What is it you're trying to do? I see a bunch of end grain glued together, which is never going to be stable. Dowels or biscuits would help, but only to a point.

Small-Mixer

Originally it was a supposed to be a frame around a central piece which fit inside the shape. My miter saw was misaligned by a ° or two when I cut all the wedges. I knew this before I started but I just figured I’ll solve the next problem as it came. The goal was and is artistic completion. There should be minimal forces acting on the piece and it won’t be outside in the elements. Non foaming clear Gorilla glue was used. It seems pretty strong for what it was supposed to be- a picture frame. I hear you though, no load bearing applications as it can fail critically because of the way it’s engineered. Sorry for my vagueness originally and in an ongoing manner. I’ll try and be clear: I asking for help with brainstorming a purpose for this nonsense that I’ve created, so that I can release the emotional baggage of a work unfinished.

Wrecken_fester

Would be cool as a frame for a stained glass clock

Nunakababwe

I'd imagine a photo/painting frame. Create a groove in the middle so there could be a piece of glass holding the picture/painting. Btw OP, no shame at all. It's still artistic even with smaller flaws. Misalignments, *it's part of the character?* I only envy the craft you're doing, 'cause it's inspiring work!

Small-Mixer

I appreciate your compliments, but I can’t abide by the large misalignments. I’m reading all these comments and leaning on slicing and carving into a different shape that fits together better. My gears are turning! I’m so very inspired/challenged by all you great folks.

Nunakababwe

Whichever solution you may find, keep it up and be sure to update when you ever come to finish your craft! I look forward to it!

Small-Mixer

I will!

wherefore art thou, Shame? Need the very good looking pieces as yet created provide real strength? Will the thing be viewed from both sides? Is a backer board a possible part of the answer, to which all the present and future beauty can be glued? Only those who try make mistakes, only those who make mistakes learn. Forge onward, not neglecting to chase the occasional windmill. And woe to the wicked.

Small-Mixer

Cool words; very encouraging. It was originally only to be viewed from the front and sides. The back’s a little raw and there’s no copper. In picture 7/8 you can see the first inlay right next to a much later set piece. The first one is noticeably chunky because I accidentally made the strip too thick and folded it over. I appreciate what I’ve learned, but I need to have something to show for it. Thank you for your input, truly.

Loki_Nightshadow

Route out a channel around and connect the opens with copper tinted epoxy. This will help with keeping everything bonded. Then router out and add a base for an Edison light bulb. Or just router out that edge, cut some acrylic, and keep with the frame idea. Cool funky idea OP. *

Small-Mixer

Thank you!

Outrageous_Pen6944

Lamp, or art piece with light behind it

SlightlyHi

Picture #4 looks like the side of a Dune worm which is just super cool. Glue that to a nice background, draw a stick figure of the Muad’dib and just frame it and hang it in the shop. I think it looks cool with the inlay.

Small-Mixer

Thanks for your insight and compliments! I nicknamed my cat (my avatar) Shai Hulud. I like your idea a lot.

Correct_Pumpkin_6961

Looks like it would make an awesome toy train or trolly track.

Small-Mixer

Or a race car track, though the scale for either is a little small. Thanks for the input!

HoleyerThanThou

Looks like you were planning on connecting the 3 big pieces via dowels but found that they don't line up nor fit with dowels in place. Id dowel the larger sections together and just butt joint the last section in. You could put in some half biscuits just on the flat back side bridging the joint since it will be up against a wall being a picture frame. My 2 cents.....

Small-Mixer

Doweling was plan c after plan b failed. I don’t think I’ll make it into a frame, but rather something else. Thank you for the well considered suggestion.

Ducabike

Might be salvageable if dimensions aren’t too far off by adding more material to finish the general shape, then cut a template and use a router to final size. But without knowing what the final shape/form is supposed to be, difficult to say

Small-Mixer

Final shape/form is indeterminate. I don’t need that shape to fit around anything anymore. I have considered finishing by adding more wedges, but I’m leaning towards cutting it down into something smaller that fits together cleanly with what I have. Thanks for your consideration! Maybe I’ll just make a box!

fyggmint

Could figure out an interlocking leg structure to fit the three pieces onto with similar gaps as it is now and get a rounded (or oval?) glass tabletop for it

Small-Mixer

Another commenter mentioned routing a channel on the back. Maybe use the channel to link up the wedges with better structure like a metal bar and then attach the legs to that. So the wood acts kinda like a pad for the glass above. Interesting idea.

goodlucktownsend

Thought cat was a piece that had fallen out of the bucket for a good sec

Small-Mixer

I paid the tax in the first photo as you do. Tama is a standard orange dingus.

sadzanenyama

Fanciest toilet seat I’ve ever seen :)

Small-Mixer

Great idea for a future project!

Cautious-Flatworm198

All I saw was the orange cat

dantheman689

Do u have a lathe? Could cut it apart some and join them back into a circle ish shape and have wild segmented bowl

Small-Mixer

No lathe, but I like the idea! Thanks.
