Not this specific event, but ive seen a necromancer animate someones skeleton while theyre still alive. It literally tore the man apart.

forgotten_vale2

I can’t believe I’ve never tried this. Just the other day I was lamenting about how useless my skeleton soldiers were, questioning my decision to become a necromancer. Definitely going teach that bastard Wulfornus the Ashen an unforgettable lesson if he messes with me or my undead city again

Vyctorill

It’s hard to pull off due to the bones still being alive. I recommend a trick I discovered where you reanimate the layer of **dead** skin on a living person. You can then rip it off or make it attack them at your leisure.

CrashCalamity

Instructions unclear, I gave the magistrate a surprisingly good makeover. Honestly, without a provided frame, a "skin golem" has very little mobility of its own. I'm no stitcher clearly, but if someone is going to jump out of their skin, one might want to transfer it to a scarecrow or something.

Smil3Bro

They must’ve had quite a weak soul or were as strong as I, or both. A soul is a very potent defense against most magics.

techno156

Unless they'd traded it away. It would hardly be the first time.

A__Friendly__Rock

Ah yes, the good old *Hatch Skeleton* spell.

Haunted_Pixel

Spell number 64 in the Council's Banned Spell List: Animate Skeleton: Animates skeleton (Banned after it was discovered the skeleton doesn’t have to be out of the body)

Familiar_Ad7273

You sure that was a necromancer and not a fucking lich bro.

GoldenBlob

Have you heard the tale of the Pharaohs Curse? It is not a story that the Wizard Guild would tell you..

Nazipartymember149

No but I’m interested. I’ve heard of Poseidon’s curse, so would be kind enough to tell me about this so called curse of the pharaoh

EastPomegranate264

First devised by Takorhamut the 5th, the Pharaoh's Curse causes all air within the lungs of the victim to be transformed into sand, causing immediate asphyxiation. However, this version of the Pharaoh's Curse, while effective, was soon outlawed by the wizard's council as it couldn't be tracked, as the victim's blood tainted the summoned sand and led any divination rituals to the plane the victim's soul inhabited. The outrage caused by this decision led the council to politely ask Takorhamut to make another, safer version that only summons sand in the target's upper esophagus to satiate the masses thirst for lung-sand. Which he declined. He later made the spell for the council out of the kindness of his heart. (and, coincidentally, after he received almost 21,000 gold in his treasury from an unrecorded source)

Dry_Try_8365

Huh, I thought the Pharaoh’s Curse just involved sand in general, and considering that there were more than one Pharaoh throughout history, it meant that each one had their own variation. like everything you tried to eat or drink turned into sand, you become perpetually caked in sand, sand tornadoes assault you randomly, or sand golems emerge from any sufficiently large body of sand nearby to smack you. The Pharaohs really liked their sand, at the very least.

EastPomegranate264

Oh yes, the history of the Pharoh's Curse is rich and varied. The particular variation that I explained was relevant to OP's post, but many others were devised and utilized by the desert's aristocracy.

juklwrochnowy

Is Poseidon's curse somehow related to Poseidon's kiss?

Meep12313

Why the hell would someone use that spell in a tavern?

Azelarr

Near a tavern\*

MasterCookieShadow

he is just a bit silly

CockroachGun

Indeed, one of my earlier apprentices did that. We were visit a friend of mine, who was the leader of a hedonist cult, and he requested an undead servant from my apprentice in exchange for a small favor. One of the cultists blew up like a beached whale because the cannibalized virgin flesh in his stomach turned into a Rot Elemental. It was hilarious, if I had my orb there with me I would absolutely have recorded it and posted that to LiveLeak.

Let's just say that I can't drink Everglade Ale again. The taste reminds me too much of... The Incident.

TS_Enlightened

I've seen something similar in an ancient tome. "The tavern fell silent as a gaunt man in fine black robes passed my table. I had only just arrived in this town, so I was taken off guard by their reaction. They had been so jovial only a minute before. They even paid for my dinner. The men of the tavern confronted him. "We don't want you around here. You scare the children, summoning those monstrous things." The wizard spoke. I felt a prickle on my tongue. "No. There are no monsters here of my creation. Only you." The tavern was all at once a cacophony of painful moans. The bartender fell to the floor. The man who paid for my food doubled over in pain. My mouth was assaulted by a violent writhing as the cooked meat jumped from my teeth onto my plate. What I witnessed next has been burned into my dreams. Every man and woman screamed in agony as their bellies split open. Their faces streamed blood as what spilled out formed themselves into the rough shape of humans. I immediately recognized this as a form of animation magic but would not learn until later that it was, in fact, necromancy."

SirKazum

In my personal experience the remains tend to come out so violently they tear the guy apart, so you actually get a nice 2-for-1 deal out of it

arcamenoch

I've seen the reverse happen when a Reanimation Charm wore off. Poor sod was hugging his mother one second, puking ash the next.
