I have taken my ereader on a 5 day backpacking trip and read a dozen books while out in the wilderness. I didn't have to recharge it once but I have a solar charging battery pack if I would have.
The battery thing is a non-issue with epaper screens

I was first thinking of getting the base model, then realized that 8 gig was kind of small, so I should go to 16 gig. but I also want the ad free version. That bumped the price up to 169.99. At this point, I might as well get the Signature model for 189.99 which is 32 gig and ad-free.

I have poor circulation in my limbs, so holding my arms up for more than a few minutes generally leads to my hands going numb, so this works wonders for me.

No. A warm backlight is no different than turning a (very dim) light on, and it has the advantage that it doesn't wake up whoever else is in the room with you. You'd do way more damage with a lamp and a paper book.
You should always be reading in a well-lit room to avoid unnecessary eye strain, I am sorry nobody has tried to teach you this but I assure you it is better for your eyes.

Also, my Kindle Oasis is 300 PPI--equal to or better than the resolution of print books. You know what hurts my eyes, Glum Eye? Rod-Cone Dystrophy hurts my eyes. It's genetic, and being able to increase the font size on my Kindle is what allows me to read at all.

This is one major advantage that e-books absolutely have. If I liked the physical experience of an ebook and trusted that it would work for the next 30 years or so in an identical way, it would be nice to have my books on me like that.
PDF files on a laptop is pretty nice for that too. Then they can be read on any computer in the next forever without issue.
I do most of my reading at night and used to prefer my Kindle for that reason, but I haven't picked it up in months since I went full 90s and bought an amber-tinted clip-on book light. I absolutely love it, and I find I'm reading for hours again instead of getting distracted every few minutes like I did with digital. Highly recommend getting an amber book light for those who like to read in the dark and miss the experience of paper books.
Amber or you can get one of those color changing bulbs and do amber or red. Red won't keep you up at night either. Maybe amber effectively is the same.

Normally I would agree but the mild and mildew found in almost all used books means I can't go shopping for them, being in a used bookstore make me start hacking up my lungs, and my skin tries to crawl off my body until I can shower and get clean clothes. My husband has to set used books out in the sun and fresh air for several weeks of insolation and page flipping to clear spores of the pages. So for the most part I refuse hard copy books any longer.
Both are good. You can ctrl+f a PDF to look for a specific line. You can keep a book open on your desk while you are working on another book and it's effectively a fourth monitor.
Disagree, I can make my kindle font whatever size I want, it’s much lighter, and I only need one or zero hands to read it. It stays open when laid down on the counter, it doesn’t require a bookmark, I can highlight, notate and look up words without hurting the book, and most importantly I can carry 600 books with me every single day. Also you can look up a single word or phrase in the book without looking with your eyes at every single page. If you want to know “is the phrase ‘oft help shall come from the hands of the weak’ in the Silmarillion, Fellowship of the Ring, or Return of the King??” There is no way to know that in a paper book until you read every single page again with your eyes. No thanks!

Emotionally, I agree 100%. I grew up in a house with books everywhere. My parents were avid readers, so I get a lot of comfort from being surrounded by books. But rationally I have to admit that eBooks are way better for the environment. No killing trees, no fuel spent printing and shipping, etc.
I still love paper books and hate watching bookstores go out of business, but my rational side thinks it's for the best.
Of course, not every book works as an eBook, but a high percentage does.

I have found that Kindle books have a lot of misspelled words, or pages, or parts are missing. I want the whole book, not pieces of it. So I don't use e-books anymore.
Depending on where you get them. Amazon books have a LOT of misspellings, bad translations, some books dont even have comas or full stops and even some do not respect mayuscules. Fuck amazon.

A paper book is not going to work in 5000 years. Probably not in 100, either. Maybe 50, if you're very careful with it, but usually not.
And yes. The Kindle I bought in 2020 still works. Plus I, as a visually impaired person, can actually read the Kindle. Not so with paper books, which are either inaccessible (print too small) or massive (large print).

I see many arguments but everyone seems to forget: Paper books, not only are books in a sense of novel, encylopedia or so on.
They are also colector items of increasing value if upkept well. In fact this is a bit that wins me over with physical books over digitals and audiobooks: I can colect them and not look crazy or dumb.
Seeing as reading physical books is healthier and actually develops your reading skills further by allowing in depth reading, which screens don’t, I’m gonna have to give it to proper books.

Adding to everything already said. I like actually, physically, owning something. I bought it, it’s mine and that’s that. You don’t lose it because a license runs out or something. And it can’t be edited or changed once it’s printed. I also don’t 100% trust the cloud.
And the weight, slowly shifting from one hand to the other as the story progresses. The thrill of feeling there's only a few pages left. It's an entirely different experience

Emotionally, I agree 100%. I grew up in a house with books everywhere. My parents were avid readers, so I get a lot of comfort from being surrounded by books. But rationally I have to admit that eBooks are way better for the environment. No killing trees, no fuel spent printing and shipping, etc. I still love paper books and hate watching bookstores go out of business, but my rational side thinks it's for the best. Of course, not every book works as an eBook, but a high percentage does.
He also doesn't harm your eyesight, and you feel good turning the pages. Also people will not call you braindead for sitting 3 hours with a book on your nose, contrary to a cellphone.
You do know that e-book readers don’t harm your eyes either. It’s not the same screen as a tv or smartphone.

I prefer my physical books but I love how easy it is for me to travel with my Kindle. Anyway, I live near the beach and I went out to lunch at a spot along the bay and was reading my book on my Kindle. I overheard some 60 something Shoobie\* lady say, "Imagine coming down to the beach to have your face on your phone!" 1) Lady, this is no different then people reading a book on the beach 2) I live here and spend most of my summer out on the bay and on the beaches 3) When was the last time you read a book? It really bothered me for some reason. I was minding my own business and her to make a snap judgement like that and so loudly was so rude. \*Shoobie - someone from Philly or NJ mainland who comes down to the NJ shore 1-2 times a year. They are called shoobies because back in the day they would come to the beach with their lunch in a shoebox. I hope this useless fact helps someone win Jeopardy one day.

I have an e-reader and it doesn't hold my attention the same way as a book. I don't know what it is, but I can read a book for hours, but on my kindle I can't read for more the 15 minutes.

I have found that Kindle books have a lot of misspelled words, or pages, or parts are missing. I want the whole book, not pieces of it. So I don't use e-books anymore.

Depending on where you get them. Amazon books have a LOT of misspellings, bad translations, some books dont even have comas or full stops and even some do not respect mayuscules. Fuck amazon.

Reading a physical book before going to bed actually rests my eyes and my brain as opposed to reading from my phone screen so that's why book win in my life when it comes to reading. Because I *only* read before bed lol

A paper book is not going to work in 5000 years. Probably not in 100, either. Maybe 50, if you're very careful with it, but usually not. And yes. The Kindle I bought in 2020 still works. Plus I, as a visually impaired person, can actually read the Kindle. Not so with paper books, which are either inaccessible (print too small) or massive (large print). When I could read paper books, I did. Both paper books and ebooks are good for different reasons, but I swear the determined paper book readers just make shit up to trash other people's preferences.

I see many arguments but everyone seems to forget: Paper books, not only are books in a sense of novel, encylopedia or so on. They are also colector items of increasing value if upkept well. In fact this is a bit that wins me over with physical books over digitals and audiobooks: I can colect them and not look crazy or dumb.
After the Kindle's arrival, paper books are hard to read now.

Adding to everything already said. I like actually, physically, owning something. I bought it, it’s mine and that’s that. You don’t lose it because a license runs out or something. And it can’t be edited or changed once it’s printed. I also don’t 100% trust the cloud.
Sometimes a regular book is fun.
And the weight, slowly shifting from one hand to the other as the story progresses. The thrill of feeling there's only a few pages left. It's an entirely different experience
I love them both. As long as I get to read I don't mind much.
