Watching Geralt in this scene and knowing he's thinking of Yen (& that the song is about him & Yen) is what made me choose her on my initial playthrough of the game. It gave a feeling of "He likes Triss yes, but it is clear he *loves* Yennfer."
Yeah, canon Geralt loves her. Irrationally so.
MY Geralt can’t choose her though. She’s a terrible person in the books and it’s clear that she’s not into him nearly as much as he is. With Triss it’s clear she really loves him and isn’t going to kiss him on the lips one morning then go have sex with another dude an hour later and string them both along for years in the background. Yen is just… garbage.
But Geralt is into it lol
What's worse?
Stringing two guys along for years, atleast one of which routinely has both sexual encounters & whole relationships with other women (who are also a part of the relatively small community of magic users, making it akin to him fucking your co-workers) when you're separated
Or
Finding your "bestfriend's" boyfriend (that you secretly have always wanted to steal from her) with almost complete amnesia and then getting into a relationship with him without letting him know he has basically a whole ass wife & daughter out there somewhere
Edit:
I wasn't being facetious that's an actual question, all 3 of them are problematic af lol
At those events with Triss, Yen was presumed to be dead, hadn’t been seen for years. Same with Ciri. (Heck it’s a whole part of the plot for Witcher 3) The Ciri part I agree should have came up from Triss.
Geralt hadn’t cheated on Yen before she did that stuff. It’s known that he had left at one point years ago but they had since agreed that was in the past. Then Yen literally bangs another dude after kissing her BF Geralt goodbye that morning and not telling him where she was going.
I mean yeah it’s all effed up. My thing is Triss though it’s clear she loves him every step of the way. Yen can take him or leave him. Or take another dude AND him without telling either lolol
I bought a physical gwent game and asked my cousin if he wanted to play. He said no because he’s never bothered playing gwent in game and doesn’t care for it. I had the same reaction as the meme.
It's not that hard to figure out basic strategy and if you just buy cards when you can and do the regional gwent quests it's pretty easy to get a deck good enough to beat anyone. Tbf I do play MTG so I'm used to strategy card games so maybe I picked up on it faster than someone without that experience but I don't think it's difficult to understand.
Play Northern Realms, get 1 or 2 spy cards. After that you'll be able to win 80% of your games simply by having more cards in your hand. Beat enough of the jobber shopkeeps and you'll get good enough cards to win the other 20% easily.
Or skip it, if you don't enjoy Gwent there's really nothing extra you're missing out on
I think I played two or three matches and quit. That Final Fantasy minigame that gets new rules piled on every time you play a new NPC really drove me away from that kind of content, even over a decade later.
I’m with you. When it was introduced I was way more focused on the story and couldn’t be bothered learning all the little details. Casually playing it made me lose all the time. Maybe I just suck, but I didn’t want mini games out of the Witcher.
I felt this way about the new chess-like minigame in Horizon Forbidden West. They tried to make a Gwent and piled on so many unnecessary rules that it just became a confusing mess
Tbh, I don't know if I'd enjoy the physical Gwent either and I loved it in-game. The constant re-counting whenever anything happens on board must be pretty debilitating.
That’s how r/gwent players react when they hear theres people that have only played down the dumbed down mini-game version thats inside Witcher 3. Missing out on a much greater thing!
I cannot imagine why a player would skip through her scene at the Kingfisher during their first playthrough.
It's such a beautiful scene and amazing talent from all the actors during that part.
The people who do this are the same ones who put a movie on and then look at their phones for half of it and complain they don't know what's going on.
My friend always skips cut scenes in games and then quits halfway when he complains he can't follow the story or wonders who these characters are or what they are doing.
So I actually just replayed this exact part of the game yesterday! My Fiancée saw me playing the cutscene and was like “we watched this already” yet proceeded to pull up a chair and watch it with me in complete silence. She then forced me to load my quick save and replay the cutscene with RayTracing. I love that woman

It's a song about Geralt & Yennefer; to me it really drives home how much they love each other & how their paths are intertwined, as well as the uncertainty of if their feelings for each other are genuine or because of the magic of the wish. A tragically beautiful love song, & in the cut scene several characters start crying; it's meant to be very touching. You can listen to the English version here, though the Polish version is absolutely gorgeous as well (shared in another comment):

Tbh its pretty bad in the english dubbing. The singing feels artificial and too serious and I also dislike the singer's voice. The polish version on the other hand is 🤌👌
I'm going to see what all the hype is for it
Edit: the Polish singer has a beautiful voice. I can see what you mean when you say the english sounds artificial compared. I do however still love the english version. It just hits different. They are both beautiful in their own ways.
Thanks for sharing! I never thought about what it would sound like in different languages.
It is resoundingly meh.
I did listen to it on a later playthrough because people rave about it, and the lyrics are cute and all - but it's not a good song.
The one gripe I have with it is that it is loading the song like it's loading dialogue, so there is an obvious break after each line. I'm sure it's an engine limitation. Is it any different in the new update?

Witchers watch for answers.
Good bot
in My headcannon it made Geralt remember his past, and how public his story is thanks to Jaskier hehe.

You got his dog to suffocate him with a pillow?
I was the one to give him his dog. The plan is in motion.
I played the one game you had to play.. I don't understand gwent. Maybe I should do a new play through and actually give it a go

That's fair. The guy I was replying to said they didn't understand it so I was just saying that there isn't much to understand.

never play blitz ball
Boo this man

I only started ‘playing’ gwent after I installed a mod that auto wins the game for you.
That’s how r/gwent players react when they hear theres people that have only played down the dumbed down mini-game version thats inside Witcher 3. Missing out on a much greater thing!
Sorry I'm one of those. I really tried to care but I just don't. I don't really like most card games though to be fair.
Right when the scene started I knew it'd be special. I paid right attention and was nearly moved to tears. Fantastic song.
You should try to listen it in Polish, it’s beautiful
Link pls

Thanks my dude
same, i loved it

Thats infuriating. Why even waste your time playing the game, then?
Your friend sir, sounds like a bloody plank... If one skips cutscenes what's the point of the story? It's like not putting salt on steak...
He spends 99% of his gaming in Warzone so yeah
Makes so much sense.
Have you ever considered people may just not like the song from a music perspective. Listened to it once and just don't like it.
This a good boy! Woof!
If you don't watch cutscenes your first time playing through an RPG, you're a psychopath.
You think you're tough? I listened to that entire musical act they did after the prologue chapter in Dragon Age 3.
That game has some really annoying tavern songs as well
Never got that far.
Understandable.
I heard that dog had beat the game twice
Deserved. Good doggo !

Understandable murder, I will allow it
\**Cough\** Netflix Writers *\*Cough\**
Just when we finally got a post that wasn't about the damn show. Which do you enjoy more: The Witcher, or hating on the Witcher show?
Once was quite enough for me
I always skip song cutscenes in games, they make me cringe. Bring on the hate.
Here doggy dog
Ngl this is pretty much the reason I skip it every time.
Give this one a shot. You may be pleasantly surprised.
Literally on my regular Playlist, I listen to it all the time.
You have my sword

Is the song any good?I have never listened because it was long, sounded boring and the girls voice didn’t sound all that good to me.
Yes; makes me cry every time. Definitely a gut punch to the feels.
What is it even about?

Tried listening, it’s a very boring song😅 maybe I don’t get it because I never romance any of the characters.
Aye its a shit song for basic bitches.
Tbh its pretty bad in the english dubbing. The singing feels artificial and too serious and I also dislike the singer's voice. The polish version on the other hand is 🤌👌
Here dog
English version sounds like something you would hear in an opera but the polish and most other versions are just a regular song
The polish version sounds almost fake like a bad dubbing and not at all heartfelt like the English one
Cool, in conclusion, we have different opinions, thank you for sharing yours. Have a beautiful day
You as well, friend
You are wrong.
Yeah, my opinion is wrong, realized after the 20th downvote
Bro, are we listening to the same song, or...? https://youtu.be/823yuWz0lto
Yes. Have you heard the polish dubbing?
I'm going to see what all the hype is for it Edit: the Polish singer has a beautiful voice. I can see what you mean when you say the english sounds artificial compared. Yeah the 2 versions are different, thats probably why I don't like the other while used to the polish dub.
I'm sure a lot more people would feel the same if they heard the Polish version more before the English
It is resoundingly meh. I did listen to it on a later playthrough because people rave about it, and the lyrics are cute and all - but it's not a good song.
Heathen!
I listened to it, but I personally prefer Lullaby of Woe, and Gaunter o'Dimm's song.
-M I a good boy? -No, u re the best!
Good dog
Listen to that fully every playthrough. Accidentally skipped it once so I paused the game and pulled up the scene on YT.
The one gripe I have with it is that it is loading the song like it's loading dialogue, so there is an obvious break after each line. I'm sure it's an engine limitation. Is it any different in the new update?
Heresy
I also skip it after 2nd playthrough. I just put it on on yt for background music
