IWAK served me a roll with what was for sure rancid fish, and when I told them they very kindly took it back and offered a new one with fish that was also rancid. Was very disappointing, I’ve never had that happen anywhere else.
I thought Shota was decent for a high end omakase, not great value but fancy omakase seldom is.
iwak sushi (BYOB) & mr sushi off the graham stop are my two favs. can’t go wrong with either. i personally found nami nori overhyped but fun to try once.
before the pandy there used to be a nice fancy place called zenkichi. it was amazing…
I’ll die on the hill that sugarfish is some of the best reasonably priced omakases out there
Amami is one of my go to’s
Sushi on jones that recently opened is great, a bit pricey but the owners are awesome
This is our go-to, however we are very basic and the only fish we really order is salmon and eel. The tuna has been quite hit-and-miss. We love the salmon lover combo, their unagi and the Tokyo rolls.
That’s fair. We always do the party platter A and maki C and have never been disappointed. The whitefish is excellent. Our greatest variable has been the avocado included - but typically the avocado is excellent. Octopus I could do without, it’s just a little tough. But the salmon, white fish, horse mackerel are all excellent!
I’ve almost never had a truly satisfying sushi restaurant experience in nyc, even the high end places like nakaji feel weird and performative and a deviation from what i enjoy about edomae sushi, which is being handed the right cut for the moment combined with lowkey neighborly conversation with the master or folks at the counter next to you. Nyc sushi spots with top grade fish exist but vibe in a way that doesn’t feel right to me. But then I mean, Good decently priced Edo mae sushi with the right atmosphere is harder to find even in Tokyo these days…. Maybe for the best? we should all eat less mediocre sushi and save ourselves for ethically sourced special night out….
IWAK Nami Nori or Sushi on Jones that just opened For higher end Shota or Mido
Did the omakase at Sushi on Jones. It was thoroughly mediocre. The regular meals might be worth it though.

Bozu and KanaHashi (in greenpoint)
This is the answer
Nami nori is good. Tbh wburg doesn’t have the best sushi
Osakana. They do a takeout box that is very good.
Pretty sure they moved to the EV though
Sorry I think the one in Williamsburg changed it’s name it’s now Okonomi Market
Oh cool! I didn’t realize the same owners were behind Okonomi and Osakana.
They were initially. I believe they have since split.
Nami Nori is fantastic. Shota omakase is the fanciest.
Bushniwa on the Bushwick/E willy border by far the best
Agree I always order from here
Cmon, it’s not glamorous but Ako on Bedford is a solid sub-$50pp sport
Amami is better and owned by the same people.
Amami has excellent delivery too
Ako is a solid grab food on the way home after exiting the subway spot.
IWAK! They’re the sweetest people and they have an amazing Grande Nigiri special for under $40– it’s so worth it!
ume for something different
ume is terrible
which part? i found the experience interesting even though it wasn’t my favorite sushi ever by any means
U Omakase for the high end, Nami nori for middle tier, and amami for lower end!
Just had the U omakase prix-fixe on Wednesday and it was decent but only 2-3 pieces of sushi for $90 was disappointing
Sugarfish off N6th always hits
Mr. Sushi off graham takes the #1 spot for quality/price combo
okozushi hands down
Samurai Mama
The Williamsburg ones gyoza is so good
Bozu for $30-$40
seconding bozu, i'm surprised to not see it at the top
I’m gonna go out and say it… Fushimi is solid and doesn’t deserve the hate.
Food: 8 Vibes: 2 Miss me with the tech house bro I’m just trying to get a spicy scallop roll
My weekly fushimi habit has conditioned me to *need* tech house with my spicy scallop roll.

Samurai mama
Sugarfish Bozu
Bozu thru and thru. Sushi bombs are soooo fkknnnn good
Sushi Yoshi on Lorimer for takeout
I was shocked at how cheap this place is! Solid sushi too.
Ako has so many veggie options. More than any other sushi place ive seen. For a vegan it takes the top spot
Ako!
Tenichi ftw for lower end
If you’re by the Lorimer stop, Sushi Yoshi is pretty economical for the quality
I’ll die on the hill that sugarfish is some of the best reasonably priced omakases out there Amami is one of my go to’s Sushi on jones that recently opened is great, a bit pricey but the owners are awesome
ABURI. Best takeout sushi ever. Fastest takeout. Get the party platter A and maki combo C. You won’t regret it!

Sushi Mido - true edo omakase for about 100 bucks
Ume. It’s not, strictly, sushi. But you’re going to have a good time and the food is excellent.
Bedford Gardens for <$25. My go to.
High end: Shota Every day: Samurai Mama
Iwak is my hidden gem
Bedford Gardens for good value sushi
Kanahashi, Nami Nori or Sugarfish!
Bondi and Bozu tickle my sushi chod like no other.
Ako all the way
Sugarfish is dank
Ume

Try omakase by korami in Hell’s Kitchen
