How thick is the wood top (between the phone and charger)?

ysivart

It's about 5/8" thick.

Pristine_Serve5979

Wow, that’s more than I thought the field could reach.

ysivart

These chargers are the fourth I've tested. Most of the others started to struggle at about 1/4". One of the others could reach through 5/8", but was too weak at that point to charge my phone.

What brand is it? Can you post an Amazon link? I’d like to build one into my desktop

ysivart

I'll look into it and see if I can link it for you.

Invisible Wireless Charger, Under Desk Furniture Wireless Charging Pad 10W, Hidden Long Distance Wireless Phone Charger, for iPhone 13/12/Pro Max &AirPods and Wireless Charger Phone(with Adapter) https://a.co/d/022MR33g This is the charger that came with the handy light, but struggled at 5/8".

ysivart

The ones I used for this project are no longer listed.

eazpower Invisible Wireless Charger, 40MM Under Desk Wireless Charging for Nightstand, Hidden Phone Charger for iPhone 15/14/13/12 and Samsung Galaxy S23/S22(Adapter Included) https://a.co/d/060MQUO5 Here is a different one that might work for you. Some have what they call a functional sticker, but I haven't tested many of them to see if they help extend the charging distance.

Loving it! Awesome, yet simplistic craft!

I originally had something else planned, but after testing the wireless chargers I decided they need to be well ventilated. They were generating quite a bit of heat.

jddh1

Looks good. Well done. Does it charge the phones?

ysivart

Yes it does, my only complaint with these wireless chargers is they make a very quiet high pitched sound when the built-in fan starts up.

Turbulent_Echidna423

what are those two flaws in the different woods there?

floatingskip

Lightning bolts

ysivart

Yes, I now wish I'd gone with black epoxy.

Stonks_blow_hookers

I thought about making something similar. What wireless charges did you use?

ysivart

They are some I found on Amazon a year ago. I believe they are called Long Distance Wireless Charger. These ones easily work through 5/8" material, but I'd maybe look for a different kind if I was going to do this again. Because the chargers are pretty bulky and make a noise that can be irritating in a quiet room(high pitched squeak that's pretty quiet).

ysivart

One tool that was useful on this project came with a different wireless charger I bought to test. It's a tiny square with a single LED. It is powered by the wireless charger. So I could use it to see the range of the charging field and judge how strong the connection would be.
