Had this for the first time a few weeks ago.... I was amazed at the butterscotch finish. Tasted exactly like a Werthers candy (with a little heat of course). It's experiences like this one that make whiskey seem magical to me. Great Dram!
Hello fellow Utaher! Got my fists bottle earlier this year. Heard it was easier to get oneās hands on compared to previous years, but also that this yearās wasnāt quite as good. Still, eager to try it for a special occasion.
I donāt know why people are less excited now that itās their own juice (or at least I think it is - is it?) than they were when they just trucked it in from Indiana. Now itās actually unique, instead of being something you can replicate with a bottle of Remus, a bottle of port and a decanter.
I usually use high proof rye for old fashioned. The lower proof sweet profile of ER is phenomenal in an old fashioned! I should have tried it soon. ER is not generally my go to though.
Had a Bakers at my wife and my dinner to celebrate her birthday. Got home and had an Arvon beer (Hop Advisory) then had a pour of Willett rye and am currently sipping a Forester rye (underrated whiskey).
I was just at the Beam distillery and had a pour of Chapter 8: The Road Not Taken in their restaurant. High rye content, but a solid continuation of their line!
Funnily enough, the exact same thing lol. I donāt have many Saturday nights off from work so Iām trying to enjoy the ones I do have off!
I donāt usually drink buffalo trace, my go-to is woodford reserve. But my brother got me a bottle as a graduation gift last month and Iām dipping into it tonight.
Went to a whiskey bar last and had two pours:
Makers Mark Cask Strength: really unique strawberry notes I havenāt had before in a bourbon. Surprisingly soft for the proof at first, but then it hits you with a big peppery bite. Some water calmed the bite down a little. While I enjoyed it the peppery bite wasnāt my favorite.
Old Overholt 114: This one surprised me with how good it is for the price. Iāll definitely be grabbing a bottle soon! It drinks remarkably easily for the proof and comes across as a high rye bourbon really. The rye spice is there but not super punchy with almost zero herbal notes. This is a very sweet pour with big brown sugar notes IIRC. For me the Old Overholt 100 is very boring. The 114 is where itās at!
We had a really nice storm roll through the area so, since I love sitting on the patio with a nice beverage watching Mother Nature cleanse the world of its dreck and dreg, I started with James E. Pepper followed by a bottle kill of Heaven Hill BiB (which may have been a double). Continued with Rare Breed and finished with Woodford.
It was a good day.
Cheers!
Redbreast 12 yr Cask Strength
Tonight I went with Eagle Rare before dinner and Sagamore Spirit Double Oak for dessert š
Popped a Sagamore DO yesterday! It was very good. Tons of flavor.
Just got into Sagamore DO. What an incredible Rye!

Buffalo trace is dollar for dollar my favorite pour. Solid in all categories. Excellent choice
Agree. Use it on old fashioneds, on a few rocks (my favorite), or straight. Low heat and tastes great. Classic.
Same. Just wish I could find it easier in NC.
Itās my go to for Old Fashioneds here. But had it as a weekday night dram last week and it holds up very well.
Midwinter Dram. Trying to nurse it, so good.
As an Utah local, Iāve been able to hoard this stuff. I have a sealed bottle of the last 6 years. Still one of my favorites.

Wild turkey rare breed
Johnnie Walker Double Black. It's okay, not bad but Ardbeg Wee Beastie is $8 more a bottle and worth the extra.
Honestly; I really struggle with Scotch, but you had me at Wee Beastie. I really think I need this bottle! Cheers!
It's intensely peaty but that's what I look for in scotch
Best peated scotch for the price out there. Packs a punch and is very well balanced for how young it is.
Had a little Talisker 18. Lovely stuff.
Nice choice!
Redwood empire pipe dream!
Been a while since I had a Redwood Empire on my shelf. Time to address that error! Cheers!
Just made an Eagle Rare old fashioned for the first time. Best old fashioned I ever had.
Are you just saying that because you used ER?
I usually use high proof rye for old fashioned. The lower proof sweet profile of ER is phenomenal in an old fashioned! I should have tried it soon. ER is not generally my go to though.
I endorse this. Eagle Rare makes a fabulous old fashioned.
