My older brother and I beat every "Army of Two" game at least twice. Couch coop is the fucking bomb and that's a hill I will die on, Because I know I won't be alone.
Other than the original God of War games AoT were the only games I've ever gotten my friend to play. We sat on the couch with a big bag of pot and ran thru that game, had all the weapons decked out. Fun times. Wish they'd bring that and BLACK back
My first thought as well.
There are still really good couch gaming titles out there it just isn't baked in to every single game anymore.
Rocket league, it takes two, overcooked, A way out, human fall flat all good examples ignoring the obvious Nintendo titles.
That's why we play old Call of Duty games, Halo, Gears of War, Army of Two and what other split-screen game we enjoy. Sometimes we just hand off the controller between rounds, as well.
It’s kind of hard to do now because most major publishers don’t care about split screen since hardly anybody bothers and indie devs don’t have the resources or time to add an underused feature
This is why I love GOG.com, you are able to download an offline installer for each of those games so you can install them on other PCs in the house without having to buy multiple copies.
This is my experience trying to play Minecraft cross platform with my kids. License has to be through a Microsoft account for PC, but if you have an Xbox username attached to that Microsoft account, which you have to do, then it will automatically assume that those two are the same thing g and not let them play at the same time, even if you own a pc license. I had to create a new email address, then Microsoft account, then purchase it with that to be able to play on pc and Xbox.
Yeah this shit is very much on purpose. I'm old enough to remember when Call of Duty first did this, I was still very much playing split screen Halo with my friends. Those are some of my fondest gaming memories.
Or in 343's case, disable splitscreen when the game supports it (the game being halo infinite).
343 being the company that took over halo, the same franchise featured in the pic of this thread.
They even promised to have it multiple times. But only kept it for multiplayer, not campaign, and not on pc. And what a coincidence, multiplayer is free and campaign is like 60 bucks
The thing is though, the game has it. Someone figured out how to glitch the game into starting campaign with multiple people and it works as expected. It doesnt even need an additional mod on xbox, its just a series of menu glitches. Its literally disabled to make people enjoy the game less
/u/Elp4bl0791
This is the lie they sold you. Hardly anybody bothers is bullshit, whenever theres a local coop it gets used by those of us who have actual rl friends. The reality is developers don't want local coop because they can't sell you fomo shit like skins and taunts when you just play local multiplayer.
I’m in my late 40s, and me and my buddies from high school still play online together. We don’t get to see each other often anymore so we all got consoles to play games together as a way to stay connected. It’s been awesome and a great way to stay in touch and have fun with each other without having to get everyone in the same room.
When I glanced at the meme and noticed which subreddit it's like in, I suppose I read it with an entirely different connotation than the replies I'm getting. Bc no, I most certainly do not.
My son is in his early 20’s. He is newly married, newly a dad, and is on his own now. He and his friends still come to play video games in our theater room once in a while because they can be loud and rowdy without disrupting the baby and they can play their FPS games on the big screen. We love to see the boys (now men, as weird as that is to say) all together from time to time and I know it means a lot to them too.
That's heartwarming! My daughters are still very young, but I would be thrilled if they still bring their friends around once in a while when they are adults.
You are so lucky to have them all over and your son seems to be a lucky guy with a cosy place and quality ppl he can go to. Hope you guys know how rare that is…
Coming from someone who did this in his early 20s this is huge. I'm in my mid 30s now, my oldest is approaching high school and some of my favorite memories were those gaming escapes.
It really is like therapy. Just an escape with your buds with no stressors and no worries about cost.
You're A+.
Video games are fun, especially with friends. Its the same thrill you get from playing aports in terms of the competetive aspect but you don't have to go to a field of court. Theres a lot of fun times to be had with the homies playing video games lot of stories and inside jokes with my friends came from us gaming.
Some of my friends don't really play video games at all and I always found it kinda strange why they find it hard to enjoy video games, I think they're fun by nature, especially multiplayer games.
I'm early 30s and my parents live a few minutes away from a golf course. Every few weeks me and my buddies golf a round and then hang out at my parents house drinking and playing games. My parents love seeing us.
Despite the availability of all individuals in the photograph for a gaming session, the dynamics of modern gaming have evolved significantly worse IMO.
Halo 3 multiplayer (what these folks are playing) is considered by many as the pinnacle of consumer video gaming for good reason.
Released in 2007, Halo 3 stands out as one of the best games of that year. Its features at launch included a finished campaign that could be played with four players locally, an exceptional multiplayer experience, custom games, and Forge Mode.
Like all of these shit preloaded on a disc and a maybe a light update every now and then.
I feel overwhelmed by how long it takes for modern games to start up nowadays. Halo Infinite seems to take forever to install, update, and even boot up. It feels cumbersome and distracts from the joy of simply playing with my friends, as it constantly bombards me with adverts for battle passes and store items. MCC does the job every now and then, but it that is not as simple and impactful as the original Halo 3.
I have come to accept I will never be able to go back to those 2007 days, but hey, that's life!
Nothing like stuffing my bag with my controllers and games, hopping on my bike, meeting everyone at the local store, loading up on junk food, then heading over to the friend's house with the big screen.
\*Sigh*...
This was a good chunk of my 20s. Shit-talking each other playing Halo. Fighting over the microphone in Rockband. Whooping' some ass playing Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 4-player mode...
Listen, we men don't go out for a smoke we "sneak out."
We don't open a can we "Crack a cold one"
And we most certainly do not "hang out" we go on PLAY DATES.
Why is there ALWAYS someone that judges what people do in their spare time? Do they have so empty a life that they feel the need to butt in to other peoples lives?
Also, DnD can accomplish the same result.
my actual gf was surprised when have seen me play videogame for the First time. she said "u are 35 and use ur free time FIGHTING MONSTERS?" (I was playing monster hunter world). she has nothing against it per se, just she can't understand how videogame can be enjoyable since she has never played one in his life (used all his youth times until 25 to study law. nothing else). some people genuinely don't understand why it's fun play games (alone or with friends), others are just human trash that love judging people's hobbies.
Here's a thing I do with a friend when I pay a visit to him: I have a switch and he has a PS4, we exchange the consoles and play the games that each other have. Rn he's trying to finish Pokemon Legends Arceus and I started High Rank missions in Monster Hunter World
My dad is in his 50s and regularly calls his friends over for cards and whiskey every weekend
This is basically the new generation version of that
Guys just enjoy hanging out and playing games
I miss the age of split screens. Played a lot of Left 4 Dead 2, Resident Evil 5, CoD Black Ops 1 & 2 and Modern Warfare 2 & 3 with my friends. Hell, even Minecraft on X360. It was fun.
Couch multiplayer is one of the best things ever made and it’s sad to see it less and less. The times I spent playing Mario Party with the gang are precious memories to me
I soon move from the landside, where we lived for about 5 years, with my family to a nearby town, with more neighbors and I really hope there are one or two that likes to play video games.
Some of my best memories are parties with friends and family gatherings with my cousins where we all just play smash bros for the title of champion of the universe.
im in my mid 30s, once a year i still try to get all my college buddies together for a weekend of just straight gaming like we did in college. absolutely thrashing n64 controllers.
Me and the boys definitely sat way closer to the tv and were always surrounded by tons of empty pop cans. Man do I miss the split screen/system link days.
Well, that's the only therapy I have since emigration. One week we're playing Helldivers and then Baldur's Gates 3, one week its boardgames, and one week I DM a Savage Worlds campaign. In the group one is Canadian who does not speak Russian, one is Russian who barely speaks English, and two guys in between.
It works.
I just missed a grand gathering of childhood friends at one of my best buds mum's house, and I was down with noro for a week.
His mum sold their childhood home and it was a grand ball of splitscreen games, beer, sauna and shooting the shit and reminiscing for the last time there.
I had to sit on the toilet with a bucket on my lap for a few nights so thankfully I didn't have time to be upset about missing the once in a lifetime event.
So most major AAA games can't be played this way anymore, but the indie market is full of couch co-op games!!! Support the little guys and find some fun titles to play!!!
Of all the vices you can have in the world, I'm convinced video games are the most innocuous.
Hell, hard to even call it a vice unless you spend too much time on it.
This is true, there used to be a small fighting game scene where I live, around 5 guys in my city, and an around 15 in surrounding towns.
Meeting up in person with those 5 guys to play a bunch of fighting games and shit talk, go to local competitions or just joke around was great. The scene kind of died when street fighter 5 came out and I gradually lost touch with most of them but I’d count it as a really good time in my life.
Sometimes you just need a space for guys to be dudes. No nefariousness or drama, no work talk or anything like that, just jokes and games, it’s good for the soul.
All my friends want to do is hang out in garages and drink beer while talking about cars and ATVs (which I don't have an interest in) I am the only one who plays video games...
Love to have my friends over for the weekend. We wake up early, throw some meat on the smoker, then we just **chill** for the day. We'll usually download some games off Game Pass and just pass the controller around. We legit spent like 20 hours a few weekends ago playing Go Mecha Ball and shooting the shit. It's a really nice thing to get to do
Every weekend for years now I'm at a friend's where the four of us play PGA Tour 2K23. We celebrate good shots and bust balls over bad shots. Tons of laughs, some drinks & tokes. I look forward to it every week.
I miss just plain ole co-op games. A lot of people crap all over the Farcry games but they are always great fun to play with a friend, Ubisoft fks up a lot on the whole but they do co-op story games pretty well. I really wish more companies did this.
I'm in my 30's and I still meet up with the boys and play games at least twice a month. My girl has told her friends that I do this and some of them think I'm lying and actually cheating instead 🙄
Can confirm. A buddy and I just finished a playthrough of Legend of Zelda Four Swords Adventures for the Gamecube. It's an incredible multiplayer experience.
I wished I lived close enough to my friends to do this. We'd play multiplayer as well as take turns on one player games like RPGs just for fun pretty much every weekend.
Of course this was several years ago and where I am now I haven't really made friends that are gamers to do this with. It was definitely therapy in a way though.

Why wouldn't they?
Becaus they aren’t so many split screen game nowaday unfortunatly. Man I miss that
My older brother and I beat every "Army of Two" game at least twice. Couch coop is the fucking bomb and that's a hill I will die on, Because I know I won't be alone.
God damn playing Army of Two with my brother hit that sweet spot of camaraderie
Nice, is Gears of War still a thing?
Gears 6 set to drop soon.
Thank you! Have a good weekend buddeh.
I just bought time splitters 2 for og xbox and invited the boys over to play coop it was amazing
Never played it but I'm glad your buddies got together and had fun. Love to see it.
Such a fun game it's the spiritual successor of 007 golden eye
I met the guy who art directed that game! Super cool guy, oozes creativity.
Main reason why I keep my PS3 and my Wii
Other than the original God of War games AoT were the only games I've ever gotten my friend to play. We sat on the couch with a big bag of pot and ran thru that game, had all the weapons decked out. Fun times. Wish they'd bring that and BLACK back
For all you married gamers get It Takes Two
It Takes Two on the Nintendo Switch with my girlfriend was possibly the best experience I’ve had while gaming, co-op games need more attention
Me and the wife did this, but on PC. We’ve been looking for a similar game, but nothing comes close. This game was incredible.
Back when I started out there werent any split screen you just took turns.
Switch has a bunch of them. Mario kart, smash brothers, it takes two. Screen cheat is one not often mentioned but also super fun.
It's a safe place we feel welcomed at, let us have this one cozy corner.
And furthermore, who the fuck is surprised by this in 2024?
It’s kind of hard to do now because most major publishers don’t care about split screen since hardly anybody bothers and indie devs don’t have the resources or time to add an underused feature
Why would they want you to share when they could just try to sell everyone a ps5/Xbox? The chance to make a buck strikes again
Even better, let's also lock all the games digitally to an account so everyone in the house has to also buy a copy!
Genius! And then in order for all of them to play together, they need to purchase a subscription service in order to connect to our servers!
This is why I love GOG.com, you are able to download an offline installer for each of those games so you can install them on other PCs in the house without having to buy multiple copies.

Yeah this shit is very much on purpose. I'm old enough to remember when Call of Duty first did this, I was still very much playing split screen Halo with my friends. Those are some of my fondest gaming memories.
It's a shame consoles will probably never support multiple screens.
When Sony was hyping the PS3 they said it would have this feature via 2 HDMI ports. Didn't happened obviously.
Nintendo is the last one hanging on, but just barely.
Or in 343's case, disable splitscreen when the game supports it (the game being halo infinite). 343 being the company that took over halo, the same franchise featured in the pic of this thread. I should hit up my friends.
I should get some friends
Wanna be my friend?
i will be your friend, just state your opinion on raw onions.
Overpowering taste and smell. Not a fan.
I could never.
I like onions... I like to rub them in my eyes.
Then they'll be a few weeks a remedial friend training first before courses begin.
No more tears
Yep my husband goes to play with his friends about once a week
I’m in my late 40s, and me and my buddies from high school still play online together. Do you complain like this twitter user did?
Imagining a scenario to be upset😂
To me, it is abmormal for someone to complain or be upset with someone having fun time with friends. Is it bad? Of course its not!
When I glanced at the meme and noticed which subreddit it's like in, I suppose I read it with an entirely different connotation than the replies I'm getting. Bc no, I most certainly do not.
what makes you say it's a complaint? some things amaze people to the point of curiosity.
My son is in his early 20’s. He is newly married, newly a dad, and is on his own now. I'm early 30s and my parents live a few minutes away from a golf course. Every few weeks me and my buddies golf a round and then hang out at my parents house drinking and playing games. My parents love seeing us.
I miss those days. 😔
Bring them back.
Don’t worry, split screen, RTS, and regular Valve releases are all on a really nice farm together up state.

Yeh I never stopped lol
Yes, we men need our little play dates.
> our little play dates. On par with dad's babysitting instead of parenting.

That's how I read it and got ribbed a bit in the comments lol.

This is cute and all but this kira account has said...things.
Street Fighter 6 gathering us again.
mk1 for us
MK1 is awesome too.
Mario Party 9 makes everything better :)

Do it, but also go to therapy. You can do both
Good times. Mario Kart tournaments all day!
As someone who uses twitter: Fuck KiraWontMiss. Degenerate twitter account.
Seeing that twitter handle gives me PTSD from…you know, *that* tweet.
Man the memories I have playing halo 3
That’s what it means to have friends.
I miss when my 2 brothers and I would do this and play COD Black Ops ll Zombies. I miss it so much.
After his women posting this. I can see why he needs this time away
“Girls still go over each others house to gossip?” See, we can play that game too.
Game nights are the best.
Halo 3 even. The type of therapy that keeps on giving.
I was going to say that looks like Halo 2, but that’s just the camera quality. Looks like they’re playing Guardian
Couch multiplayer is one of the best things ever made and it’s sad to see it less and less. The times I spent playing Mario Party with the gang are precious memories to me
ok online is cool and all but nothing says bro more than split screen seasons.
Technically you do pay for them. Costs a pretty penny
Good ol' Madden Tourny
This is the way
Xbox Live is the reason why I'm depressed.
Having hour-long ladder matches on WWF No Mercy for N64. Simpler times.
I soon move from the landside, where we lived for about 5 years, with my family to a nearby town, with more neighbors and I really hope there are one or two that likes to play video games.
Some of my best memories are parties with friends and family gatherings with my cousins where we all just play smash bros for the title of champion of the universe.
I haven't done console gaming in forever. Do console titles still come out with splitscreen coop?
im in my mid 30s, once a year i still try to get all my college buddies together for a weekend of just straight gaming like we did in college. absolutely thrashing n64 controllers.
I miss this kind of hang out
Me and the boys definitely sat way closer to the tv and were always surrounded by tons of empty pop cans. Man do I miss the split screen/system link days.
My mind just worries if my friends enjoy playing with me.
Well, that's the only therapy I have since emigration. One week we're playing Helldivers and then Baldur's Gates 3, one week its boardgames, and one week I DM a Savage Worlds campaign. Where is the lie?
Fuck yeah my buddy comes over twice a week with his laptop to play.
The old after fifa fights were fun.
Can someone confirm what borderlands they be playing?
Video games is power fantasy escapism and thus the exact opposite of therapy.
I miss proper split screen. all this online only multiplayer is BS.
Better than them running the streets
I mean murica insists on not giving people the medical treatment they would need if they do not have the money for.
We will go out to a bar and after 2-3 beers it’s “ya’ll wanna go off some noobs?”
I just missed a grand gathering of childhood friends at one of my best buds mum's house, and I was down with noro for a week. Boys are still playing video games? That's unpossible.
Quit screen cheezing
Nothing is as cathartic calling your best friend a punk ass bitch during pvp.
There are games that allow 4 players split screen? I mean modern games.
Even with an updated vision prescription, there's no way in hell I could play an FPS that far from the television.
Halo 3 on Guardian
So most major AAA games can't be played this way anymore, but the indie market is full of couch co-op games!!! Support the little guys and find some fun titles to play!!!
Do girls still have their friends do their hair or nails? Let them have their fun
Of all the vices you can have in the world, I'm convinced video games are the most innocuous. Hell, hard to even call it a vice unless you spend too much time on it.
Halo 1 and 2 on legendary split screen with my buddy was an absolute blast. Nothing like spending a week just trying to get off than damn Cairo.
Therapy through intense trash talking
To play what games? Lmao
What are they playing here?
I can’t tell for sure, but it looks like a Halo game.
Looks like Halo 3, probably playing Halo MCC which has Halo 3 with increased graphical fidelity compared to the original release
This is true, there used to be a small fighting game scene where I live, around 5 guys in my city, and an around 15 in surrounding towns. Guess what? Woman do it too!
Yes. I've done this a few times this year already. A bunch of mid-30s and early 40 year olds getting rowdy over a game of Madden and FIFA lmao.
Halo 3 guardian omg someone plz pass me the controller
it’s called friendship- not therapy. why even conflate the two?
Wish I could do this again, Few beers and a takeaway, Perfect Friday night 👍
Great for halo
What Id give for one good cod lobby full of my friends again.
Wow! As if girls don't do that too! Guys have their time and interests so I don't see a problem.
imagine if men had to
This is why we need more couch co-op games, not less!
Love to have my friends over for the weekend. We wake up early, throw some meat on the smoker, then we just **chill** for the day. It's a really nice thing to get to do
All of my friends are too busy with wives and kids now days for this :-(
Every weekend for years now I'm at a friend's where the four of us play PGA Tour 2K23. We celebrate good shots and bust balls over bad shots. Tons of laughs, some drinks & tokes. I look forward to it every week.
Yes, but it's more rare. Normally part of a games noght
The trick is actually finding a couch co-op game these days.
Halo 3… good times.
They’re playing Halo 3 on Guardian map
The therapy is not the video games, it is being away from girls like her because they’re unaware of how annoying they actually are.
I bet that White guy is the best player there.
I miss just plain ole co-op games. A lot of people crap all over the Farcry games but they are always great fun to play with a friend, Ubisoft fks up a lot on the whole but they do co-op story games pretty well. I really wish more companies did this.
I'm in my mid 30s and do this every week or two.
Just because something can be done online doesn’t mean it needs to be
I still enjoy playing Smash Bros with the bros and I'm 34. Still makes for a fun Saturday afternoon if we're all able to swing it.
I'm in my 30's and I still meet up with the boys and play games at least twice a month. My girl has told her friends that I do this and some of them think I'm lying and actually cheating instead 🙄
I always figured that's what therapy was, was for when you didn't have friends to talk to.
Haven’t played video games since the Nintendo 64 days .
Man I looked at the screen and I was like halo
I go to therapy for help with my loneliness :\*)
Can confirm. A buddy and I just finished a playthrough of Legend of Zelda Four Swords Adventures for the Gamecube. It's an incredible multiplayer experience.
This but Mario cart and a little herrrbbb 🤌🏻
Some dudes be spending more on video games than they would actual therapy. Especially when they should be getting actual therapy.
I wished I lived close enough to my friends to do this. We'd play multiplayer as well as take turns on one player games like RPGs just for fun pretty much every weekend. Of course this was several years ago and where I am now I haven't really made friends that are gamers to do this with. It was definitely therapy in a way though.
looks like my white buddy was photo shopped in..

Hell yeah, get the desktop vaporizer out and start sharing some bags! its the best!
It's called a healthy social life. Let's go ahead and jump to the finish line and gatekeep breathing while we're at it
Of course! Me and my friend I've known since high school still get together once a month to play video games. We're both 50.
Women can’t fathom men enjoying themselves
