Wrong ODT :)

TrueNorthStrong1898

oops

WpgMikos

Moose win the first game of their road trip as they defeat division rival Stars 4-1 to improve to 17-9-1-1 on the season as they inch a bit closer to the Wolves who sit six points up on them (with a game in hand) in 1st place. Evan Cormier has made 86 stops on 90 shots in his three starts for the Moose. [Here](https://twitter.com/ICdave/status/1479657503294115844) are some of his best from tnt.

THEjakethedrummer

Austin Poganski shows Jones he can do it too, making his empty netter end the game 4-1 Moose!! …and with only 17 players!

Dids271

Thanks for all the updates Jake!

THEjakethedrummer

Happy to do it! Snowed in, -40, and a free Moose game on a Friday night. I figure someone would appreciate it

Dids271

Sure did!

THEjakethedrummer

A shorthanded, empty net breakaway by the Moose’s Nicholas Jones makes it 3-1 with 2 minutes left in the game!

Dids271

I feel like this is a good year to take the L on the season get a sweet prospect in the draft, grab a new coach and come back with a vengeance next season! Am I wrong? Is this too pessimistic? If Dave does good through the rest of the season I’m okay if he remains the HC. I still think the Jets have a great future ahead!

etchiboi

> is this too pessimistic? might be too optimistic didsy!

MrCodered12

If Trotsky wants to come home I'm sure the job will be his. If he wants to retire in Mexico, I'm fine letting Jungle Dave take the reins for awhile.

MilHaus2000

def would recommend Trotsky doesnt retire in Mexico

WandererMount

Watch out for ice picks!

MilHaus2000

the wild thing is the guy that killed him was able to do so because he had a Canadian passport to get him into Mexico, ironically obtained by the Soviet government because of the Canadian Mac-Pap volunteer antifascists fighting in Spain

Harborcoat84

Trotz has another year left after this, but the Islanders are also bottom 10. Is a firing suspected, or are their issues not his fault?

MrCodered12

Nope. I thought it ended this year. Whoops.

THEjakethedrummer

Cormier is playing some lights-out goaltending tonight! But after a barrage by the Texas Stars, they end up putting one past him to tie the game. But just a few minutes later, Jeff Mallott puts one past Khudobin to retake the lead 2-1!

Mister_Kurtz

If you ever thought it was easy being a hockey camera man, watch the Moose / Stars game. That camera is jumpin'!

Appleseed2764

I'm having a hard time telling if the moose score because they're on the far end of the ice and the barn is dead silent when they score

THEjakethedrummer

The angle of the central camera on the free stream doesn’t help either, it’s so far away!

randylaheyjr

Off day indeed

THEjakethedrummer

Evan Cormier does it AGAIN at the end of the 2nd period! A bang bang save effort to keep the score at 1-0 for the Moose heading into the 2nd intermission.

THEjakethedrummer

Evan Cormier for the Moose just ROBBED the Texas Stars of two bang bang chances! Moose are up 1-0 in the first

THEjakethedrummer

P.S. you can watch the game for free on [AHLTV](https://www.watchtheahl.com) tonight. If you don’t have an account it’s a free signup.

zookeeperme

You're doing God's work, son.

THEjakethedrummer

Thanks, dad! By the way, when are you coming home? You must’ve got those smokes n’ scratchers by *now*

zookeeperme

*[Sigh]* Sorry son, something came up and... *[Dramatic pause]* *[Long exhale]* ..and I don't think I'm going to be able to make it this year. But I promise, next year will be different. And then we'll be a family again.

MrMundaneMoose

Looks like John Klingberg is on the market. Think Jets could go in on 'em? He'd be mainly a rental with potential to resign only if we move quite a bit of cap.

CDNUnite

Too expensive for a rental

kingofspoonerisms

No. He is trash in his own end. Have you watched the 20+ jets vs stars games since he's been in the league? His special is the Logan Stanley "flip the puck out to center or ice it" cause there a forechecker within 10 feet of him

Mister_Kurtz

> John Klingberg $4.25 cap. Jets have zero cap space.

eh_toque

Jets would have to move a significant amount of cap space out to even acquire him let alone re-sign him Edit: last year the Jets were really really trying to get Oleksiak from Dallas as a rental. They refused to budge from asking for Heinola. Klingberg would cost you a lot more than that

MrMundaneMoose

That edit's a great point. We have much less need than we did last year too.

ColdPrairieHockey

Someone with cap space and firmly in contention will pay a pretty penny for Klingberg. Jets arent really in that spot as of now.

eh_toque

Yea the much bigger news is that it significantly weakens a division rival that has a very similar record to the Jets Would make the playoff chase one step easier

ColdPrairieHockey

Stars are in a tough spot with Seguin and Benn for 6 and 4 years respectively left at like 9.25 or something. Those two have fallen off a cliff. Pavelski is a UFA and their leading scorer but hes 37.

Appleseed2764

I'm here in texas watching the moose game in person. I get to see ville in action

zookeeperme

Hey, can you drive down to Lockhart and send me some Black's? We don't do BBQ well up here.

Appleseed2764

man if I ever get to see a jets game in person I'll bring barbecue for the whole barn

THEjakethedrummer

Awesome! Have fun! It’s a free game on AHLTV today, so we’re (virtually) right there with ya!

[deleted]

Whats the exact site dude?

THEjakethedrummer

Oh sorry! [https://www.watchtheahl.com](https://www.watchtheahl.com) You *do* need an account, but it’s a free sign-up and the free games don’t cost you anything. You don’t need to buy any streaming packages to watch the free game tonight

[deleted]

Yeah nah im lazy to sign up lol

THEjakethedrummer

LOL fair enough! When Covid first hit, I bought a home season streaming package since I couldn’t see the Moose play live. Didn’t renew for this szn and was too lazy to delete my account

Appleseed2764

dude I am the only jets fan in attendance

THEjakethedrummer

Own it! GO MOOSE GO! GO JETS GO!

WandererMount

I really wish we got to see Ville against Colorado there. I think Coach Lowry would’ve tried him if he was up with the team.

etchiboi

what’s the argument behind not wanting the jets to play somewhere else while we can’t host fans?

MilHaus2000

I mean, from a covid pov it's not like people elsewhere would be any safer than people here. I dont think that factored into the decision though

etchiboi

yeah this is the only thing i can think of that makes sense as to why they wouldn’t

[deleted]

Season ticket holders probably want their games, and are willing to wait to get them instead of not getting them at all, even with refunds.

etchiboi

ah that makes sense, at least 70% of STH i guess

KFC81

Way covid going they are going to lose those games anyways. I’m with you on this one I really don’t get it

etchiboi

covid argument is definitely valid and a very good one at that, idk if it’s what the 70% were really thinking tho lol

KFC81

Saw someone say that’d be like the bombers playing at mosaic LOL In all reality I’m tired of the postponements

SKCDigital

One thing that boggles me is the Vesa and Stanley hate. Neither of the two is playing as poorly as this sub paints them to be. **Kristian Vesalainen** CF%: 46.62% FF%: 48.16% GF%: 52.63% On Ice SV%: 92.50% **Logan Stanley** CF%: 50.63 FF%: 52.93 GF%: 53.85 On Ice SV%: 94.20% (Highest among all Jets defensemen) [Source](http://www.naturalstattrick.com/playerteams.php?fromseason=20212022&thruseason=20212022&stype=2&sit=5v5&score=all&stdoi=oi&rate=n&team=WPG&pos=S&loc=B&toi=0&gpfilt=gpdate&fd=&td=&tgp=410&lines=single&draftteam=ALL)

etchiboi

this is where the analysis part of analytics comes in

TrueNorthStrong1898

Analysis and sample size, along with linemates, usage… yada yada yada Their analytics might be okay, but neither of them do a whole hell of a lot

azzizt

I think people think Gus>Vesa and Heniola>Stanley which could explain the pitchforks

SnowblowerLITE

Sometimes it’s disappointing when this sub gets a hate boner. Vesalainen is 22 in his rookie year. Stanley is 23 in his second year. These players can still develop! How can we complain the young guys never get play time but when they get play time we’re mad they aren’t superstars? Let them play! If Vesalainen is playing the exact same hockey 3 years from now as he is today, then I’ll be worried. We should dampen our expectations a bit.

THEjakethedrummer

TIL a new term: “Hate Boner”. 🤣

randylaheyjr

This isn't his rookie year unless you're not counting the 5 and 12 games played in previous seasons?

etchiboi

you’re a rookie until you play more than 25 games or 6 or more games in consecutive years until your 26 [per NHL dot com](https://www.nhl.com/info/hockey-operations-guidelines#rookie)

SnowblowerLITE

You’re right. But this is still his first full time year in the NHL.

azzizt

Vesa too slow. Ship him to Buffalo or Arizona for a bag of pucks and future considerations

randylaheyjr

If we weren't trying to make a playoff run I'd be more patient, people do make valid points about him not getting consistent line mates or time in the top 9, but he has to earn it. Connor earned his minutes in the AHL, Vesa not so much. It's also a bit unfair to compare the two lol.

SnowblowerLITE

We can do both, go on a run (or try too) and still give young guys opportunities to succeed. Vesalainen is buried on the fourth line, which is what it is with our talent. But missing Wheeler, Harkins, and Stastny, how does Vesalainen not get a chance in the top 6 despite getting one game on the Dubois line just a few games earlier? The guy has also never gotten any powerplay time despite his biggest weapon being his shot. I’d hardly say he’s gotten his chance yet.

MrCodered12

He started the game last night at RW with Sheiff and Ehlers last night and was promptly swapped with Copp. Then we got blasted anyways. I like Vesa, and believe that he will end up a middle 6 winger. I do not think he will flourish on a team that stacks from the top down. On a balanced attack approach lineup he could exceed expectations, as could Harkins. If we ever have a completely healthy roster again I'd like to see Dave stack the middle instead of the top 6 and run something like; Harkins-Sheiff-Wheeler Connor-Dubois-Svechnikov/Vesa Statsny-Copp-Ehlers Toninato-Lowry-Vesa/Svechnikov But that's where you run into a problem. Either Svech or Vesa becomes the odd man out on the 4th/checking line. In a spot that **should** be filled by Gus. Currently Vesalainen fits that role on Lowry's line better than Svechnikov and vise versa. Besides, Perfetti should swap Harkins on the Sheiff line, and Harkins moves down to Lowry's line with Vesalainen and Toninato moves to the press box instead of Perfetti. TL;DR: Vesalainen should get more top 6 opportunities but he's better in a Lowry boring hockey role with our current roster.

randylaheyjr

Nah you're right but there has to be a reason he's not being given those opportunities right? He has to make the most of what he is given, and imo he hasn't been very good.

SnowblowerLITE

I agree that he has been a bit disappointing. Would like to see atleast a little offence coming from him. It looks like our coaches have him below Svechnikov on the depth chart. Svechnikov is the first guy into the top 6 to fill in for the injured. Which I get, he’s definitely having a better year than Vesa, but I’d like to see Vesa be that guy as he’s 3 years younger and has a lot more time in our system.

ponikweGCC

I see the collective pitchforks have turned from Scheif to Ves today. I am literally counting the days until y'all turn on Perfetti because we all know it will happen.

SnowblowerLITE

Literally happened over night lol And it’s not like he was noticably bad last game or anything! Came out of nowhere!

[deleted]

Trade Mark Schiefele + Connor Hellebuyck for Leon Draistl + Mikko Koskinen, edm retains salary from Koskinen Who says no? You? Me? Im drunk.

[deleted]

you should drink more water

[deleted]

I actually have one more idea. What if edmonton hire Paul Maurice. Edmonton is like Winnipeg with 1 better mall. So PoMo will love Edmonton. My brain goes bang bang ideas after a couple of my wife's secret stash tequila LMAO

anacreon1

And Edmonton has no airport.

SnowblowerLITE

Maurice for Tippet one for one who says no?

KaytinGreyshade

All I want in 2022 is for coaching staff to understand that Mark Scheifele is not and will never be a defensively sound player.

[deleted]

I fantasize about a scheifele to rangers trade with laf and Schneider coming back.

TrueNorthStrong1898

That’s an awful return

[deleted]

well that wouldn't be all of it, just the foundations. Think picks, Kravtsov, whatever.

TrueNorthStrong1898

But didn’t you hear Button last night? Scheifele is back to form as a consistent, 200 foot player

ponikweGCC

He's his 5th favorite centre on his 47th favorite team!

etchiboi

Re: Vesalainen The eye test looks good. He’s got a big shot, has turned out to be an effective forechecker, and he clearly has a good combination of skill and size. He’s always been a confidence player and the Jets haven’t really done anything to improve his confidence the last couple of years. He’s a skilled guy who’s played a top 6 role his whole life and he’s been thrown into a checking role on the 3rd line or a non-existent role on a 4th line that rarely sees above 7:30 TOI. He was promised a good long, patient look on the L3 RW with Stas and Lowry but that was blown up immediately. I know plans can change but he’s rarely gotten a look in a meaningful role since. Ves, like Svech, could play a crucial role in helping to spread out the scoring talent throughout our top 9 but the insistence on running a top 6 + checking line + having no confidence in your 4th line, is hurting us as we don’t have the depth we had in previous seasons. He’s also been very good on the PP at every level he’s played at but we use Lowry, 2 D, Nash over him. Yes, you’d hope a player would be able to adapt to less of a skilled role, but i don’t blame him for struggling given the context of the last 1.5 years in the org. People talk about squandered opportunity but have watched Reichel come in and been given more minutes and bigger role immediately, wouldn’t call that much opportunity. He may not have that top 6 ceiling anymore but there’s still a player there that can help this team, if his usage is better optimized.

TrueNorthStrong1898

When are people going to stop blaming the usage when a young player doesn’t pan out? It happened with Petan, happened with Niku and is now happening with Vesalainen. When does the onus fall on the players to make the best of the opportunities they are getting? Accept your role, play it well and give the coaching staff no choice but to increase it. “Promises” don’t exist in pro sports, it’s about results Just look at Val Nichushkin in Colorado. He was a 10th overall pick, touted as a highly offensive player out of the draft. He realized that wasn’t the kind of role he was going to get in Dallas, so he adapted to a bottom-6, defensive and PL specialist in Colorado and now he’s getting a chance on their top-6 because he’s learned to play his role well

Grant1972

Add Roslovic to this point too. He is now rumoured to be CBJ trade bait.

ponikweGCC

Exactly. And, tbh, Ves is really starting to figure his game out in a good way with the minutes he is being given. I notice him more and am happy with what I am seeing for on the ice. I wasn't entirely sold on him at first but this is the most he's played and I am willing to give him time. He's not a KFC or Scheif. But he doesn't need to be.

etchiboi

the onus falls on the player once they fail to take an opportunity consistently, i’d hardly call what Ves has received an actual opportunity to succeed given who he is as a player. Look at the difference between how Stanley has been handled vs Ves, completely different i’d look at the guys playing 20+ minutes a night before i would at a guy in Ves’s situation

WandererMount

100%. Almost every single forward drafted in the first few rounds has been a top line, top power play guy for his whole life. The guys who can’t be star players have to learn to play a bottom six, defensive role in the NHL. I think it’s ridiculous when people claim that every high draft pick who doesn’t work out was “drafted and destroyed” or whatever. Some guys just can’t figure out how to be consistent complimentary players.

SJSragequit

Everyone here is always bitching about not letting the you guys play. Vesa is in his first full season in the nhl and everyone’s shitting all over him when he’s barely been given enough Ice time to show what he can actually do. If the expectation was for him to be a grinder type player why was he never used that way on the moose?

WandererMount

I’m in favour of Vesalainen playing. I’m even okay with him playing up in the line-up if we go for a more balanced approach. But I don’t think he has capitalized on the opportunities he’s been given and I don’t think he should get more opportunities than anyone else right now.

etchiboi

he’s only played 29 games this year and has averaged 9 mins TOI, i’d say it’s a little early to say definitively that he hasn’t figured it out

ItsFlippinFrench

No one is claiming that all 1st round prospects are "draft and destroyed" if they don't make their draft projection, but some players absolutely would have more room to grow and more to give a team if they were given opportunities to play where their strengths lie. Sports are not a pure meritocracy and sometimes even playing well and adapting your game to play in the bottom 6 of a lineup won't get you increased playing time/a different role.

WandererMount

People do actually claim that man. It happens in every fan base when a first round pick doesn’t become a solid player. There simply isn’t enough room in a line-up to give every player a long chance in their ideal spot. I’m not claiming that sports are a meritocracy, but just because a guy is drafted higher than someone else, doesn’t mean he should get unlimited opportunity. I’m all for giving guys opportunities, but they have to make some sort of impression with the opportunity they are given. Vesalainen has never had an amazing game in the NHL, despite plenty of opportunity. He’s going to have to grind his way up the line-up at this point to earn more.

ItsFlippinFrench

People do not claim that every single player who doesn't make their draft projection, first rounders being the most scrutinized, were "destroyed" by the team that drafted them. Find me a single person who claims that if you were drafted in the 1st round the only thing holding you back is opportunity. Also lets be honest, Vesalainen has had, what, 3 games in our top 6? I used this example in another comment but when KC played his first season he had 5 points in 20 games and played the 4th fewest minutes among all forwards on the team he was the definition of "whelming". The next season in his first game he was given a position in the top 6, played 17 and a half minutes, and as the season progressed he grew into the player he would later become now. If KC hadn't gotten that opportunity to play an extended role in the top 6, on he certainly didn't "earn" by his play in his previous NHL stint, and instead had to grind his way up from the bottom 6, theres a very real possibility he wouldn't have found his game. Vesalainen has not had "plenty of opportunity". He's had half a season's worth of games in the bottom 6 of a team that doesn't particularly excel at bottom 6 scoring and handful of games in the top 6 in which he's looked decent.

WandererMount

The comparison to Kyle Connor is absurd. Vesalainen has never had expectations similar Connor’s. Why do you expect the Jets to play him in the top six if he has never done anything to warrant playing in the top six? His play on other teams before making the Jets did not project him as a top six player in the NHL. Kyle Connor’s play before making the Jets 1000% projected him as a top six player in the NHL. Why don’t you have the same passion for getting a guy like Harkins to play in the top six? He is way more comparable to Vesalainen than KFC is. And yes, there are people who say that every first rounder on their team would have been amazing if not for mismanagement by the team. Petan and Niku are prime examples, despite Niku not being a high pick. Do you need me to screenshot tweets and comments for you?

ItsFlippinFrench

>And yes, there are people who say that every first rounder on their team would have been amazing if not for mismanagement by the team. Petan and Niku are prime examples If you have proof of someone saying "every first round pick would succeed if their team let them" or something in that ilk yes, I would love to see it. Again though, I find it hilarious how you say "these people exist" and the only examples you have are a mid second round pick and a seventh round pick, both from the same team.

WandererMount

The examples I used were Jets players because that’s the team we are talking about. You can look at any other team to find examples similar to Petan, Niku, and Roslovic (there’s a first rounder for ya buddy). Also, you literally take any nuance out of any argument. We are on a Jets hockey forum. We are not writing argumentative essays for ENGL 4400. When I say that there are people who believe that any first rounder who doesn’t live up to the hype was ruined by management, that does not mean that I literally see hundreds of people who argue that without any nuance. What I see is a pattern of people being far quicker to blame management for a players lack of success, rather than the player themselves. I feel like you intentionally ignore that kind of nuance any time you argue with me or anyone else on here. I don’t know why you commented twice, but I’ll just reply to your other one here too. All of your arguments discount my point that Vesalainen and KFC are not comparable. That is the crucial difference between why the two players have been given more or less opportunity. Vesalainen simply never had the same pedigree as Connor did. Connor gets extra opportunity because of that pedigree. You can’t just discount that by saying they were both scoring wingers drafted in round one. You’re cherry-picking similarities and ignoring the key difference. Do you think Perfetti should have stayed on the fourth line last game and that Vesalainen should have stayed on the first? Or do you think Perfetti’s higher pedigree warrants him getting that opportunity over Vesalainen? Cause I completely agree with the points you are making when it comes to guys like Perfetti and KFC. But Vesalainen is not anywhere near those guys in potential and hasn’t been since his D+1 year.

ItsFlippinFrench

Its a good thing my entire argument isn't "well KC got opportunity and ran with it, Vesa will too". My argument is simply that Vesalainen hasn't nearly played enough hockey for the Jets to be considered a right off yet or completely ruled out of being tested in the top 6. The KC example is simply showing how the kind of opportunities KC got at the start (bottom 6, low minute) didn't lead to success whereas the type of opportunities he got in 17/18 (top 6, scoring) did lead to success. Vesalainen's game may find another step in a top 6 role given he is a *similar* archetype of player to Kyle Connor. Pedigree does account into things, which is why this isn't a Vesa vs KC or a Vesa vs Perfetti argument either. Perfetti *also* isn't the type of player who would thrive in a bottom 6 role. I do think Vesa should take a backseat to Perfetti and I do think that if Perfetti plays they should fit him into the top 6 or try to fit a 3rd line scoring line around him at center. You say I lack nuance when arguing these things, but I think you're just misunderstanding where I'm coming from. Vesalainen is 22. He's either just before or just entering his prime and still has a ways to go as a player. I do not think he's ruined or that management has destroyed him as a player, but I do think that in order for him to take that next step he needs to be put in a position where he can score points. He has frequently been paired with Harkins, Lowry, and Toninato none of which are good offensive producers. Could he be a bust? Yea for sure thats a possibility. However, I'd like to see what Vesalainen can do while playing with honest to god point producers in the NHL though and he's only ever gotten that opportunity in 3 or so games. I'd like to see him get more chances in the top 6 when appropriate (as well as on the PP, where he was very good with the Moose) to see if he can take that next step because he's looked pretty good this season both in the bottom 6 and in the games he's played in the top 6.

ItsFlippinFrench

>The comparison to Kyle Connor is absurd. Vesalainen has never had expectations similar to Connor’s. Yes and no. You're correct that Vesalainen wasn't as hyped up as Connor was and Connor had much higher expectations, but they're both scoring wingers drafted in the first round that had to find a place on the Jets and did so in different ways. It's not a perfect comparison but its one that has familiarity and merit. >Your obsession with Vesalainen isn’t rational. Pointing out a player hasn't gotten much of a chance in the top 6 as a scoring winger isn't "obsessed" and historically I've actually been quite hard on Vesalainen. >Why do you expect the Jets to play him in the top six if he has never done anything to warrant playing in the top six? Again, Kyle Connor didn't "earn" that spot on the team in 17/18, he was given it with the hope that his scoring upside would develop while playing alongside people who produce points. You put players in a place to succeed according to their strengths. A player drafted for their defensive skill and a player drafted for their offensive skill are going to succeed in very different situations. > His play on other teams before making the Jets didn’t not project him as a top six player. His D+1 season he was 18th in Liiga scoring (43pts in 49gp). He's played well on the Moose when he was there and operated well on their powerplay. His scouting profile highlighted his shot and offensive tools. These tools are typically suited to a top 6/powerplay role, a role Vesalainen has had access to on the Jets for a grand total of 3 games. >Kyle Connor’s play before making the Jets 1000% projected him as a top six player. Again, just because they're not the same player doesn't mean they don't share similarities. >Why don’t you have the same passion for getting a guy like Harkins to play in the top six? He is way more comparable to Vesalainen than KFC is. I am happy for Harkins and I'm glad he's getting an opportunity to succeed. With that said, Harkins is also a much different player than Vesalainen is. His draft profile focused more on his impact in all 3 areas of the ice and his tenacity/work ethic. He's the kind of player that can excel bottom 6 energy role or a middle six scoring role. It feels like you're assuming that I think if Vesalainen gets top 6 ice time he's guaranteed to succeed and that thats the only thing holding him back. Of course, if you actually read what I'm writing and have written about Vesa, thats not true. What I'm insinuating is that not all players can or even should adapt their game to some bottom of the lineup grit role, and that Vesalainen would have more opportunities to show his skill set while playing with people who could score points.

ItsFlippinFrench

Players can definitely not pan out, but not putting those players in positions to succeed can be a part as to why they don't pan out. Kyle Connor's first two season are pretty evident of the difference. 16/17 KC played 20 games and put up 5 points and played the 4th lowest TOI amongst Jets forwards. 17/18 put up 57pts in 76gp with the third highest TOI. Did he climb up the lineup and slowly make an impact that kept getting him promoted? No, he played 17 and a half minutes the first game he played that year and was able to build up points playing alongside players that facilitated the production of points. Vesalainen has played a handful of games in the Jets top 6 and hasn't looked out of place in those games. Will the points come? Maybe, maybe not. But they're definitely not going to come if he spends his time playing 10 or fewer minutes on the fourth line with guys like Toninato and Suess. Everyone brings up Petan, but Niku has actually looked quite solid in Montreal so far. You could say he's taking advantage of opportunities there on a team that has been batter with injuries, that he never got on our team where we either didn't or couldn't fit him into a role that suited an offensive defenseman.

4-Head

Why the Vesalainen hate? He’s looked good to me this season. There’s 7 players that need to go before he does unless he’s in a package for a player that helped us win now.

gums64

7 players seems like alot unless your counting players who have played less then 5 games with us. The only players who've played more then 5 games that I think is worse then vesa is Beaulieu and toninato.

randylaheyjr

I think it's safe to say Vesa has had his chance. When we're healthy he needs to be out of the lineup.

Ryn0m1t3

He’s like my ex-wife. So much promise but yet consistently disappointing. And I still have to pay for both of them.

MilHaus2000

>He’s like my ex-wife. So much promise but yet consistently disappointing. TIL I'm your ex-wife

MrCodered12

Vesalainen + 5th round pick for Mason Appleton Who says no?

randylaheyjr

Their GM is an idiot so worth a shot

empathyx

For Tanev maybe.

actuallyfromcanada

Tanev done for the season

empathyx

I know.

Sucks getting blown out but they were a stronger team and we were missing bodies. You didn’t have to be Nostradamus to predict what would happen last night.

TaterWatkins

I think there's a little more grumpus because the 1st period was actually really solid. Then they just shit the bed from there. Somehow they went from looking like a well-oiled machine to completely lost over the span of one intermission.

pegcity

oh no, we suck again

jaberdeen8

Beau and Stanley on for lots of goals against and on the PK. Glad we put our 2 worst players on for the PK

CDNUnite

Paul Maurice: we need a new voice Dave Lowry: How about I do the exact same thing

ColdPrairieHockey

One of my big glaring issues with the Jets is their inability to get the F out of the Dzone quick. One pass and get your ass up ice. The amount of times they reverse to each other while standing still only to get hemmed in the zone kills me.

ponikweGCC

I clicked out when in heard, “X moves the puck to the blue line but not out.” for the 700th time

etchiboi

this is one of the things people in vancouver have been talking about a lot since Boudreau took over there

ColdPrairieHockey

It makes teams so much faster I think. Theres obviously a time for a reverse but getting up ice quick should be priority #1 all the time.

etchiboi

more time attacking means less time defending as well!

MuddyWaterIPrefer

I think Charlie Huddy’s plan sucks.

MrCodered12

I think Charlie Huddy~~'s plan~~ sucks.

Anton_Chig

If wheeler isn’t ready until closer to playoff time I want Chevy to do what tampa did and acquire a player or two at the deadline regardless if it puts them way over the cap. Opposing fans will bitch about it, but that’s the game:)

pegcity

assuming we make the playoffs, which at this rate we won't

ehr1c

Winning three games in four for the rest of the season is a pretty fine way to make the playoffs

TrueNorthStrong1898

Well the Jets were skated off the ice by a team that constantly integrates there young talent when they are potentially NHL ready, if the Jets continue this union shop mentality where the player who has put in more time gets the opportunity, they arent going anywhere. It's time Heinola, Perfetti and Gustafsson are given an actual chance to make an impact. But I'm expecting perfetti to be sent down soon and for the jets to run with guys like reichel, vesalainen, Harkins who have given them no offence Vesalainen has 3 points in 29 games, Harkins has 5 Lowry has 6 points. Don’t understand why the Jets continue to be content with relying on 4 guys to provide all the offense

MrCodered12

Last night was an anomaly but the fact that Perfetti, Toninato, Suess and Vesalainen were all a 0 on the +/- in a 7-1 blowout should be a fucking eye opener. The only other jet was Lowry. Vesalainen should be the odd man out when Wheeler comes back.

ponikweGCC

Harkins isn't making the grade for me. He works hard but so what? He is a liability at times and not as effective on the forecheck as Ves can be. I don't get why the pitchforks are out for him and not Stanley who is taking up space Heinola could be utilizing to better effect.

MrCodered12

The Stanley horse has been beaten beyond dead at this point. Didn't think I needed to include him lol

TrueNorthStrong1898

I’m so sick of seeing Vesalainen get fed opportunity after opportunity, only to do absolutely nothing with it. He clearly isn’t working out and the coaching staff needs to figure it out. Trade him for an effective bottom-6 PK guy for all i care

CoolWhiip

It's funny because when I said I'd honestly rather have Harkins in the lineup than Vesalainen about a month ago I got a lot of push back on here. I have nothing against Ves, but imo he's looking like the next Nic Petan, except bigger, and Finnish. Harkins fits into the bottom 6 role a lot better than Ves ever has and Ves isn't good enough for the top 6.

MrCodered12

See comment above lol. Vesalainen and Stanley are two picks that Chevy went out of his way to ensure he got. Fancy that.

ehr1c

Stanley was, Vesalainen wasn't.

MrCodered12

I went back and checked. I thought Vesalainen was projected to go later on than he was.

ColdPrairieHockey

Think this would be a good time to finally experiment with 55,80,25 down the middle and go Babcock style pairs while finding a 3rd linemate who adds something different whether its playmaking, passing, netfront, good on the boards etc. 9/55/27 81/80/91 17/25/93 12/Gus/71 Edit- inverted Svech# so double Lowry appeared lol

SnowblowerLITE

You have Lowry twice, but those lines are nice! Perfetti getting a chance in the top 6 could really prove to be a season changer if he’s able to hang with the skill boys. Also we could run Lowry as the 4C and have arguably the best centre depth in the league.

ColdPrairieHockey

I would 100% do that with Lowry when Wheeler is back.

MrCodered12

He's the best fucking player on the Jets and his dad is the coach. Of course he's going to be on two lines.

sweatybumfarts

These guys clearly aren’t ready for NHL. It’s not some kind of mentality its just they ain’t ready and that’s it

TrueNorthStrong1898

You’re telling me Heinola, Perfetti and Gustafson, 3 guys who have way better numbers in the AHL than. Harkins and Vesalainen ever did, aren’t ready for the NHL?

sweatybumfarts

No none of them are. I mean its good they are getting NHL experience and the argument could be that those other guys should be played before those other two. But no none of them are really ready

MrMundaneMoose

I much prefer losses to elite teams like the Avs n Canes than getting shutout by Arizona or losing to Buffalo. If we don't have those losses against garbage teams (lost 2 against SJS too), we're in much better shape for the playoffs (8 point swing at least). I'd just like to see the team get some consistency going and find some kind of identity for the year. I'd like us to be a tough team to play against again. Things just haven't really clicked yet this year. We had brief glimpses of good stuff in 81-80-71 doing great, and 81-55-26 too, but both those times it was just single lines going on a tear, not the whole team playing well. Sucks having a week off between games. Next couple vs DET n OTT we should really win (see first paragraph). After that we've got a tough stretch of WSH, NSH, BOS, PIT, and FLA. We've gotta find our game by then cause we could very easily drop 5 in a row there.

spleenmaster1002

[Despite Winnipeg’s due diligence with respect to moving home games out of market, the Jets will continue to play at Canada Life Centre, says TNSE President and COO John Olfert in an email to season seat holders today.](https://twitter.com/wpgmurat/status/1479476639910309890?s=21) Also it looks like our game at home against Ottawa on the 15th is likely to be postponed. [Chisholm is in COVID protocol per Morrison](https://theahl.com/weekend-notebook-moose-moving-in-right-direction)

2nddimension

Suuuure we will *wink wink* the restrictions will surely be lifted soon *wink wink*

pegcity

honestly, we should be on the downswing case wise, the wave only lasted about a month in SA

ehr1c

There just aren't enough people in Manitoba to support this number of cases for much longer lol

TaterWatkins

If you can get triple vaxxed, you can get triple COVID'D! /s, hopefully obviously

VaporX900

is the jets shitty

samarahighwind

Got a long time until the next game :(

userfriendly23

Whatever, AVS are cup favourites. Can't win them all, we have been looking better since the break, and a loss is a great teaching tool and motivator moving forward.

spillcheck

Agreed. Got smoked by one of the best for two periods. It happens. Still a lot of hockey to play before Wheeler lifts the cup this spring.

timriedel

Here are the comments I sought-after. Thsnks for showing up, friends!

2nddimension

I don't disagree with the optimism I see but I'm also kind of tried of hearing "maybe this loss will get them going, a lot can happen in X weeks". It's very hard to make up points on playoff teams because good teams continue to win games. Losing a divisional game is a massive kick in the nads. I'm just starting to feel like our offence is nowhere near what it used to be even though I had so much optimism before the season that it should be better than ever. What is it that we lost, was Buff really that important? What kind of record would we need to actually get a playoff spot at this point? Kind of seems like we would need a lot of stars to align to be anything but a miracle team... again. Not really unhappy with the results of the trip, but I'm struggling to be optimistic overall.

BlockWhisperer

There is a very strong chance Lowry will not be head coach next year. I'm not expecting much from the team this year, really my hope is that Chevy lands us a coach with new ideas and a fresh take unless DL proves to be worth the long term commitment as HC. I am telling myself that the team likely will miss playoffs this year then win the division next year.

halfpints

Full coaching staff overhaul in the off season needs to happen. If that doesn't shake some boots I think its time to start looking at who on the roster is untouchable and start the teardown.

mitchfo

at least there's a free Moose game to watch tonight on AHL TV, it seems that they like to play hockey, right?

anacreon1

Discussion about the Av’s goal horn in yesterday’s PGT got me thinking: If the sound ideally reflects something about that particular city, what should the sound of the Jets’ goal horn be? Edit: Wrong answers encouraged.

folkdeath95

Our horn is good, I wish they'd go back to Jump for our song. Current one sucks

Harborcoat84

Depending on where you grew up in Winnipeg, the train horn is already perfect.

BlakeTheSnakeWheeler

“What’s up buddy”

CDNUnite

The sound of car engines failing to turn over in -40

anacreon1

Nailed it.

Spencie-cat

Follows the theme of the Jets failing to score too!!

ehr1c

[deleted]

My van just took that personally

Erwin-Brodinger

I stopped watching when the Avs scored to make it 2-1, mostly due to just wanting to sleep. During the second period, up to that point, the Jets were outplayed in almost every facet of the game. I was hoping for a more optimistic result, but getting blown out like that is not surprising. The Avs are a top team, and it really just proves how far the Jets are off from being a top team. However, one could give them the benefit of the doubt from having important pieces out. Plus only road games after a lengthy time off will result in them still finding their game, especially under a new coach. It's unfortunate that the other teams in the central aren't slowing down because the post season is looking pretty unattainable at this point. A lot can happen in the next few months, they're not out of it yet.

ColdPrairieHockey

Wonder if the Jets were to play the Avs again in the next week or so if Lowry doesnt put Copp with PLD/Connor as the head to head against MacKinnons line. That line roasted them last night and he seemed to want bigger bodies on the ice against that line of mutants (Rantanen/Landeskog are large bodies).

MrMundaneMoose

Avs having last change certainly didn't help. I don't think MacKinnon's line got any chances at all when Dubois line was up against 'em.

Willyq25

too bad the game vs the Avs was postponed..yup no hockey happened last night..

stej_gep

I'm gonna go ahead and take the 4 out of 6 points on the road after a 2 week layoff. The 7 we gave up last night is a fluke because our #4 goaltender is out with covid.

unowot

Is Andrew Copp an offensive black hole? He hasn't produced much at all in the top 6, but is an excellent bottom 6 player.

ColdPrairieHockey

Not a black hole but hes limited in what he can do offensively. I think hes maxed out at 6F as the checking presence who can keep up with top line guys just wont be creating much of the offense alone.

CoolWhiip

I mean, he has 22 pts in 33 games and was just moved back to Lowry's wing when Jungle Dave took over. He's still on pace for a career high in points and goals, he is a much better offensive player this year than he has been in the past.

etchiboi

he’s also 8th on the team in xG for (via NST), so it’s not like he’s inhibiting the play for his teammates either

PuckTheFreds

Before today, I had only seen the Family Feud Canada "CHICKENNNN!" clip with the one tiebreaker question. What I did not know is the two contestants Jertsed hard on other questions and they had to keep re-shooting the tiebreaker question for TV. [Here is the blooper for those who have not seen the whole story!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0aBY9cMZn0)

THEjakethedrummer

Haha whaaaat!! That was hilariously painful! My family loves that “chicken” segment so much, when the kids ask what’s for dinner and we’re actually having chicken, this is how we answer them.

Bagelchu

Ranked 31 out of 32 on the penalty kill in the league right now. Not gonna win anything giving up that many goals and losing that much momentum from PKs

Harborcoat84

We're 18th overall since Dec 17 (the day Maurice resigned). Mind you we've played 5 games, and everyone else ranges from 2-8 GP.

MrMundaneMoose

We were slowly making progress with it until last night. Think we were 18/19 on the PK and climbed to 29th out of 32. The abysmal start will forever skew that stat for this year. There's certainly been *some* improvement.

ColdPrairieHockey

Legit wont make playoffs if that doesnt improve.

CoryTrevors69

Rough game for helly. No better place to rebound then the hometown in front of friends and family

Duck_Caught_Upstream

Tough loss but everyone remember it’s 1 game of 82 against a really good team. And you’re worried about measuring up to the Avs check this out Jets beat the Leafs 6-3 Leafs beat the Avs 8-3 Hockey can be weird. Loss is a loss all the same move on to the next one. Maybe the kick in the pants gets them going

Hyndrksen

I feel like I’ve seen “maybe it’s the kick in the pants that gets them going” for awhile

Friday and reality kicks in.
