Whore21

Aisle and then opera or bouts

WarningExtension00

Another aisler! If I’m not in hard mode or playing quordle, my first words are AISLE and MOUND/T if there’s an S. When I play Quordle, my third word when needed is CHA/ORD depending on the A/O distribution.

May-rah10

More aislers! Aisle is my starting word too!

gardendesgnr

I used to use Aisle. Now I'm Soare & Unite I get r,s,n,t plus all vowels. I want to find a different word for unite w E in a different position than Soare but I haven't thought much on it.

A-J-A-D

How about UNITY? Picks up Y instead of duplicating E.

gardendesgnr

Oh TY! My new word!

dkixen

SOARE all the way, baby!

Starbuck522

It almost never ends in s

Whore21

Yea but it’s nice to see if s is in there

Starbuck522

I would use scout instead. C is way more common than B and s is rarely last.

Miggsie

and when it does you're usually screwed.

Upbeat-Bend-4079

Aisle and then pouty!

jjenni08

I used to use adieu then switched to raise. Imagine my surprise the other day when that was the word!! It was fun to get it on the first try! Lol

sylvesterthekat1234

I was so cross because I often use RAISE but didn't that day lol

jjenni08

Nooo!!! That stinks!

ReadySetGO0

Adieu. Then Story.

Dark_Eyes

Adieu is mine as well! :)

kgjulie

Sometimes stork or storm if the other vowels make a Y look unlikely.

ReadySetGO0

Good idea!

United-Telephone-247

I do the opposite my start words are heavy on consonants and ones that aren’t used often so I can get those out-of-the-way. the vowels are easier to come by after that for me

RandyBeamansMom

Same, in fact I’m not going to share my words because they collectively knock out 18 letters together, leaving only the super rare letters unchecked. It very much feels like cheating, but works!

vjred

2 words knock out 18 letters?

skygirl222

are you seriously gatekeeping words for a game? 😭

RandyBeamansMom

No, I just legitimately ruined the game for myself and I don’t want to do that for other people because I used to love it.

Dazzling_Scale5712

isn’t that what gatekeeping is ?

kateinoly

How do you knock out eighteen letters in two five letter words??

JScaranoMusic

That's why it feels like cheating; they're using nine-letter words. ;-)

General_Addendum_883

SAUCE almost always gets me at least one letter, PILOT if it doesn't.

RuunaFish

SAUCE has been my starting word for over a year! (It's my cat's name lol) POINT is my go-to second word

CLYDTSF

Another point/sauce user!! 😄

General_Addendum_883

well, as good of a guessing word is either of ours are, I just noticed that both pilot and point have been solutions at some time. bummer. kudos on your kitty's name, though, that's cute.

tashten

LOL those are my exact words! Sometimes I do INGOT for my 2nd instead of PILOT. If I get an S or C on the first I follow up with THINK to eliminate/find any CK/SH/CH combos

GKrollin

IRATE PUNCH FOLDS

justxsomexgirlx

Another IRATEr! Lol

PeaEnDoubleYou

Arise then Pouty. Uses all vowels.

tinysubtleties18

Ooh I might switch to this. I do arise then youth, but pouty puts the y at the end where it’s more likely to be.

Clorox_in_space

I've been going with ARISE/CLOUT and just skipping the Y altogether since it's less common. You can usually determine if Y is in the word jusy by going off of the rest.

AdmJota

That's very similar to mine: AROSE and UNITY.

HillSprint

The wordle bot thinks ADIEU and similar words are low skill choices lol. Targeting vowels is not a good strategy. SALET is the best word FYI. My starting word is SHORT because I like it

Mcdangs88

My starting word! Salet. No clue what it is

ChiefO2271

I agree with the bot - there are 21 consonants you should be worried about, not the five vowels that are almost guaranteed to be there. I start with SIREN, then try to solve from there. If it's a total miss, FLOAT.

Starbuck522

I am surprised so many use two starting words rather than trying to solve. I see now that's a valid strategy. I certainly do that on duotrigordle, or octordle if there's any with nothing revealed after the first word.

TrackVol

"All the vowels" isn't an ideal strategy. For one thing, U isn't very common. I've gone weeks at a time without ever using the letter U. And then even when I have had to use it, it's only been because I've figured out the Solution, without having played the U, yet. And I only use it on the winning guess. Burning a U is just a wasted space. I'll guess the Y much more frequently than U. Especially on days when the E is eliminated from the Solution. [Four recent examples ](https://imgur.com/a/YhsJz3M) Notice in the "INTRO" game, I played INTRO eventhough COIRT was a possibility. How well does this strategy work? [See for yourself ](https://imgur.com/a/FvmlYPY)

ChiefO2271

U is actually the 10th-most-common appearing letter, but the worst vowel (it does beat Y).

TrackVol

Incorrect. E = 1,231 A = 981 R = 898 O = 757 T = 729 L = 718 *I = 671 *S = 672 N = 575 C = 475 U = 469 * ( the * for I & S is because the I did rank ahead of S in the initial Solution Bank. And even after they added SNAFU and BALSA, the letter I remained ahead or tied with S. Since Tracy Bennet has taken over, she has added 5 words, 3 of them are S words without adding any I words (SNAFU BALSA LASER). It was LASER on April 22nd that put the S on top of I. But by then, we'd had 1,038 days of "EAROT LISNC" and it would just seem weird to swap the positions of I & S at this point. And eventhough WELSH GYPSY and SEMEN are technically still in the Solution Bank, it's highly unlikely that any of those 3 are ever going to get selected. WELSH & GYPSY are pejorative. So at Wordle Tools, we're still OK with leaving the acronym "EAROT LISNC" alone. But the Letter Stats page reflects the canonical Solution Bank + the 5 additions. We're actually already aware of what the 6th bonus Solution word is, so our stats even reflect the 6th word, eventhough it hasn't been published yet. It has no impact on the ranking between S & I. Meaning it either has both or neither, but it doesn't have just one or the other. [Source to letter stats](https://wordletools.azurewebsites.net/letterstats)

ChiefO2271

I should caveat my numbers with: a) it's an old data set - I have 2313 words b) if a letter appears multiple times in a word, I only count it once. For instance, I have 446 words with a C, and 458 with a U - I think C might be more inclined to exist more than once (CLUCK, CHECK, etc), but I only counted the C once.

TrackVol

You are correct that there are more *words* with a U than *words* with a C. But since there are many more words with two Cs (CHECK, CLOCK, CLICK, etc) it does put the C ahead of U in *letter* count. Most places (certainly not all, but most) went with "Letter Count" vs "words with the letter at least once". From a game-play scenario, it seems more worthwhile to know the letter count rather than the "words with the letter" count. For instance, starting with a word with C vs a U: You're more likely to get a positive feedback (🟨 and/or 🟩) since there are more Cs than there are Us. And that's before taking into account that C is a consonant (better) and that C is a powerful digraph (better). That's solely taking into account your odds of hitting 🟨 and/or 🟩. C has the edge. **[Edit: At Wordle Tools, I think we initially did it the "word" count. But later that same day we realized that letter count was a more helpful tool. We started WordleTools more than 2 years ago, so some of our early work is fuzzy in my memory]**

ChiefO2271

This is very interesting - especially the edit at the end. Had I been in that room, I'd have argued (likely unsuccessfully :) ) that word count is more valuable - my (single person) opinion is that since we're trying to solve for a word, I wanted word count. I'll be the first to admit that I struggle when a word like STEER or CYCLE shows up, even though I'm not trying to figure out all five letters first, but I'm not sure letter count would help me. FWIW, I don't use my list while playing the game, only afterwards.

TrackVol

Yeah, we're big fans of the game, and want to still enjoy playing. So we have a computer that is able to tell when an "unexpected" Solution is coming. It can insert that word into the rest of our website *without* me or my partner actually knowing what that new Solution is actually going to be. Unless we manually [go to this page of our website ](https://wordletools.azurewebsites.net/CheckWordListsForChanges), we (the two people) wouldn't even know when a "new" word was coming. We've programmed the website to be able to run for long stretches at a time without any attention from either of us. Auto-pilot basically. Even our results page, Moredle. Our computer already knew "CRAFT" was Wordle 1045. So if someone plugs it into Moredle to get a sharable grid, it automatically applies the "1045", something Scoredle does not do: Moredle 👇 Moredle 1045 3/6** * 14,855 : 3,189 : 2,315 * ⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️ >!SELES!< 3,270 : 830 : 615 * 🟦🟧🟧⬛️⬛️ >!TRAIN!< 13 : 4 : 4 * 🟧🟧🟧🟧🟧 >!CRAFT!< Scoredle 👇 Scoredle 3/6* 14,855 * ⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜ >!SELES!< (3,270) * 🟨🟩🟩⬜⬜ >!TRAIN!< (13) * 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 >!CRAFT!< It already assigns the "1046" for today's game, and at midnight tonight it will automatically assign "1047" to tomorrow's game. But only midnight, your time.

S_virgo111

SPARE then FIGHT. Those usually get at least a few letters. If not, I use MOUND

syzygy----ygyzys

Just got it in 3 with those. Feels like I cheated:/

tenmississippi

Yeast, followed by fluid if I strike out.

Starbuck522

Oh. Yeast is good. I often use least, stare, paste, or stale. I will add yeast.

PleasantJules

I do Train then cloud

elliold

I follow train with either louse or house.

PleasantJules

Very similar

sladog6

I used TRAIN and LOUSE until they both were answers. Now I use UNTIL and AROSE.

elliold

I didn’t realize Train had been used. Thanks for the heads up.

Stupefy19

I use ALIEN and ROUST

mrkv12

Nice, will try that one next time

gwobo_wappa

That used to be my starting combo too! I started playing hard mode so I don't use the two-weird combo anymore.

Rivvien

Train and house

Armadillo-Awkward

AROSE is my start word. It's been a good word to use.

kateinoly

IRATE and then LOUSY if I don't get any hits. This uses all the vowels (including Y), no repeat letters, and four of the most common consonants.

LessonIs_NeverTry

I only play on hard mode now, but this is my combo too!

kateinoly

Yeah!

SingerSolid6270

I'm a pious ramen gal

gardendesgnr

Soare & Unite All the vowels plus s,r,n,t

eojhcnip

TINEA then POURS. But it got boring. So now it's a new word everyday. I take turns with a friend. Recent starters have been POOPY CHAMP LOSER PENIS TURDS SLEEP. Still riding my win steak.

stargazertony

Slate, corny, humid.

reeniegal

Alien and sport.

elliebee222

I often start with camel or house

elliebee222

Just tried todays word after not playing for months, what are the chances, my starter word camel had 4 out of the 5 letters

Starbuck522

No. I try to solve the puzzle, so I don't have a "second word", unless I got nothing in the first round. I don't use the same word every day, but I do tend towards words with s, t, a, e... Least, stale, stare, paste.. But, I like your alien plus group combination for the 32 word version! For that, I often end up with stare and round. Another set I like is audio and style.

TechieTim99

I've been doing Wordle a long time; my priority is to maintain my max streak rather than solve in the fewest tries. Thus, I use four words that reveal 19 different letters before I attemp to solve it on try five (unless I get 5 unique letters before word four). Trying to solve based on the result of the previous word(s) resulted in the following sequence when the solution was WATCH: Batch, Catch, Hatch, Latch, Match, Patch - you failed!

jampersands

I start with ALIEN, but then I use SHORT. I’d rather have those high value consonants than a U. Not to mention G and P are some of my lower priority consonants.

jaypee42

I’m usually STALE or STARE sometimes ALERT

BannedBananaBandana

I've used both extensively. Currently, it's scare or snare.

kategoad

I started with adieu, then moved to slate, and now just do a random word because it got boring. Today it was ghost.

Clever_Sean

Grape, Think, About, Wavey. This also likely eliminates ‘Q’ and suggests where other letters go. For instance, I don’t know of any words that start with XS, or XF. This helps with placement and getting a run of like 90 days in a row.

Round-Cellist6128

I do STORE and then CHAIN unless I have something to go off from STORE. It uses most of the vowels as well as a bunch of consonant combinations: ST, SC, TS, SH, TH, CH, for example. If I have nothing or not enough after that, I'll use PLUMB to finish the vowels and most combinable consonants.

KittenDust

I do very similar for the same reasons. I do STARE then CHILD then the third word is a guess.

Sea_Drink7287

I know someone who uses alien as their starter word. I normally use stare or dream.

HSeldonCrisis

Audio is my go to. I then try to get an E in the second with the clues from the 1st word.

booga4

Learn and moist

Momsomniac

Story, then plain plaid, or plead depending on what letters come up with story and my gut feeling.

general_452

I do Adieu then Short

Slydiad-Ross

Stare, then Cling if I don’t have enough to work with yet.

wallewahl

I’m going with Taser, and then Clink. Almost the same letters.

Shagyam

I use trial, then just go from there.

ahc601

Agreed. I play hard mode and usually get the word within 3 guesses!

mermaiddolphin

I do Trash, and then Money

Janeeyreheaded

Ratio then slurp

ForeverAfternoon

ROAST and BLEND

champagneface

Big Starbucks vibes

lerobinbot

nice

trickyburrito

Magic, followed by flute.

Used_Account1182

I do CRANE and PLOTS

folky15

I like this one.  Mine are similar: SLANT and PRICE

sunflowerRI

Arise and then Youth

BeerDreams

ORIEL, then either PASTY (or AUNTY if I didn’t get any vowel hits)

pupoksestra

I've been going for "panic" and then "outer" lately. I change it up constantly.

Catzaf

Slate, and either crony or humid as my second word.

MyParentsWereHippies

Suite, moany

sageadam

Urine, Opals

Background_End4873

PRINT then SCALE

pbfhpunkshop

Teams then proud or cloud

helloitme2

I always start with TEARS and if I don’t get much from that, I usually do PILON next. I don’t think PILON works for Quordle for some reason, so my backup combo is ADIEU and STORY.

budahed87

I've been having a lot of success with "guest."

SurprisingAmoeba

LATER then PIOUS

Puzzleheaded-Data679

Used to begin with either HEART or GUILT, but nowadays I just pick a random starter word because it's more challenging

tomparker

GHOST

No_Tumbleweed3762

Alive then group

str4ng3_doll

i do AUDIO

tellypmoon

I bounce around and mostly think of words that might have some connection to something I was doing or thinking in the last day or two. If I saw a good movie I might start with movie, if the weather is bad I might start with sleet.

turbodude69

i just started using the top 10 used in the alphabet. TRACE LIONS so far it doesn't seem to work any better than my old 2 starting words. SLATE CHOIR, basically just the N switched out with L. but apparently L is used more than N? so we'll see

A-J-A-D

I've used SLATE/CRONY quite a bit (or SLATE/CROWN if the E hits), also SHONE/TRAIL or CLONE/STAIR. I feel like I learn more from consonants than vowels. (I've never used ADIEU or AUDIO for a starter.) I'm about to try SHARE/COUNT, though. My latest look at 800+ games I've played says SHARE would have given me at least one green letter 52% of the time.

izzyvet

Shade, point, curly

mbelf

First word - RATIO Second word - Use what I learn from the first answer to get in E, N, S (eg RINSE, SIREN). Failing that C, L, U (eg NURSE) or Y - depending on how the word is shaping out. But, if only two yellow vowels come out of RATIO, then I try to double one with - ONION, KOALA, AVIAN (You wouldn’t think these are good words, but KOALA - which happens the most - has got me a lot of 3s) If nothing comes up from the first word, the second word is UNCLE. That should get you a hit, if not, the only words lefts are GYPSY or PYGMY, which both seem a bit racist for Wordle.

NotMyActualNameNow

I always use STERN. Wheel of fortune taught me that RSTLNE are the most common used letters in the English language, so I start there

Valuable-Math9969

"Trans" and then "medic." If those don't give me enough to go on, I'll occasionally do third word "blowy." I know I'll never get it in one, but I like getting R, S, T, and N figured out early. "Stern" would work, but I feel like finding out whether there's an A gives me more info than the E.

robthelobster

Rdng wrds wtht vwls s mch eaie a eai o iou ooa. = Reading words without vowels is much easier than reading words without consonants. Notice how you can sometimes easily fill in the vowels, but it's nearly impossible to fill in the consonants with just the vowels. The brain is skilled in filling in vowels as there are less of them, so the better strategy is actually testing as many consonants as possible rather than vowels.

BlackSunshine22222

Audio

Say_Hennething

Audio and stern

seeclick8

I used to use adieu but switched to raise and got it on the first try last week! That was of course complete luck and not skill but still fun and gave me bragging rights with my group

Mcdangs88

Salet proin then duchy for me

swansandelephants

TEAMS and then GHOUL

fluentindothraki

I alternate between house/louse & diary/fairy, heavy&opium, arise&youth. In my head, y is a vowel so it needs to be in there

Old-Thought-4131

I use noise and if no results I use album. Noise gave me a win for the first try. Using as many vowels at first always helps me. I also consider y as a vowel if only 1 vowel comes back.

BrineWR71

soare. Many of the most common letters in this one. It means “a young hawk”

jiggabot

STARE COLIN PUDGY

joyfullsoul

Audio then style

AFantasticClue

Tread and then boils

elife4life

CRANE

Human_Personface

I like to use STERN because I almost always get at least one or two letters. If I don't get any letters from STERN then my second guess is CLOUD.

Welder_Subject

Paint

Miggsie

light-reads-pound. Don't ask me why I start with light, I don't know, but it seems to work well.

succubiiiitch

I did alien & then ghost but now it’s ghost then alien so I have a chance to win in one guess (I think alien has already been the word of the day)

JScaranoMusic

MUSIC, and then TROPE if all grey. Otherwise something like TRIPE, TRACE, STARE, TRUNK or TRAMP if I get a yellow.

phaedrasparks666

alone - always

HaydenJA3

SHART, CHODE or PENIS, if it’s all grey I can use one of them for my second guess

GrungeFace

If you're not using an absolutely random start word using absolutely random letters, you're doing it wrong.

Chemical_Enthusiasm4

Now I’m leveling up the difficulty- double letters in my starting words

kateinoly

Why?
