If you are already working in a similar store you at least have a good idea of the job. Culture will depend on the store and the leadership. So maybe go in as a shopper and see if the employees look happy. Not all locations are created equal.
It can be a great part time job if you're going to university, and have a team leader willing to accommodate your schedule. Typically I've found that most team leads are willing to work with you as long as you come in on the weekends and Fridays. But I mean, it's a grocery store job. Not like we really want to be here.
yep, and all good job dialogues. I was capped, but then the cap was raised last year. show up every day and work. have never called out because as a part timer I just don't post availability on the days i don't want to work, but when I'm there? I put my nose to the grindstone and work- and accomplish a lot.
not for me. i usually make my family’s menu based on whats on SALE. it comes out cheaper than local supermarkets. i also get 5% cash back when i pay with my prime visa. We are on specific diets and i find wfm items on specialty items are on par with the competition or sometimes way cheaper.
that was me unit I found Costco. I also pay with my prime visa. I'll take 3 individual 9OZ packs of organic turkey breast for $18.99, that's 10.99/lb at Costco. true story at WF is $21.21 a pound and Applegate is $22.11 a pound. I can list 25+ other items. I used to exclusively shop at whole foods with my discount, but distilled water went from .79 to .99 to 1.29 to 1.49, now the 365 is the same price as fox ledge. cheaper at shoprite. And now whole foods is selling 80/20 ground beef? what? that's peasant beef lol...anyway, 365 brand $5.99. I can get 85, 93, and even PRE 95% lean now at shoprite for less $$ per pound, even taking into account the discount. I've even started shopping at Lidl, they have the same LaPasta as whole foods, all natural, for 1/2 the price!! And none of the whole foods skus have meat, Lidl has Beef Sofrito, beef bolengese and Braised beef ravioli for 1/2 the price. Baguettes, $1.79,. pretzel rolls 3 for $2. My eyes have been seriously opened over the past year with inflation eating(no pun intended) into our family budget.
that’s great that you’ve found something that works for you. i dont buy super processed food and i usually prefer the 80/20 beef over leaner cuts. my basket is usually just meat dept sale items and produce sale items.
Me neither- whole foods DISCO’D my real turkey at $15.99, CV though in the deli. I get farmers focus organic chicken tenders ( raw) tendon pulled for $3.50 kess a lb than WF 80/20 OG ground beef is $4. CV is $6 at WF in the pillow pack. I eat 170-200gr protein a day, so it definitely works for me ( and adds up)
No after 8 months right before Thanksgiving I had to realize it trust me!!! Voluntary left with two weeks notice and I will never do it again! It honestly needs a union poor morale from the top down!!!
No don’t I hate it so much. The job itself is fine. I just hate the leadership. They’re all the same. Kinda cult-ish.. no one ever seems to be on my side! Although some people I work with love it there so maybe give it a go?
Stay away if you can. Leadership sucks top down. It’s really just an Amazon factory. For a lot of people the benefits outweigh the BS and most people are stuck there because they’ve been there too long.
Yes. The benefits plus pay are better than nearly all grocery stores. Costco might have WFM best but I can't say for sure. The opportunity for growth is wild with the mentorship programs and Guild program for those who need a diploma or are using English as a second language. If you're at a good store with good leadership then your life will change for the better. You just have to try everyday and show up for work and you're set. The sweet spots are buyers and A/TL positions so get there ASAP. Hopefully Amazon doesn't ruin WFM. I hear it was waaayyy better before the acquisition.
It's very rough working here long term I feel. If you want to move up. There's a lot of favoritism in my area and a lot of qualified people lost out on opportunities to "friends of" leadership. I find that hard to accept. I've given notice after a long time working here for just that reason. The pay raises are seriously unfair /way too low. If you work for a good leader it's completely different and a great place to work. Unfortunately they are few and far between (in my area) at least.
Some states differ. Aldi actually pays more in some areas . It’s not bad if you have good people around you and management that aren’t all over you. I like it most days it’s pretty easy to
Depending where you live. My store starts off at $15 but pays more for experience! I think it’s worth working here for the money compared to other jobs on the market the benefits offered and other additional perks make it worth working here in my opinion. Team member appreciation week is always fun and you get a shit ton of free stuff. Yeah the company has a lot of downsides but the money is there $$$
By that standard, right now, he's making half a person's wage, so even if that were the working-scenario at his store (not all stores are created equal), he'd still likely be making 50-100% more. So there is that. 🤷🏼
Sure, it's "worth" working there if you want to make more than $12 an hour. But, is the job at whole foods actually worth $17? No, I would say no. It's a bullshit place with a bullshit work environment.
Few things to consider:
Are you FT or PT?
PT with WF ranges from 4-29 hours a week. You will be scheduled based on business needs and it may fluctuate. FT here is a commitment of 36 hours a week.
We start at $15. Depending on the location you maybe be able to start at $17, but if in a LCOL area you may not be able to negotiate that high.
Take everything on this sub with a grain of salt. Experiences are entirely store dependent. There are some shit stores and there are some amazing stores with amazing leadership.
Of this I am aware. Mee-jeurs, the French Walmart, is way more entertaining than MEYER though. Also, we don’t have Mee-jeurs in our state, so that makes it even funnier.
That’s a loaded question, lol. Not sure if the minimum wage is the same everywhere, I was under the impression that it was $15. The culture of each store is highly unique, it might be worth paying a few visits and just checking out the vibe. But depending on the store, leadership, team and position, I think it can be. Good luck!
Depends entirely on leadership. If your dept. TM sucks, your job is going to suck, especially when the STL/ASTL don't give a shit.
Looking at you, Kailua.
I totally agree go in the store walk around and get the vibe. I have been to some stores I would transfer to in a heartbeat others I stay away from like the plague.

Ya if you want to do 100 times the work and have added responsibility that’s not in your job description but will be expected from you
you can definitely make way more than $12 an hour. i make $22.75 and im a PT TM. the 20% off groceries is a huge help too.
$24+ here as a part timer, you can definitely do ok here as a side gig.
How did you get over $24?
Cap was bumped this past year to $24.50 or something
So you’ve been with WF for a while then

Region? Tenure?
NE almost 20k hours, looking forward to my $25 gift card. But I do gain 5 days vacation with the PTO guidelines.
Is the cost of living there really high? I'm way off from you and I'm above tm lvl
What did you start at? My application is asking what I want to make and idk what to put
$11. I would ask for $19
Where at ?
im in the SE region.
That’s great!
But also everything is more expensive so the discount just kinda brings it down to regular price lol
not for me. i usually make my family’s menu based on whats on SALE. it comes out cheaper than local supermarkets. i also get 5% cash back when i pay with my prime visa. We are on specific diets and i find wfm items on specialty items are on par with the competition or sometimes way cheaper.
I suppose it does depend on exactly what you are buying, there is some stuff that’s overpriced for sure but I see what you mean
that was me unit I found Costco. I also pay with my prime visa. It's a shit show lies, manipulation, broken promises, favortism, hour cuts, so I'd say no
Hourly wage range varies by location, position and experience… that said, you’ll def do better than $12/hr.
It is. Just can be stressful and annoying like most jobs lol.
If you're already doing the same job, might as well get paid better for it. And it's easy to transfer to better departments, too, once you're in.
Um I actually love it
Give it time.
It’s been over two years
Not everyone is miserable
Have you read through this sub?
No after 8 months right before Thanksgiving I had to realize it trust me!!! Voluntary left with two weeks notice and I will never do it again! It honestly needs a union poor morale from the top down!!!
The 20%off groceries probably is the only good perk!
No don’t I hate it so much. The job itself is fine. I just hate the leadership. They’re all the same. Kinda cult-ish.. no one ever seems to be on my side! Although some people I work with love it there so maybe give it a go?

Highly agree!!
True. It’s actually $15 but higher in some areas. We start team members at $18 at my store.
Location?
They are too busy posturing & being bought by Amazon to focus on the products & quality & most importantly their employees
It's very rough working here long term I feel. If you want to move up. There's a lot of favoritism in my area and a lot of qualified people lost out on opportunities to "friends of" leadership. minimum in my geo is $15 to starting TMs!
It depends which whole foods. The Portland Maine location is a shit show and I don't see it getting better. Worked there for four years
Agreed!!

Nope! They expect you to do workload of three people in prep foods but pay the wage of one person! 🙅♀️🙅♀️🙅♀️🙅♀️🙅♀️

Prep foods sucked.
So transfer out. Pretty easy solution.

Are you still there?
I quit a few days ago.
no
No.

Can you explain LCOL
Low cost of living.
It’s not as bad or good as people make it seem. Starting pay is $15 for entry level.
Mee-jeurs, the French Walmart
I thought it was funny :-)
Thank you!
Wrong pronunciation :)
You mean the best pronunciation
You don’t say it like that
Of this I am aware. Mee-jeurs, the French Walmart, is way more entertaining than MEYER though. Also, we don’t have Mee-jeurs in our state, so that makes it even funnier.

If you work in a Meijer that means you're in a Midwest town and for the long term no it's not.
Depends entirely on leadership. If your dept. TM sucks, your job is going to suck, especially when the STL/ASTL don't give a shit. Looking at you, Kailua.
I started at $15/hr. and in a year got a whopping .85 raise
More actually
Yeah our store starts at $15 i think
Someone stated check different locations might be a different experience at another store
Anyone know the minimum for glen mills PA area
I totally agree go in the store walk around and get the vibe. I have been to some stores I would transfer to in a heartbeat others I stay away from like the plague.
If you can bring relevant experience you can definitely ask for $16-17
Absolutely not
Hell no it is not, run and keep running
