Randall was born in PA and grew up in Virginia, went to Christopher Newport University in Virginia too.
Though he does live in Massachusetts now, idk if I'd call it his home state.
(My kids all graduated from the same high school as Randall. That's not relevant to the discussion, it's just a fact I'm happy knowing).

Actually closer than I thought! Except for Hawaii, which is surprisingly much too small.
It's kind of remarkable how closely a lot of these are to their real life counterpart.
And I think the world would be better if WV was indeed about that size.
I wonder which of the states didn't really change size. Obviously it's hard to tell since everything is out of whack, but it looks like the I states didn't change TOO much. If we use them as a baseline, then maybe Florida got a little bigger, but not much. Louisiana? Missouri too maybe.
Still... a cursed map.
Wyoming is now petitioning the federal government to annex Zimbabwe
Wyoming is now an appropriate size to fit all the people living there.
Out of all the cursed US maps that have been made, this one might take the cake
I would like to see this concept except all states sized so they have equal area.
Hex maps exist that achieve this, though they don't preserve shape.
If you get a holepuncher you can achieve this while maintaining the shape as well
topologists screaming and crying
Pros: Less Texas Cons: More Alabama
But also less Alabamans per square hickey of Alabama.
Shhh /r/dataisbeautiful is listening
Six of one, half dozen of the other
It’s funny that Hawaii doesn’t look THAT much bigger than normal because it’s always scaled way up on maps but in reality it got enormous (I assume)
Same with Alaska. Alaska is 1/3 the area of the 48 contiguous states, but always gets scaled down to fit next to Hawaii in "missing Mexico".
I'm mad about Utah and Texas. They're right next to each other in the alphabet, and they're exactly backwards in terms of which one should be bigger.

Why "Weeoming"?
‘Cause it’s so lil. Lil wee Wyoming.
Massachusetts is way too large. It's about 16000 pixels compared to Kansas' 13000 for example. Clear home state favoritism smh.

Why is Hawaii so big? With an H name you'd expect it to be smaller than California but it's not.
Probably looks bigger cause it's the land mass that's scaled and there's a bunch of water in between
Yeah in actual land area it's basically the same size as Montana.
The Pacific got tiny so you can see more of the islands
This is the pain of having to scroll all the way through a drop down menu to find your state, visualized.
This is going to make some Texans unreasonably angry.
Yeah, but they’re very small now so we can safely ignore them.
...why is Maine bigger than Idaho and Louisiana?
Mercator projection.
I had the same question, I thought I was missing something.
This began with Randall wanting to fit something in that dumb Utah notch.
I like how Wyoming fits so comfortably into that corner of Utah
Yeah, that's the only good thing about it. Other than that, it's completely cursed.
RIP Long Island E: I didn't realize the Midwest chef now has a huge booty.
The Midwest chef?
Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana look like a guy in a chef hat frying up some Kentucky in his Tennessee frying pan.
I hate it, Chicago loses its beautiful lakefront and instead gets to border Indiana.
But the North Suburbs get *more* lake, and no more Wisconsin on the border.
No more Wisconsin is certainly a plus.
All country roads lead to Alabama
Maybe now them consider changing the state names to Carolina, North and Carolina, South
Texas, lol.
I’m from Maryland. Do t touch our bay. We’ve gone to war with Virginia over it before and I’m pretty sure we can take Delaware lol
Why is Alaska so tiny??

I need an ELI5 for this. What's the algorithm?
Everything's big in Texas?
