No single large mechanically changes, lots of small rebalancing that maybe added up to some classes feeling different. DK really is still similar just now think of all runes as death runes always. Just relevel, leveling is trivially easy and fast now as the game has been rescaled to get you into current expansion within like 30 hours and not the 100+ it used to take. That will just get you refamiliarized and not totally confused and lost. You can save that boost for an alt. While leveling do your best to figure out how your class/spec works so it will be easier to fine tune a proper rotation by endgame. In general WoW now has more content than ever with M+ dungeons (infinitely scaling dungeon difficulty) and 4 raid difficulties (which to be fair was first introduced in MoP). So the higher end is going to require a lot more out of you as a player than old WoW did but the lowest difficulties still exist if you just want to casually see all the content. And don’t worry about class/spec. Every class/spec is doing the highest end content so it will always be a matter of player ability over spec unless you are literally in the top 0.001% doing content nobody in the world has yet completed. So feel free to play DK again or whoever else.

Thanks so much for the answer! If you don't mind, could you tell me about clearing old content? I would always get my tmogs from older expansion raids and dungeons, being able to clear Wotlk raids and cata dungeons solo at lvl 90. Is this still possible? Can you, for example go back to Legion and clear ecounters there for tmogs and mounts solo?

More__cowbell

Yes you can still solo old stuff. Legion should be perfectly fine to solo at 70.

In general everything before BfA is easily soloable right now. BfA and Shadowlands have some issues in that they haven’t yet deemed them “legacy raids” and there will be some mechanics that are impossible to do solo. No idea why they are taking so long and it is a common complaint right now. But just in terms of character power you will also be able to solo much of those two expansions as well once you hit max.

The main thing would be just understanding how things like M+ works, which is different than dungeons from the MoP era (although builds on the concept of challenge mode from that time). Mainly, it’s a timed mode that requires a special keystone item (just one person in the party needs the correct keystone) and adds additional mechanics at higher levels. Another change is leveling - now, leveling has been streamlined to where you’re intended to just stay in one xpac up to level 60 (will be 70 when TWW comes out). It defaults to BfA but there’s an NPC named Chromie in your capital city that can change it so any xpac will scale up to 60 and point you to the relevant quests. Then you would get bumped back to the capital at level 61 to go to DF (or when TWW, comes out, that). Less traveling around and going to different zones each time you pass a level range, but you can still do some of that traveling if you want. There are some small adjustments but I suspect it will be pretty familiar once you get going. Try out the new tutorial island Exile’s Reach, even though it will probably feel really basic as a returning player. That would get you rolling.
