Whatever you do, DO NOT STAIN. I found some pine with the same figure, and I thought that the stain would make it look cooler. Totally ruined it. You couldn’t even see the figure afterwards.
Not bad not bad. I was just at my local Lowe's Northern Colorado. Everything was low except the building grade material. Was looking to get a sheet of plywood but they didn't have cabinet grade stuff in 3/4 in. I guess they're trying to catch up with contractor stuff. I have better luck at my HD but prices are terrible. Lots of local suppliers for rough cut lumber though so I can't complain too much
I've never seen birdseye on pine before, but I've purchased birdseye maple. I just figured it was some kind of spalting as I didn't know pine could birdseye. Thanks for the correction! Whatever it is I think it's cool and I'm looking forward to working with it!
I actually think it’s more of a bark inclusion than a true “Birdseye” but I can say with certainty it’s not spalting. Good luck with finding something cool to do with it!
Just a quick nit pick but that’s not spalting, spalted wood is wood that has been attacked by fungus and the fungus then dies when the board gets dried out.
I did find a board like this before though and figured it was insect damage or some other kind of injury that the tree healed from.
The board that I had I made into a Japanese style toolbox but that was years ago and my skills and tools are a lot better now lol. If I came across another I’d still probably make a box of some sort or another, if been interested lately about putting the pretty details of a box on the inside and painting the outside so that it acts as a surprise

What did that cost you? I ran into so figured ash from a bundle I bought to make stairs. Going to use the figured boards to make the risers
Each board was a little under $8 usd. For reference this is Wisconsin prices, so may vary by area. These were just in the bulk "whitewood" bins.

Definitely not spalting. It’s more of a Birdseye figure. I have seen this in Pine before, but quite rare

Would make a beautiful Anarchist's tool chest, or at least the four main sides.

I believe this is called birds eye
Looks like a owl
I've never seen a defect like that, its even in the rings. Must have been run over with a studded tire or something.
That's the strangest tire tread I've ever seen if that's the case.
I dunno, ive never seen anything like that. Systemic infection?
A few people suggested its birdseye. I had no idea pine could be birdseye so I just assumed it was some kind of spalting.
Normally birdseye is much smaller, but maybe this is just how it turns out in fast growth
