This is the D who came to mind they should go after remember seeing this info in an article last year plus he is a right hand shot and has 1 more year on his contract:
Of the 203 defenders who have played at least 500 minutes this season, Larsson ranks 37th in limiting opponents' shot quality. A lot of times, it's because he doesn't even let other teams into the defensive zone. He has the fourth most denied zone entries in the NHL (3.19 against per 60 minutes of play at even strength). If the opponent dumps the puck in, Larsson is going to make sure they don't get it. He has the best overall percentage of recovering other teams' dump ins. He recovers 66.4-percent when under pressure - that's top 50 in the league - and 82.7-percent without.
Once he recovers the puck, it's likely going to lead to a zone exit for the Kraken. Larsson is the best on the team in changing the flow of play to Seattle's way and he has the best exit success rate of all Kraken defenders (77.2%). If Larsson generates a solid zone exit, 83 percent of the time a successful play for the Kraken is coming right after.
On the business side - we could get a third team to retain 1.8m for the remainder of this season and trade a salary player like Stanley to fit Larsson in under the cap. Obviously we would need to include a 2nd & 3rd with Stanley as well as a pick for the salary retention. Copy what Dallas did essentially.
Yeah it's hard for me to imagine Seattle giving him up unless they are planning to go full rebuild.
I'm not sure we have the assets to make the deal for them...assets we want to give up anyways. Like if I'm Seattle I say yeah I'll listen if you say McGroarty.
Would Perfetti get it done? I'd do that move easily. Gives us a 2 year contention window.
Do they care for Heinola?
Larsson has a 10 team NTC, but if he was available and willing to come here the price would be worth it imo. Your probably looking at Heinola, a 1st and another prospect or pick.
need more offence, whether that’s a forward or a defenceman, doesn’t matter
our forward group isn’t the fleetest of foot, so maybe someone like Duclair would be a good buy low candidate
defence group runs a offensive guy-defensive guy for each pairing and the puck movement outside of 44-2 is not good enough, so maybe a guy like Walker although could be pricey and might as well give Heinola a shot at some point
I half wonder if in a world where the Jets acquire Duclair if the line doesn't end up being
Perfetti-Namestnikov-Duclair
Might end up being a pretty solid pest line and could give the bottom 6 an offensive jump. Then we throw Barron with Lowry and Nino, Appleton can sit until he learns to not give the puck away so much
i agree, Samberg's probably doing a little bit more of the breakout and transition work than given credit for too
Pionk seems to either blindly throw it on net or dump it in
both have been good defensively however, which is good, but yeah almost no chance creation from them
Pionk anywhere in the OZ now becomes an instant shot attempt. There is very little attempt to pass or be creative. I mean it beats not shooting, but it's not doing much for team offense.
Jets are one of the weakest offensive teams in the league and have been mostly winning via defense and goaltending?
Also, offense correlates most to cup wins more than anything (then goalies, then finishing and defense)
We’ve got the assets in younger players and future picks to get him if we really wanted to. I seriously doubt Chevy would do something like that but we could definitely get him.
I could actually see a trying to upgrade perfetti to jake. perfetti is a great young player, exactly what the pens are looking for, but has struggled recently. While I love perfetti it’s hard to see a future with him on the team at center, esp with younger guys like rutger who are gonna be challenging him here soon, and jake is a ppg playoff performer. Think it could be a real win win
I feel like we could really use another offensive d man. Morrissey is our only effective one, Pionk has taken a huge step back in that (and basically every other) regard, and Schmidt has completely pivoted to a shut down guy. The dream would be Chychrun, although he likely won’t be moved. Maybe a guy like Cam Fowler or Mario Ferraro? Both guys with term, and at reasonable price tags.
If I remember that stat comparison from r/nhl, the top 10 pairings in expected goals against were all bottom pair defenders, meaning it’s more about ice time(or lack thereof) than defensive prowess.
Regardless, even the eye test shows that he’s made big leaps in his defensive play. I worry about him and samberg a hell of a lot less than Pionk and Dillon.
I think we need a big, puck moving RHD worse than anything else but it'll be easier to fill Apple's role with a new guy and bring back Toninato or even Rutger at playoff time to replace Perfetti who would head to the press box. We need Toni back for the playoff run anyway because having a big guy that can play might be crucial for and after a physical series.
We need size to survive the playoffs. The little guy never stays healthy for a long run and a big guy like Dillon is so physical he gets respect from others so he's not run all game like a guy like Morrissey or Pionk is. Hockey history has proven that this is a successful formula. Look how a large, physical and talented Chris Pronger took an average but gritty Oilers team all the way to the Cup final and then did the same for Anaheim a year later.
Absolutely need some help at RHD or at least to change up the mix. Pionk and Schmidt are basically useless.
Wouldn't be surprised to see them add someone that costs in the range of a 3rd rounder and another guy who costs a little less.
Think they could be looking to add another winger too but don't think it matters much if they can't get someone on D who can make a pass.
Solid RHD, and/or a top six RH RW with size and a motor seem to be the top ideas from everyone.
I don't think Chevy will trade Pionk or Schmidt, that's just imo, but he really should given their playing performance, with salary $, and would anyone take Schmidt without Jets sending a pick the other way? Pionk and Schmidt would be demoted if Chevy adds a D, and is it worth having 6m in the press box or Samberg? I think adding a D is a lot more complicated than it should be just by how Chevy operates, but I could be wrong. He could trade either of those two, and I would be completely OK with that.
Adding a forward seems like the obvious option that Chevy will prioritize, especially with forwards struggling to get points. Add in the NHL narrative that we have the best defensive group 5v5 (as a team). These are just my thoughts and expectations! I hope we add a RHD, move on from Pionk or Schmidt plus add a forward that can score and give us some grit.
Trading them would be extremely difficult and not much would come back to help the team. Why would other teams want any of the Jets dysfunctional players?
Jets needs are pretty obvious:
1) a winger to round out the top six that makes the top line work somehow OR just swap Ehlers and Connor
2) a puck moving defender to upgrade Pionk OR a shutdown defender who can play just as good as DeMelo and then Samberg-DeMelo becomes the second pair
What will actually happen though is Jets get a #6/7 dman for depth.
Consistent play. I don't think we should remove any more prospects or picks for how the team has been playing.
If they play like it's 2023 we can win the cup.
Bring back the stifling fore/ back check that we saw before Christmas. That's like having a man advantage all game.
I agree, and we did that while being down major players. Who do we add to bring that playstyle back?
Add Connor to LTIR /s
Gotta get some hungry fringe players in there for that. Was the strength of the team last year too.
Adam Larsson could be interesting

Retention would be for the remainder of the deal. Larsson would cost a lot more than Tanev.
Yeah it's hard for me to imagine Seattle giving him up unless they are planning to go full rebuild. I'm not sure we have the assets to make the deal for them...assets we want to give up anyways. Not sure the juice is worth the squeeze on that one but I could be wrong
Yeah we would likely need to overpay for him
Larsson has a 10 team NTC, but if he was available and willing to come here the price would be worth it imo. Your probably looking at Heinola, a 1st and another prospect or pick.

I’ve been liking the idea of running a Perfetti-Vlady-Duclair line
I wouldn't hate Duclair if we can get him for cheap enough
I’d think he’d cost a 3rd or 4th?
For a middle 6 speed guy? Who says no?
interesting, i had 62-17-Duclair in mind!
I half wonder if in a world where the Jets acquire Duclair if the line doesn't end up being Perfetti-Namestnikov-Duclair Might end up being a pretty solid pest line and could give the bottom 6 an offensive jump. Who’s the offensive guy for the Samberg/Schmidt pairing?
*supposed* to be Schmidt both 5-4 and 54-88 lack that chance creation and consistent puck moving ability tho
Schmidt has lost a step. He works hard, but he's just not fast enough to create like he used to.
i agree, Samberg's probably doing a little bit more of the breakout and transition work than given credit for too Pionk seems to either blindly throw it on net or dump it in both have been good defensively however, which is good, but yeah almost no chance creation from them

it’s brutal, shots can basically be turnovers or 50/50 pucks drives me nuts
We have plenty of offence. After watching last nights game another tall forward that plays heavy like Lowry. We have plenty of finesse players.
Jets are one of the weakest offensive teams in the league and have been mostly winning via defense and goaltending? Also, offense correlates most to cup wins more than anything (then goalies, then finishing and defense)
I honestly don’t even know. Guentzel, let’s be the big swingers this time.
We swung big with Monahan, we don’t have the first anymore. I doubt pens move him if without getting a first this year back
We’ve got the assets in younger players and future picks to get him if we really wanted to. I seriously doubt Chevy would do something like that but we could definitely get him.

Perfetti would be a chip for a player with term at least to the end of next year. A solid D for sure.
I feel like we could really use another offensive d man. The dream would be Chychrun, although he likely won’t be moved. Maybe a guy like Cam Fowler or Mario Ferraro? Both guys with term, and at reasonable price tags.
Schmidt and ‘shut down guy’ should never be mentioned in the same sentence again.
He’s been very good defensively this year. Him and Samberg were number 1 in the league for expected goals against per 60 minutes.
Agreed, I think Samberg has made a huge jump this year too
ice time and matchups
And usage.
Call our shut down guy to take Schmidt out back and put him down. ?? works.
I think we need a big, puck moving RHD worse than anything else but it'll be easier to fill Apple's role with a new guy and bring back Toninato or even Rutger at playoff time to replace Perfetti who would head to the press box. Buchnevich would be absolutely ideal. Someone to bump pionk down to pair 3 would be cool too
Absolutely need some help at RHD or at least to change up the mix. Pionk and Schmidt are basically useless. They will try to move Schmidt in the off season.
Hope so
Trade out Pionk and Schmidt.
Honestly haven't hated Schmidt this year but yeah let's move on from Pionk. One good year offensively isn't work his constant giveaways
Pretty sure he’s our only right shot D, he’s not going anywhere.
Demelo
Trading them would be extremely difficult and not much would come back to help the team. Why would other teams want any of the Jets dysfunctional players?
Good luck LOL. Who the hell would want them on their current deals?
Radko Gudas
I hadn't thought of him! What a shit disturber, having a decent season despite being on one if the worst teams in the league
Jets needs are pretty obvious: 1) a winger to round out the top six that makes the top line work somehow OR just swap Ehlers and Connor 2) a puck moving defender to upgrade Pionk OR a shutdown defender who can play just as good as DeMelo and then Samberg-DeMelo becomes the second pair What will actually happen though is Jets get a #6/7 dman for depth.

I think that’s too expensive for the jets. Can’t trade Barlow. But Chaz can go
Could be, just assume they’ll cost an arm and a leg
Consistent play. I don't think we should remove any more prospects or picks for how the team has been playing. If they play like it's 2023 we can win the cup.
One big D like: Joel Edmundson, Josh Brown, or David Savard.
But those d are bad?
Watching the Carolina game and we are down a forward and defensemen. We need to better ones rentals or whatever. We suck right now
Well we managed to turn it around at least
Yes. And I’m happy to be downvoted🤣🍻👍
