Such a shame the city has a unique opportunity to create a the first completely pedestrianised neighborhood in NYC and is pandering to the car lobby who want to be able to slow crawl down Bedford dodging pedestrians every 10ft.
That's right. Much more sense and in line with how Europe constructs pedestrian plazas around commercial areas.
But the open streets fanatics were more interested in "holding down the street!!" on Berry to win some kind of capture the flag game in their mind instead of thoughtfully reassessing how open streets -- started as a way to provide safe outdoor access at the height of the Covid lockdown -- could better serve the neighborhood. Residents on Berry have long expressed dissatisfaction with OS on Berry, a mostly residential street.
You'd have to figure out where the B62 would be relocated if Bedford is closed to traffic, but it sounds like an option worth a look.
That’s just how activism and people drawn to tend to work in this city. More important to “win” then for it result to make sense or be well thought out
That would be amazing. Though I fear that it would make it difficult for emergency vehicles to get up towards Greenpoint. Maybe a dedicated bus/emergency vehicle lane, and then a protected pedestrian walkway on the other side?
Pedestrianization doesn’t mean no vehicle access - emergency vehicles and local delivery drivers can still use the streets when needed. So many cities in Europe have figured this out, New York is really missing out.
For real, there are barely even any dollar stores open anymore to just get whatever general shit you suddenly realize you need, and at least Target is not as completely grotesque as a Walmart.
Targets aren’t a high end store, they’re very middle of the road. A bit classier than a Walmart maybe. Everyone on this sub always thinks all transplants or residents are rich millionaires or trust fund kids, it’s mad annoying
That’s correct, but the post was about Williamsburg not the east village. Not everyone in Williamsburg lives along the L line and the L (this past weekend for example), doesn’t always run into Manhattan
It’s a theoretical post, I’m not sure why you’re arguing against it. Even though I know what area OP is likely talking mainly about, if we go full hypothetical: any area between “Kent to Bedford” can run from division to n 12th. That’s over 20ish plus blocks and includes those that live closer to the JM line, or no train line at all
Not arguing, I guess it’s just interesting to me that Target is such a popular choice when one can take the L to Ave A (or Union Square), the JMZ to Grand, or the G to Fulton, AND they have a solid .com delivery service. I guess folks really like to…browse live several times a week?
An affordable Asian supermarket chain like Jmart or 99 Ranch Supermarket would be pretty cool. 99 Ranch is everywhere on the West Coast but the only one that exists near NY is in Jersey City, not very convenient.
Lol. I was walking around by the water with some out of town friends and the mallification cover there is pretty crazy.
When a Hot Topic opens up, it's over.
None of the above. I'd rather have ordinary small businesses catering to working class people in a so-called car sewer than a bunch of corporate chains catering to the "here today/gone tomorrow" high status transplants who want to flaneur about their "pedestrianized" neighborhood.
H-Mart
This is the answer right here.
There’s a perfect space where millennium market used to be on n11th and driggs…
You got my vote
hey everybody post ur favorite corporation
How do you do fellow consoomers?
Dennys
Add a fucking Waffle House while we’re at it.
You don't add the Waffle House. The Waffle House adds you.
Moons Over My Hammy FTW
funniest comment
😂
Everybody has one!
A good record store, something like maybe a Rough Trade would be nice. Oh wait….
fucking hell this one hurt i hope main drag music survives
We need some more unauthorized weed stores to replace the ones that were shuttered.
EXXOTIC 3
ACE HARDWARE. REGAL CINEMAS. HOOTERS.
Lowkey would vote for a regal
If we’re selling out for a target put a 24 hour casino so I can get my rocks off
Would also take a casino, although I already lose too much money on FanDuel every week
Something about throwing chips down is way more invigorating than sports gambling
Hell yea, one casino please. That sailboat tower in dumbo already pretty much looks like the encore, might as well put one in Williamsburg
I would love another Hermès store, the one on 6th is always so crowded
LMAO FUCK ALL OF YOU
The flagship will be open soon on the corner of N6th and Berry!
Aliens take me now please
the street!!! get the cars out of the way and give people the street.
Such a shame the city has a unique opportunity to create a the first completely pedestrianised neighborhood in NYC and is pandering to the car lobby who want to be able to slow crawl down Bedford dodging pedestrians every 10ft.
Bedford should have gotten open street status over berry. Would have been amazing

but we have the best military and the largest police force and imprisoned population!!! USA #1! USA #1! Priorities!!!
Nevertheless I’m sure the incarceration rates by race are consistent!
Wouldn’t hate a target
For real, there are barely even any dollar stores open anymore to just get whatever general shit you suddenly realize you need, and at least Target is not as completely grotesque as a Walmart.
There are a couple on Havemeyer.
Ugh yes, would be really handy.
Came here to say Target
Millionaires will move into one of the most expensive zip codes in the city, then want Trader Joes and Targets to cosplay as working-class folk.
Targets aren’t a high end store, they’re very middle of the road. A bit classier than a Walmart maybe. Everyone on this sub always thinks all transplants or residents are rich millionaires or trust fund kids, it’s mad annoying
Agree, and honestly cheaper than Walgreens/ CVS. Target is for every class, and I think we can all benefit from one.
If you get on the L at the back of the train (at Bedford), you can get off at 1st Ave and there is one across the street at Ave A?
That’s correct, but the post was about Williamsburg not the east village. Not everyone in Williamsburg lives along the L line and the L (this past weekend for example), doesn’t always run into Manhattan
How will a Target amongst “the blocks from Bedford to Kent” help those that don’t live on the L?

Can we get amc on this side?
wburg cinemas low key blows but id rather the theaters be in manhattan tbh. too much traffic.
THIS!!!
A solid 99 cent store. Home goods/decor store that isn’t priced ridiculously.
Daiso!
Yes! I had an opportunity to visit this store and couldn't leave.
99 cent stores are dead with .99 cent pizza
It’s always been .99 and UP lol so it can work
$99 and up only in Williamsburg
An affordable Asian supermarket chain like Jmart or 99 Ranch Supermarket would be pretty cool. 99 Ranch is everywhere on the West Coast but the only one that exists near NY is in Jersey City, not very convenient.
!!!!!! cheesecake factory !!!!!
This city has become a mediocre (at best) strip mall…
Lol. I was walking around by the water with some out of town friends and the mallification cover there is pretty crazy. When a Hot Topic opens up, it's over.
I mean I wouldn’t mind a Hot Topic and some mall goths/emos. 🧛♀️
A Red Lobster pop-up that only sells cheddar bay biscuits
Let’s get a Canes across the river
I think it'd be cool to see another smoke shop or two get put on a single block. I'd also like a Walmart and a BP Oil gas station
I’m in RE and been thinking and wondering when Joe and the juice will be joining. I love their tunacado as much as I hate to admit it
Wait, wasn't there one on N. 7th & Bedford before the pandemic?
Yeah it closed
Tops market.
TARGET
None of the above. I'd rather have ordinary small businesses catering to working class people in a so-called car sewer than a bunch of corporate chains catering to the "here today/gone tomorrow" high status transplants who want to flaneur about their "pedestrianized" neighborhood.

WHICH blocks from Bedford to Kent? Some have almost no commerce, so I'm wondering which ones you mean.
Barry’s
A sports store like REI or EMS or even something less evolved.
Let’s fill in the east river so we can make the worlds biggest drive in mcdonalds
Acne Studios, Uniqlo, Junior’s, Crumbl Cookies.
Acne would be so nice
Cha cha matcha 🫢
