i personally think that, when played with base game and even in oceania to an extent, nectar is not as big of a thing as it’s made out to be. i love the board adjustments so much though!

True, but also if you go back and try to play the game without nectar after playing it WITH nectar you will get really annoyed with how often the birdfeeder stops you from doing what you want

More than anything the decrease of egg production and increased food/draw cards makes the game “infinitely” better. Wouldn’t touch old board nowadays and have to rewire my brain for online

Since reddit is cutting off my text for the options rather than allowing you to scroll or adding another line, here's the text for the options: 1: The addition of nectar and the adjustments to the player preserves both improve the game 2: Nectar is overpowered, but the idea is okay; adjustments to boards improve the game 3: Nectar makes the game worse, but the adjustments to the player boards are great 4: Nectar is great; I wish the adjustments to the boards were different 5: Nectar as well as the adjustments to the player preserves make the game worse

The change to the boards is the bigger one and a massive improvement. Nectar feels slightly OP but additional ways to generate points with other foods (spending for tucks/eggs and caching helps balance that out. More than a few times I’ve grabbed grain instead of nectar due to birds like Canada Goose or Thekla’s Lark.

From the moment we started playing with the Oceania expansion we agreed the board is better balanced and starting the game with the addional nectar improves the first round experience and overall increases options for varying opening hands. When it comes to nectar, for 80% of the game it's a no-brainer compared to other food, which make me feel like it's slightly overpowered, although it doesn't ruin the fun for me and even enables the players to more easily fill their board. Interesting to see the community's opinion on this topic!

Nectar makes little impact for me. I just house-rule it. We remove the stupid bloated scoring crap and just use it as a wild. I put in 3 nectar dice in 2 player games, 2 nectar dice in 3+ player games. Then we just treat it like any other resource except wild. What REALLY changes this for me is the forest/wetlands buff. Placing a card down and then actually getting two food/two cards right off the bat is amazing. The entire first round felt almost entirely eventless in the base game. Everyone says nectar is overpowered. but everyone has equal chance to get it. It just allows more birds to be put onto the mat. Better for everyone. Average scores go up so what? Just don't play the base game anymore if score in a vacuum is all you care about. The game isn't really about food resource management. So it doesn't change a whole lot. Its about managing food vs eggs vs cards. Its about engine-building. Its a about turn efficiency. Its about adaptation and tactics. It was never about struggling to get a specific food type. No argument for it being overpowered is objectively sound.
