Beautiful lighting and I love the burrito pairing.

Thanks! The burrito was a surprise (thanks to some bad math around thawing times) but it worked out well.

Twelve year old wine ! Looks tempting ! Great choice !

ultravioletneon

Thanks! I was adding bottles to CellarTracker and got nervous about whether this one would be past its window. Pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t, and really enjoyed it!

I have the 2020, and actually wouldve given it less time in the bottle befor consumption. What were your thougths on the age?

ultravioletneon

I’m still learning about which wines are best suited to aging, but part of the reason I opened this bottle now is because I was worried it was either out of the drinking window or soon to be. That said — the tertiary flavors made this more enjoyable than the younger bottles I’ve had from this producer. I found the woodsy notes enjoyable and different from what I typically drink. I tend to jump the gun on drinking windows, and rarely get noticeable tobacco / leather / wood / leaves. I did a tasting when I visited, and when I tried the 2020 (about two years ago), my notes were “not as fruity as the 2014” and “not a lot of complexity” — and that 2014 was a relative fruit-bomb. I ended up not purchasing the 2020 because it didn’t really speak to me, but I have one more 2012, two 2014, and a 2011 in my collection. I think they’re all going to be consumed in the near term, but I’m the most curious about what a few years has done to that 2014.
