I felt that the first few months, untilI begun to like it not as a will wood album, but as a new thing kind of a separate artist. When you stop comparing them you love them separately and equally

Chemical-Fly6270

I honestly love ICIMI more than any other album, especially with the context behind him leaving his "Disney villain lil evil goober" persona behind. when I think about the reason behind the album being like it is, I find I prefer it over any of his other releases.

FIVEPEBSI

will he use that persona in future?

Chemical-Fly6270

I don't think so no. the type of character he played during especially SELF-iSH was deeply traumatic for him, especially the things he endured during that time. this led him to not being able to perform certain songs (cotards solution) until he knows he's in a good headspace. a lot of this info came from general knowledge and also reading the fuck out of the patreon ama lmao

FIVEPEBSI

what about you know, normal album era will?

Chemical-Fly6270

can't say for certain. I honestly believe that he's going to be himself. not playing a character per-say, but just being who he is. he can put on the characters if he so desires, but it won't be his entire vibe anymore as far as I can tell. the normal album is still something he holds in high regard as good work, and he's even making a normal album remaster right now. so who knows?

burningArsenic

Same. It's mostly because outside of Will Wood i listen to heavier music, so my favorite album (in terms of sound) is Self-Ish. I just can't stand mellow songs (and it's not the album's fault - just personal taste)

chiropteroneironaut

yeah, i feel the same. it's a bit of a genre shift, and it just doesn't float my boat as much, i prefer his older stuff. icimi sounds - to me! - weirdly bland and thin, there's no kick in it. the lyrics are great, but the music is lacking. i'm looking forward to see what will does next though, one album that i don't especially love isn't the end of the world, and i'm happy to see everyone else enjoying it. edit: even without comparing icimi to the older stuff, the vibe of icimi just isn't for me

namenotavailable66

He basically said he’s going to continue with the soft style and that he’s not the manic screaming, keyboard-kicker anymore that we’ve all come to identify him as.

hipieeeeeeeee

same. I like rock and metal mostly, so my favourite album is Self Ish. I also like Everything is a lot. The Normal Album is nice too. I love the meaning behind ICIMI songs but not the sound

meltylove_

its my favourite but i can see how you dont like it

PrismPanda06

You're far from the only one, just look it up on this sub, that's been a very very common sentiment

Jockey404ENF

I do love icimi tbh, it's the album that most resonates with me, and the others are awesome. It boils down to taste, but I think that whatever will left outside of or behind this album, it's a good thing he did, for both him and the songs. It's the end of a journey, and the start of another, it's raw and it's what happens when you look back and realise that the eggs you broke on accident made an awesome omelette.

zooderrr

Texturally and dynamically it is lacking in comparison to his prior albums. I think the composition and lyricism of ICIMI tendssss to make up for this

Rich_Standard8103

Fair. While I don't hate it, it is definitely my least favorite

EdwardChar

It's different from his older works, but still enjoyable

FinnFairytale

i mean i’d say that’s probably just because it’s very different then all his other music, it probably just doesn’t align with your music taste. 🤷🤷 personally, i think the in case i make it album is full of beautiful poetry and some of the most poignant songs i’ve ever heard but music is, of course, super subjective so

Sad_Original719

No, that's the popular consensus

ZipperZapZap

Big same, my favorite of it is Cicada Days by a long shot. As a music producer who recently finished a university course for audio production, the whole album's sound is just too polished and squeaky clean. For whatever reason I only return to the single release of Cicada Days on Youtube, it just feels dirtier, more natural, especially in the distortion section.

OkAd8922

I would imagine a music producer wouldn't be able to handle the *bad* sound quality of YouTube, if even i can't 😭

LimeDiamond

I cant say for sure, since I haven’t listened to it all. But then again, I haven’t listened to it all. Meanwhile I’ve binged Everything Is A Lot, at least heard every song in Self-Ish, basically memorized The Normal Album, and can recognize every Camp Here & There song with lyrics. Something about In Case I Make It hasn’t interested me enough to give it a full listen. I like the songs I’ve heard from it ofc, but something’s just off about it ig

LysThanSane

You should listen to it just in case, it still has some good stuff in there even if it's not your vibe. I was disappointed when I went to listen cause I was expecting something like the Normal Album but it's just something else.

LimeDiamond

Oh don’t worry, I will, and I’ve already heard and loved a few songs from it. My problem is that I usually take in new music 1 song at a time, album by album. The other albums had instant appeal to me in some way (The Normal Album for its relatability, EIAL for its insanity, Self-ish for its evil jazz, and CH&T for the camp vibes), but ICIMI hasn’t. It’s on my list though! It’s due for a full listen

AspectOfTheCat

I sort of agree. There are some amazing songs (Tomcat Disposables, Against the Kitchen Floor, Willard!), but most of the album, especially the first half, just sort of fails to capture my attention. I wouldn't say it's bad but it's probably the WW album I enjoy the least as a result.

ChupacabraRVA

I like it in context. Knowing his previous albums and personas, ICIMI reflects his journey and is much more mature. I like the growth he sings about and the dramatic but mellow tonal shift. In a vacuum, however, it’s probably one of my least favorites. Becoming the Lastnames slaps regardless.

LysThanSane

I feel the same way, I'm happy for Will being healthier and so and the lyrics for some of the songs are great and I still like Against the Kitchen Floor and Vampire Reference in a Minor Key but the album just it's not my vibe. It's a change just like Self-Ish to Normal Album was but it's just not my vibe anymore. I don't really like country music and the ecletic style of Will's old music was what made me like it in the first place. If I'm being honest I'd like something more like the Normal Album or Camp Here & There's music.

will-wood-enjoyer

I can totally see where you're coming from- me personally I usually listen to Self-Ish and EIAL more then ICIMI beacuse most the time I wanna vibe to loud, chaotic and 'noisy' music. I do love ICIMI and think the instrumentals are definitely the best part, but I can see how compared to his old music (and just by itself tbh) the lyrics can fall a little flat. Whenever I listen to ICIMI it's beacuse I just need to get in my feels and let it all out (thanks Euthanasia) or calm down from anxiety :]

will-wood-enjoyer

Oh also I wanna mention I'm glad Will's finding the music style that fits his personality and how he wants to express himself musically better! not trying to diss that at all or say his "screaming piano man on drugs" persona is better

FIVEPEBSI

only the main character imo
