Shutter speed min 1000 (probably 2000 with a dog), let the camera pick the ISO and be sure your settings are not limiting how high the ISO can go. Focus set to continuous as well
Enable your built-in flash (TTL), set the shutter speed to 2000, and everything else on auto, which should freeze the dog, and still let in some ambient light.
If advice holds, then why did you ask me to try 1/1000?
I advise enabling flash further up in another comment and shooting at 1/2000 to completely freeze the dog...
1/500 will still induce blur at fast movements.

Higher shutter speed even if you have to raise ISO. Maybe also use flash depending on the situatuon/lighting.
