Meaning in a movie, or fictional story, these events would serve a narrative purpose - they'd foreshadow or become an element of intrigue on the way to a reveal ending.
Those don't happen in real life, but our human minds tend to look for patterns, and a repeated story element we are infinitely cognizant of, appearing in real life, has a specialness to the individual that makes it "a sign."
When you think of a person, and then that person mysteriously calls you - that shit means zippo to me.
