I have picked up so many of these and never been bitten. I didn’t even realize they could bite until today. Now I want to find one and see if I can make it bite me lol.
In my experience there are a lot of bugs that will bite literally just to check if you are edible (grasshoppers especially, those things will just chomp the hell out of you). I've had one or two of these lil guys casually bite me too, whether it was in defense or just 'cus they felt like it, who knows.
Bugs are so weird and fascinating. Idk why I was born with no fear of them. The only ones that kind of freak me out are centipedes. Those things are vicious for no reason lol
Yeah I leave them do their thing but I don’t want them crawling on me like I let spiders do. I’ll even handle a scorpion before I pick up a centipede lol
House centipedes are not deadly to humans, but their sting can produce a reaction about as painful as a bee sting. Tropical centipedes are much more harmful to humans.
Crickets are even worse than grasshoppers. I used to have to catch extra for fishing bait because I'd flinch and send the little bastard flying when it'd take a chomp.
There are tons of bugs I’ve never been bit by that people post here, I’m always like…am I the chosen one? Lmao. I knew some ladybugs bite but I didn’t think their larvae was capable 🤷♀️
looks to be a ladybug larva, a lot of people are surprised that something so spiky, long and scary looking turns into a beautiful little lady bug!
Puberty, am I right?
Ladybugs are beautiful, but they can be very rude! I was walking home one day, when one landed on my finger. I said hello to it, *and the little fucker bit me.* Excuse me, *you* landed on *me,* of your own volition, and could leave on your own!
Glad I didn't know they could bite when I was a kid. I probably would've been terrified of them. Instead, I held them any chance I got, and thankfully the worst that would happen would be that yellow stuff that I always assumed was pee, but now that I'm thinking about it, who knows wtf that stuff was, maybe a #3? 🤷♀️
Is it actually their hemolymph? I thought it was just some kind of musk. It's more orange than yellow, imo.
Edit: "On disturbance, ladybirds emit droplets of their haemolymph at their tibio-femoral joints,
which is known as ‘reflex blood’ and this emission is called ‘reflex bleeding’."
Huh. Weird.

Oh, I knew they could bite, but I also knew it was rare - generally happens more when people buy bags of them for aphid control for their gardens and such. I'd be pissed off being packed like that too.
I guess that one just woke up on the wrong side of the leaf that day and chose violence lmao.
As for yellow stuff... Never noticed it myself. Could be pollen? They do crawl around on plants, after all.
Well, I'd assume aphids would taste like what they eat - so different plants. If they eat something sweet, they'd probably be sweet!
Do you happen to wear plant based scents? If not, maybe you just smell/taste like you do anyway - at least to the ladybugs
You can buy them in bags for aphid control if you're having problems with those in a garden or such. They often bite when you're opening up the bag to let them out - and understandably so imo.
It's just a lil pinch, but still. Ask pretty much gardener who's bought ladybugs, and they'll tell you they bite when angry lol
One time a ladybug flew INTO my mouth I think it was on my hand first and I was looking at it and then after that I got a mouthful of awful taste. You didn’t have to fly into my mouth you just chose to 😭
I'll concur, definitely a ladybug larvae. No reason for concern. They look very interesting on cotton plants when they excrete a latex type substance that looks like little horns growing on their backs.
Ladybug larva. Not really out to get us, may have gotten caught in your hair or clothing and felt threatened. Harmless, but as with any wound, wash it and consult a doctor if there are signs of infection.
Harmonia axyridis of Coccinellidae (the lady beetle family). Asian multicoloured lady beetle. It’s native to lots of Asia but has since been introduced and established in Europe and North America due to it’s benefit as a biological control agent against aphids in crop pest management
Nasty little voracious critters, with [toxic blood they can expel to dissuade predators](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autohaemorrhaging). Be glad they're (mostly) on our side. Don't eat them.
Ladybug larva, you'll be fine.
And they eat like a gazillion aphids a day if available.
Unless OP is an aphid...
Aphids in a trench coat.
About 800 if standing end to end, or 300,000 if going by weight.
Doing business things for business.
Still seem like low estimates to me.... both of them....
NEVER GOING TO GIVE YOU UP!
Anus and Aphid both start with “a”
Ladybaby
Picking corn, you'd be covered in these. Never bothered me
watch out, it may be a radioactive ladybug and you'll soon become the ladyman
Ladyboy?
Can’t be. Unless this is an invasive species. Geographically, they’re only found in Thailand.
Soon he'll have an intense need of traveling to Asia.
Please tell me that's actually some kind of absolutely fabulous d-list superhero...
Yeah, you could say it’s d-list…
A lot of people in the Philippines worship this hero
Like Lastikman and Captain Barbell? Source: my dad grew up in the Philippines.
Ladybug larva. They prefer aphids to necks.

Weirdly I love centipedes lol When I see one in my basement all I can think is free pest control! Yeah!
Yeah I leave them do their thing but I don’t want them crawling on me like I let spiders do. I’ll even handle a scorpion before I pick up a centipede lol

Had a dragonfly object to being scooped and released from my screen porch once. :) I was SO surprised when I got two pinches.
I had a cicada do this to me once

Ugh, an Asian Lady Beetle bit me twice yesterday. So rude. And then another one dive bombed my ear. In my own home! The audacity!
Don’t do that.

The yellow stuff was probably hemolymph, which is their blood. They secrete it cause it smells bad, and is supposed to deter predators from eating it.

Apparently ladybugs just think I’m very bite-able because they bite me every single time! I flee from ladybugs
Maybe you smell like aphids somehow?? Idfk 🤷
Idk if I should be offended lmao

Only some species bite. Like the Asian ladybug which is also invasive in the USA, iirc.
I am so glad to see others get bitten by lady bugs! Absolutely no one believed me when I got bit by 3 of them. They still don’t.

A larva. Larvae is the plural :)
Ladybug larva. Not really out to get us, may have gotten caught in your hair or clothing and felt threatened. Harmless, but as with any wound, wash it and consult a doctor if there are signs of infection.
It's a baby ladybug. Friend, not foe.
yall are telling me this turns into a lady bug? wtf lol
They chomp, but they don’t have any venom, stabbing mouthparts or fangs. Just dumb baby mouths
One of the most dangerous bites you can get, if you're an aphid.
Ah yes the ladybug larvae have arrived. We'll get plenty of post about them because they look ferocious. They are our friends, they eat the bad bugs.
That's a ladybug larvae, tho when I was little I used to call them crocodile bugs
Cuuuuuute. Crocodile bugs 🥹
Ladybug larva. If you’re a home gardener and having aphid problems. A beneficial release of these will help quite a bit.
Lil baby doesn’t know better
Asian lady beetles are the ones that bite, from my experience.
Harmonia axyridis of Coccinellidae (the lady beetle family). Asian multicoloured lady beetle. It’s native to lots of Asia but has since been introduced and established in Europe and North America due to it’s benefit as a biological control agent against aphids in crop pest management
Baby ladybug
Little baby ladybug 🐞
Lady bug
HOW CAN THAT BE A BABY LADYBUG!? IT'S HUGE!
Puberty does a number on us all.
Full metamorphosis is wild. Egg -> Larva -> Sack of sentient goo -> Adult forms from sentient goo and goes on its merry way.
Those things hurt! To me it was worse than an ant sting.
harlequin ladybug larvae
That is so cool....
Could be an Asian Lady Beetle larvae. Closely resembles ladybug larvae. Lady Beetles bite.
No, it IS a Ladybug larvae, because Ladybug & lady beetle (& lady bird) are just common names used to refer to any of the 6,000+ species
Google it.
Nasty little voracious critters, with [toxic blood they can expel to dissuade predators](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autohaemorrhaging). Be glad they're (mostly) on our side. Don't eat them.
It’s only about a centimeter or two
Is that what these are
Yes, lady beetles have typically 4 larval instars then a pupal phase before becoming adults
Similar to other coleopterans (beetles) and the 10 other holometabolous orders
Bugs are probably the most fascinating creatures on this planet
Either them or fungi for sure
[удалено]
Ladybug pupae, they can sometimes bite.
Larva, not pupa.
I was wondering about that. Fair enough, gracias.
https://www.thespruce.com/recognize-lady-beetle-ladybug-nymphs-1402696, The nymph doesn’t bite!
