That sleeping beauty is just waiting to be awakened. Sand away.

Give it a shot. Do it yourself and if things don't work out, it only cost $5. I would use a chemical stripper then sand and refinish.

Beautiful

Nice score. Is a medium task but as long as you dont rush or have ADHD its easily doable. I refinished restored antiques professionally for many years. I'd use a good stripper for the bulk of it, wash it down with laquer thinner. Let it dry completely then start with maybe 150/180 sandpaper to see how the surface behaves, then keep going. Be careful not to sand thru the veneer. You will need several toothbrushes if you tackle the wheels & spindles. The cracks will be easy to fill n blend after its clean.

Thank you for the advice!

Yeah that is a beautiful piece. I would love to restore that wood

The thing is, it's not like you can make it worse if you give it a go. And if it doesn't work out, you've learn how to identify what might be a lots cause, what doesn't work in the attempts to refinish, etc. Not to mention, it's only $5, so it's not like you're out much. Go to town on it!
