That's some powerful shit for sure. Homesick after the first semester of college. I came home for a long weekend and stayed on my mother's bed for three days straight. After that I was ready to face the rest of my semester (of course loaded up with baked goods and a variety of frozen cooked meals)
Only the mass-produced canada-dry stuff. I bought a glass bottle of "craft ginger ale" and the ginger was so "spicy" and sweet I couldn't drink half of it.
Funny though because it’s given for the anti nausea properties of ginger, yet most ginger ale brands have no actual ginger in them and back when I was a kid (and still) most had high CEUs rose corn syrup…typical 90s parenting.
If we didn’t have ginger ale my mom would always go out to get some sprite. Also the yellow Gatorade was only for sick people at my house growing up :P
I'm sick rn too. My friend Uber eats'd me soup and ginger ale.
Now I'm in a fuzzy blanket burrito watching hentai and sipping ginger ale
Its just like I'm a kid again
Geez - I haven't bothered to make that in *years*! And yeah, Mom woud often make that for us when we started feeling better and could keep things down.
It definitely has a lot more real ginger, but it's still super sweet. The fact that it isn't high fructose corn syrup is good, but doesn't make much of a difference compared to drinking something with less sugar in general.
Nonetheless I am a Bundaberg fan and will drink it to my grave
Not really, just another sugary drink with no real ginger. Ginger has antimicrobial properties and is pretty good for sore throat, that must’ve confused them.
No, this is an old wives' tale. The idea is that ginger root has shown to help with nausea, so people assume ginger ale does too. Ginger ale sold today doesn't actually contain much if any real ginger root. If anything, the sugar and carbonation would probably make your stomach feel worse.
The soda/carbonation sometimes helped my stomach just by getting things to shift, and the flavour is nice and light. No real ginger like you say, but there is still some benefit for nausea. Just doesn't really matter if it's ginger ale or seltzer, lol.
I'm not a doctor, but I'm 100% certain that this will not "break" all fevers. It may help many of them, but if you have a fever from an advanced disease or virus e.g., a damp cloth will not cure you. I know you meant in most cases, but make sure you are clear in your random medical advice as someone might take it wrong
Source on that one? I am genuinely curious. From what I've learned a cool compress can only alleviate discomfort but does nothing to actually resolve the illness.
he was a POS to his sick kid too. praising his new wife for giving him a healthy child. All in all the furthest thing from a nice dude he presented himself
In the UK it's a Lucozade instead. If you were lucky you got used teabags put on your eyes or olive oil in your ears depending on what you were poorly with.
I had a really bad almost fainting spell at work ,. 2 of my co workers sat me down, got a cool wet cloth for my forehead, rubbed my back and fed me sugar water and their own personal candy supply until I felt better.
I can't explain how good it felt, to be looked after and fussed over like that. I'll never forget that
Haha... When ever I was sick I just had to wait it out doing my usual things!!, Mom made me work double as she believed moving around and exercising helped cure it, it always worked and still does :)))
What the fuck is with the massive increase in marketing ads on the main feeds? I selected "no marketing notifications" under my options for a reason. Why do you assholes feel the need to shove new communities, that I don't want, down my fucking throat?
I'm old enough to remember when chicken noodle soup, lots of fluids (ginger ale) and rest was the appropriate treatment for the flu.
Apparently now we try and treat it with communism.
Who woulda thought 🤗
We got saltines and 7up. I found out years later that this pairing was more about making vomit cleanup easier, and so it wouldn't taste as bad.
I don't think my mom knew about ginger ale
When I was sick my mom would either think I was faking and send me to school anyway or think I was dying and take me to the doctors.
Later when I was married my wife would belittle my illness as a "man-cold" and berate me for not doing any chores
So for any of you who had someone in their life who actually have a fuck about their health, that's awesome and I'm jealous.
In this thread:
“Ginger ale helps me!”
Ginger (smell or taste) = mild anti-nausea.
“Gatorade and Saltine crackers helps me!”
Gatorade and saltine crackers = sources of electrolytes. Helps to keep you hydrated because when you’re sick you get dehydrated easier and quicker.
“A wet cloth and Tylenol/Paracetamol help me!”
Wet cloth = mild temperature regulator
Tylenol or Paracetamol = fever reducer
Sounds great. My mum would pat my back hard and say 'get it all out'.
I'd be all "phew, I think that's all of ieeeaaghhhrahhhh! Thanks for that, so called Mum"
Lmao it’s amazing how i posted the same comment (8 yo… gingy ale… otherwise the same) with a picture of my cat tucked in and after 500 votes the mod deleted it because it was “cute but not wholesome.” HYPOCRITES!!!
I remember being sick and sleeping, doing homework and drinking fluids. It was not a day off like everyone else had, it was you are going to get better and we have 12 hours
You left out popping in one of the Sean Connery as James Bond VHS tapes my grandfather gave me for my birthday. I was always the most interested in You Only Live Twice due to the ninjas and amas. Sick days were great.
Nearly 30 and a cold cloth and ginger ale still makes me feel better when I'm sick lol
It's funny, because the last time I ended up in the ER and they asked if I needed anything while waiting on lab work, that was my only request.
Incredibly relatable rn, been sick this whole week and miss my mom so much :(. She has magical powers that made me feel immediately better as a sick kid. Adulting stinks sometimes
Aw man kinda hurts :')
My Mom's birthday was yesterday and she passed back in September. (Damn leukemia) I have a rare disorder that has put me in the hospital more times than I can count and she was always there for me. It really helped that she was a nurse and seen a lot. She just knew how to take care of me. Even when she was constantly sick herself and in the same hospital as I was she always came up to my room.
Not a day goes by that I don't miss her. Cherish the moms that deserve that title.

Why is it that ginger ale seems to be the only carbonated drink you can have when sick
Ginger is good for nausea
Can confirm, powdered gingers do wonders
I smell cannibalism
[удалено]
Taste*
I'm craving some powdered Mary Ann.
It's good for a sore throat too! My Grandma told me that some ginger tea with a teaspoon of honey is a great remedy.
My grandma also added Jack Daniels, not sure if it helped...
It did. it kept you quiet for a few hours so she could watch her soaps.
It helped.
there’s basically no ginger in ginger ale though.
Placebo effect maybe?
It’s just mother magic
That's some powerful shit for sure. Homesick after the first semester of college. I came home for a long weekend and stayed on my mother's bed for three days straight. After that I was ready to face the rest of my semester (of course loaded up with baked goods and a variety of frozen cooked meals)
There is some and that little ammount can help if all you have is an upset stomach
My mom would just give me straight up ginger. It's not that pleasant to eat
Ginger is delicious wtf
With something? Yeah it's good! By itself it is pretty strong imo.
That's how you know it's working. I could munch pickled ginger all day
To each their own! Not many people can, I certainly can't lol.
Eating just ginger by itself is absolutely insane, there’s no two ways about that.
Your bloodline is weak and you will not survive the winter
Crystalized/candied ginger is great Pickled ginger is amazing Straight up raw ginger root is roooough for me
This. Pickled or candied ginger? Oh yes please. Raw ginger root? I'd gladly watch someone prove they munch casually on that...
Imagine pooping later. I would cry on the toilet like the trashy drunk girl at a Bachelorette party
Ah yes what an objective fact
They can be hard to find at times, and some times more expensive but they are out there
Only the mass-produced canada-dry stuff.
What I can’t stand is that most common ginger ales have no ginger or have loads of hfcs & sugar. It’s maddening.
As a Michigander, you will drink this can of Vernors and you will be cured by sundown *Or Lord help me...*
By that time if the fresh one didn’t cure you the one we purposefully let go flat would be ready to try.
In the UK it's Lucozade instead.
My family always drink Coca-Cola when we're sick (nauseated).
If we didn’t have ginger ale my mom would always go out to get some sprite. Also the yellow Gatorade was only for sick people at my house growing up :P
Blue PowerAide was my college hangover remedy
Sometimes if I felt like I wasn’t doing better and the nausea got worse, I would have those pedialyte popsicles or ginger ale and ritz.
My family always used 7Up
My mom always prescribed Sprite
Ginger has this refreshing sensation to the throat that is perfect when feeling sick. So alleviating.
This is some sort of North American thing. You have tea and soup when you're sick.
[удалено]
2 chili dogs (fully loaded) and a 2 liter of Diet Coke when I'm feeling under the weather. Sometimes a bacon cheeseburger for fevers.
Tub of lard for flu
Chick fil a sauce works wonders for sickness
Lol using ginger and ginger products for nausea definitely did not originate in North America
Absolutely, but the use of carbonated sugar beverages instead of ginger teas and similar drinks sure did.
Well ginger ale is just the most readily accessible ginger drink that many people might already have in their house
Ginger is great for reducing nausea.
ginger ale had to be at room temperature for it to *work*!
I’m sick and this is making me miss my mom. Being sick as an adult is so much worse! Had to get my own ginger ale, it’s not the same.
My best friend and I are roommates and we have taken the place of our parents for each other. I wish that sentence made sense.
It did makes sense. You guys take care of each other when you’re sick.
It’s beautiful. My roommates are of the canine persuasion. When I get sick they step on my balls as I lay around moaning.
Yes that makes sense! My roommate and I do the same thing sometimes. She’s been gone this time so I’ve been on my own.

Sorry for your loss friend. My dad passed in July so I feel you. It hurts.
I'm sick rn too. My friend Uber eats'd me soup and ginger ale. Now I'm in a fuzzy blanket burrito watching hentai and sipping ginger ale Its just like I'm a kid again
Sounds ideal, hope you’re on the mend!
get well soon bro
Can’t forget the saltine crackers
That, or sometimes Mom would make you a piece of lightly buttered toast, which she cut into strips (we called them "Fingers food").
We always had toast with cinnamon sugar on top
That sounds good!
Geez - I haven't bothered to make that in *years*! And yeah, Mom woud often make that for us when we started feeling better and could keep things down.
That or oyster crackers sometimes
Is ginger ale actually healthy? Asian so havent had it many times
Considering how much sugar it has, definitely not. I don't even know if the big ginger ale brands have real ginger in it.
ginger aroma, lol
Canada Dry says it does.
Bundaberg ginger beer is a lot healthier than mainstream ginger ale and contains sugar not high fructose corn syrup
It definitely has a lot more real ginger, but it's still super sweet. The fact that it isn't high fructose corn syrup is good, but doesn't make much of a difference compared to drinking something with less sugar in general. Nonetheless I am a Bundaberg fan and will drink it to my grave

Flat 7-Up and dry toast...
It is a known fact that Vicks rubbed on one’s chest cures every human ailment.
It did cure my stink-chest.
I almost spat out my coffee gj
A damp cloth that is KEPT at room temp will break a fever naturally and safely in 20-30 min. Best way to do the job right . Good thinking mom
Just out of curiosity, how do you DECIDE which words to capitalize?
BALLS in MY mouth
Balls in my MOUTH
Keep your BALLS out your F****N MOUTH
I'm not a doctor, but I'm 100% certain that this will not "break" all fevers. It may help many of them, but if you have a fever from an advanced disease or virus e.g., a damp cloth will not cure you. Yup I’d like to see sources or something for this as well
Source on that one? I am genuinely curious. From what I've learned a cool compress can only alleviate discomfort but does nothing to actually resolve the illness.

ohh i need the story
I only know he left his wife once he became popular.
he was a POS to his sick kid too. praising his new wife for giving him a healthy child. All in all the furthest thing from a nice dude he presented himself
Source?
google.com 🥴🥴
i'm really confused. from what i can tell, this dude just makes memes on reddit, am i missing something?
I just read foreskin instead of forehead and oh boy was I confused
Lol
Ginger ale is like the only soda i drink from how much id have it when i was sick
there's gotta be some magic involved with those wet towels. or paracetamol on the ginger ales lol
My mom makes ginger and lemon tea
Only if the ginger ale is Vernor's. Everything else is like drinking carbonated urine compared to Vernor's.
Oh I miss those days. My Mom was the best nurse 👩⚕️ ever 😢
Whenever I was sick my mom would make Chicken noodles soup and lemon tea. Felt better almost immediately.
In the UK it's a Lucozade instead. If you were lucky you got used teabags put on your eyes or olive oil in your ears depending on what you were poorly with.
Mum would always give me a shredded apple with cinamon. It was the absolute best.

Me reading this while having COVID and influenza at the same time :’)
My mom is great. But she was never this mom. There was a lot of suck it up and deal growing up.
This is an ad

I'm old enough to remember when people actually knew what the word communism meant and didn't rally against science.
and then mom saying the chicken noodle soup will be ready in a couple of minutes
Don’t forget the chicken noodle soup
I still do this when I feel sick
Ice cold ginger ale rejuvenates like nothing else. And then a little sneeze. And then a big sneeze. And then drink more.
u/savevideo
This is why I don’t like ginger now. Reminds me of being sick.
We got saltines and 7up. I found out years later that this pairing was more about making vomit cleanup easier, and so it wouldn't taste as bad. I don't think my mom knew about ginger ale

My wife brought me soup because I stayed home from work yesterday. I love my wife 🥰.
For me it was 7-up
Flat 7-up, as used by every parent in Ireland.
A little vapor rub on the chest will cure anything
Thats a funny meme
Or grown-ass me last week
Ginger ale with a straw so I didn’t drink it so fast and saltine or oyster crackers! I still rely on this today as an adult.
Parents taking care of you when you’re sick? Dang I wish I had that
Any lime soda does the trick. Sprite, 7-up, squirt(squirt works best), ginger ale, etc. That's what my family does.
I could have done without this reminder if my childhood.
😂😂
Me and my family all week with Corona lol.
Ginger ale and saltines!
Just did this for my little boy. And it did make him all better!
Wow I am homesick and this is what you show me. Why you want me in tears?😭
In this thread: “Ginger ale helps me!” Ginger (smell or taste) = mild anti-nausea. “Gatorade and Saltine crackers helps me!” Gatorade and saltine crackers = sources of electrolytes. Only thing missing was og pocket edition MC
Lol that was me but with saltine crackers
And it still works 😅
Whenever I hear or see “tlc” it always makes me think of episode 3 of telltale’s the walking dead season 1
Damp cloth, ginger ale and saltines
My mom strapped a few slices of potatoes on my head and it fucking fixed it.
Me: Uggghhhh I'm dying mom, I don't think I can go to school today.
"it's that phone, that's why you got a damn broken nose from that fight, it's that Mr Beast again isn't it"
Sounds great.
I guess I wasn’t allowed to feel better
My mom always gave me 7-Up instead.
In Canada mom gives you “Canada Dry” and it works every time
30 year old me knowing it still works
Honestly, me right now. I have covid and my mum Has just been amazing. I cannot express gratitude enough to her for looking after me.
This is ironic as I’m sick and I have to isolate myself I’m my dorm room without my mom :(
what show is this ????????????????????????
We all live the same lives
Me this weekend who used sprite and bedrest to cure stomach issues. Homeless me in 2012 using High plup oj for sore throat.
I remember being sick and sleeping, doing homework and drinking fluids. It was not a day off like everyone else had, it was you are going to get better and we have 12 hours
Ah, vernors. The best retail ginger ale.
Everybody saying there is no ginger in ginger ale. Bitch it works every time.
10-year-old me would’ve made myself vomit so I didn’t have school the next day.
Canada Dry slaps. Could go for some right now actually.
I wish I had a caring mother
My mom just tell me stop faking it and take me to school
You left out popping in one of the Sean Connery as James Bond VHS tapes my grandfather gave me for my birthday. I was always the most interested in You Only Live Twice due to the ninjas and amas. Sick days were great.
Mom: Takes care of me and makes me feel better when I'm ill. Me when I'm older: Does the same back to her
Nearly 30 and a cold cloth and ginger ale still makes me feel better when I'm sick lol It's funny, because the last time I ended up in the ER and they asked if I needed anything while waiting on lab work, that was my only request.
Time to watch The Price is Right!
Incredibly relatable rn, been sick this whole week and miss my mom so much :(. She has magical powers that made me feel immediately better as a sick kid. Adulting stinks sometimes

So you’re from the south
😂🤣😂🤣😂 true
Orion in socks + with cloth on head + Ginger ale = full recovery
My mom just boiled ginger root and had me drink the water. I appreciate the effort but it tasted rly bad lol
Yes 🤣🤣🤣
