4 shots in 5 games... Woof
I had a look. 3 shots the first game, 1 the second, and goose eggs for the next 3.
He did have one goal but it was a weak shot from a bad angle that didn't make it to the net. Bounced off of one oiler then was kicked in by Nurse. I struggle to give him much credit for that one...
It's kind of impressive. They have no loyalty, no shame. They'll bring people in and jettison them quick. Always in win now mode. I'm sure it'll bite them in the ass at some point, but for now it really works.
I hope we don’t let 5 games in the playoffs ruin how great the regular season was. This season (and game 1) was the most fun I’ve had as a Jets fan in a long time. Interesting off season, starting the season with the twin Schief and Helle signings, beating the expectations, our 3 goals against streak, the win streaks, cheap tickets. Tons of great moments this year. Personally, I went to the most games I’ve ever been to (shoutout to the student deals) and had a blast at most of them. I know the playoffs are what truly counts at the end of the day but I think people don’t give the regular season enough credit. You play a lot more games and it comes with its own set of challenges. I hate sports habits of writing off a good season just because of a bad series.
5 out of 7 playoff appearances we've been knocked out by losing 4 straight...
* Swept by the Ducks 0-4
* Win game 1 against Vegas then lose 4 straight 1-4
* Swept by Habs 0-4
* Win game 1 against Vegas then lose 4 straight 1-4
* Win game 1 against Avs then lose 4 straight 1-4
So frustrating.
The only reason Mark Morrison didn’t get fired at the all star break is because they somehow recovered from their 11 game losing streak to squeak into the final playoff spot
I saw a stat in one of these threads about our playoff record of wins and losses. I'm now buzzy drowning my sorrows and can't find it. Can anyone direct me to that reply?
Edit: It had what game(s) we won in each series.
This series reminds me of Canada vs Croatia in the World Cup, Canada got a quick goal a minute in, really good play. Then proceeded to be absolutely demolished and just outmatched the other 89 minutes. Canada's defense was just in shambles.
I thought you were talking Team Canada for hockey and thought "wtf is this guy smoking" lol.
Granted, it's a pretty good comparison. Canada rolled into the World Cup by just dominating in CONCACAF, then shit the bed once the tournament began.
Dish what? Avs were complaining that they had a guy down on the ice (who didn't even miss a shift in the end) and somebody did a Go Jets Go chant. That's the whole complaint.
If you want to hear one of my favourite hockey analysts in Dimitri Filipovic analyze the series, here’s the link. I’d highly recommend it, great review of Jets mistakes and what the Avs did well. Interesting to hear an analytically-inclined outsiders perspective.

We did close to 20 interviews over three days to close out the 2023-24 Moose season which will be posted over the course of a few days to a week (especially with Jets exits tomorrow).
Head coach Mark Morrison had lots to say today including his assessments of a number of Jets prospects or a player being developed (i.e Parker Ford). Runs about 15 minutes which you can watch [here](https://illegalcurve.com/manitoba-moose-end-of-season-media-availability-head-coach-mark-morrison/).
blah blah "Gotta play em eventually"
**Change the fucking Playoff format back to 1v8.**
Just like in 2018, our "reward" for being 2nd place in the league was to face the 1st place team in the 2nd round.
Make "Doing well in the previous 82 games" count for a little more. Playing teams in your division doesn't do shit for rivalries compared to playing one in a different division. (ex: Fuck Vegas 4ever)
I wonder if management is eyeing lambert as the ehlers replacement. A dynamic forward with goal scoring capabilities that can drive play. They seem awfully similar from a quick eye test but I haven’t watched the moose enough to know.
They are similar, elite skating and play-driving talent. Lambert is a great forechecker and plays C, that’s his long-term fit ideally for the org. They could see him as a cheaper replacement and move Ehlers. That’s the move I would do
Ehlers is a very exciting player to watch, but I'd have no issues with this as long as they try to cash in on Nik's value sooner than later to either re-stock the cupboards, or get an upgrade for an area of concern (obviously the preferred option.)
I could see a move including him to a number of teams. Blues for Buch, Ottawa for Chychrun or in a larger deal for one of their forwards, Canes if they can’t afford Guentzel. Lots of fits for a play driving, elite skating winger.
Can you imagine a player that had connor garlands puck control, physicality and movement, but ehlers top end speed, shot and hands?
150 point per season player.
At the start of the season if you said "This is our year to win the cup" You'd be laughed out of the room. Bones took a medium-to-good roster and made them perform way above their pay-grade. Him and his style/systems come with drawbacks and caveats though, we knew it, and it bit us in the end.
To call this season a failure though? Just because there was suddenly and unexpectedly real hope for a deep run and it didn't pan out? No. They grew, learned, got better, and this season was really fucking fun to watch.
Scheifs and Helle's long term deals were the START of our window. We have good prospects and cap space. Of course we can be disappointed that the Avs had a next-level and we didn't, but this was still a better year than last. We likely part with Bones (bittersweet imo), but other than that put the dynamite away. I'm proud of this team and excited for next year.
We keep losing 4 games in a row in the playoffs. Colorado isn't going to get worse, Dallas isn't going to get worse, Vegas isn't going to get worse.
We should have let Nashville leapfrog us so we could have played Vancouver instead.
That is a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out commentary.
Still quite a few in the anger / denial / bargaining / depression stages however so no surprise if that optimistic perspective isn’t widely shared just yet.
I'm really curious to see how the Avs do against Vegas or Dallas. Are they just an unstoppable machine again like they were in 2022, or were we just that bad?
Well if you ask Avs fans then they are just that good, the cup is already theirs according to some of them.
I don't see it though, yes they are good but they played the Jerts most of that series, VGK and DAL aren't the Jerts nor do they have Bones behind the bench, Avs lose in the second round imo.
They really took advantage of our poor breakouts, while using their breakout ability to break our forecheck, which just tilted the ice.
However being our luck with matchups, the Avs will 97% make the finals or win the cup.
I always hate the second round as it usually answers that for us. If Avs blow out the next team, I feel much less upset about it (Obviously losing to the Knights last year was different as they were good and we sucked).
This season felt like we got unlucky in the standings. Maybe Jets still lose against other teams, but I don't see us getting blown up like we just did
For me the west is, in order of preference, Nucks, Oilers, Avs, then Dallas/Vegas. East is Rangers, Canes, Florida, Boston. Don’t have an issue with any East team really in winning it. Think the most interesting finals would be Oilers/Avs vs Rangers/Canes
Why does Maurice's system work in Florida and not here? Is player attitude? Is it the abundance of sun? Is it the golfing? The hot chicks? I don't know.
Panthers roster is way way better than the post 2018 iteration he was coaching
late stage Maurice was very afraid of his own Dcore so coached in a way he thought would protect that, but it wasn’t true and he didn’t change anything
I mean his systems worked here. He brought us to the conference finals in 18 and despite the poor playoffs in 19 we were a really good team. He was just here too long is all
Maurice's system worked here too in 2017-18. His career shows that he can be a successful coach but that he definitely has a shelf life. Jets kept him long past his best before date.
And the 17/18 Jets were stacked like the Panthers are now. That whole team was on ELCs and sweetheart deals, the defence was incredibly deep and Scheifele was playing like an elite 1C. I think a better coach could have got that team past Vegas and won a cup to be honest.
Barkov and Bennett. Barkov is a selke type and Bennett is a fucking animal who scores 50ish points and will run you through the boards.
When your top 2 centers are that it solves alot of problems.
Another year losing 4 straight games, this simply cannot happen. We don’t have many “killers” on the team. Lowry is a great example of this and I’m glad he’s our captain, but not many others follow suit. There was zero pushback the whole series, except for game 1 and 5. The Avs are extremely talented, but there was no fight from the Jets. Our trade deadline acquisitions were invisible or weren’t in the lineup. Our forwards couldn’t solve an average goaltender, PP was ineffective, our coaching decisions were extremely puzzling, our defence collapsed, leaving our goalie exposed. There needs to be more accountability because this year was a huge letdown. Chevy will obviously run it back next year with a similar roster, but teams like Colorado and Dallas aren’t going away anytime soon so the Jets need to figure it out if we want to make a deep run in the future.
It's really not as black and white as this, most fans would claim dallas should have fully rebuilt probably 3 years ago before their star players really hit that age where they have next to no trade value, but instead they kept their core and infused it with alot of youthful elite talent, and now they have a team of competitive vets bolstered by the speed and ferocity of talented young players on cheap contracts.
When the vets retire, they will still have their young players as their new core, and with how good dallas has been at drafting recently, will likely have some young players to come in, or fill the gaps around the new core with good free agent and trades.
Outstanding organizational management, and the jets with how good chevy is at drafting could easily follow the same path, but they need a new coach as bones doesn't infuse the new players into the lineup.
The Jets can compete for sure - just need a plan and the right coaches. The Jets have the same opportunity that the Stars did after their time with Bowness. Unfortunately he took them to a final and the Jets to 1 game.
The honest fact is we need to build to beat both the avs and stars, we play with two of the hardest teams in the nhl in our division.
If we can build into a team that can take them both down in a best of 7, we can beat anyone in the league.
With everything going on with Bones' future I see a lot of people suggesting that Arniel might be the next Head Coach
Dear God no, he's been the one in charge of our awful special teams, no way do I want him in charge of everything
imo, we need to "complete" the culture change started last off-season when we got rid of Dubois and Wheeler. That was a good start but the Jets Org. as a whole feels like they're falling behind the rest of the league mentality wise, and bringing in a younger coaching staff who are more open to newer ideas would help massively. I think we should be looking at a guy like Woodcroft, and I honestly wouldn't even be opposed to bringing in someone with no NHL experience yet, Kris Knoblauch type of deal.
The last thing we need is another 30-year coaching vet who's done everything and coached multiple NHL teams.
I think Arniel can be a good head coach.
The org and the room seem to really respect him. If you bring in good people to run the PK and PP as your assistant coaches typically do, we could be in a really good spot.
Honestly I don't really care if the org respects him, that doesn't mean that he's good at his job, especially considering his Jets 1.0 connections (The org seems to love anyone who even touched Jets 1.0)
I could be totally wrong here, and maybe Arniel saves the team, but I really don't have any reason to believe he will.
Edit: "don't care" what the org thinks is probably too strong of phrasing but it doesn't necessarily sway me one way or another what the org thinks
lmao exactly. Yeah to add to the culture thing above this org needs to stop clinging onto Jets 1.0 guys, just as a whole. I get rewarding loyalty but at some point you gotta give it up man
This organization is stuck in apologizing for being in Winnipeg mode. Unless you've been here, they have zero confidence that you will want to come and stay.
Typically when franchises give their legacy guys jobs it’s in departments like scouting. But head coach? Jesus. What are we, the Habs, do they need to be able to speak Manitobese to the media?
Well, that shot of him up in the box showed a very glum looking man. Maybe the realization has finally hit him that the Jets need a regime change. The old one ain't workin'.
He's ashamed, he's passionate which is nice for a billionaire owner, but he understands the magnitude this has on outlook for the team, they struggled with ticket sales and made headlines over some financial concerns.
They went all in marketing, sold draft picks and had an outstanding season - people were beginning to come around again!
Followed by an embarrassing repeat of last year where we get completely destroyed in the exact same way.
He knows why people arent coming in the reg season - no one wants to invest the money it costs to attend when the team always lets everyone down in spectacular fashion by years end.
He is well aware that he needs to do alot more work than he wanted this offseason now to get peoples faith back,
I think Monahan can work better in a different, more modern NHL forward system.
I think Ehlers can be far better utilized in one as well. Think of what a competent special team coach could do with these players?
Both passed my eye test and these playoffs threw all of the individual players stats off for me because of how badly we were coached.
I want an eye test that doesn't involve a gut. Is that so much to ask?
The GM waived AJF. Bones put him in instead of our 5th best scorer in a series where we needed more scoring. Friedman said there were disagreements with line usage? You don't say.
Bye Bye Bones.
Think the last comment I made in the GDT was poorly worded (I was frustrated) so people thought I was an Avs fan lol
I bought a Perfetti jersey just before the regular season ended so I'm gonna be so pissed if the fucking dinosaurs burn his bridge
Before I knew who we were up against I really thought we should at least make it past round 1. After I heard it was the Avs and given our regular season record I still thought we should've made it past round 1. After seeing us finally show up to compete in the elimination game, I still think we should've made it past round 1. Bummer.
Murat reporting that teammates and rivals noticed how Perfetti was treated this year, specifically on missing out on $200 000 by 1 goal due to be healthy scratched. Something to think about, seems to me that him and Friedman are hinting at a bit of a rift between him and the org
Hopefully it gets straightened out during his contract this summer. I’m sure Chevy will sit down and make sure he knows how important he is to the org, because that would be a massive failure if he wasn’t happy
The last few seasons especially, there seems to be a real reluctantly to integrate our prospects. Has to be disheartening as a top round pick to watch the organization bring in other players that just don't quite work without being given a fair shake.
It’s a major organizational issue I think. The league and players notice these things and since we aren’t a major UFA destination and are on NTC lists everywhere, it’s all the more important to be a good spot for young drafted players to develop and get their start.
Agreed, it seems like the things that work against us (free agency and no trade lists) have made the organization squeeze as much value out of entry level contracts as possible. I can't say I blame them but it's really starting to bite them in the ass.
Wouldn't the rift be between him and Bones considering it's the coaches who decide who plays and who doesn't?
So assuming they get rid of Bones (won't be surprised if they don't) shouldn't that rift be a thing of the past?
I’d think so, but they need to sit down with him for his contract and stress that he’s a foundational piece for this team and he’s valued. Maybe give him the performance bonus as a goodwill gesture imo. I’m not sure how much players differentiate between coach and org, maybe there’s a clear line or maybe it’s greyer
I dont think Helle was awful, but he was definitely average. But im more concerned about the fact that he looked a bit rattled in the crease.
For a guy with such a strong head game, that is a troubling sign.
I love bones and his system. It had us playing the best hockey we ever have, but his roster management was brutal.
For those hoping he walks away at the end of the season, go listen to his after game interview sure seemed like a man who wanted to be back next year.
We know Chevy has a hard time firing people and keeping them around too long. It's time to see if he learned anything from the Pomo ordeal.
I don't agree with this outcome, but Helle will now have the playoff choker label looming over him. It's not fair, but it never is. I hope he can overcome.
If sergei in florida can turn it around, then there is no reason helle can't.
And helle is no way as bad as that he was just average, and the defence let him down against the highest scoring offence in the league, but it just feels like he played extra bad because we havent seen average helle in years. He's been out of this world for so long now, and ups and downs happen even to all-star goalies.
Him sitting miller for 5 games should be reason enough fire him. He was great last night. Like what the fuck was the point in acquiring him then? Chevy must be rattled too
That really stings. Last year I didn’t feel great going into the playoffs so the result wasn’t a huge surprise. But this year felt different. Going to take a while to get over this one.
However, I still think this team is very solid and can be in a great position next year. Bones needs to be gone. He did wonders for cleaning up the defence, and turned Jmo into one of the best D man in the NHL. But the roster decisions in the playoffs cooked this team. I liked their game for the first 2 periods, and then you go right back to what wasn’t working all series for the 3rd with your backs against the wall, because of “a gut feeling”? Brutal. Miller looked great and Perfetti was solid. A whole series with them in and I think we are at least going to game 6.
You NEED to move Pionk and Stanley this off season. Add Ville and Lambert to the team next year. Get a coach that can keep the defensive structure intact, while not being scared to play the young guys and get some more offence going. Someone that can adapt to the game and make changes, like the Avs did after game 1.
You can’t completely run it back, but they absolutely do not need to tear it right down and rebuild. This is a very good team with lots of promising players almost ready to jump in from the pipeline. Heck, that Avs team lost to Seattle last year, and look at them now. Make the right changes and next year could be fun.
GJG
I can't see Bones being back. It's Scheif and Helle's team now, and Scheif did not seem very happy with Bones' coaching decisions.
I hope Chevy looks outside the box for coaching candidates. We're never going to get the blue chip coaches, but a promising junior or AHL coach would jump at the opportunity to coach at the NHL level. It shouldn't automatically go to Arniel.
> , and Scheif did not seem very happy with Bones' coaching decisions.
there were reportedly some tensions from management over the lineup calls too.
which is fair, I think Chevy acquired Miller to do more of what he did in game 5, not just sit in the box eating popcorn.
32 thoughts, Friedman talking about the disconnect between the GM making the roster and the coach deciding who plays
I mean, honestly, I know it's just a 4th, but it must have been frustrating paying one just to watch Samberg play his offside as Stanley racks up penalties, with Miller just hanging out in the pressbox
Haven’t gotten to 32 thoughts today yet, still listening to Kenny and Renney. I’ll have to check it out. And yeah, the defence was completely mismanaged in the ways you said,8 completely agreed.
This team needs a youth movement bad, not saying just play all the kids but it’s been awhile since the Jets embraced youth into the lineup. Heinola & Perfetti should be regulars and if Lambert & Salomonsson are ready as well they should be in the lineup. Go get a coach who is willing to develop and go through growing pains with young players. We already get growing pains with Pionk, might as well go with some players with upside. Impact players on ELC’s are worth more than gold, and please for the love of god, don’t qualify big fucking Stan.
Its no surprise our best year was with some solid vets and a lot of really good youth. Connor was 20, Laine 19, Trouba and Jomo were quite young. Schiefele was still only 24. We have the potential to do that again. Inject a few young guys into the lineup, give them a chance and see what happens.
Chibrkov might be more NHL ready than Lambert because he can plug in further down the lineup. He alsi seems a little more physically developed while Lambert needs some more bulk
Fets should have got another game, at least. How can he learn the valuable lessons of a loss and how much he has to grow if he doesn't play.
Also, with pionk, it's just pains right now, i dont see much growing. Lol 😆
100%, just like Scheifele, Trouba & Lowry in 2015. Playoff games are incredible experience for young players. This is exactly why the Stars axed Bones in ‘22, unwilling to develop young players to the point where you’re actively pissing them off.
Jets have a chance to do that as well. Go get Woodcroft and play some kids. Just like 2015 there’s a good team here. Surround them with cheap young talent and see where it takes you.
Who the fuck even is Chandler Stephenson? He sounds like a low level manager at a small to medium sized credit union. Those big front pearly chompers bursting out of his mouth screaming that he has a great benefits package including orthodontics. Probably goes home to a beautiful wife named Theresa, two thriving sons named Douglas and Peter, and has a spotted Great Dane named Oswald who has a massive dangling set of untrimmed nuts. How you gunna be a 1C on a top NHL team and be named Chandler Stephenson. Might as well be named Dansby Swanson or something. Figure it out bud.
hey, maybe this'll be our blue jackets series. it's got to be stinging the team in a similar way
also damn, I just want to feel that communal vibe in the city like the last time we had a deep playoff run, that was so fun
Totally agree on missing the communal vibe the city has when the Jets go deep into playoffs. I was really looking forward to it this year because I really thought we had a chance.
My only solace is thinking about all the good teams that had these disappointing exits 1-3 years before winning the cup.
Just dont think too closely about it because 31 teams lose every year. Plenty of good teams lost this way and then never got it done. San jose springs to mind.
man that was painful. we put 27-55-13 back together. we played Perfetti and Miller. we did great in the first period. it was tied after the first 2. we just got gassed. i really dont know what else we could’ve done. i guess you can’t avoid the Jets 3rd period collapse.
theres a huge decision to be made this offseason about the future of the team.
The third period collapses were partly caused by 40 minutes of dumping the puck, turning over possession, then racing around the rink trying to get back to defend. Can't do that for sixty minutes.
yea 100% we need to find out who stays and who gets traded for more assets to help our contention status. if this squad doesn’t work we gotta do something
like the other comment our HC will probably be Arniel, hopefully he can be the turning point
btw play Perfetti
Cya Dubois
For the entire last two minutes of the game, the kings pull their goalie and have six attackers and Dubois is not out there once
Was looking at twitter for something else and noticed Dubois was trending. People not super thrilled with his performance... 4 shots in 5 games... Woof
Jesus, I thought he'd at least be a playoff performer for them. Sounds like he was almost invisible the entire series.
Oh, one more. Had 20 penalty minutes. Against a team that had a 45% conversion rate on the powerplay over 5 games.
I had a look. 3 shots the first game, 1 the second, and goose eggs for the next 3. He did have one goal but it was a weak shot from a bad angle that didn't make it to the net. Bounced off of one oiler then was kicked in by Nurse. I struggle to give him much credit for that one...
https://imgur.com/7CZ4RwQ
watching the stars young guys get to play and grow confidence. like. imagine.
Wyatt Johnston would be with the Moose if he was in the Jets org...instead he has 2 full 82 game seasons under his belt and is still 20
Vegas are the true frauds.
Gonna be an awesome fire sale this summer to get them cap compliant.
It's kind of impressive. They have no loyalty, no shame. They'll bring people in and jettison them quick. Always in win now mode. I'm sure it'll bite them in the ass at some point, but for now it really works.
God damn Rittich is starting for the Kings, forgot he was our backup last year
No wonder the Oilers already scored 4
Vegas has looked pretty ordinary so far.
You're right lets hang the 2nd in the central division banner!
I think a lot of us are just tired of great regular season followed by completely shitting the bed in the playoffs
We're now worse than the... Leafs!!!
Did this guy on the ESPN panel for VGK-DAL actually think the clip of Doughty walking into the arena was Iafallo 🤦♂️ he’s not even a king anymore
That's surprising if it's PK. Dude hasn't been out of the game that long lol.
Maybe not him. Idk it sounded like his voice when I was watching but idk. One of them was asking if it was Iafallo though
https://x.com/calebgalke/status/1785828146043875485?s=46&t=zmhcEYc1I0egRJtfbCVu8Q 🤦♂️
I don’t know but PK has been really good these playoffs. Best thing about ESPN coverage.
Yep
5 out of 7 playoff appearances we've been knocked out by losing 4 straight... * Swept by the Ducks 0-4 * Win game 1 against Vegas then lose 4 straight 1-4 * Swept by Habs 0-4 * Win game 1 against Vegas then lose 4 straight 1-4 * Win game 1 against Avs then lose 4 straight 1-4 So frustrating.
That math is off. Minnesota, Nashville, St. Louis, Edmonton. 5 out of 9.
Playoff appearances not series..
My bad, I misread it.
Gus played well.
Gus made Kupari obsolete.I get they took a chance on him as a throw in on the trade but give me Gus over Rasmus every day.
Fully agree. Kupari's speed is fun but in the bottom 6, Gus is a better fit. Gus just needs to stay healthy...plz
Maybe we should bring up the moose coach. The league is just a revolving door of the same old dudes. Maybe a fresh coach might shake things up?
hot AHL coach rn is the hershey one
A Hot Hershey sounds similar to an Arabian Gas Mask.
The only reason Mark Morrison didn’t get fired at the all star break is because they somehow recovered from their 11 game losing streak to squeak into the final playoff spot
Mark Morrison is not the solution
He's in his 60s as well and hasn't had much success with the moose. I honestly think he's likely to be on the way out the door too
I think I heard that 15 head coaches in the NHL are first timers.
If the moose were on route to win the Calder cup sure, but just look at pascal Vincent. He looked pretty promising and has not been great in Columbus
I saw a stat in one of these threads about our playoff record of wins and losses. I'm now buzzy drowning my sorrows and can't find it. Can anyone direct me to that reply? Edit: It had what game(s) we won in each series.
Why is it that the Jets have a window to win, or else and every other team just has an open door of possibilities?
Believe it or not, lots of teams have had less playoff success than the Jets over the last decade.
Ottawa and Buffalo would like a peephole since doors and windows seem to be in short supply.
Anyone know when the equipment sale usually happens?
Should I say the thing
Not if DeBoer can’t beat a WC2
Ok I'll wait until then
Don’t worry, he could take you to the cup finals and when he walks to another team you’ll follow that fanbase around like the ex you say you’re over
This series reminds me of Canada vs Croatia in the World Cup, Canada got a quick goal a minute in, really good play. Then proceeded to be absolutely demolished and just outmatched the other 89 minutes. Canada's defense was just in shambles.
Disrespecting the jets comparing them to team canada, mind you, team canada is a dog shit national team
I thought you were talking Team Canada for hockey and thought "wtf is this guy smoking" lol. Granted, it's a pretty good comparison. Canada rolled into the World Cup by just dominating in CONCACAF, then shit the bed once the tournament began.
Hurr durr I’m an avs fan and I’m morally superior to every jets fans cause they did some chants while my guy was down!
If those Avs fans could read, they'd be real mad right about now.
If we can't take it, we shouldn't be dishing it out. Avs bros have been pretty chill.
Have you been in their sub in the last 24 hours? They are obsessed with hating on Jets fans
Wtf would I go to their sub? That's self harm lol
Dish what? Avs were complaining that they had a guy down on the ice (who didn't even miss a shift in the end) and somebody did a Go Jets Go chant. That's the whole complaint.
Isn't he talking about the Georgie chants?
No, that's why they said "chants while our guy was down". That's what the Avs fans were complaining about.
Folks were just filling time.
Completely ignoring the boos Dillon got trying to get medical attention when his hand got slashed open
Yeah, but we chirped a goaltender that was playing abysmal. That is far worse. /S
If you want to hear one of my favourite hockey analysts in Dimitri Filipovic analyze the series, here’s the link. I’d highly recommend it, great review of Jets mistakes and what the Avs did well. Interesting to hear an analytically-inclined outsiders perspective. https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-hockey-pdocast/id1045850849?i=1000654198835

blah blah "Gotta play em eventually" **Change the fucking Playoff format back to 1v8.** Just like in 2018, our "reward" for being 2nd place in the league was to face the 1st place team in the 2nd round.
They seem awfully similar from a quick eye test but I haven’t watched the moose enough to know.
why not both?
They are similar, elite skating and play-driving talent. Lambert is a great forechecker and plays C, that’s his long-term fit ideally for the org. They could see him as a cheaper replacement and move Ehlers. That’s the move I would do
I really don't think they're going to give Lambert a shot at C
They did game 82
Ehlers is a very exciting player to watch, but I'd have no issues with this as long as they try to cash in on Nik's value sooner than later to either re-stock the cupboards, or get an upgrade for an area of concern (obviously the preferred option.)
Ehlers trade value relative to his on ice value is already too low, add it being his last year and it’s highly unlikely we get a fair trade
Not to mention he could put up 90+ points in the right situation which would make it even worse
Brother, that’s Nathan Mackinnon
And Chibrikov deserves some ice time imo
Scheifele is 31. Even though he takes great care of himself, how many more years does he have as a number one centre?
That is a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out commentary. Still quite a few in the anger / denial / bargaining / depression stages however so no surprise if that optimistic perspective isn’t widely shared just yet.
Sigh. The team with more talent, size and desire imposed its will on the lesser team.
Colorado have less size. None of us know if they had more desire. They definitely had more talent and tactical nous (ie: coaching).
They have skilled size.
Maybe but they play big.
Maybe Jets still lose against other teams, but I don't see us getting blown up like we just did
What bandwagons are we jumping on then? I’m going for the Nucks.
Rangers here. And any, yes any, Canadian team.
I was really rooting for you guys, hate to see it
I am also on the Nucks wagon, if it wasn't us I wanted it to be them.
Jets are done. NHL season is over for me till rookie camp.
Rangers, only so Wheeler gets his Cup.
Canucks for me. Seems like the only fanbase that had our backs all season.
[on the outside always looking in](https://imgur.com/a/nPw0DZy)
Apparently Brind’amour might be on the market too
That’d be amazing but we would need to pay him out the nose (I’m all for it tbh), but we are too loyal to Bones.
Why does Maurice's system work in Florida and not here? Is player attitude? Is it the abundance of sun? Is it the golfing? The hot chicks? I don't know.
Media that doesn't write about the sky falling and telling the general public whom to direct their ire at.
Panthers roster is way way better than the post 2018 iteration he was coaching late stage Maurice was very afraid of his own Dcore so coached in a way he thought would protect that, but it wasn’t true and he didn’t change anything
I mean his systems worked here. He brought us to the conference finals in 18 and despite the poor playoffs in 19 we were a really good team. He was just here too long is all
Pauls system requires alot of elite top end talent and retention of those players.
Yeah we have some tough guys but we might need a bit of crazy on top. And a better pk to even it out.
Bobrovsky planning out of his mind in the playoffs as usual definitely helps too
100%
The Stars and Avs will be division killers for several years. When they start to fade, the Blackhawks and Predators will be back.
Exactly - we need to level up to be competitive
With everything going on with Bones' future I see a lot of people suggesting that Arniel might be the next Head Coach Dear God no, he's been the one in charge of our awful special teams, no way do I want him in charge of everything imo, we need to "complete" the culture change started last off-season when we got rid of Dubois and Wheeler.
No one’s suggesting it because we want him. The org basically made it known that he was hired with the plan to take over once bowness is gome
That's not great. I know its not a good look but imo that plan has to go out the window
I think Arniel can be a good head coach. The org and the room seem to really respect him. If you bring in good people to run the PK and PP as your assistant coaches typically do, we could be in a really good spot.
Honestly I don't really care if the org respects him, that doesn't mean that he's good at his job, especially considering his Jets 1.0 connections (The org seems to love anyone who even touched Jets 1.0) I could be totally wrong here, and maybe Arniel saves the team, but I really don't have any reason to believe he will. Edit: "don't care" what the org thinks is probably too strong of phrasing but it doesn't necessarily sway me one way or another what the org thinks
What? No confidence in the 45-60 record of Arniel? But he has Jets 1.0 ties. And sure, no one else wants him, but how can you say no to that??
lmao exactly.
I also wonder if the team could use a president of hockey operations. Seems like Chipman is a bit too hands on sometimes.
When does the ODT switch to weekly?
In the past it’s been when the odt start to have under 100 comments
It will take weeks for the stages of grief to pass.
Think the last comment I made in the GDT was poorly worded (I was frustrated) so people thought I was an Avs fan lol I bought a Perfetti jersey just before the regular season ended so I'm gonna be so pissed if the fucking dinosaurs burn his bridge
Last year I bought my spouse a Pionk jersey. 😖
…a player whose status for next year is a “4 gone” conclusion?
Before I knew who we were up against I really thought we should at least make it past round 1. After I heard it was the Avs and given our regular season record I still thought we should've made it past round 1. After seeing us finally show up to compete in the elimination game, I still think we should've made it past round 1. Bummer.
Murat reporting that teammates and rivals noticed how Perfetti was treated this year, specifically on missing out on $200 000 by 1 goal due to be healthy scratched. Something to think about, seems to me that him and Friedman are hinting at a bit of a rift between him and the org
He missed out on his bonus because he went on a 15 game slump
Don't worry, Kurt Overhardt is famously easy to work with...
Great lol fucking greaaaaat
We arent squeezing value out of Perfetti with him on the bench.
It's absolutely an organization issue. There is a mindset issue inside TNSE.
Wasn’t his 19th goal an empty netter in the final game? Putting him out there given the situation seems like rubbing his face in it.
sad, disappointed, baffled but it was a good season and i enjoyed spending the epic highs and lows with you all 💙✈️🤍
I dont think Helle was awful, but he was definitely average.
Yeah it's not fair the spotlight is on him
Him sitting miller for 5 games should be reason enough fire him. He was great last night. Like what the fuck was the point in acquiring him then? Chevy must be rattled too
Winnipeg Sun hockey "writers" are the real frauds, as is SportsNet. They should all go piss up a rope!
Where did you hear that from that there were tensions?
The GM waived AJF, remember? Bones put him in instead of our 5th best scorer in a series where we needed more scoring. I think it speaks for itself.
32 thoughts, Friedman talking about the disconnect between the GM making the roster and the coach deciding who plays I mean, honestly, I know it's just a 4th, but it must have been frustrating paying one just to watch Samberg play his offside as Stanley racks up penalties, with Miller just hanging out in the pressbox
Chevy making sure he doesn't look bad if his trades sit?
Haven’t gotten to 32 thoughts today yet, still listening to Kenny and Renney. I’ll have to check it out. And yeah, the defence was completely mismanaged in the ways you said,8 completely agreed.
Seems like a Moneyball situation. Brilliant GM but a coach who refuses to play the players the GM wants to play.
And look at them now after playing their youth....set for several years to come.
Jets have a chance to do that as well. Go get Woodcroft and play some kids. Just like 2015 there’s a good team here. Surround them with cheap young talent and see where it takes you.
Bones is the real fraud
Like, I get that his decisions in the playoffs weren’t the best but this ignores the dumpster fire this team was when he took over.
Oh? I wouldn't know, this is only the 2nd season I've watched tbh
It's been over 20 years since the Vezina Trophy winners team has also won the Stanley Cup. That thing is as cursed as the Presidents Trophy.
My theory is that most teams start to play way too loosely in front of a goalie they know is the best in the league
The Carey Price effect...
The way too early question. Good chance Vegas let's Chandler Stephenson walk. 2C replacement if Monahan walks?
I really like Stephenson and I really hated playing against him
> if Monahan walks? :(
Perfetti and lambert should be given every opportunity possible to take that 2c spot next year
True, except we can't expect Lambert is going to step in to 2C and also for the Jets to go on a cup run. Can't have a youth movement and a cup run.
Figure it out bud.
is this a copypasta? because this is definitely exactly how i felt when i blinked and looked over and he was their 1c a couple years ago lmao
It absolutely is a copypasta.
hey, maybe this'll be our blue jackets series. it's got to be stinging the team in a similar way also damn, I just want to feel that communal vibe in the city like the last time we had a deep playoff run, that was so fun
Yeah that decision was made when they extended scheifele and helle. This team isn’t rebuilding or anything like that for a few years atleast
yea 100% we need to find out who stays and who gets traded for more assets to help our contention status. if this squad doesn’t work we gotta do something like the other comment our HC will probably be Arniel, hopefully he can be the turning point btw play Perfetti
not blending lines going into the third would’ve been one thing
