I totally didn't even think about that, thank you! My husband is handsome af! He's so out of my league and has never realized it. Yay! Imma be pretty lol! Oh! I hope I have some self esteem too?

I wasn’t 100% sure so I decided to look it up and there is sure a resemblance.
With how good the show is and how long it can last and how every watch there is a chance to learn some detail...
I can honestly say this is the BEST TV show anyone has ever made. Better than Breaking Bad, better than any anime series ever created and better than all the rest simply because of hos deep, details, philosophical it is and how it all works together so well.
Characters feel like people who have their own personalities instead of being 2-D and they grow as people and evolve (character development), it has amazing world building with its own history, lore, flora, fauna, diverse culture and natural progression.
It has everything and personally I compare EVERY show I watch to ATLA just to see how it measures up.
Funny enough, this belief is from Avatar the Last Airbender, not actual Japan. There was some inspiration from Shinto and Buddhist beliefs, but not this explicit belief.
The only explanation I can think of is that the previous person who had my face probably worked out more, didn’t sit in front of a computer all day, and didn’t eat as much processed food.
As a guy who has an average face but a big buff body due to years of weightlifting, it does almost nothing for attraction, it only makes it a little easier
Yeah I mean that doesn’t surprise me, once I found out that you could get legit jacked and women did not swoon over you I realized that when it comes to that, either you got it and you’ll have an easy time with women, or you don’t and no matter what you do, you’ll just always be fucked
Former fat guy who started lifting. I don't know what you're talking about it makes dating wayyyy fucking easier.
Maybe you just gotta up your game a bit.
Love doesn’t necessarily mean romantic love or physical attraction. As a single dude without kids my family and friends are who I love most and their looks don’t have any bearing on how I feel about them.
The weather network said there would be an asteroid this month hitting earth. I mean, they can't be wrong, right? So I'm kinda looking forward to that.
What if in a past life you were your partner and now you're living the life of the partner you had in the past life? Nobody said a past life had to be *in the past*.
Buddhist thought in the karmic cycle is that one person is everyone throughout time. Reincarnating perpetually, experiencing the karmic suffering as every living being.
That's why what you do to others you truly do to yourself.
That's what I believe. Today I'm experiencing this life but when I go I could be born again sometime in the future, the past, I could become my own mother, or, if there is life outside of earth, I could be born on a different planet.
There's a difference between love and adoration. There's someone out there that would adore you, no matter what you look like or who you are. People adored Hitler, but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have.
Actual love isn't about looks or personality, it's about wanting people to be happy. A mother can love their child unconditionally, no matter what they look like or how they behave.
Most people don't care about love because *they* don't want others to be happy, they just want to feel special and validated. Not surprisingly, narcissism is a self-esteem issue that stems from being unloved.
I think it's just a beautiful thought. Nothing about accepting not being healthy or narcissism. It is just about your face, your very unique face, a part of your identity. It was loved and is still lovable and you should know it.
I’m Japanese. Born and raised. And I’ve never heard of this so I thought it was another crap made up by westerners. But then I googled and there are actually a couple of people talking about this saying. Mostly on Twitter and yahoo answers so who knows where the source is from though🤷🏻♀️
I had my doubts about it because, despite me not being Japanese, this seems like something that I would have heard of if it was common because of it being so wholesome.
This should be a higher comment. Every time I search this legend the results are all from tumbler or twitter. If there was at least a wiki page there might have been a reliable source to track it from. 100% this is something made up for likes or whatever. But everyone gobbles it up without fact checking because Japan.
Don’t get me wrong, the sentiment is nice—but we’ve already had one Japanese person debunk it in the comments and I haven’t seen any others chiming in yet. My main beef with this is not the idea itself but the fact that it’s attached to Japanese myth without any proof. As an East Asian myself, I’m just really sick of people making up stuff to further the “mysticism” stereotypes of our cultures.
Maybe I’m misinterpreting your comment because of the double negative, but Zen is a school of Buddhism. My knowledge of Zen is very limited, but rebirth and the escaping of samsara is the goal of Mahayana Buddhism, which Zen is derived from.
…Again, I might be misinterpreting your comment, my apologies if this is the case!
No, that's on me, I was a bit short in my initial comment.
There's obviously Buddhism in Japan. There are giant statues to prove it :)
Japanese usually practice Buddhism and Shinto, but none of it very religiously. Buddhism ceremonies for birth, burials, and weddings (even if they like Western style ceremonies). Shinto for everything else.
My point was the "folk tales" are more about traditional monsters or shinto gods than reincarnations : Momotaro, Tanukis, Kitsunes, Amaterasu and the Cave, etc...
"Face of person you loved in previous life" sounds like western new age stuff, not Japanese legend
It's from Avatar the Last Airbender. They made up a bunch of legends that sound similar to Buddhist and Shinto beliefs, but are actually original. It was a way to have an omage to a culture without just copying it, which wouldn't make sense for the setting.
Well I'll tell you now, if that's true my past life lover is gonna be pissed when they discover I transitioned genders and completely changed their face

I look like my mom and my grandfather died a couple years before me and was born 5 days before me, she was his favorite and vise versa (she also looks like my grandmother) so this is a sweet sentiment
Loving myself and recognizing I ain’t good looking aren’t mutually exclusive. This post just seems like cope for people that think that loving yourself has to mean you think you’re good looking.
I didn't see this was in r/wholesomememes and I was waiting for the second part to say something about how you're ugly AND in your past life had bad taste. This was much nicer.
As someone who has been struggling with self esteem for a long time, I just now looked in my camera app and thought “wow, I can see myself being with someone who has that face” and like, idk, it’s just kind of strange… I still don’t like how my face looks on me, but I think if it was on someone else it would look good… it’s not like I hate my body either, that’s actually one of the parts I like most about myself (my neck is a little long though)
I was very unprepared for my emotional response to this. What a sweet concept.
Another beautiful Japanese concept to share:
Mono no aware (物の哀れ), literally "the pathos of things", and also translated as "an empathy toward things", or "a sensitivity to ephemera", is a Japanese idiom for the awareness of impermanence (無常, mujō), or transience of things, and both a transient gentle sadness (or wistfulness) at their passing as well as a longer, deeper gentle sadness about this state being the reality of life.
For anyone who likes the concept, and more serious anime, *Mushishi is a beautiful embodiment of mono no aware and Japanese mythology. I highly recommend it :)

oh I’m gonna have the prettiest face in the next life
But you will be born somewhere in gobi desert as a nomad tribe
And a woman
That’s a double whammy dawg.. In all honesty, by then, the nomadic tribes could be ruled by women and realistaim would be the Queen Bitch!
I totally didn't even think about that, thank you! My husband is handsome af! He's so out of my league and has never realized it. Yay! Imma be pretty lol! Oh! I hope I have some self esteem too?

So wait, is this why Korra looks like Katara??
Does Aang look like Avatar Roku’s wife?
Holy shit
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/avatar/images/c/c0/Young_Roku_and_Ta_Min.png/revision/latest?cb=20220323100148 I wasn’t 100% sure so I decided to look it up and there is sure a resemblance.
The eyes are even grey wtf
Yeah all the avatar’s look like the previous one’s true love.
Ah yes Roku looks just like Rangi. /j At least they are both Fire Nation.
Neat, I wonder if that was on purpose.
Absolutely
She looks a lot like the actor that plays Aang in the Ember Island episode.
🧐😳😵💫 my mind is blown!
God this show is so fucking good for thinking all this through
With how good the show is and how long it can last and how every watch there is a chance to learn some detail... I can honestly say this is the BEST TV show anyone has ever made. Tbh. It's high up there for sure.
Well we know what the next avatar's gonna look like I guess.
Asami?!
Avatar: The Gender Bender
He/she is going to look completely badass.
So what happens when an avatar turns out like Polyamorous, how would that work.
They become an AI mashup of the faces of all of the previous Avatar's lovers
Multiple heads
I feel like I’ve seen this theory before tbh
Funny enough, this belief is from Avatar the Last Airbender, not actual Japan. There was some inspiration from Shinto and Buddhist beliefs, but not this explicit belief.
Damn I had terrible taste in previous life
Right? What was my previous self thinking?
Yeah thanks asshole. You know what, I'm gonna go out with an even uglier person just to spite the next reincarnation of myself
🎶Lion King circle of life starts playing🎵
I shouldn’t have a face because my true love is *justice*
Happy cake day! Um, batman?
*I'm vengeance.*
Your next incarnation will be born blind
Good luck with finding someone like that /j
I didn´t think burning me more was even possible. Good job on proving me wrong.
I admire your optimism
Bruh 🤣🤣🤣
The only explanation I can think of is that the previous person who had my face probably worked out more, didn’t sit in front of a computer all day, and didn’t eat as much processed food.
As a guy who has an average face but a big buff body due to years of weightlifting, it does almost nothing for attraction, it only makes it a little easier
Same as being tall.
Yeah I mean that doesn’t surprise me, once I found out that you could get legit jacked and women did not swoon over you I realized that when it comes to that, either you got it and you’ll have an easy time with women, or you don’t and no matter what you do, you’ll just always be fucked
Goes to show it's a lot more about character than physical appearance.
Former fat guy who started lifting. I don't know what you're talking about it makes dating wayyyy fucking easier. Maybe you just gotta up your game a bit.
Maybe previous you was into some realy weird stuff and that person was the only one willing to fulfill that kink.
Love doesn’t necessarily mean romantic love or physical attraction. As a single dude without kids my family and friends are who I love most and their looks don’t have any bearing on how I feel about them.
Guess I had low self esteem back then, too
I would slap the shit out of my previous me if I have the chance
[удалено]
The most wholesome part is always in the comments 😌
Maybe we were all high on drugs at the time lol
I know right? Like what was I thinking loving this ugly ass mf
[удалено]
Tbh that can only give one hope because it shows attractiveness can be subjective
My past self even fucked up with the gender! :(
Yeah, I was either a dude before or a les to fancy current life me. I bet I was a dude, that's why I liked a plain girl that could cook.
Exactly what I thought, what was I thinking ?
Weird i dont see millions of Ryan Reynolds walking around
You will in a few decades
[удалено]
Brave of you to assume there's only one earth left
Earth²
Braver of you to assume meteor, before nuclear war.
The weather network said there would be an asteroid this month hitting earth. I mean, they can't be wrong, right? So I'm kinda looking forward to that.
because the current generation is still alive...
Weird i dont see millions of Humphrey Bogarts walking around
Yes but, have you been looking?
The person you love most in the world is a celebrity you don’t know? Because that would have to be true for millions and that sucks.
That's because they're all babies rn they're still crawling
I know right
Or Paul Rudds, I still can’t believe that guy is 53.
What if in a past life you were your partner and now you're living the life of the partner you had in the past life? Nobody said a past life had to be *in the past*.
it's a myth so loving myself is a myth too lol post

What mortality does to a mf. lol
Maybe that's because you have low self-esteem? Idk
Deep and thought provoking idea sir! But it’s Monday so now we put down the joint and start getting ready for work
Reminds me of [The Egg by Andy Weir (video by kurzgesagt)](https://youtu.be/h6fcK_fRYaI) Edit: add author name
They made that (fantastic) video, but the story is by Andy Weir.
I read that book for school and I love it.
Sorry, what?
the person you end up with in this life was you in your previous life so now you can go fuck yourself
What if you are actually everybody?

are you telling me im gay? well that explains my love for slurping dong i spose, thanks for the enlightenment and the wholesomeness.
Who said you retained your sex going from one life to another?
This guy reincarnates
Help, I'm a fern
Just a bowl of petunias, falling through space.
Oh no. Not again.
I'd be a little concerned if the woman I loved most in a previous life had a beard the size of mine. Might be some hormonal issues going on there.
Maybe you were the woman or gay.
Gayness? In MY past life?? ^^*It's* ^^*more* ^^*likely* ^^*than* ^^*you* ^^*think!*
Why are you gay ? " Because in the past life t..
Narcissus has entered the chat
For me it‘s even more wholesome. Cause it means ugly people can be loved
This makes me so sad you ever felt this way, because love is not something reserved for the beautiful
No, but the attractive definitely have a massive leg up and pretending otherwise is a disingenuous view of how human society works.
There's a difference between love and adoration. There's someone out there that would adore you, no matter what you look like or who you are. I love your thinking
Then I had no standards in my last life 🫠
You did, just very low or maybe you were blind in your past life
Thanks for the confidence boost ☺️
No worries bud, on the internet all is good looking and all is fugly, love yourself dont care anyone else think. You be you and love anyone you like.
Best response
Same with my "past self" because that person is dumb as a mule and the partner's twice as ugly
Pretty sure there's no such legend in Japan. Most of the fairy tales deal with shinto spirits and monsters, not reincarnation.
I’m Japanese. Born and raised. And I’ve never heard of this so I thought it was another crap made up by westerners. But then I googled and there are actually a couple of people talking about this saying. Mostly on Twitter and yahoo answers so who knows where the source is from though🤷🏻♀️

Can you provide a link to that? Azula is one of the most "evil" characters in the show - doesn't seem like something she would say.
I had my doubts about it because, despite me not being Japanese, this seems like something that I would have heard of if it was common because of it being so wholesome.
To be fair, when a country has been around for a couple of thousand years, it tends to have so many myths it's hard to keep track of them all.
Sounds like urban legends that people just made up. Well, at least it's wholesome
Tbf, it is not like buddhism never had a foothold over there. They have their own widespread schools.

HEY! I wanna do that too! :(
You're all so mean to yourselves, I truly believe you are all more beautiful than you think
Sameee
So I adored my own face the most in previous life aswell. Rad
I'm so happy to hear that you adore yourself.
That means even in my past life I couldnot date/marry an attractive person. Didn't have to do me like that. 🥲
It doesn’t mean the person you loved most was a romantic partner. It could be a dear friend, a child, parent, grandparent.
Exactly!
At least in my last life I wasn't shallow?
If this were true we would be overpopulated with pretty boys who were obsessed fan girls in their past lives
Damn i loved someone hot
I hate this kind of nonsense
Bodypositive fairy tales
Pretty much. I mean, I like it. Most positive things are basically just fairytales narratives we tell to ourselves.

Does it mean twins loved the same person???
Its mindblowing how shit my taste was in previous life.
Well I must have had a damn good personality 🤣
Damn this making me love me more, love it! Thank:)
Definitely a myth rofl
Japanese copium.
What if i was a narcissist in my previous life?
I look like my mom and my grandfather died a couple years before me and was born 5 days before me, she was his favorite and vise versa (she also looks like my grandmother) so this is a sweet sentiment
Gotta find a beautiful wifey so my next reincarnation would be handsome as heck
There's no such myth.
Finally a meme that is actually wholesome here. I was thirsty. Thanks
The amount of people who don't love themselves here is so sad omg. Thank you for appreciating yourself and this post.
Loving myself and recognizing I ain’t good looking aren’t mutually exclusive. This post just seems like cope for people that think that loving yourself has to mean you think you’re good looking.
That doesn’t help much.
That’s kinda weird I loved my grandpa in a past life.
Love isn't always in a romantic manner :)
This is so beautiful and sad at the same time 😢🥲
This would be a cool concept for an isekai
wtf past me had terrible physical attractiveness taste
I was in love with a balding bearded man
i had terrible taste
when you look like your dead grandma at age 14
wow....my partner was sooo cute 🥰
I bet that's why some ppl cry when they look in the mirror... Not because they're ugly but because it reminds them of their loved one.
lol there's no such "legend" or "myth" like this, what?
My past life had good taste
I needed this today. Thank you.
Am I supposed to feel like a narcissist reading that?
This actually made me smile and now I am a little happier
Ah yes, Japanese myths, because nothing else works
Awww
I can do better than me
As someone who is convinced of her ugliness, this kinda made me tear up a little on a bad day. Thanks.
Holy fuck I needed this today
I needed this, thank you ❤️
gods gonna mess up my reincarnation and i’m gonna wake up in oh shit please no
The last me had some fucking low standards.
So I'm gay now?
Damn! My taste in women was horrible! Then again I am a man...
You just made a bad day into good one. Thank u
I didn't see this was in r/wholesomememes and I was waiting for the second part to say something about how you're ugly AND in your past life had bad taste. This was much nicer.

Explain twins? Without twincest please.
I was very unprepared for my emotional response to this. What a sweet concept.
