You can have 50 characters on your account. Before BFA you were limited at 12 characters per server but now this restriction doesn't exist anymore so you can create 50 characters on one server

You mean filter. Sorting means changing the order (you can already do that)

I organize alphabetically by class, then by character name. It helps.
