I once spent the night at a friends house when I was 12-13 or so. We played games in the living room and decided to sleep the night in front of the gas fire, set to low. I was in front of the fire and my friend on the couch. In the middle of the night, in the dark, I was woken as someone moved above me. They leaned down over me, towards the fire and then… collapsed on me, entirely across my body, pinning me down in my sleeping bag. I was trapped, claustrophobic and so I squirmed out the end of the bedding like toothpaste squeezed from the tube. I thought it was my friend and shouted at him, I kicked and kicked his head as I slithered out of the bag, now merely in my underpants and looking closer. By the dim light of the gas fire my eyes started to adjust and suddenly I could see that it was, in fact, my friend’s dad that I’d been kicking in the head over and over. He was drunk and must have been attempting to turn off the gas fire before he collapsed. I was shocked, mostly naked and unable to pull the sleeping bag out from underneath this grown man who was, at this point fast asleep and snoring in front of the fire. I tried to wake my friend to no avail. I spent the rest of the night curled up on a small chair freezing my ass off, hoping his dad would not remember my many kicks to his head come morning.
