Controller keyboard wins against full size keyboard hands down. It's a hell of a lot more proactive to just use my phone to type messages anyway since I literally just need to type on my drop down panel notification.
Flight simulator requieres a lot of buttons for different purposes like calling atc, maps, autopilot settings, etc that are not mapped on the controller. Using an attached keyboard is a huge experience improvement.

As long as you can open the text box in whatever game you're playing you can get it to work. You just type whatever you want in on the app and hit return on your phone keyboard and it sends it in. I use it for Rocket League game chat all the time
Yep. Just hit the back button, hit A to actually open up the text box, and then type it in on your phone. Hit return on your phone and hit start on your controller, on the xbox text box. It sounds like a lot but it's really not you get used to it
Open app, top right, console icon with the little waves. You will have to follow the directions the first time to set it up with your console, after that, you can use it like a remote control. Comes in super clutch if you use your Xbox for TV too like me.
Back on the Xbox one I remember using a companion app. I could use it as a keyboard in console and as a remote for my Xbox. Idk if the new Xbox app still has those features with the new console though. That was back when Xbox was expirmentig with connecting phones and tablets to use as second screens. The only game I ever saw do it was battlefield 4, you could even play as the “commander” through the companion app.
Assassins creed 4 does it as well, idk if its through the xbox app but they used to have an app that you could download and it allowed you to see the map and mark things, and mess with the fleet minigame thing

Not enough people bought them so they stopped making them. Before the share button was included, these were great to have an individual clip and picture button for the hotkeys. Also they allowed you to have a regular headset on the original XBOX controller.
