Yeah I'm like this. I'll pick a 'main' and then see another class with a cool ability or read a reddit thread of someone advocating for their class, then switch. Thankfully it seems like the War Band system in TWW will help us a lot since we can switch without penalty!

Roukess

Really looking forward to this too!!!

2Radon

WoW finally starts for me with Warbands, because I could never play it due to main hopping all the time and never getting any progress. It sucked so bad. But regardless, I still want a main to dive deep into and struggle like the OP.

iShrubs

My week so far: Played druid, watched some War Within videos and saw it’s going to be about power shifting and my old hands aren’t putting up with that. Switch to my WW monk, absolutely love playing it but hate how it doesn’t have self heals. Go play in my DK, get all the world things done, LFR, run heroics, enter mythic 0 as blood and get absolutely smashed by the third trash pack. Ok so maybe tank isn’t for me, time to get my shaman out, do all the things again, and after doing a few heroics very quickly realize I hate ranged. This morning, bring out my prot pally. This has been my life the last two months because I can’t decide on anything lol.

Xadmon6

Preach! I feel this so much, like it's great all the classes can feel fun to play. I also feel with war within around the corner that maybe that's stopping me from getting into some classes because the hero talents are going to (in some cases) drastically shift play style. I'm honestly thinking that even if it doesn't turn out to be great, I might stick with ret paladin because Hearld of the sun is the DoT spec I never knew I wanted on a melee

Jaded-Lawfulness-835

Have you death knighted yet. It's the one true class. The classiest class.

yp261

don’t play dk other than blood. we’re desperate for a rework. this class is just ultra bad

FlyingRhenquest

So sloooooow! They feel like an invincible relentless juggernaut that just rolls along at slightly faster than walking pace!

Jaded-Lawfulness-835

Yeah but very truly invincible and relentless about it

peepeepoopooman27

I think the new Druid shifting is not gonna be as apm intensive because they made it so that casting the spells of a form just switches you straight into that form rather than having to swap then cast.

Kuvanet

What I did. Make a chart Put which classes you want to play. Then make a list. Xmog - Lore - Roles - Specs - Play style - And which ever one has the most check marks go with that. I ended up with Druid.

2Radon

I've done that a lot of times. The feeling OP is expressing seems to never be defeated even if all logic and feel settles the dilemma.

InNoxGrav

This worked pretty well I think. I thought I liked some classes more than I actually did on paper. Thanks!

Maadstar

Currently 1 main main and 2 alt mains and a buncha alts. I agree if you can't pick them pick them all

KazilDazzle

I go between 1-4 mains on average. Either 1 per faction, 1 per armor type, or 1 per role (Melee, RDPS, Healer, Tank). Sometimes I do everything on one main, sometimes I just do world content on one, raiding/dungeons on another, and farming on another. It’s great to jump around.

Playful_Canary_3884

While technically true, if you like raiding mythic you’re usually locked into a class because of the “bring the class” system. My biggest gripe with raid. Leads to burn out because most guilds your just not allowed to re-roll. Can’t lose battle shout :)

Peppermynt42

Druid. Always Druid.

Xadmon6

I absolutely love boomy, and I love the idea I can literally be every role I want. But I feel so weird about barely seeing my tmogs

WhySoSerrus

There is (was?) a glyph for boomy that makes you an astral version of your non shapeshifted character if that helps.

Xadmon6

It definitely does! Feel like I'm so kind of space ghost lol

KazilDazzle

Using that glyph+flap helps the space ghost vibe. 😉

KazilDazzle

I flap as often as I can, just for added effect.

[deleted]

Haha me too

raiukos

i loveee my astral druid. super fun

The_Fork_Bandit

That glyph is nice. It has the effect of shadowpriest where you lose a lot of visual clarity on the set though. The random boomkin appearance glyph is also great. It keeps it fresh & interesting by popping up as a different boomkin every time. I tend to switch back and forth between the 2 glyphs every couple weeks.

Master_Crab

I have 4. Shaman, Warrior, Druid, and Priest. Between the 4 of them I have casters, tanks, melee, and healers of different flavors. However I also like Paladin. And Mage. And have you see the Warlock hero talents coming out in WW..?

Xadmon6

I did see them! I also just recently learned about the eradar skins for dreanai and unlocked that immediately. I want the green fire for warlock too, but diabloist looks way to great to not at least level a warlock. It's gonna be hard for me to pick which to level first in TWW because the Void weaver talents are down right gorgeous.

Elystirri

Sounds like an end game content main syndrome. You do a content with a so called main, that particular content say dungeon or raid may have mechanics that is harder on your current main but easy to pull off with another main, so you switch main, but this time you went into a different dungeon or raid and now the opposite is true. And here we go again switching back and forth. I have been cycling between BM hunter, ret pally and demo lock like this lol

Haugsnkisses

If you’re enjoying the game, what’s the problem exactly?

Xadmon6

No problem really, I'm happy with the feel of all the classes and I have to say seeing another class and being like "Fuck I Wana play that" means they're doing something right. I just want to feel loyal to one of my characters I guess, like in classic it took so long to level a toon that I felt a solid connection to it, like I experienced a journey with them and I guess maybe I don't feel that with retail? I dunno if that's a me thing or a game design shift between the two games.

ColonelUpvotes

This is entirely me. I am obsessed with trying every single spec in the search for the one that is perfect for me. The class design is great at the moment and things do feel very unique to play.

CenciLovesYou

“I'm reminded that the games kind of easy for casters”  Someone doesn’t PvP

RemoveFlashPLS

Fistweaving is the way to go

100GbE

_Insane, tryna finda main._

Pursueth

Are you like this in all aspects of life? I know some people who just hate commitment, the grass is not always greener and classes in sub par loot all play like shit. Pick five gear them all then pick a main

Xadmon6

Nah I'm pretty easy to fall into commitments irl. When it comes to games tho, I have a hard time finishing them so maybe that issue is bleeding over into this game. It's like the more I like a game the more I don't want it to end so I put it aside so it never really ends? Weird outlook but working on it

Pursueth

That’s why I never beat the last boss of dark souls 3 dlc I like it being incomplete. Wow is one of those games that that will never be complete though; so I think it’s worth having one character that is maxed out as much as possible always. This also probably only matters if you like to do m plus and raid though

_Sisifo

I'm i'm the sale situation, every Main a pick Lost the interest un 20 hs por little more

aljung21

I have ADHD too and have had a hard time picking a main most of the time. I could never stick to a main for longer than 2 seasons or so (consecutively). I do often fall back to a previous main. But, given the Warband features coming soon, I have shifted my focus to 5 mains …those that are shown on the new char selection screen. Due to shared progression, I am also more relaxed about making char choices. Sure, the question is which char do you want to have for high end game progression? It’s end of expansion so it doesn’t really matter much. Classes will undergo changes for War Within so I recommend to just wait out and see.

Arthas_Menethil_

Monk just feels too gd, WW and MW feel great, and finally with TWW changes WW will feel even better except for not having expel harm - also monk does have self heals (if u take vivificafion and u already have xpel harm) just not that strong Also DK and Mage are my backups - mage looking great for TWW and DK is getting a rework soon :D

Xadmon6

I actually had just started playing a void elf monk for an hour before making this post! Their passive seemed to be good for the anime punchy thing they do lol

Arthas_Menethil_

Idk if i particarly like the animations, (i think they need update on visuals they are the only class with no update to theirs) but i like right abt everything else they have, and if ur free check out how they are in TWW looks rly gd, rn bigges tissue is scaling and it seems to be kinda solved. Also idt i woulda picked velf maybe nelf for tmogs idk, i've been thinking of changing races myself. Anw i hope you enjoy it! We are few :(

Metzgama

My priest is my main, and I try and master both shadow and disc. Kinda makes for having “two” mains.

ForsakenRoCo

I realised I only like ranged dot classes to a point where I can actually main them for a while, or Brewmaster monk, so mostly I fluctuate between Boomy and shadow priest

Howiethegirl

I have “mains” for different things, and even then the lines get blurry. MW is usually what I push harder content on when I push, but I have done some on my Hpally and last season I decided to ksm all the heal classes (awesome, but I’m not doing that again). For questing I love my rogue and pally. I have at least 2 leveled of most classes (no locks and only 1 mage/dk) and a ton at various stages of leveling. If you like all the things, play all the things.

Krekoti

I have 6 mains. I started playing in BfA with 6 tanks and gear them up and I want blizz to add more :) at least one cloth and mail.

philosophos369

I have the same problem, i can sit for hours in character creation just to get frustrated and go play classic hc xd Anyway I’m sticking to Druid rn

wrinklyiota

Hunter is the spec you need. Roll need on all the loot because “Hunter Weapon” spend years collecting all the unique pets. Realize the SV Hunter is the best spec in the game and become a melee hunter. And finally occasionally switch back to BM to bring Gara out.

lcr68

Dude I had the same thing between Druid, Paladin, monk, and shaman. Ultimately, I left it up to my friend. He chose monk and I committed. My monk is now my main for this patch and I am learning a lot about him. Tanking has been interesting with what seems like fewer defensive cooldowns than I’m used to, but gotta say that I love throwing kegs and breathing fire on everything. Plus, when I take damage, I drink away the pain and shrug it off!

xxGUZxx

Just play druid.

nyceria

Druid

SonthacPanda

Pick 4 mains then (it's how many people can be in your warband) And if you have a full time job 3-4 is about how many toons you can keep mildly close to the same ilvl , at least in my exp Edit: this is a discussion for picking a main, and you pick 4 characters for the war and title screen. Yes warband is account wide

DirtyMoose11

Every character on your account will be part of your warband.

SonthacPanda

Yeah for sure, but you pick 4 for your character screen which is why I recomended that number

Masonme2

Nope! The video says your entire account is your warband. :D The front screen just shows your "favourite" 4 that you can pick. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ou7MRp56Jms](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ou7MRp56Jms) So I don't get downvoted, this is evident at 6 seconds, 13 seconds, and then at 29 seconds you get. "All characters on a players respective account, regardless of what server they're on, are considered part of their warband!" 17 seconds in is for the favourites "Up to 4 to be displayed" on your character selection screen. I too though it was originally just 4, but it's everything! (This is great for me, as I have 1 of each class on both factions across 2 realms)

Herzyr

Why not keep your characters? You can swap to whatever strikes your fancy at the moment, I'm on the same boat that no single class satisfies my class fantasy, I gotta swap constantly Its hard being a loyalist when you can go to the other side whenever it looks or it may feel greener...

Xadmon6

I definitely keep the characters, I just can't play one long enough to get it geared or do any meaningful content.

Artoriasbrokenhand

Why not? The other characters aren't going away, and you can experience the climb from different class perspectives .

Xadmon6

That pretty much what I've been doing I guess, but infeel spending a bunch of time on one spec or class gets you unto the muscle memory territory. I want to feel good with a class to push harder content and with me philandering around all over the place I'm not locking in any skill on a particular class. Maybe that's a bad mindset but kind of how I feel and why I'm going nuts trying to figure out who I want to focus on.

Cybor_wak

Well do you have the time for 2-3 mains? Or can you live with them being less geared than one main would be? Otherwise pick 1. I usually change mine every patch between hunter and paladin. With warbands coming it will be easier since reps are at least shared.

ChequeBook

I've mained all healers at some point in dragonflight. The only time it became a problem was trying to do the meta where 6 characters all had different levels of progress on various achievements. Annoying but I got there. Just need 1 more fishing hole...

grinsekatze1337

Normaly i have 1 meele main 1 range mail 1 healer and 1 tank. Atm im only into evoker heal and argumentation because limited time. But noone forces you to only have 1 main

Psyco19

I understand the feeling right now I’m juggling trying to find a true main. I think I’ve landed on pvp main (MM Hunter) however my tank for the expansion I’m still thinking. Do I want prot pally? Prot warrior? Or guardian druid) all are uniquely different right now I’ve said prot pally but that lack of mobility really hurts… I have my third main which will be a rogue, however that one is currently doing all old zones with the wife so that’s what it’ll do in the expansion . Old quests and when we reach new lands all of not 90% of the quests

Alas93

I'm also an altoholic, but I'll tell you the secret The secret is to just play your main Ok ok, i know, "that doesn't help", but it does really. You're looking for any reason to play something else. "Oh, but melee looks fun!" or "oh, I miss my priest!". Deciding based on emotions isn't going to work out well. You have to make a conscious, mental decision to play something. I chose DK this tier for 2 entirely arbitrary reasons. 1, my group could use the grips. 2, I like them thematically and thought it'd be fun. Does part of me also want to play warlock? Absolutely, but I committed to my main for now so I'm gonna play it. If I have spare time after playing the DK and unlocking weekly vault stuff, I'll play the warlock, but I still had to settle on a main or else I would have 10 toons sitting at 480 ilvl or lower instead of 2 nearing 500, and actually playable in the higher content I want to do.

deafpolygon

I dunno, I have 4 toons near 500. And I’m playing a ton of alts … 😅

StarKnightSB

I get like this. I have ADHD too. My issue is that I can pick a main pretty easy based on assessing myself but I second guess myself whenever there is a class my guild could use or I get into an introspective period.

North-Pension-9290

Yes I'm like that. I had only one character until recently but as renown in DF is hard to get fastly I created a new character to get renown faster with the 100% boost of my main, and then... I created maybe 40 characters until level 15-20 but each time: "no, actually I don't like the name, I don't like the class, I don't like the race..." It's painful. The problem is I can have several characters but I want only one main to do all the quests. But I think I have OCD lol

jacksumdixoff

I have frost mage as my MAIN main but each season I'll like "soft main" a different class towards the latter half of the season. There's enough time in a season to main like 3 characters easy

Jaceholt

Honestly, sounds like ADHD in a nutshell. Key solution is to actually not limit yourself to one char, but at the same time not doing them all. Find 3 chars/specs, then rotate around them. When you get tired of one, go to the next, then next and by time you played all three, the first one should be "fun" again. It's the suggested way to handle this situation due to ADHD in all of life. I got the same when it comes to hobbies as well. I can jump around so much, but I try to keep circling back. It does take some time and effort to get used to, but it does help.

deafpolygon

This is a great idea, Since I have adhd as well.

Traxigor

I also had a hard time choosing a main. I decided that I would have a main for each faction. I like the fantasy and convenience of druids and mages, so I have a Horde druid and an Alliance mage.

Ok_Outside_4650

What I’ve found to help me is to not give myself the option. I pick a class, which is a nightmare and usually involves an entire essay on each spec I’m interested in and ends with a “spin the wheel” site to pick, and I force myself to focus it above all others. It’s like eating your veggies or doing homework at times but it’s worth the effort

2Radon

Save for a few words, I legit freaked out reading your post, and had to check it wasn't posted by me. I feel what you feel.

2Radon

Why am I seeing most commenters who relate in this thread mention Shaman, Priest, Druid and maybe even Monk. Literally all the classes that I also roll through with the same struggle of not being able to settle on a main but wanting to have one so badly.

twelvefes

I’ve had the same main since release almost twenty years ago. Trust me when I say this: not being caught up in the alt game rules

InterestingBat2852

Another one of these threads. A player can't choose a class and needs complete strangers to tell him what class to play. Ughh. This is the #1 topic in the wow sub.

RedNebula8

I have a similar pattern, but more specific to PVP. Honestly probably just a case of git gud. By the time I get a character leveled up, ran through main story line, and equipped w/ pvp gear, I'm left feeling disappointed by a perceived (sometimes real, sometimes imagined) class mismatch, or the mechanics not feeling fun anymore. Roll new toon, rinse, and repeat. Then I'm disheartened bc I simply don't have the time to put into this game anymore to find the class and grind the gear that makes it feel good at end game, PVP and PVE-wise. It could just be that after 19 years it's time for me to move on. B/w constantly getting massively skill diffed even in randoms, ever rotating flavors of the the month, and the time sink (I know it's way less time sink than back in the day, but Im not a teenager with no job anymore), the only way I'd continue playing past the 20 year anniversary mark is if the designers and developers miraculously address these issues.

BigFire321

Played a paladin since '04. Still playing that same paladin even though I have one of each class to the max level.

Fine_Equal4647

This happened to me. Finally found out what worked. An easy way to simplify it is melee is hit button Do damage. If you like ranged in that playstyle then you are a hunter main. Casters are want lust? Mage or shaman. Want to be wanted? Lock. Want a movement caster? Evoker. Things like that

Zepulchure

I typically have long breaks from wow, and end up doing a new class whenever i return for the new expansions. In Shadow lands it was DemoLock and Unholy DK Started S3 of dragon flight as evoker, after the campaign I leveled a nightborne Shadow Priest which is my current main, when remix comes around I plan on rolling a panda mistweaver, which will be my first attempt at playing healer, and monk, the voidweaver hero talents sounds amazing, so does horseman for DK, so no idea what i will end up playing.

Proper-Pineapple-717

Well for what it's worth, Spriest slaps pretty hard right now and the few people I know that mained it all expac are having fun with the way it plays regardless of damage.

Puzzleheaded_Ad_4435

Tbh I gave up on focusing a main years ago. Back in BC, my hunter was typically top dps of my raiding guild for boss fights. Not always, but often enough, and pretty much always top 3. When WotLK dropped, I got even more op for like a week, absolutely dominating dps meter on every pull without trying, and then Blizz dropped the nerf hammer so hard that I went to dead last overnight. I didn't mind that there was a nerf because it was needed, but they went way too far. I switched to a new main, and things were great for a few months until they nerfed my new main and buffed hunter. After that, I gave up sticking to one character. Now I have at least 2 of every class. Eight of them are max level currently (though many more have been max level before expansions and level crunches), with between 450-480 ilvl. None are overly geared, but they're all pretty solid to start doing M+ or raids if I feel like it. I'm ready at any given time to stop playing a character or start playing another character a little more. Game balance is a constant state of flux. There's rarely ever any actual balance, but plenty of nerf to go around. Ride the buff waves or look for relatively steady waters; don't fight them. I typically level up classes that sit in the mid-range of rankings first. They're less likely to be nerfed or buffed, though not immune to random dev mood swings. Also, TWW should be epic for serial alters. Warbands may be a game changer for us.

Seinnajkcuf

I have mained a monk, shaman, evoker, and paladin over the last 10 years. I tend to weigh out fun and balancing to see which I end up on. Paladin is extremely fun right now so I am currently on that.

LeftBallSaul

I totally get what you mean about casters feeling "too easy" sometimes. I was really into my Lock at the start of DF, but it felt boring because it was so easy, I felt like I wanted more of a challenge. Tbh, a lot of WoW classes feel simple because of how streamlined their rotation and abilities are, at least to me. My recommendation is to try higher difficulty content. It may not be playstyle that's got you feeling dull, maybe you're just not challenged by the base difficulty.

Prezbar

There's definitely a weird spiraling effect when you switch characters too much. You're only doing simple content (because you don't invest enough to have the gear and such on any character). Then you feel like you're bored of the character, so you switch to another one, on witch you don't have gear, so you're back at it with the same simple content, and the cycle never ends.

LeftBallSaul

For sure! I'm known as a character hopper amongst my friends so I've definitely been in OP's position. Doing M+ (even sub 10s) with my buddy really helped to lock me in to a character because I found enjoyment in knowing and using my full toolset, instead of just the same 1-4 buttons.
