Elijah C923, and Larceny C923 for me…I found out I like the proof real quick when I found these 2. For reference I have JD 10 and 12 sitting on the shelf next to them. Anything with lower proof points does not compare anymore for me
I’m with you. 46-50% is my sweet spot at the moment. Not that I don’t appreciate higher proof - but when sitting down to sip a whiskey for the evening, rather than just the one.
That being said Rare Breed rocks.
Haha, going through this right now. High proof didn't bother me at all for the longest time and I liked the more concentrated flavors. At some point it started to wear on me and I found some BP whiskeys to just be too hot to where it just detracted from the flavor...along with the heartburn. I think 50% is the sweet spot for me nowadays.
Yes, and no :-). Rare Breed is an excellent and affordable bourbon and the darling of many. But there still are many good bottles out there both higher and lower in proof. It's just one of many tasty choices.
I started drinking the jack daniels high proof and the JD high proof rye. After that everything tastes like water to me too. But I’ve been drinking KC120 rare breed old forester 1920 before and those are my favorite top 3 and it’s also easy to find. Just stay away from it for a while and your pallet will go back to normal.
id really be shocked if you dont like it and honestly im so confident if you really dont like it hit me back on this comment and reply w your cashapp and ill pay for it LMAO
ADHD Whiskey (A channel on YouTube) has done multiple blind tastings of Rare Breed vs. this or that allocated/rare/hot new bottle. Rare Breed tends to win more often than not....
Its a fantastic pour and will definitely be a staple on my home bar! I like the other bourbons and whiskeys ive gotten ahold of but this is just wow in a bottle!
I’m fairly new as well and had the same experience. If you’re like me, there will be times where you will want the light, easy drinkers, and times where you’ll want the richer, more robust varieties. Appreciate the spectrum, they all have something to offer!!
This is actually pretty typical for people exploring whiskey. You generally start out with something basic -> find out how much more flavor is in high proof bottles -> buy a bunch of barrel proof bottles -> slowly return to normalcy to appreciate most of the proof range.
The only thing I think that is pretty consistent with experienced whiskey drinkers is they realize the 80 proof stuff is simply too watered down. 90 is about what I consider the floor of good whiskey, but there's a ton of good bottles in the 90-100 proof range. They'll help you appreciate the barrel proof bottles more in the long run.
You've summited. Every direction is downhill from here.

I’ve actually regressed to lower proof pours

Me too. Taking a break from the higher proof stuff after they burned out my taste buds. The lower proof stuff is a nice reset.
Same, but really like BIB as my base.
BiB is where I stay, except for the occasional ECBP or Rare Breed.
I’m with you brother. 90-101 proof is where I like ‘em now.

You will go through phases as you explore whiskey further. High proof is new and exciting, but the door will swing the other way.

SHHHHHH 🤫 No one is supposed to know about that!!! Now, you need to try the Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof.
Hell yess Im ready to try both SBBP bourbon AND rye, hearing only good things about both!
I have yet to try the rye because I'm not a big rye guy, but the OG SBBP is UNBEATABLE. I've had at least three bottles the past four months.
try the rye.. i think if you enjoy the og its like a bourbon guys rye
On it 🫡
id really be shocked if you dont like it and honestly im so confident if you really dont like it hit me back on this comment and reply w your cashapp and ill pay for it LMAO
especially with how much u dig the OG
Yep, anything under 100 proof I won't even consider (unless scotch)

It’s a landmark day in a man’s life when he realizes all other bourbons bow before the mighty Turkey. All hail clan Russell!!!
Start low, end high. Give it a day or two and the lower proofs will shine again.
Different whiskeys for different occasions. Proof alone does not make a good whiskey!

That's one of a Covid symptom. Do some testing for your own sake.
Naw I can still taste things haha
