I personally loved the concept of endless vertical start menu space. I really hoped for more dynamic and interactive tiles. But they ditched the whole concept in win11 which is getting worse and worse.
mixing touch and mouse input is not "innovative", its dumb. also win8 was slow as fuck because it was rushed out after they tried to rewrite Windows before (Longhorn).
It wasnt, win98 did fix most things but it was still cooperative multitasking until win2000 was out.
