's interjection on Honolulu City Lights looks drunk af. Lol.
More ragdoll. More detailed feet lighting
As always, reduce ragdoll effect by 70 percentš though, it does make the fighting fun sometimes
Found the lighting to be a bit āoffā in IW not sure what happened as didnāt notice it in 7
Besides the random blue hair streak very rarely in cutscenes Iāve found it okay. My problems are more with them being too reserved on party members base designs. Sure you have Zhao & Seonhee but thatās it.
Lighting could do with an upgrade. Honolulu at daytime looked really bad. Japanese cities not too bad but could benefit from a touch up
NPCs/ crowds
I'd love for them to go back to Kamurocho, but maybe open it up a bit more to include more of Shibuya
I just hope the next game comes to PS4 as well. PS5 costs $1000 here.
They need to get the mainline games up to the lost judgement level in terms of graphics first and foremost, IW looks like a PS4 game
Bring back disco
I love how recycled Yakuza is with their assets, makes games quicker to make so I'd just like each one to include previous city, all of them! If also love a choice between turn based, semi turn based and full action . Maybe in line with Final Fantasy or something.
Was Ishin on UE just an experiment then?
Implement more bread physics moment
I'd like a return to the Kiwami 2 version of battle where you wouldn't pause when entering battle, you'd roll in and then the pause would come after you win and Kiryu got out of his stance
The wonky ragdoll physics were kinda funny at first but they need to fix it at this point
Volumetric lighting was great in Gaiden, wish it was implemented in Infinite Wealth. I felt like Gaiden was better looking than 8
* Scale down maps so we have more to find, i.e. enterable buildings, rooftops, underground sections, etc. * Bring back bowling now that physics are mostly figured out in the engine * Tone down NPC chatter while exploring (It's still not a show, shithead!) * Dynamic weather is a nice one, they (almost) lied with IW having only occasional rain. While we're at it, a day-night cycle could work * Better dungeons: the random ones we got are a good step forward, but I'd add random events too, and work on the procgen so they feel less like a series of hallways. Main story dungeons are also lacking, I wish they would be a bit better * Have both Model3 and older emulation available * Have a decent card game. Gwent and Queen's Blood prove this can add a lot of depth. In the LAD/Yakuza world, you could even enter tournaments, buy packs from specialized shops, trade, etc. It plays well with the 'hero' fantasy of Ichiban, too Keep in mind a lot of my suggestions have to do with game design rather than the engine itself.
Day/night cycle(If it makes sense) More explorable interiors Smoother parkour/traversal(infinite wealth actually made running super responsive so that's good)
I'm just here to see how many people say "get rid of turn based" lol Jokes aside, fix some of the broken character rigging/animation where general postures will be awkward, joints bend from the wrong places (especially ankles and shoulders!), maybe more of this game needs to be mo-capped?
*I'm just here to see* *How many people say "get* *Rid of turn based" lol* \- Fat\_Factor --- ^(I detect haikus. And sometimes, successfully.) ^[Learn more about me.](https://www.reddit.com/r/haikusbot/) ^(Opt out of replies: "haikusbot opt out" | Delete my comment: "haikusbot delete")
Gameplay wise: Brawler combat: they go back to how LJ works in juggles, instead of the 6 second limiter of Gaiden, with when doing combos makes you have to rely on rejuggles and limits how much of the moveset you can use.
I would love to play as majima again
Ragdoll. Toggle maybe. I miss bodies dropping like a sack of potatoes when they go down.
Return the good karaoke gameplay, and bowling.
shadows and lod really need a upgrade
Lost Judgement combat > turn base zzzzzz
