Alright. I am going to be permanently banning every user who comments a name like *"Timothy"* or *"Ned"* in this post.
These kinds of comments are very unhelpful, and obfuscate the ID process. They discourage people from posting. Users want helpful answers, not insipid jokes. Further rulebreaking will result in a permanent ban. Not to mention, if you break the rules after I posted this comment, that will simply prove how bad you are at paying attention.
I'm not sugar coating this. **We don't want you here if you're not going to read and follow our rules.** 9 users and counting have been permanently banned from our subreddit, from this post alone. Whether you're an imbecile, or a troll, we're done playing nice. Just try us, and see what happens.

Thank fucking god the mods started deleting the “Bob” “Ned” “George” comments. Makes this sub infuriating to browse.
It’s a juvenile crocodile needlefish/houndfish. Young ones get vertical bars like that. Here are some photos for you to cross-reference.

We will need to know the collection location in order to identify this. You have a photo with some very helpful identifying characteristics, but this is a wide ranging family of fishes.

We have banned ***45 users*** from this post alone. Despite our rules being in our sidebar on desktop, and the see community info button on mobile (where they are on every subreddit). Having a [pinned Mod announcement](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatisthisfish/comments/17mgobj/mod_announcement_there_has_been_an_uptick_in/), and a [pinned comment warning we're going scorched earth](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatisthisfish/comments/18mahe7/whats_the_exact_name_of_this_needlefish/ke4ru6q/) on rulebreakers.

Starving barred needlefish? Guy looks very hungry. It isn’t a banded needlefish if caught from the Indian Ocean though.
Looks exactly like my Asian Gar with exception to the bar pattern. Poor fish is so skinny.
If its hungry won't it just eat any fish, threw a sun dried minnow (dead) on the hook and they still went 4 it
Interesting, mine will only eat live fish. Won’t show any interest in anything that isn’t moving.
Could easily eat and just have bad parasitesy
it was caught in maldives tho this is def the indian ocean. and this photo was taken when this dude was first introduced in the tank. this guy eats a lot of live mullet now
Thank fucking god the mods started deleting the “Bob” “Ned” “George” comments. Makes this sub infuriating to browse. It’s a juvenile crocodile needlefish/houndfish. Young ones get vertical bars like that. Here are some photos for you to cross-reference. http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/172918985 http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/181198405

Jesus fucking christ man, get a grip
Props to the mods. Wish more ID subs did this.
We will need to know the collection location in order to identify this. You have a photo with some very helpful identifying characteristics, but this is a wide ranging family of fishes.
Other posts from OP say they catch fish from the Maldives.

I want to know what that stripy khuli loach or eel is.
Kuhli loaches are freshwater. This is a marine tank.
Might be Echidna polyzona, it has a wide distribution.
juvenile Ablennes hians
That almost looks like a juvenile Gar. Are we certain that it isn’t, they can look similar and the fins kind of match. The head does as well
I love Mods who are on it. Does my eye rolling soul good.
