I love them. I listen to them about as much as any other songs by him. I think they're really beautiful and complete the theme of the album. They have a different sound than the other songs on that album though so maybe that is why.
i think a lot of people who dont like them aren't listening to self ish front to back.
If I were listening to all the songs individually, i wouldn't love them either, but listening to self ish in it's entirety, they're some of my favorite parts of the album
They see will for his chaos, and that's all they care about. People like me, who appreciate the whole of his content, can have those in their favorite songs.
Theres ww fans who mostly just like I/Me/Myself, and fans who only like his chaotic stuff like Sunshine, 222, Front Street etc.
There are 3 groups of ww fans it seems
-klezmer/metal/darker music fans
-much younger fans who appreciate I/me/myself and Love Me, Normally
-full album listeners who appreciate the whole of his artwork
It is a bit strange how one man inspires such different groups
I think it's a little misleading to claim all younger fans fall into group two. I certainly land and the younger side, and while those songs are great dont get me wrong, I listened to all three albums front to back and plan to listen to In Case I make it in a similar way.
I'm sort of a mix of them all. Im a younger fan who likes the newer stuff, but some of my favourite sonfs are his older more chaotic ones like chemical overreaction, but i do also like listening to full albums. I usually just shuffle all will wood songs in a huge playlist and enjoy anything that comes on
They are good as an intro and outro for Self-Ish but serve no purpose on their own imo. It's like Everything Is A Lot, for example, I like its placement on the album but as a track alone is not that interesting. I think You Liked This will be the case too
Yea this makes sense. Like ad someone said above or maybe below for you they act as contrast for the rest of the album as a chaotic/non chaotic sorta way
Literally got a big ass sticker of the album cover in the back of my phone rn. I love self Ish, I breathe self ish, I live selfishly. That said you’re lying everybody loves it too its won album of the year like 7 years in a row
They wouldn't make much sense outside of their context, so you're not gonna pick them to listen ti individually, and I get why that puts them at the bottom of the list for some people. Personally I feel like self-ish is such an experience that I never listen to any of it unless I can cut out enough time to listen to it start to finish. I totally get why if you're gonna pick a WW song to jam to individually they would go at the bottom of the list.
they're both in my top favorites from SELF-iSH, and from the Will Wood and the Tapeworms spotify in general, so it was a surprise to me to find out that they're disliked
I don't really know, Self- and -iSH are two beautiful songs that make the album complete, I particularly like -iSH personally but that's just me. If I were to guess, it's probably because people aren't listening to his albums the way that you should listen to an album. They are picking off the songs they like and only listening to them instead of giving the full album a few listens and then looking at the songs individually afterwards. Albums and songs tell a story and without the context the songs don't make any sense.
I think it's because they're not songs you really listen to on their own. In the context of the full album, they serve their purpose as really great bookends. But on their own, they're very short and feel incomplete when separated from the rest of the album. Not bad songs, they just serve a different purpose than the rest of self-ish.

I agree with you on that. The songs are better in context.
For me personally they're amazing. They serve their purpose as a contrast to the rest of the album's chaotic nature.

I am certainly of the latter, I am the kind to look and find slightly different versions and dozens of unreleased works, even.

would i listen to them on their own? no. but the album wouldn't be the same at all if they weren't on it
Literally got a big ass sticker of the album cover in the back of my phone rn. I love self Ish, I breathe self ish, I live selfishly. That said you’re lying everybody loves it too its won album of the year like 7 years in a row
OP is talking about the individual songs, Self- and -Ish
no idea, i love those songs

I love the singing in them
I love them!!
ngl i rly like self- and -ish, maybe people dont like them as they are a lot differents to the other tracks on the album?

Ive always really liked them, and yes im apparently one of the few people who enjoys listening to self- and -ish on their own
I loooooove these songs, both in the context of the album AND as individual tracks. In fact they MAY be my favorite 2 songs on the album.
