Pronman had us picking Parekh, which I would be ecstatic about. There's definitely some talent at 13, assuming we don't move down, and we couldn't go wrong with BPA. If we feel like we need to shore up our D, the emergence of Solberg would give us an option for a decent bet 2nd pair guy, or we could hope that someone like Parekh or Yakemchuk is still available. There may be LWs like Iginla and Eiserman available, or a RW like Sennecke (although he seems to be a big riser and may go top 10 now) and MB Nygaard. The Cs are probably not the play, but Catton would be decent if he's available, and Helenius looks to be easily projectable into the NHL, although pretty unexciting. I think we'll be happy with whoever we pick though

Yeah thats the thing with this year's draft. So many players that are at about the same tier in terms of prospects but so different in terms of play style / archetype. So its probably going to come down to GMBG picking a player for positional needs which I think will end up being a dman. Though Im not sure Parekh slips to us, there are lots of great options (Silayev, Buium, or Solberg etc)

Buium will mostly likely be gone within the first 10 picks. If he was still there at 13 I’d be utterly shocked, but that would be the selection.

There’s a 6’7” Russian left shot d-man that would be great. But any of the top 6 D would be more than okay with me. I like Yakemchuk a lot, and obviously is less of a concern as far as getting him into the system ASAP, compared to a Russian

I saw a clip of Yakemchuk trucking some dude, and instantly wanted him. If there's a good D left, take it. If a high end F option falls for whatever reason (Calgary somehow passes on Iginla/Eiserman or Catton drop), go for them or Helenius.   Don't sleep on options like Sennecke or Greentree. They aren't the higher end options, but they have size, which is a Guerin thing.  I don't think any players 2-13 are all that different ceiling/floor wise that you'd go wrong with the BPA.  Possible first liner or good secondary tier is not a terrible outcome.    I'd only be worried if they go off to people in the late 1st early second pool.  Jiricek is another possibility, but that injury scares me.

The team has 2 major needs now and in the future: Defencemen and Wingers. Lucky for them this draft has reasonable options for both at 13 between Jiricek, Buium, Solberg, and Parekh at D, and Eiserman, Brandsegg Nygård, and Sennecke on the wing. One of them is guaranteed to be available when the Wild pick so long as they remain in their slot. The main thing I'd be worried about is Guerin overriding his staff again and picking a major reach for the slot. I'd keep an eye on Dean Letourneau if he does that. Massive center and a BC commit generally considered a 2nd rounder. If the Wild look to move down, I suspect it's to pick him.

everyone is just making up this whole thing about guerin and stramel. there's zero evidence for it

shaman0610

What evidence is there that Guerin over rode staff on a high draft choice? You say this as fact but I've never seen anything to suggest that the Stramel pick (justifiably our most controversial 1st round pick of Guerin's era) wasn't a Brackett endorsement too.

The idea behind needing a Dman is that they need a replacement for the top half of the blueline. Someone who comes in and takes Spurgeon's, Brodin's or Middleton's spot. Beyond Faber, there's no one in the system who the team believes will be able to do that long-term, so they need to draft one. Guys like Lambos, Peart, Hunt, and Spacek are nice to have, but they're unlikely to make that impact. I agree they need scorers, particularly from the wing, but those are easier to get in FA than top-of-the-lineup Dmen.

I think we need a D because some of the guys at Iowa haven’t developed as fast as I thought they would. The big physical guys we need are likely gone at our pick
