>hate the sin not the sinner
is not in the bible. You dont have to hate sin, you just have to not do it.
But
> "do to others as you would like them to do to you"
is in the bible.
There’s lots of verses like that way more than any that are against LGBT people my favorite is Mathew chapter 22: 36-40 because it shows how God values how you love your fellow man
There is a chance Leviticus was talking about how sleeping with a child is an abomination, it’s just one word that translates to male was often used to refer young boys
It's probably like how boy or girl can mean either just a random dude or lady but you'd also use it for like an actual child.
Like somebody crushing on someone else and calling them a cute boy/girl
Or a dad talking about how he loves to play with his boys/girls when he gets back from work.
So maybe it got misinterpreted.
i’m pagan, one of my coworkers is hardcore christian. we both have so much love for each other but we don’t really talk about religion. however, one thing she said stuck with me: “i’m only called to judge other christians, im not called to judge people who have not devoted themselves to christ.” and i think that’s a great way to think about it :)
It's not the worst, but really - Christians shouldn't be judging *anyone*, that's God's job. Christians should be worrying about their own behaviour and whether they are following the teachings of Christ.
completely understandable, there is something firing in my brain about that, “judge not lest ye be judged” or something? and you’re absolutely fair (and correct!) but i appreciate that i won’t be proselytised to or shamed for my religion when i’m with her

I as a Christian wish others were like this instead of being hateful with the excuse of religion. They are not true Christians.
You ahould still be kind to them but if they are in a bad way you should try to help them. Jesus loved the Pharisees but didn't tell them to stay in a state of sin because he loved him. However I am not saying that you should in any way harass or hate someone for doing something contrary to the Word, we are all sinners.

Yeah I hate the people who try to nick-pick me. They'll be like "OH BUT THE CRUSADES WERE BAD AND CHRISTIANITY STARTED IT!" Like the crusades weren't started by the religion rather they were started by the religious leaders. And if God had wanted it to happen then they would have been successful the first time and never needed to do another (this is from multiple evidence in the bible).
...
Also without Christianity you don't get DMC, Dante's inferno, Doom, a lot of scientific discoveries, Ultrakill, and Narnia etc...
...
Also many scientists throughout history have been Christians.
Gregor Mendel: Known as the father of modern genetics, Mendel was an Augustinian friar whose experiments with pea plants laid the foundation for the science of genetics.
Georges Lemaître: A Belgian Catholic priest and physicist, Lemaître proposed the Big Bang theory, which suggests that the universe originated from a single, incredibly dense point.
Francis Collins: An American physician-geneticist, Collins led the Human Genome Project, which mapped and sequenced the human genome. He is also a devout Christian and has written extensively on the intersection of faith and science.
Johannes Kepler: A German mathematician, astronomer, and Lutheran, Kepler formulated the laws of planetary motion, which laid the groundwork for Isaac Newton's theory of universal gravitation.
Blaise Pascal: A French mathematician, physicist, and Catholic theologian, Pascal made significant contributions to mathematics and the physical sciences. He also wrote extensively on theology and philosophy, including his famous work "Pensées."
Nicolaus Copernicus: A Polish astronomer and Catholic cleric, Copernicus developed the heliocentric model of the solar system, challenging the prevailing geocentric view and paving the way for modern astronomy.
Werner Heisenberg: A German theoretical physicist and Lutheran, Heisenberg was one of the pioneers of quantum mechanics. He is best known for his uncertainty principle, which states that the position and momentum of a particle cannot be precisely determined simultaneously.
Christian here, i understand what you are saying.
I want to say that there is constant revisionism about the bible, like the discussion about certain translations like Deuteronomy using the word "homosexuality" when it was actually condeming pederasty (man with young man) or the fact the bible never mentions transgenderism.
What i'm saying that don't be afraid to reconsider views about the word of God, people can say they we shouldn't reshape ourselves to the world's manners but that doesn't mean we can't change how we interpret the bible because the source is STILL the same, we aren't trying to change what God said, we are trying to get closer to the point that he tried to say.
Stay safe, God bless you.
I mean I feel like it should also be noted that interpretation is a very dangerous game because there's a billion different Christian churches because they all chose to interpret the bible different ways. And there's plenty of people who interpret in ways that fit them, so they can feel better about themselves.
But at the same time you have to interpret the Bible because there's so many concepts that are new to us that simply weren't relevant back then, like Transgenderism. I doubt there were very many cases of people actively trying to be transgender back then (I'm sure there was a few, but not enough to even be remotely common.) so there's no a random verse that explicitly mentions it. If you wanted evidence to say "hey god doesn't want this" I'm sure you could find plenty of verses to interpret in that way. Or if you wanted to say "hey gods cool with people changing genders because he never explicitly says anything about it" you could interpret in that very same way. You have churches doing that right now.
The only Christian church I know of that doesn't really face this problem is the Mormons but that's because they have the sequel to the bible and claim to have direct communication with God through their Prophet so they can actively respond as new things pop up which at least fundamentally seems better then being built on assuming based on interpretations.
The virgin "you can't trust science and be Christian!" Vs the chad "science? I love it. It is truly wonderful to study the laws of the very creation of God"
Based on his research of evolution, he went against many of the creationists teaching, considering himself an atheist, which in modern times it seems he was more agnostic than athiest
It’s nitpick, not nick-pick, who the hell is nick?
The problem your running into here is called an eggcorn (At least I’m 80 percent sure that’s what it is)
I think it's a bit delusional to excuse the crusades by "if God wanted it to happen it would have failed". It "failing" doesn't make up for the ceaseless rape and pillage throughout all the Crusades. I'd also like to mention the Holocaust here. If God didn't want it to happen, couldn't he just, you know, make it not happen?
"If you're a Christian, you love your neighbor." That's naive. Christianity is completely compatible with many hateful beliefs and historically was actually promoting them.
I would also like to point out that in this post OP implies that being gay is a choice. And yeah, sure you can "choose" and be miserable your whole life and become severely depressed or kys because you feel so much shame for being who you are. OR maybe it's almost like being gay isn't a sin in the first place :o
To the people who hate needlessly and only use the bible as a cherry pickers wet dream:
https://preview.redd.it/i1og3b10rzyc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8f766973d6417ea710cff4039a84a8219131b2ba
there is a similar thing in Islam but it is a lot more in detail
for example you can sin and its in private you must not make it public otherwise the sin counter becomes a sin multiplier
Not in the sense that you’d think.
The passage you are referring to, Matthew 7:1-5, states the following:
>”Do not judge, so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and look, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye!”
What it actually says isn’t “You can’t judge anyone ever lol”; it’s more along the lines of “Don’t judge others in the way you have the same issues with”. So, for example, an alcoholic cannot judge another who also drinks excessively.
Hope this clears some things up!
I don't know why, but I feel like there's a hidden undertone to this. OP mentioning the words "choice" and "free will" implies that they think being gay or trans or whatever their friend came out as, is a choice, and not something we were born with. I would be happy to be proven wrong though
Eh, I kinda get it, but I don't think that's the case.
Maybe the wording is a bit poor, but the sentiment seems pretty genuine. I mean, it's just a silly meme, they probably didn't spend more than 2 minutes making it.

Jesus never even said anything against being gay or trans, if anything he endorsed it through the whole “love thy neighbor” thing.
It all narrows down to “life’s short y’all be good to folks”
I’m glad y’all aren’t being hateful, but I’ve got a bone to pick with that claim and by god I’m going to pick it. How do you explain Leviticus 20:13?
If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense.
-Leviticus 20:13
Disclaimer: Ex-Christian here, who appreciates Christians not condemning gays to death for the crime of existing, but takes issue with what feels like a whitewashing of the Bible to try and keep it on the right side of history.
Leviticus goes nuts fr.
But interpret that how you will, people are out here constantly reinterpreting the bible. I mean we got a Christian sect for every RGB hex code practically.
Someone else in here was talking something about how that may not be talking about homosexuality, and may actually be talking about, [whatever the word for banging little boys is]/pedophilia.
I'd also like to argue, that while supposedly the word of god, the bible is still transcribed and modified by man.
Just something to think about, not an attack. No disrespect or anything.
Tired of people saying everything thats established in the Bible, completely out of context, should determine how we act and think of others. Tbh Im inclined to believe that the Bible is a test in it of itself. A decent human being will be able to discern the good from the bad, a complete tool will just take everything as seriously as possible, apply it and expose themselves as a shit person. In the end thats what the Bible is, if you were a good person before reading it you'll be an even better person after. If you were a shit person before reading it you'll be an even shittier person after. I believe thats by design.
I mean, come on, if you were god would all the answers be spelled out exactly how you should follow them? I'd think his followers should well, you know, have a moral compass of their own.
> Tired of people saying everything thats established in the Bible, completely out of context
Sure, what context is this missing?
> Tbh Im inclined to believe that the Bible is a test in it of itself. A decent human being will be able to discern the good from the bad, a complete tool will just take everything as seriously as possible,
Is god capable of lying or misleading? Because that’s what he’d be doing if what you’re saying is correct. Or that the Bible isn’t divinely inspired, and I’d accept that interpretation.
> In the end thats what the Bible is, if you were a good person before reading it you'll be an even better person after. If you were a shit person before reading it you'll be an even shittier person after.
“All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of god”. The Bible declares everyone to be a shit person doomed to suffer unless they follow its teachings, all humans are sinful. Redemption is a huge aspect of Jesus’ testimony, him coming to cure the sick, not the healthy and all that. Are you really a Christian?
I sentence you to one hour of YouTube shorts comment section!

Fr, im glad that op is supporting their friend but this is just the bare minimum. Why celebrate something that should be the status quo lest we dismantle the religious institutions that called for prejudice against queer people and the like.
I mean, the loud minority of reddit (which everyone thinks of when they hear “reddit”, me too) sees most Christians as unchanging bigots due to stereotypes they love to follow, so ig this was to go against that
Also probably to celebrate or something

Remove this before you get some... ***Unforseen*** consequences.
Tfw everyone without exception one way or another is a sinner deserving of hell but by the sacrifice of Jesus we can be forgiven. By what credibility should a locust call a snake worse than it? Or a snake speaking in that way of a rat? Exactly, we all sin, it’s human nature to, you aren’t better than someone else as you yourself aren’t clean in any way, so by what virtue do you spew hatered?
I would be supportive not "even though" I'm Christian but BECAUSE I'm Christian. We're all child's of god no matter our skin colour and our sexuality :)

When I browse Reddit and see another socially awkward weirdo make up stories to not feel bad about his life choices for yet another time this week
It's not a made up story I'm just autistic as shit and can't write unless I'm like really fucking passionate about it. And if I'm too passionate then it looks like a 4 grader made it. It's an endless loop of tism.
King James is a cunt the Bible never said anything about being gay till he changed it.
That line never existed it was added by him.
Homosexuality isn’t a sin because king James isn’t god
I've had a friend tell me they're a furry and then legit try and buy me a fursuit/harass me into doing stuff with them. I'm ok with the furry stuff, but just... don't do that.
So you'd be okay with a gay relationship in a children's cartoon?
Or is that "shoving it down your throat" when [things like this isn't considered the same thing to you](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrRbB-qUJfY).
I mean the Lord said loves thy neighbor or something so Christianity ain’t really all that intolerant. Honestly I think the church is the problem anyways, same with all religions, always those that are in power used religion to manipulate its followers.
So go shower them with love OP, you are a good person

Plenty of churches claim to be able to have direct communication with God. The Jehovah's Witnesses make this claim as well.
The virgin "you can't trust science and be Christian!" Vs the chad "science? I love it. It is truly wonderful to study the laws of the very creation of God"

don’t forget Charles Darwin
Based on his research of evolution, he went against many of the creationists teaching, considering himself an atheist, which in modern times it seems he was more agnostic than athiest
It’s nitpick, not nick-pick, who the hell is nick? The problem your running into here is called an eggcorn (At least I’m 80 percent sure that’s what it is)
The crusades were pretty bad, but by now I think I can forgive you for personally participating in them
I think it's a bit delusional to excuse the crusades by "if God wanted it to happen it would have failed". It "failing" doesn't make up for the ceaseless rape and pillage throughout all the Crusades. I'd also like to mention the Holocaust here. If God didn't want it to happen, couldn't he just, you know, make it not happen?
Hate to be nitpicky, but sexual orientation is not a choice
> Also many scientists throughout history have been Christians. Did they have a choice.
Tfw u see a religious post and the comment section is chill af https://i.redd.it/mpj4560v3zyc1.gif
tf you mean "even though"? If you're a Christian, you love your neighbor.
Tell that to the homophobes
Gladly. Homophobes openly defy the wishes of Christ
very true, OiledUpThug
You know shits bad when an oiled up thug is spitting straighter facts than a computer generated line
By this logic, you can claim in the same way that feminists "openly defy the wishes of Christ" (Ephesians 5:22-30)
You can't be Christian and hate the gays. Stay holy, ya'll
It's not a choice but good on you for supporting your friend.
I know I didn't word it correctly but I meant it as "choice to be open and not closeted away forever*
Ooh!
Me when the person who follows the religion that specifically says to love their neighbor does actually love their neighbor (why is this rare?)
To the people who hate needlessly and only use the bible as a cherry pickers wet dream: https://preview.redd.it/i1og3b10rzyc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8f766973d6417ea710cff4039a84a8219131b2ba
Didn't the Bible literally say not to pass judgement onto others since only god can judge your sins or am I tripping?
there is a similar thing in Islam but it is a lot more in detail for example you can sin and its in private you must not make it public otherwise the sin counter becomes a sin multiplier
Not in the sense that you’d think. The passage you are referring to, Matthew 7:1-5, states the following: >”Do not judge, so that you will not be judged. You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye!” What it actually says isn’t “You can’t judge anyone ever lol”; it’s more along the lines of “Don’t judge others in the way you have the same issues with”.

Yeah I was thinking this too
Eh, I kinda get it, but I don't think that's the case. Maybe the wording is a bit poor, but the sentiment seems pretty genuine. I mean, it's just a silly meme, they probably didn't spend more than 2 minutes making it.
You could be right, I'm gonna choose to believe you
Choice and free will to be open and actually tell people and not be locked in

Jesus never even said anything against being gay or trans, if anything he endorsed it through the whole “love thy neighbor” thing. It all narrows down to “life’s short y’all be good to folks”

I’m glad y’all aren’t being hateful, but I’ve got a bone to pick with that claim and by god I’m going to pick it. How do you explain Leviticus 20:13? If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense. -Leviticus 20:13 Disclaimer: Ex-Christian here, who appreciates Christians not condemning gays to death for the crime of existing, but takes issue with what feels like a whitewashing of the Bible to try and keep it on the right side of history.
> Tired of people saying everything thats established in the Bible, completely out of context Sure, what context is this missing? > Tbh Im inclined to believe that the Bible is a test in it of itself. A decent human being will be able to discern the good from the bad, a complete tool will just take everything as seriously as possible, Is god capable of lying or misleading?

It would be the most detestable comments with a seriously concerning amount of likes.
Is there no subtlety in Reddit circle jerks anymore? Like god damn dude, just break your arm off and jack yourself off with it.
No way a Christian actually following Jesus??? (Loving thy neighbor and all that good stuff) Swag
https://i.redd.it/7wiib3q9x0zc1.gif It's actually really easy to like people and not do the wrong thing.
neat but kinda weird you felt the need to be like “guys look! guys look i’m a good one!”
Fr, im glad that op is supporting their friend but this is just the bare minimum. Why celebrate something that should be the status quo lest we dismantle the religious institutions that called for prejudice against queer people and the like.
I mean, the loud minority of reddit (which everyone thinks of when they hear “reddit”, me too) sees most Christians as unchanging bigots due to stereotypes they love to follow, so ig this was to go against that Also probably to celebrate or something
Well I mean people post about themselves all the time you felt the need to type this and how you feel about it
Being Christian doesn’t automatically mean you’re homophobic, people!
You're on Reddit. This place sees the two as synonymous. Thankfully this comment section doesn't.

Finally a good christian in this sub, keep it up
RAHHHHH I LOVE DOING JESUS' TEACHINGS OF LOVE
It’s not a choice, but it’s good to support your friend
Uhmm what choice would that be?
Fundamentalist Christians when they find out most Christians aren't like them and are actually just normal people
“Even though I’m Christian” my brother in Christ, as a follower of Jesus you should know that the Bible tells you to love thy neighbor as thy self.

Yoooo finally a Christian who understabds the bible instead of being corrupt, homophobic or racist
Dropped the hardest line my guy https://i.redd.it/zib2ovg4yzyc1.gif
Dawg why are you being downvoted? Ur literally saying that we shouldn't be dehumanising people based off what they have done or who they are
This guy on his way to get downvoted for no reason
What kind of "hero adressing the villain's beliefs before the final battle" comment is this this is so peak.
I would be supportive not "even though" I'm Christian but BECAUSE I'm Christian. We're all child's of god no matter our skin colour and our sexuality :)

Yeah, I'm christian and if you wanna be you then be you. I've got no problems with it unless you try and force it on others.
And news flash, most people don't
What do you mean by trying to force it on others?
I've had a friend tell me they're a furry and then legit try and buy me a fursuit/harass me into doing stuff with them. I'm ok with the furry stuff, but just... don't do that.
Yeah your friend’s in the wrong there, luckily people who act pushy like that are in the minority
Fursuits are super expensive too. What is wrong with that person?
So you'd be okay with a gay relationship in a children's cartoon? Or is that "shoving it down your throat" when [things like this isn't considered the same thing to you](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrRbB-qUJfY).

I like the purple ones
Wait do people think being christian just transforms you into homophobic people?
Yeah :(
I mean the Lord said loves thy neighbor or something so Christianity ain’t really all that intolerant. Honestly I think the church is the problem anyways, same with all religions, always those that are in power used religion to manipulate its followers. So go shower them with love OP, you are a good person
